Entertainmentwise is reporting what could be a new quote from Ben Affleck. He’s bitching about how his career tanked after he made the stupid decision to make a terrible movie with J. Lo, have an affair with her (and let’s face, she was married for a few weeks at that point) and show up at multiple events and premieres by her side. You would think he would avoid reminding us about that well publicized period in his life, but he says that showing up in J.Lo’s “Jenny from the Block” video was career-ending for him. Entertainment wise presents this quote from Ben as if it’s something he just said, but it’s probably from an older interview and they’re rehashing it:
He says, “If I have a big regret, it was doing the music video. But that happened years ago. I’ve moved on.”
But Affleck insists he isn’t blaming Lopez for his career nosedive: “It not only makes me look like a petulant fool (to blame Lopez), but it surely qualifies as ungentlemanly? For the record, did she hurt my career? No.”

Affleck appeared in a tank top in the video, with it’s catchy but annoyingly repetitive refrain assuring us that J.Lo is just like us despite the fact that she’s so rich and famous she can get guards to bring her cuticle cream in jail. He rubbed Lopez’s bikini-clad booty and seemed transfixed by it, which helped us understand how he got into that PR mess in the first place.
Ben talked about the effect of his relationship with Lopez on his career back in October when he was doing press for Gone Baby Gone. I hope for his sake that this quote is re-hashed reworded version of stuff he already said in order to promote his movie. He meant well and was just trying to be open about it. He should have released that, like his relationship with Lopez, things never quite end in the media and keep getting recycled and repeated ad naseum. At least he learned from his mistakes and ended up with a woman who made him sell his Bentley and doesn’t ignore her children.

Without a doubt, Affleck’s career hit a low point while he was with JLo. Maybe he just made some bad choices and the timing was a coincidence. Or, it could be that she talked him into projects like Gigli, we don’t know.
Afflect and Garner seem much more compatible as a couple (she even likes the Red Sox!), and JLo and Marc also seem to have a lot in common.
If he has moved on, why is HE the one bringing it up? I had forgotten all about the Jenny block video, until HE made mention of it. As for his career tanking, maybe it is due to his poor acting abilities and unappealing character that is the problem and not his affiliation with Lopez. 😈
Devilgirl, I agree. I am a fan of movies but to be honest I never really knew who Ben Afflect was until he got together with J.LO and I do not think I was the only one, so he should really thank J.LO for at least making him more well known.

He was the one running around flaunting it and then when it didn’t suit him he bailed. He seems to think that his fame from Goodwill Hunting was supposed to follow him indefinitely, Matt Damon’s career has soared bcuz he is a good actor, Ben’s has floundered bcuz he is not.

First, you never see Ben and Jennifer Garner together as they made a consious and publicized decision to try to always walk the red carpet separately when promoting films as people/the paps would only concentrate on them together and not the project in need of promoting. Second, why does no one who replies on this site know how to spell these celebrities names? If you’re so into celebrities that you’d be reading this column, then you’d think you could spell Affleck (Enonymouse) and Garner (dLO). Just wondering.

First of Ben A. is a lousy actor. Let’s all face it the only reason he is with Jennifer Gardner is because she got pregnant. Doubt that he loved her and doubt that he ever loved anyone but himself. If he was happy in his marriage why is it that he is never around with his family.

Um Sylvia did you even read the article. He said he ‘didn’t’ blame her for hurting his career only that he regretted doing the video.
It’s easy to see how and why so many stars comments get taken out of context when people rush to comment without either a)reading the article in its entirety, b)taking the bloggers’ slant and or possible bias on the article into consideration or c) the fact that they were probably asked a specific question to which they are giving an answer.
