You know what I’m talking about – that scene near the end of Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts was wearing salmon-colored culottes and a blazer and she goes to meet Kit in the lobby and they go out by the pool and Kit is all “Cinderf-ckinrella”. And a fashion moment was born. I remember when the shorts-blazer combo was big, and Julia (or Pretty Woman’s costumer) was responsible for it. Anyway, these are photos of Julia in Spain today, promoting Eat, Pray, Love at the San Sebastian Film Festival. Instead of culottes, Julia is rocking a mini-skort. Her ass is very close to falling out of it too, but her legs are still in pretty good shape, right?
Anyway, this is the most slender Julia has looked for the entire European tour. She either just gains weight in her mid-section, or she’s pregnant. I don’t know why she keeps drawing attention to her waist, either. This outfit doesn’t have some hideous belt (thankfully), but Julia is still pulling at her blazer and trying to get the eye to go down. She’s either pregnant, or self-conscious about the weight she’s put on.
As for the actual outfit… well, I hope this doesn’t start something. This is actually the second shorts-blazer combo Julia has worn during promotion – she also wore a similar combo to the New York premiere. While Julia looks nice in what seems like a very cheap blazer & skort (albeit dated), she needs to try something else. I didn’t hate the dress she wore in Paris, maybe something more along those lines. Also: Julia needs to stop clinging to Javi. Every f-cking protional stop, she’s been on him like white on rice. Stop with the clinging, Julia. You’re in your 40s, you’ve been doing this for three decades, if you can’t do a photo op without acting like a little girl who needs to be protected, you should just stop.

She does look thicker in the middle in recent photos, so I think this is her attempt to draw attention to her legs, which still look good, and away from her middle. Generally though I don’t really like her.

Kaiser, your jealousy is showing. We all know if you were in Julia’s shoes, you would be ripping off Javier’s clothes. I don’t have a problem with Julia’s outfit but I think a white shirt would have been better than black.
I love the shorts and blazer combo but not this particular combo. I bought a lined pair of BCBGeneration shorts (with a bubble hem) for the summer and wore them with a jacket during the cooler summer nights. Depending on the cut of the jacket and the style of shorts, it can work very well.
And yes, Julia has fantastic legs for a woman of her age.

If I had legs like hers I’d wear shorts and a blazer too. At least she looks pulled together, unlike so many of today’s celebs who look like they’ve just rolled out of bed and put on the clothes they left on the floor the night before. Team Julia!

If she is pregnant she didn’t show in the Bikini shots in Hawaii 3 weeks ago. Also she just stated their family was commplete with 3 kids but I guess no birth control is fool proof.

Ugh, I don’t like it. Sure, her legs are one of her best assets, but this just looks like she forgot her pants/skirt. It might have had a chance of working if the blazer actually fit her and was a good several inches shorter.

Something is up. In one photo call after another she’s covering her belly with her hands and/or wearing something to try to draw attention away from her middle. Either pregnancy or weight gain. I’m leaning towards weight gain.
I really hate when people try to combine navy with black. They are too close in color to contrast but not close enough to match. It looks like an accident. And the shorts/skort thing is far too short for that frumpy jacket. I agree that she needs a stylist instead to trying to do it all herself.

Don’t these people get embarrassed doing these ridiculous “photo ops?” I mean, we have the same three people in different outfits, in different cities, posing the same way, over and over again. The only difference is what they are wearing. Then they go sit their “beautiful” selves down in a movie theater chair that the rest of us wear sneakers, t-shirts and jeans in. The more you think about it, the more silly it seems.

There is an age where short skirts and short shorts are just not right. Her legs are awful looking even though she is very thin.
Not attractive at all, but then she never was a fashion icon.
She looks like she got dressed in the 1990’s. But it works for her a little bit. Nice and long in the legs, but perhaps a little long in tooth for short skorts. Glowing face, big boobs, tummy that can’t be spanxed? How obvious can it be? Congratulations Moder family.
Great legs, but God that blazer looks cheap. You can see the outline of her bra from the back. And double-breasted? The blazer should be shorter and either single breasted or, if double-breasted, should be buttoned up to show her shape. Which brings us to the fact that she must be trying to hide her mid-section. Normally I’d think she’s pregnant, but she’s 43 and already has 3 kids. Time will tell, I guess!
These pics aren’t close ups, but I clicked on the link with the mumu dress and WTF happened to her nose? Either it’s a trick of the light or one of her nostrils is is up way higher and twice the size of the other.

Pregnancy rearranges body fat. It can give you a thick torso and hanging boobs, slim out your legs and make them more sinewy, and make your face gaunt and angular. Leggy women can end up looking like blobs with stork limbs, and that pooch is damn hard to get rid of. Julia had twins, so she’s always going to have to work around the changes in her body.
Still no style or physical grace whatsoever. Get this woman a real stylist before she really embarrasses herself and teach her how to walk and move like a real actress. Gawky, clumsy, adolescent, graceless. Yecch. I can’t stand to watch this forty-something woman hurl herself around like an uncoordinated teenager.

so. and i’m going to hell for saying this. but … unforgiveable as this outfit is, it’s actually doing more for her figure than anything else she’s worn on this junket. the legs are fantastic, irreproachable. the jacket is smoothing out the bust-meet-waist issue (though the fit is dodgy in places and the pocket linings are a heap).

Didn’t everyone do this jacket and shorts on the red carpet thing a year or two ago? From what I remember of that, it looked good when the jacket was very fitted and everything was just the right length. This just looks baggy and sloppy, like she threw a random jacket on over her outfit.
