I wanted to hate Sarah Jessica Parker’s dress. But I can’t. The bitch looks great. These are photos of SJP at last night fall gala for the NYC Ballet. The dress is Halston Heritage (SJP is the creative director for Halston), and it could have been boring and unflattering. The color could have been off. The cut could have been tragic. But damn it, this is one of her best formal looks in a really long time. The color is a great peachy metallic nude that only a few women could pull off. The cut flatters her slender, athletic figure, and it appears she’s put on just a little much-needed weight. The hair is bouncy and very Brigitte Bardot. I only have two qualms: the jewelry isn’t that awesome (with this dress), and SJP seems to be carrying an odd military jacket, perhaps to wear over the dress when she gets cold. It looks like she’s carrying her military duffel bag on her way to fashion basic training.
The Daily Mail points out that SJP was newly elected to the board of the directors for the NYC Ballet, and that the event was a celebration for “the New York premiere of a new ballet by NYCB Principal Dancer Benjamin Millepied set to a commissioned score from Pulitzer-Prize winning composer David Lang. The programme also included George Balanchine’s Tarantella and an excerpt from Western Symphony, as well as Jerome Robbins’ I’m Old Fashioned. Tickets for the event started from $1,500, with premium seats costing $5,000.” That Ben Millepied dude is Natalie Portman’s boyfriend. I’m surprised she wasn’t there… or maybe she was, and there are just no photos of her? Or maybe they broke up? Who knows? Mm… more fashion porn, please.

I am a little ify on the pattern of the dress. I like the cut of it but that pattern and the fabric of the dress is a little up and down with me. In the bottom pic it looks great on her and I like it. I also think she has on way to many necklaces. WTF SJP?!?!
The cut is good, but I really don’t like the color. And I think her hair is terrible.

The dress is alright (even if it does look a tad like bubble wrap). The horse face, large honk, beady eyes and veiny arms, however, are “unflattering”.

I think the dress works, I would have picked different accessories though. And the haristyle really emphasizes the roots of her hair which throws it off for mme, but I like the overall style. SJP is such a nice gal that I have good thoughts everytime I see her.

Don’t like the dress and when I was reading this piece it read in my head like the announcer at a catwalk show (except maybe the b*tch part, lol). I think it’s amazing that SJP has become Carrie in the sense that a Canadian is now living the NY glitz and glamor life of her SITC alter ego and is a NYC ‘it’ girl. Kinda cool.

Totally Lovely. SJP is a style kingpin, so sometimes thing get a little ridic, but this gown is stunning.
I don’t really care. For me, it’s not the dress. It’s her. She is simply physically unattractive.
I think she could do a lot better. First, she needs to gain some weight. After a certain age being too thin just makes you look sick – (Madonna + most older celebrities). Second, she needs to get rid of the dated hair style and lengthy black roots. Finally, she needs a pretty, feminine, colorful dress for a beautiful (being nice!) middle-aged LADY – with sleeves. Stop trying to be a screen siren Sarah…it’s embarrassing.

I think she looks perfectly fine, although too thin – she hasn’t gained any weight at all. And since when is a 40 plus year old woman either supposed to look like she has a 20 year old body or else cover it up (for God’s sake)? Get used to it. We are older and we are fit. LOVE me some Sarah and the dress is ok but the neckline isnt flattering on her boyish figure & the necklace (choker one) looks cheap and cuts off her neck. Also the hairstyle is terrible. This is a miss for SJP esp when I typically LOVE how she dresses. I do agree she is way to thin right now. She would look so much better with 10 pds. on her frame.

She is perfect for Halloween. Looks just like a skeleton…but skinnier and uglier and scarier. I think I’ll dressup a skeleton , draw similarities in face and stature…and hang in on my front porch. That will scare the trick-or-treaters away

This is a fabric you need to see in person. Any shiny fabric could look different in a photo. She always wears expensive looking clothing and I bet it looks much better in person.

Like the dress, but wish it would have been altered to lose the draping at the bottom. I think a more fitted dress, stopping 3/4 length would have really knocked this out the park. The jewelry doesn’t really seem to go with the dress – but I like the subtle hair and makeup.

Okay, I assume you ladies are in the know. What is the deal with the hubby and the kids? From some of the comments she made before the twins were delivered by the anonymous surrogate, I got the feeling that SJP was overwhelmed and Matthew was the push behind adding to their brood (of one, which would be fine for a two career couple unless you’re Brangelina).
Other than the one story with her dragging the screaming twins to the doctor with the nanny, it’s just her. Alone. In London. In NYC. Wherever. Where are the happy family pics? Marital bliss gone awry?

Older women need MORE flesh and fat, not less, as we age, especially on the face and arms. Surely it’s better to look cuddly rather than gristly?!
@jemshoes: I agree. I’ve seen a few older women lose a heap of weight and it made their faces look harder and older. They looked better with the weight on.
