Jeff Bridges, Stephen Colbert & James Franco named as GQ’s Men of the Year

cv01_noupcmed

As we saw yesterday, the time has come for the end-of-the-year lists and fake awards naming people The Most or The Best of Year. GQ named Scarlett Johansson the “Babe of the Year” and now they’ve released their other People of the Year. Jeff Bridges got Man of the Year, for his Oscar win and his upcoming roles in Tron and True Grit. Plus, you know, Jeff is just awesome and everyone loves and respects him.

My favorite was Stephen Colbert, who GQ named as “Patriot of the Year”. I just love this photo of Colbert bleeding red, white and blue. It’s a great shot. I wish he was wearing his glasses though!

Drake was named “Breakout of the Year” because you can’t turn on a radio these days without hearing him, and hey, it’s well-deserved.

And James Franco was named “Leading Actor of the Year” probably because everyone thinks he’s going to at the very least be nominated for Best Actor for his role in 127 Hours. It’s interesting seeing him clean-shaven, and I almost didn’t recognize him.

All in all, not a bad list.

I just read excerpts of Franco’s interview. He so fucking pretentious.

  2. gobo says:

    Jeff Bridges. Swoon.

  3. anti says:

that’s a really odd photo angle on that franco cover…

    i love colbert! that’s a great cover!

  4. Tess says:

I kind of liked it when I thought I was Jeff Bridge’s only girlfriend.

  5. Praise St. Angie! says:

    mmm…a clean James Franco…YUM!

  6. LOVE ANGELINA says:

I think Bridges and Franco are great choices. Love them both, me and the geek squad are sooo excited for Tron. Yes. Not sure I wanna see 127 Hours because I hear there is a hella graphic scene where he cuts his arm off and it made people sick. For Patriot of the year I watch Jon Stewart over Colbert, I just like Stewart better. Wish he was Patriot of the year but Stephen is still cool.

  7. Sarah says:

    I love James Franco. 🙂

  8. Tess says:

    @ Love Angelina

GQ may have passed on Stewart because Stewart invited Cat Stevens to sing at his rally, seemingly oblivious to—or unperturbed—by the fact that Stevens called for Salmon Rushdie’s death after he wrote a fictional book that offended some Muslims.

    Ironically, Stevens sang Peace Train.

  9. bellaluna says:

    J’adore Jeff Bridges! *swoon*

Stephen Colbert (LOVE that picture of him!) and John Stewart are 2 of the most astute, acerbic, hysterically honest personalities on TV.

  10. Kat says:

What a terrible photo of Franco!

  11. YankeeFanGurl860 says:

Yeah, can we please get some Jeff Bridges this Hot Guy Friday? Thankyouverymuch!

  12. Dana says:

Jeff Bridges has the most amazing, gorgeous face. A life well lived.

  13. clementine says:

    franco is perfect!

  14. Obvious says:

Can’t we just make Stewart and Colbert Best Team of the Year.

Even though they have their own shows, most of what they do is so intertwined…and you can tell they love working together.

  15. kimmm says:

Jeff Bridges , Stephen Colbert & James Franco totally made my day .

  16. heatheradair says:

Secret Colbert crush. Like, serious, giant crush. I watch Jon Stewart and don’t specifically wonder what he’s like in the sack….but Colbert….somehow I think he’d be a great ride 😉 seriously. Maybe it’s the way his eyebrows defy gravity? Anyway. I’m not drinking the Franco Kool-Aid (I read his short stories….shudder), but it’s impossible not to love Jeff Bridges…..

  17. Hautie says:

There was no one prettier than Jeff Bridges in Jagged Edge.

If you have not seen that movie… you must.

Just so you will gain knowledge why you should never trust a man that pretty, with your trust fund.

  18. TaylorB says:

    Franco looks great!

Joseph Gorden Levitt will always be (in my mind) the kid from 3rd Rock so it feels a bit icky to me that he is considered a ‘hot man’…

Oh, and Tess… lay off on the politics for once, people are just trying to talk about hot men.

  19. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@Tess I guess that could be a factor but Stephen Colbert was apart of that rally to. He was the …or fear part of The Rally To Restore Sanity…or Fear. I don’t really mind Colbert being Patriot of the Year, I just love The Daily Show. 🙂

  20. Tess says:

    @ TaylorB

    I understand what you’re saying.

But Colbert, Stewart et al are actually the ones who bring politics into the mix. I’m just responding to some of the rampant absurdities in their politics.

  21. Raven says:

Colbert is so cute. I can just see him as a smart-mouthed kid in class, who really was pretty smart. That same look on his face as he was wisecracking the teacher. And it sure paid off.

Love Franco and Bridges, too. It seems like Jeff is going the way of Clint. A lot of good work for a long time without a lot of recognition. Now, he’s the favorite award nominee for everything.

  22. lu says:

    No heavy photoshop, finally.

  23. dj says:

Sorry to disagree but Jeff Bridges was much more gorgeous (and tan) in “Against All Odds.” The hotness! Great choice for HGF. Please, please, please….!

  24. TaylorB says:

Tess for heavens sakes these fellas are comics that work for Comedy Central, not CNN or Fox, they are not newscasters and have never claimed to be so why worry so much about what they have to say? As for their politics being ‘absurd’ that is only an opinion, I suspect there are multitudes of folks who would consider their politics fine and the oppositions thoughts absurd. But please remember different doesn’t necessarily mean absurd, simply different.

However, when discussing hot/influential dudes sometimes it is best to set politics aside and instead focus on the tightness of buttocks, jawline and biceps instead. Now IMHO Colbert looks quite fit, as does Jeff Bridges, but Kid Rock (while fit) just strikes me as a bit too dirty (I mean dirty in the rolling about in drunken, semi-conscious soil covered skanks every night kinda way) to find hot or influential and the only influence he has is inspiring thousands of women to run to the nearest clinic and get tested for STDs… actually that is a good thing, even if it is in a roundabout way.

  25. Tess says:

    @ Taylor B

Setting politics aside, I’m goinna have to reiterate that Jeff Bridges is my guy. Watch him in Starman and I defy anyone not to fall a little bit in love. Then finish up with Jagged Edge. That kind of covers the male yumminess spectrum from A to Z.

  26. TaylorB says:

    Tess,

Jeff is quite yummy. And I also fell for him in Starman… *sigh* *swoon*

Matter of fact a nice Jeff montage would work on Hot Guy Friday.

  27. masonwasp says:

Colbert’s show is really unfunny. I’ve never been able to make it through an episode. So I think he looks smarmy in that photo – and I realize his schtick is smarminess. But I think he’s genuinely a bit of a douche.

But don’t all those political satirists end up douchey in the end? Look at poor Bill Maher and Dennis Miller.

That is a great pic of Jeff Bridges. I’ve grown to appreciate him as I get older.

  28. Cleo says:

James Franco is using Alexander Skarsgard oft-used pose of looking down at the camera – it’s for girls looking at themselves on the mirror not guys with jobs in the public eye as objects of desire. Cut that out!

  29. lucy2 says:

I like Franco OK as an actor, but the excerpt I read of his book was not very good. And yeah, that photo just looks stupid, especially compared with the awesomeness that is Jeff Bridges.

I love Stephen Colbert. I think he’s hilarious, and I’ve always heard that he is the nicest guy. Plus he’s used his show and fans to do a lot of great fund raising for various projects too.

  30. Chris says:

Before Colbert there was Tim Robbins’ film Bob Roberts. He pioneered the satirical right-wing loon with that character.

  31. Anti-icon says:

hey GQ, thanks for having the taste. You could have picked Gibson, Woods and other James (thats Ravin’ Rager, Tiger’s Tool and Vanilla Gorilla.)

Maybe GQ reads Hot Guy Friday. We can only hope.

  32. LT says:

Sweet moses Drake is ready to be spread on a cracker!

@masonwasp – I live in Charleston & Colbert comes down here a lot (he’s from here) and you could not be farther off – he is the sweetest thing! Really super nice to everyone.
