Miley Cyrus’s former childhood friend has given an interview to Radar, claiming that Miley Cyrus was a mega-bitch and a bully in middle school. I’m getting a flashback to that episode of 30 Rock, when Liz goes to her high school reunion and discovers that SHE wasn’t the one who was always picked on in high school, that in fact everyone hated her because she was so mean and nasty. In Miley’s version of her childhood, she always claimed that she was the victim of vicious mean-girling in her youth. Miley’s former friend tells a much different story:
In her memoir, Miley Cyrus: Miles to Go, the Disney queen writes about her years in school where she said she was picked on and bullied. But in an exclusive interview with RadarOnline.com, Miley’s best childhood friend Nicole Mullen-Holm remembers a completely different scenario.
“Miley is a liar who bullied girls and was a real b*tch to everyone,” Nicole says. “I’m so in shock that Destiny, oh, I mean Miley, wrote a book about being the victim of middle school bullying when she was the mean girl of our school. Even though we were friends, she was still a brat. I knew her from the first grade and when she and I got to middle school, she just did a 180-degree turn in the wrong direction.”
Miley, who was born Destiny Hope Cyrus, was friends with Mullen-Holm when they attended Heritage Elementary School and Heritage Middle School in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Mullen-Holm says the two were inseparable and had a very tight bond.
“We would hang out and talk a lot at school. Typical girl stuff,” Mullen-Holm recalls.
But that all changed in middle school. “The girls took it beyond normal bullying. These were big, tough girls,” Cyrus says in her book. “I was scrawny and short. They were fully capable of doing me bodily harm.”
But like a good Disney story, Mullen-Holm says Miley’s version is just make believe.
“Miley became so mean, I remember her shouting at an overweight girl calling her ‘lesbian’ and ‘dyke,'” Mullen-Holm, 18, recalls. “Miley was a cheerleader and was with the ‘in’ crowd. She was never bullied in elementary or middle school. If anyone even touched her it would have been the end of the world. Her dad would own the school!”
Miley began working when she was nine years old with occasional appearances on her dad Billy Ray Cyrus’ sitcom, Doc, which was shot in Canada and had the family going back and forth for three years. Before she’d finished 7th grade, Miley won the role of Hannah Montana, and the Cyrus clan took off for Hollywood. That was the last time Nicole saw her.
While Nicole says she has no hard feelings toward Miley, she just wants her old friend to grow up and not let all the fame and fortune consume her.
“Miley is a good girl at heart but I’ve been seeing how she’s been partying and acting and she’s looking like Lindsay Lohan,” Mullen-Holm says.
“I don’t want her to be the mean girl that she was in middle school and I would hate to see her become the next train wreck. She’s very lucky and should show some humility.”

Part of me feels like “who cares?” I mean, I was a bitch in middle school and high school, and now I’m… well-adjusted…? Okay, so maybe I’m a bad example. But it’s perfectly possible that Miley was a nasty piece of work in her youth and she grew up a bit and learned that calling someone a “dyke” is just stupid and wrong. Of course, does Miley seem well-adjusted to you? Yeah… she’s probably still a piece of work, and she probably still thinks the world revolves around her. But whatever.

NOT surprised here…I can totally see it happening. smdh
Of course she was. Do you really think that she was a nice girl in school. I’d be surprised if that was the case.
Kaiser I love you but bragging about how you were a bully in school isn’t endearing. You may be well adjusted but you should talk to the kids you bullied when you were in school. It really can affect people in the long term if they were seriously bullied.
EDIT: Sorry you said bitch not bully I hope you just mean catty and not that you made fun of other kids.
Oh I defintely believe this one! I can see her saying mean bitchy things to some poor kid.
But you a beotch, Kaiser? Bet your mom called you a princess!
Min – I didn’t say I was a bully, I said I was a bitch. I had a group of equally uncool goth friends and we used to sit around and make fun of all of the popular girls. Is that bullying? Or is it just high school crap?
This girl’s got a pig face.
Well color me surprised.
Does this comes as a shock to anybody???
As someone who was dubbed a slut (by the boys, because I wouldn’t sleep with them; by the girls because their boyfriends wanted to sleep with me) in high school, I an honestly say I was still a bitch. I made merciless fun of cheerleaders. And no, Kaiser – BIG difference between being a bully and being a bitch. Anyone who says they weren’t a bitch in high school is lying! Everyone was a bitch to someone.
Butterfaces with money are the worst. They always try to compensate for the lack of self esteem by trying to make others they can control miserable.
If this is true, what pisses me off i lying in her memoirs….which btw, why do all these baby stars feel the need to publish their memoirs????
I was bullied for being fat… Damn girls.
Wish they could see me now!
I have known 5 girls named destiny. Everyone of them turned out to be a big mess.
I think there is a definite difference between being a loner who doesn’t like the cool girls and being a bully. I get the feeling there are a lot of bullies out there who genuinely have no idea what they are really like.
I can see that. My daughter read her book and when she read the excerp to me about MC being bullied, I was calling bullsh*t in my head. I was part of the in-crowd you could say (even though I tried to be cool with everyone) and could not stand it when a couple of the girls from our group would bully people. I would step in and take up for the person being bullied, root for the underdog.
@Kaiser sounds like high school crap. Calling the fat girl a dyke is bullying. I am sensitive on this as I was bullied and have worked with kids . Bullying is when you target someone who you percieve as weak and torture them. Usually it’s popular kids going after the kid who already has problems and very little social skills. I was bullied right at the time of my parents divorce and school became a torture for me. As soon as I got to college I made tons of friends and realize that I was a likable person but some people never get over it.
I believe this, this girl is completely off track, must be from all the fake stories she’s trying to sell.
Miley is the future Kaiser LOL
kaiser i would never have pictured u as a goth
I was a bitch in school, and I am still a bitch to this day. Was I a bully in school? Not at all.
Guess the bottom line is we are all bitchy or we wouldn’t be here on celebitchy.
Kaiser, I love you.
More pieces of your youth, please. whenever you give us a bit, you always seem to be so fascinating in such a plain way.
i hope that came out right 🙂
Maren – Well, I wasn’t really a goth, I just hung around with, the goths. I was really, really wild when I was 14-15, but by the time 16 rolled around, I wasn’t so wild. My junior and senior years I was actually pretty popular!
wow she’s unfortunate looking. No wonder .. HillBilly Rae looks like a billy goat and mommy resembles a meerkat.
I live in the Nashville area and I know people who have worked with and gone to school with Princess Miley. She wasn’t a good student and her dad used to pick her up from school on his motorcycle LOL. I heard a tidbit from a guy who did her extentions in N’ville after she hit it big. She treated her dad like crap and talked down to him, basically telling him that she paid his bills and that he was stupid and should just shut up. It doesn’t surprise me – the whole fam is just riding the gravy train.
i was a victorian-style goth girl in high school: i dressed in dark vintage clothes, wore white face powder and black eyeshadow, read victorian literature, listened to opera and wrote with a quill pen and ink. i also got straight As, was quiet and kept to myself. of course, i got bullied every single day for about a year in junior high. i hated school and had daily anxiety attacks at the age of 15 but i was not about to change who i was in order to please a bunch of bitches who would still hate me anyway. one day a big, tough puerto rican girl transferred to our school and decided i was cool because she liked the hat i was wearing (vintage black pillbox with raven feathers). we became friends and nobody fucked with me after that. so thanks, maria-rosa!
i often think the reason i got bullied is because i was strong enough to be myself and not change, while all the kids who picked on me wanted to be different, too, but didn’t have the inner strength to go against the crowd. i was a daily reminder of how weak they were inside and how little they thought of themselves.
i agree there is a difference between a bitch and a bully – a bitch is a bitch to everyone, but a bully singles out certain people. but to all you former bullies & bitches: it all cuts just as deep so the result is the same. just because you were a bitch doesn’t mean you didn’t inflict some emotional damage on someone who probably did nothing to deserve it.
@seline:
I’ve known 3—all trashy, all angry.
Maybe it says more about the kind of parent who would name their child Destiny in the first place
BTW – does anyone really believe that she was smoking Salvia in that bong and not weed? Lol, sleeping openly with older guys in the house she shares with her mom, dad and younger sibs, underage drinking, drugging… Billy Ray and Tish lost parental control the minute they became her employees.
argh, that face. it enrages me. and her voice can just push anyone over the edge. i know if i was in highschool with her type id definitely steer clear and mock her.
Lindsay Lohan part 2. I see so many similarities between these two. Now all we need to see is how she can top carjacking people coked up and we have a real match to be the scummiest young celebrity who needs to go away
This doesn’t surprise me, either…
She’s always come across like the popular girl wearing a halo when the parents/teachers are looking, but setting something on fire the second they turn away. Then weaving a heartbreaking story about how she bravely attempted to battle the rising flames with nothing but the tiny spout of the water fountain and her hands.
And of course then blaming the fire on a member of the drama club, or perhaps the girl standing in her way of being cheerleading captain.
It’s just unfortunate how easily this ex-friend’s story will likely be discounted by fans who assume “Oh, she’s obviously just jealous. She sounds so bitter, she’d say anything to hurt Miley. Just talking about this to get attention.”
@Obvious (#11)- YES. Why hasn’t anyone else brought this up? Seeing someone like Beiber writing a memoir? He can’t possibly have much to write, he hasn’t even been alive long enough. It’s just a BS publicity move to make them look more interesting. x_x
This little nitwit is going to have to cure cancer before I give her the benefit of the doubt. I think Disney needs to do parental background checks before they sign these little monsters.
I was a triple B threat meaning I was the Bully that Bullied the bullies.
I was at the higher ops in that feild ie stealth fighter; and usually when I saw a bully is bullying somebody I knew was sensitive I would turn their belittling on their own faces it even got physical with a few and broke alot of noses and fingers. It helped that I was into kickboxing since I was a kid – got the trophies to prove it. So naturally I had no problem getting hit or hitting other people. Normally I was more stealthy and would wait for an oportune moment to belittle the school bullies with very public and very embarrssing offensives. Two were so bad they left school outright the next day.
keep in mind
I had no aspirations of bulling people but because I could hold my own I worked to at least make the victims see they wern’t alone. No mercy to the rest though. Fair game esspeically if it’s a bully VS bully.
@devilgirl —
Me too.
I think she is still a nasty mean loud mouth girl y’all. That video of her smoking – – whatever – – is typical behavior of that type of personality IMO.
I love original kate’s post 🙂
Bitch is such an over used word people! Just because your opinionated and strong, outspoken, witty or quick doesn’t make you a bitch. I was super shy in high school and people called me a bitch because I was really quiet ergo apparently meant I was arrogant and a bitch. This sounds like stupid High School/ middle school crap where all girls are mean to each other out of jealousy or insecurity.
@ Obvious: yes it is so ridiculous that she published a memoir. Even my daughter at the time (this was a couple of years ago) was rolling her eyes at certain things she stated in the book. So glad the Hannah Montana phase is over.
wow viper. I could’ve used you in Jr High! I’m still dealing with issues stemming from my days being bullied…
…maybe Justin’s is a picture book???
@randomness- I agree with you! I’m naturally an introvert and very shy so when I first meet people, it takes a while for me to open up, feel comfortable, and trust people. Because of this, I’ve been called a bitch for being “snobby”.
I find it interesting how after high school, the most popular kids always downplay their status in high school (we all know how important it was) and try to play it off like they hung out with everyone and used to be nice to all. In middle, high school, so many people conform then once they are out of that time period, everyone wants to be known as interesting and unique.
You can kind of tell she may not be the nicest person from the videos that keep getting leaked of her.
Original Kate-
Wow I would have loved to have hung out with you in school.
Hell, I would love to have coffee with you now!
I couldn’t be bothered. I hung out behind the school with the other stoners and Deadheads.
@lin234: But isn’t conforming part of wanting to fit in, with someone? Even the “uncool” kids in school usually had a group of others to hang with, be it the dungeons & dragons crowd or the goth kids. It seems to be human nature to want to be liked and part of a group with others.
She just *looks* like a nasty little shithead to me.
She looks like the girl who is always loud and annoying because she thinks everyone likes her, but really everyone just has to pretend to like her because she wields some invisble power. That’s the secret to being at the top of the pecking order in terms of school-age “popularity”, by the way.
I agree with Kaiser to the extent we all like to think we were the victims and the good teenagers but if we really look back I think we were all terrible people cause we were kids full of hormones so at least Kaiser admits.
BUT there’s a difference between the regular high school crap and being a bully. I can see Miley being having been a rich girl who was a spoiled entitled brat and was probably a bitch. How much of a bully? I don’t know … at my school bullying didn’t really go all that much to be honest but I see videos of kids today doing some terrible shit to each other … makes me appreciate what I went through that it wasn’t that bad.
Maybe in Canada it’s too cold to bully? 😛
At first I thought, “oh, a SOURCE claims…” but the source gave her name, so I tend to think she is telling the truth. Way to call her out!
I became a bitch (snarky, nasty to all) after an incident in high school where I messed around with a boy and the next day everyone found out about it and what my body looked like! Needless to say, I soon became a “hater” to all the socially handicapped AP kids =)
I love how grown adult women are calling someone nasty names while decrying her possible middle school bullying. If this girl had come out of the woodwork to decry someone you all liked, you’d never believe it was true. Besides, if she was so offended by Miler’s book or previous attitude, why didn’t she mention that a year or so back when that fantastic novel came out? Or while she was still on the MouseHouse dole?
Who’s the fairy in the main pic? Girl knows how to show them teefs…
Who cares. NO ONE was nice in middle school, no one. Everyone was a total shithead. I know I was. I was made fun of relentlessly, but I am the first to admit I dished it out as well. I don’t hold grudges.
I think the issue is not so much the fact that she bullied people in school and said some things she shouldn’t have said (which, let’s face it, we’ve all done at some point), but that she’s published a completely fictitious version of her events to the hundreds of thousands of young girls who would have bought her book and read it. It’s a bit of false advertising, really.
I didn’t bully, nor was I bullied, but I was a snarky piece of work when I felt like it.
It wouldn’t surprise me if this was true. The kids at my school who did commercials and tv and movies were all jerks who had their heads in the clouds. (Yea, i went to school in Southern California). But they didn’t really “bully” people. They just acted like their sh*t didn’t stink, sat at the “cool” table and everyone else pretty much steered clear of them.
I kept to myself and my nerdy group. Outward bullying wasn’t tolerated at my school though-physical fighting got you expelled. If someone was being teased, someone in the vicinity would usually say something. Most people really just kept to themselves though. I remember reading about bullying in school and wondering: Who the hell are these kids who do this because I certainly didn’t go to school with them. I feel lucky when I read about others who were tormented by others in school.
@ memyself: i’m drinking coffee right now, as a matter of fact. i live in seattle so it’s mandatory.
i went to my 15 year high school reunion and i was stunned to see so many people being really nice to me. they either forgot that they poured soda in my locker, barked at me in the hallways, left nasty notes on my desk, called me “morticia,” asked me if i slept in a coffin, and other original insults, or they were ashamed of their past behavior and tried to cover it up. in any case, i just let it go. i was happy with the girl i was then and the woman i am now.
but, on a very shallow note: so many of the “popular” people are now fat, with leathery skin, a shitload of kids, still living in our tiny town and hanging out with the same people. it made me a little sad for them – their whole life is just like high school. but everytime someone told me i looked great, or i looked so young, i just smiled sweetly and said, “yeah, living in a sarcophagus will do that to a girl.”
i learned how to bring the snark in the real world.
original kate, i feel you on that stuff. i wasn’t as ‘original,’ i guess- kinda wish i was, you sound like you were cool in your own way. i was more mousy and nerdy, but yah years later it seems people thought i was stuck-up because i was… really quiet.
anyway yes it is hilarious that thanks to the glories of Facebook (‘cuz PSH i so don’t live in our crappy little city anymore 😉 the only two people who ever really teased me at all- can’t say i was actually bullied, just felt uncool and painfully shy- interestingly enough were guys who ended up hitting on me years later. classic case of “kimmie grows up” i guess!
No surprises there. She acted like a self-entitled, narcissistic little bitch back then, and still does. Guess it was good training for her “career”.
Original Kate – Love it!
Zelda – I’ve never known one that didn’t have trashy parents.
I was a bitch in high school but only to the girls that were sleeping with mine and my friends boyfriends. because if you do that to someone, you deserve being bitched at.
I’m no Miley fan, but I’m with butler on this one. Everyone wants Miley to be so bad so as to what, validate their hatred towards her? One person says she was a bully. What about others in the same high school? What about her victims? You’d think they would bring out something just to watch Ms. Montana squirm.
What the hell is a MouseHouse dole by the way? Jeez I must be bored today. We are all talking about our experiences from school because of this story, which is hysterical. I know I mentioned her book, because I read this blog here where it was brought up. Some may have bullied or been bullied. I, neither. I definitely tried to be nice to everyone, but I also spoke my mind and took up for myself and others. Yikes And not sure about the hatred part, I think we just see where this is all going with Miss Miley. Hopefully not, but….
I wasn’t bullied at high school, though my oddness provoked attitude from the douches who would have liked to kick my arse if only they’d had the nerve to pick on a freaky 5’9″ bitch with a bad temper and propensity for violence (there are no passive goths in Australian mining towns, it’s kill or be killed.) I chose my friends on the basis of their having the guts to associate with me, and that works pretty well.
I certainly had some ugly, prolonged clashes with other bitches, but hat was more of an equal-opportunity haterating situation. Bullying is about power and inequity.
Do I believe this spoiled brat had more power than the hapless youths around her, and abused it on a regular basis? You know it’s true! Children, hell, adults just can’t help themselves.
But interestingly, with my partner working at a school now, I get to see the other side; bullies come from homes full of bullies. Look at the kid and then check out the parent. Would I have liked to be MC growing up with horror stageparents? Hell no.
She’s been groomed and pressured and micromanaged from birth. As much as Id like to slap the dumb smirk off her face for her own good, have a bit of empathy. And there’s no need to go calling her ugly or whatever.
Isn’t that the kind of bullying everyone’s complaining about?
mln76 to Kaiser: “Sorry you said bitch not bully I hope you just mean catty and not that you made fun of other kids.”
Either one is awful. I can’t understand when people just airily say things like that, as though it’s no big deal.
I was a protector of other kids, and suffered attacks on myself too. A lot of childhood was pure terror, but at least I can proudly say I was a good person, not a monster.
It really bothers me when people airily say “I was a bitch in high school, oh well, whatever…” as if that attitude doesn’t hurt others. Someone also raised a good point about how it’s interesting how people today try to downplay their past high school reputations, especially if they were popular by saying “I tried to be nice to everyone…” (yeah right, everyone knows that the popular ones were always obsessed with maintaining their popular status and hardly concerned with being kind to all).
High school was terrible for me and I’m still dealing with issues from it today, and that was nearly 15 years ago. But at least I’m learning to love and accept myself and all of my weird quirks that I got made fun of for in HS each more every day.
I was never bullied either, when I think long and focus on it – I was definately never bullied. But some things I did see would usually stop if I just walked by. Sometimes I’d just stand around and hope they’d continue but bullies at my highschool were sort of ‘ It’s …… ” and stand off and I couldnt do much during those times.
Good luck trying to get the bullied people to open up to me too- thatw as the main draw back. The Bully that could scare the bullies also scared the people they were trying to help. That always hurt me because I longed for a friend.
ugh you did not just insult the great Tina Fey to that stupid brat!
Original Kate-
You are my new girl crush!
original kate: …yeah, I agree. I don’t care if I’m a bitch saying that, but seeing people who bullied you in high school being shit now is priceless. It’s a wonderful revenge, at least for me.
Rawks: maybe she intends catty as a defense. You can also be a ‘selected’ bitch, towards mean people only…
LMAO@ “Part of me feels like “who cares?” I mean, I was a bitch in middle school and high school…”
sounds like something i would say. great story. i believe that people do grow up eventually, just as i did because i was also a big “bitch” in HS. now when it comes to Miley.. if anything it seems like that “high school” phase will last a long time later since she didn’t get to experience it the “normal” way.
Young girls grow up and change, but this girl really seems to have done a 180 from the clean cut face that was presented when Hannah Montana started on the Disney channel. Thank goodness my 9 yr old no longer has any interest in Miiley Cyrus.
I agree that the word ‘bitch’ is overused in general, and seems to mean different things to different people.
For some it means being a strong woman, confident in themselves in such a way that they’re able to express themselves confidently, regardless of what someone else thinks of you.
To others… It means something mean spirited, selfish and nasty…catty, and unable to give another woman any credit without turning it into a competition. (Think along the lines of Kate Gosselin…)
I think everyone has different ideas of what ‘bitchy’ is. I admit that I fit the definition from time to time, but if you don’t, I don’t think you’d be on this webpage xD
Why am I not surprised? She totally seems like the type. Miley can be the nicest girl in the world when people are watching, but I can definately picture her torturing some poor kid. 🙁
To be honest…..you guys r all fucking bitchess!!!
