These photos are from a new pictorial Keira Knightley did for Vogue Italia, likely to promote Never Let Me Go in Europe. Keira never fails to photograph beautifully, and I like many of these images. I have to admit, though, ever since LaineyGossip wrote this piece, I’ve been wondering if Keira is due some scandalous story, and in these photos, I’m thinking the “scandal” may be drugs. She just… I don’t know. It’s not like a Brooke Mueller situation, but if you told me that Keira was a cokehead, I would believe you.
More evidence that something’s up with her – check out this interview Keira did with The Telegraph. The writer is trying to be honest with what a spectacular pill Keira was, and she just seems so, so squirrelly. The full piece is here, and here are some of the highlights:
On sex scenes: ‘It’s a consensual thing,’ she says in her head girl’s voice. ‘You say what you’re comfortable with and everybody’s incredibly respectful. Certainly not what happens on a press day.’ She shoots me a dagger.
On the story line of Never Let Me Go: When I mention that I’ve been having strange dreams since seeing the film – a haunting story set in an appalling (and frighteningly plausible) alternative reality – she tells me, ‘You’re the third person who’s said that today.’
Keira on her relationship with Carey Mulligan: She and Mulligan are close friends in real life, which made shooting the vicious scenes between their characters a challenge. ‘I just kept on having to say, “I’m so sorry,”’ says Knightley. ‘And she’d be like,’ she adopts a soothing tone, ‘“It’s all right. It’s just pretend. It’s fine.”
On taking smaller roles: ‘That was a choice,’ she says. ‘I worked solidly from the age of 16 to 22 without a holiday. And then at 22 I took a year off – which was needed! And since then it’s been supporting roles. I mean, time off in between is important; it was quite mental at one point.’
On being a child actor: The young Keira auditioned constantly – ‘Some kids did karate, I went to auditions’ – including four fruitless attempts at the BBC One series Casualty. ‘They were humiliating,’ Knightley says with feeling. ‘You walk in a room and they obviously think you’re s—. So you walk out again. I mean the rejection level of anyone who does anything like that… It is quite a savage process.’
On whether Keira and Rupert Friend are still together: Her boyfriend of five years, the actor Rupert Friend, apparently gave out batches of her gluten-free brownies on the set of his latest film, The Kid. It’s a very cosy, wifely image: sending your partner out to work with your foil-wrapped home-cooking in his knapsack. So I ask her, as she’s telling me how therapeutic it is to make melanzane alla parmigiana, if she and Friend now live together. ‘I don’t talk about my boyfriend,’ she snaps, as fast and as sudden as a trapdoor slamming shut. ‘Not answering anything about it.’ A moment passes in which she looks at me as though I’ve just asked the head of MI5 if I can have a go on his computer. ‘Definitely not answering that. No!’ she exclaims with a big, angry laugh.

Obviously, if she doesn’t want to answer any questions about her personal life, she doesn’t have to. I don’t even have a problem with her way of shooting down questions about her personal life, although she might stop to think that journalists have their job, just the same as her, and it wouldn’t hurt her to be a bit more professional. But it seems like she was just in a horrendous mood for this interview. Or maybe it’s something worse.
Oh, and I do think Keira and Rupert probably split up. Eh.

eh. she and her underbite way of talking do nothing for me. she always had a really high opinion of herself, takes herself VERY seriously, and comes across pretentious and condescending. i dont like her acting either. too much teeth in every scene.
Eh. She sounds perfectly fine and reasonable to me. She’s always been private and journalists just like to give it their own spin.
Mmm…I like Keira so I wish she is not in drugs. I think she might be having problems with Rupert and from that, it comes her toughness….Who knows?

I used to like her before Pirates but then after Pirates, I started not to like her and found her to be a really boring interview. She is beautiful but rather vapid.
I very much doubt that she is a cokehead. She has always been very private about her personal life & while I hope she & Rupert are still together, it really isn’t anyone’s business if they aren’t. I do think that his bringing her home made cookies (or whatever) hints to them still being together.

Of course it was-the choices of the casting directors who realize that she cannot carry a movie and is a mediocre actress, at best.
i dont think there is ever any reason to snap unless the interviewer was being rude. it’s her job to be interviewed and its the reporters job to ask questions, shes at work and should act more professionally.
Maybe some sandwich might help?
I saw Never Let Me Go this weekend and I was surprised at how odd she looked in it, I’m not sure what it was, but she just looked weirder then I remember her…she’s always been thin, but maybe eating disorder?
She does come off as bitchy in this interview, but I can’t help thinking how gorgeous she is. Damn.
I honestly kind of like it when stars get pissy with interviewers or with paps because I think 9 times out of 10 the line is being crossed. And I think if you’ve spent years being asked questions by people who you know don’t give a shit about your personal life is any significant way, I don’t really blame people for keeping things to themselves or being downright pissy when asked about stuff. Its none of your business and you don’t genuinely care, so why should I tell you anything? It sounds like she was just having a bad day but the interviewer should’ve known better than to ask. It’s not like Jessica Simpson where she’s begging you to bring it up. Keira is known for being private, and I respect that way more than celebrity oversharing, even when the person is being a bitch or condescending about it.
Yawn.

If the journalist had done her homework she would have known personal questions were inappropriate. But she messed up and decided to try to blame someone else for her failings. Note that nothing Keira actually said was in any way inappropriate. It’s just the journalist trying to make herself interesting.
And Lainey’s drug fantasies are beyond laughable. Keira is about to appear on stage in London eight times per week for more than three months. So no, she’s not hiding somewhere with a drug problem. On the contrary she’s making more public appearances than ever. Just not of the gossip magazine kind.
I like her. I don’t believe she has a drug problem, but maybe some kind of eating disorder: so, so thin, and I remember an interview where she said her family had an history in eating problems. I hope she’s ok and healthy, though!
The problem here is not her, but the journalist. Here’s the thing. Interviews are always EDITED for print or view, unless live tv interview.
That we even know about this is because the interviewer thought it fit to print, i.e. she thought it would sell the story. She did not have to mention how “angry” Keira was, but CHOSE to do so.
She could have just said Keira didn’t want to talk about her personal life. But no, this interviewer smelled blood and wrote this hysteric, over the top hit piece about how Keira all flipped out. Wanna bet that this interviewer also baited Keira, that this person was not as innocent as she claims in the article?
Whenever an interviewer tries so hard to make you dislike the subject, I question their motives. And it would appear that when she asked about Rupert Friend, she actually interrupted something that Keira was saying: “So I ask her, as she’s telling me how therapeutic it is to make melanzane alla parmigiana, if she and Friend now live together.” Sorry, that seems rude, to me. Whatever.
I don’t think she has a drug problem, I just think she’s tired of being asked the same questions over and over again in every single interview. The interviewer comes across as way more annoying than Keira here, IMO. Interviewers are warned by publicists about what celebrities are comfortable talking about before they meet with them. This lady most likely knew that KK doesn’t appreciate questions about her relationship, but went ahead (interrupting, like someone already said) and asked anyway. I’d be pissed, too.

Kind of agree with you…except…thought she was very ‘at home’ in her role as Domino ( forgettable title)- she seemed to be very natural at being a violent, crazazy, manipulative beeeyotch. Meh. BTW, while I find her interview persona(s) no less than irritating (kinda hate them actually, so fake/pretentious), I generally essentially like her as an actress…weird?
