Jude Law is pissed at Robert Downey Jr.’s support of Mel Gibson

wenn5414764

Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. famously became BFFs during the filming of the first Sherlock Holmes movie. The two are currently working on the sequel, and according to the Enquirer, there are some strains in the friendship. One particular string, specifically: Mel Gibson. RDJ notably refused to say anything critical about Mel Gibson over the past year of “glum c-nt” bombs and revelations about beatings. RDJ’s history with Mel is well known – back when RDJ was really drugged out, Mel gave him a job, and when RDJ first became clean for the last and final time but still found himself uninsurable, Mel once again got him work. I believe Mel always supported RDJ’s recovery and encouraged his sobriety on a personal level as well as a professional level, and RDJ still feels that he owes Mel a great debt. BUT – Jude Law thinks it’s high time that RDJ cut his ties to Mel, and that the time for honoring one’s debt to another man ends when that man is telling his girlfriend that he’s going to bury her in the rose garden.

Tensions are running high between former friends Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. during the filming of Sherlock Holmes 2 – and it’s all Mel Gibson’s fault!

RDJ has remained friends with Mel, and he’s publicly supported Mel over the last year, and “that’s not sitting well with Jude. Robert and Mel talk nearly every day, and Jude just can’t get his head around it,” said a source.

“Jude thinks what Mel did to Oksana was appalling, and he doesn’t think Hollywood should be supporting someone who’s behaved that way. In Jude’s mind, Mel’s reputation is also tarnished for his disgraceful behaviors beyond Oksana – his anti-Semitism, sexism, aggression and his drinking problem. Jude thinks he’s been given enough second chances, and it annoys him that RDJ has allegiances to him.”

Sadly, Mel has come between Robert and Jude.

“They share the same sense of humor and really enjoyed hanging out together… now they barely talk between scenes.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition]

A few weeks ago, I saw an Entertainment Tonight exclusive, on the set with Jude and RDJ… and they didn’t seem as tight and bromantic as they once did. Is it because of Mel? Or do they just have other crap going on?

Also – I’m not saying Jude is anywhere near Mel Gibson as far being a nasty bastard, but Jude does have some crap in his past and his life that is sketchy too. I mean… Jude shouldn’t be so judgy. So RDJ won’t bail on a man who stood by him throughout the years – what’s it to Jude?

Seems like Jude should mind his own business. I have no love for MG but Oksana doesn’t seem like any sort of prize either. RDJ obviously understands the ugliness of addiction; he probably lost loads of friends when he was waking up in stranger’s homes in Malibu.

  2. embertine says:

Did RDJ really publicly support Mel? I thought he made some neutral comment when asked about it but otherwise kept (wisely) quiet.

This sounds like yet another Enquirer fairy story.

  3. WYIJM says:

Seriously dislike Mel, but respect RDJ for his loyalty.

  4. mary jane says:

This all sounds way too girly to me.

  5. Kaboom says:

Agree with WYIJM. Jude isn’t the one who can afford throwing stones what with banging the nanny.

  6. Carol says:

Having a hard time imagining why Mel’s name would keep creeping into their on-set conversations so much that tensions would rise. Or was this one big “I can’t believe I read months ago that you said . . .” blow out that hasn’t been resolved? Either scenario sounds fishy to me. Totally agree with emberine’s fairy tale theory.

  7. Brittney says:

I love RDJ and always have, but I’d have a difficult time being friendly with him, too. Just as I have a difficult time maintaining my former love for Natalie Portman and Johnny Depp after they signed their support for a rapist.

The victims of rape and domestic violence are the only ones entitled to forgive someone for it. Some things are absolutely socially intolerable, and while I don’t think it’s impossible to learn from such horrific behavior and to grow, I do think it’s ignorant and even dangerous to support someone who still hasn’t even faced the consequences of what they did to other human beings. In all of RJD’s battles, I don’t think he was ever accused of mistreating or abusing other people, and that’s why he deserved Mel’s help. Mel doesn’t deserve his.

  8. mln76 says:

Surprisingly enough eventhough I think Mel is a creepy dude and I think his combo of anti-semitism, racism, and pattern of abusive behavior is despicable and unexcusable. I understand RDJ’s loyalty. He shouldn’t abandon his friend and I don’t think sticking by him is the same as condoning his actions.

  9. Rita says:

I assume that RDJ returned Mel’s support with some private scoldings as a good friend would so RDJ’s loyalty is a big plus for me.

  10. brin says:

Yeah, this doesn’t sound true to me, but if it is, I don’t see where Jude Law has any say in who RDJ stands by. He should want a friend like that for when he pulls his next douche move (and he will).

  11. nycmom10024 says:

Whatever! I think they both have a right to their opinions.

  12. OriginalGracie says:

Well I love both of them but I don’t blame Jude one bit for being disgusted that RDJ would stick up for Mel.

The time of being Mel’s friend, or defending him or anything that approaches being friendly towards him is DONE and OVER.

I feel the same way about people being pro-Mel as I would if they said they were pro-OJ. They are the same kind of people in my book.

My god, look at all the venom that Mel has spewed…not to mention the violence, hatred towards women, Jews, cops, babies, anyone who disagrees with him.

And yes, I am disgusted with Jodie Foster too.

  13. WhiteNoise says:

Hark at St Jude!! 🙄 Regardless of what I think about Mel Gibson, RDJ’s loyalty to someone who stood by him through the tough times says so much about RDJ, and the type of person he is. Which is a good, decent, non-judgemental one who, probably like Jodie Foster, knows that there’s a bit more to Mel than the obnoxious and borderline deranged public profile he’s had in recent times.

  14. tapioca says:

I wonder how RDJ feels about JL banging the nanny or abandoning his “love” child? Come on Inquirer – make some BS up about that!

  15. truthzbetta says:

Jude’s a well known asshole who’s harmed his kids and wife, and that’s what we do know.

RDJ’s life and career were saved by Mel Gibson in many deep ways so if RDJ doesn’t ask Jude how he went from most do-able man alive to bald and douchie Jesse James type then maybe Jude can STF up about RDJ’s personal opinion of someone who hoisted him off a battlefield to safety at his own risk. MYOB Jude.

  16. Whatever says:

Mel stood by RDJ when nobody else in Hollywood did and others had written him off. I like that RDJ is not trashing Mel now and think Jude should STFU, mind his own business and maybe go visit the baby he abandoned. He has little room to judge others, but the most judgmental are usually also the most screwed up.

  17. OriginalGracie says:

@tapioca: I don’t think banging the nanny or not wanting to involve himself with a child that he did not intend upon having is the same as being a woman-hating, jew-hating, venom-spewing wreck of a man careening around Hollywood.

Not the same at all. I understand what you’re saying but though Jude has his own shortcomings, they are nothing like the demons Mel has flying around in his head.

Plus……it shows that Jude has good taste to be dismayed that RDJ would want to stick up for Mel. I would be if anyone told me that.

  18. Vi says:

this actually makes me respect jude law a little. i mean judes a cheater but that’s no where near the same level as mel. he has every right to be judgy i think.

  19. Henriette says:

Team RDJ. Refusing to kick a drunk a**hole when he’s down is VERY different from condoning his behaviour. I don’t believe this story, anyway. Why would Jude give a f*ck?

  20. cara says:

I like both Mel (sugar tits) gibson and RDJ. Both guys who go against the Hollywood (drip/lib) grain.

just outta curiosity, did LAW sign the Polanski petition????

  21. jen says:

Jude needs to shut his nanny-banging pie hole.

  22. KIM says:

    Team Jude and Rdj

This is RDJ response to the Enquire

“We asked Robert’s rep about the rumored feud and he responded by asking us “Which award winning news outlet made this one up?” After being told that our buddies at the tabloid printed the story, the rep went ahead and cleared things up by joking: “Robert and Jude are still sleeping together. Sorry to disappoint the Enquirer.”

  23. lmp says:

This is a tough one. what would you do?

  24. Thanks for that Kim! Lol!

  25. tapioca says:

Sorry OriginalGracie, I was actually referring to this being made up by the Enquirer and them being a little lazy by not putting words in RDJ’s mouth too, NOT comparing their crimes! Although, Jude’s treatment of the females in his life would suggest that “woman-hating” isn’t that far off the mark. He certainly seems to treat them as disposable…

  26. CallieTrichid says:

I hardly think banging a nanny and cheating on your spouse is comparable to threatening to kill and bury your girlfriend, actually physically harming her (slapping), being an anti-semite, sexist, and alcoholic. Maybe there’s other things in Jude Law’s closet, but I think they’re pretty miniscule comparatively.

I dgaf for Jude Law before this, now I kind of like him for standing up. At least he knows when to cut someone off. It is kind of unnecessary, but it was probably some of those things that came up in conversation while working on the set and just got progressively more strained and awkward.

There’s something to be said for loyalty, absolutely, but if you’re (or rather, RDJ) not going to do anything with that loyalty to help a friend out and help them stop the behaviors? Eh. That’s just enabling to me. And maybe he is doing something to help and no one knows, but eh. I’m Team Law on this one.

  27. OriginalGracie says:

@tapioca: I’m so sorry! I did not realize you meant the Enquirer. I hope you did not think I was attacking you!

You are right that Jude has shown poor decision making skills in the lady department. Letting the little head think for the big head is always trouble.

I do give him a pass for not wanting to be a dad to the newest child. IMHO a man is not under any obligation to be DAD to a child under those circumstances. If you are a woman and get knocked up, you have to realize that the father may or may not want to be a part of that. If you chose to have the baby, that is your decision. He may not ever want to come around. I see nothing wrong with that and she is being paid per month from him for child support so she is luckier than most women.

I got knocked up, the dad didn’t want the baby so I had her myself and he never gave me a dime. I don’t regret that at all…it was my decision to make (having the baby) and it was a good one!

Maybe Jude has grown up a bit here and has learned something from his mistakes.

  28. OriginalGracie says:

AND………seeing that last pic makes me see how much Mel needs a teeth whitening…he is starting to look alot like a very seedy Satan.

  29. kpist says:

Jude Law is a cheating bastard, remember the nanny and Sienna, glass house Jude, glass house.

  30. original kate says:

i’m not buyng this. i think as a former addict RDJ is not going to publicly comment on other people’s addictions. mel did give him a job when he needed one, and i’m sure he’s is grateful for that but i seriously doubt he is all bromantic with mad mel.

i loved RDJ & jude in “sherlock holmes” and will definitely see the sequel. yay!

  31. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

I call BullSh!t! I dont think this is an issue at all!

  32. Stronzilla says:

Oh yeah, because Jude Law holds women in such high esteem himself.

  33. I Choose Me says:

Yeah, I’m with embertine. And I saw the ET clip. They look pretty friendly to me. Eye contact, check. Leaning towards each other in the way that friends do, check. Law doesn’t strike me as a judgy person at all. i.e. he may or may not approve of RDJ standing behind Mel but I don’t think he’d give RDJ sh-t about it.

  34. Cassie says:

RDJ’s rep denied it sometime yesterday, I think.

    http://www.gossipcop.com/jude-law-robert-downey-jr-fighting-feud-mel-gibson/

Whether that means it’s not true, who knows, but RDJ’s camp is claiming it’s not.

  35. WhiteNoise says:

Thanks for that, Kim. I now retract my ‘hark at St Jude’ comment and vow not to be so hasty in future (or at least take the time to read the source as the National Enquirer!)

  36. garvels says:

Isn’t Jude the guy who boinks the hired help-nanny,while still married with 4 kids while also having a mistress. Oh and I forgot, after he dumps the wife, the nanny and the mistress leaves him, temporarily, he gets another girl pregnant, who he subsequently dumps to go back to the mistress!? Jude has no business judging anything!!!!!!!!!!

  37. Eileen says:

I think I should just take Jude and RDJ into the bedroom and we can hash all this out privately. 🙂

  38. SolitaryAngel says:

I agree with WYIJM; I respect RDJ’s loyalty, and can understand it without actually judging him a lesser man for it. Maybe JL should try that. After all, a true friend is someone who knows your flaws but loves you anyway, right?

  39. Jeannified says:

Jude needs to back off…what RDJ does is his own business. I don’t condone what Mad Mel did, but needs to chill on this.

  40. Dee says:

Firstly, He understands what it is like to be in the death grip of addiction. He’s fought very hard to get sober and I thought his recent success would have provided the $$$ to fund a relapse- good for him it didn’t.

Secondly, Gibson put up the money to insure Downy in his first movie after a long stint in rehab. No one could hire him if they wanted to due to his track record- the premium made him virtually uninsurable and therefore unemployable. Gibson helped him get his life back. I wouldn’t forget that.

  41. Patricia says:

Perhaps RDJ believes it is not right to bad mouth somebody in public like so many did to him. Jude needs to look in a mirror and why should Jude care about Mel Gibson? Why should we?

  42. KIM says:

I think I should just take Jude and RDJ into the bedroom and we can hash all this out privately.

    Eileen

I totaly agree with your statement.

    I’m in

  43. Amy says:

Do any of us have a personal relationship with Mel Gibson? No. RDJ does, however, and it is obviously a positive one and he doesn’t see him as a villain.

Jude needs to mind his own business if this is true. If RDJ indeed talks to Mel everyday, he is probably trying to help him in the way Mel helped him when he hit rock bottom.

  44. lrm says:

what a weird story! i cannot even imagine it!
i am sure they are both friends with a number of people [or at least ‘friendly’ in the bidness], who have speculative pasts or current personal lives….

i cannot imagine JL discussing this with him at all. it’s not like MG and RDJ are all having coffee every day….

i wonde rif RDJ is off the wagon? i hope not-but hasn’t he been pulling out of stuff lately? erratic behavior can change a bromance.

then again, maybe they just have other things going on….

  45. Jeri says:

Regardless of what has happened, no one is obligated to make a public comment, for or against a person or a cause.

Keeping your mouth shut is the best action (non-action) in many cases. (Ask Sandra B)

I am definitely not a Mel fan but I am most definitely an RDJ fan!

  46. Darla says:

Jude needs to step off the moral high ground. He doesn’t have any business being there and the altitude will make him sick.

  47. Juicy Juice says:

In my opinion, anybody that believes this pile of cow dung non-news will bite onto any piece of feces dangled in front of them and probably rode the short bus.
Also, to those of you going on about Jude, your thoughts on that are just as screwed up and wrong as this Enquirer story. He cheated on his girlfriend. They’ve made up and moved on. You’ve taken it to new heights, though. Jude is not a woman hater and he’s certainly never threatened to kill anyone. But I think RDJ bots will say anything to defend their idol, even if it stems from made up lies. God, you people are pathetic.

  48. Chris says:

Most people cut their friends more slack than they’ll cut strangers, so it doesn’t surprise me that RDJ doesn’t join the conga line of people sticking the boot into Mel.

  49. cherry pie says:

Jude and RDJ are just fine. This is a non-story. But don’t let that stop your evil hearts from bashing Jude for something that he didn’t do. That seems to be entertainment for all you sweet, lovely, upstanding commenters who think nothing of bashing and saying awful things about someone who is being lied on. Yes, God is surely smiling down on your righteous souls as we speak.

  50. Jaana says:

Mel Gibson is an asshole..he hates women, asshole!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

IF it’s true (seems like it’s not), I would drop Gibson like yesterday’s guano. I don’t understand the dilemma and I don’t care a whit about loyalty when phrases like ‘oven dodgers’ are being thrown around. You have to draw a line in the sand and if that sounds judgemental, that’s because it is. My judgement would tell me that some things are too reprehensible to mollycoddle. Are to you going to even try to improve yourself? No? Then for fuck’s sake, go blow away. Do I lay down and weep at the thought of having mistaken offended the racists? Never.

Gibson gave him a job when no one else would, what does that have to do with punching his girlfriend? Gave him a job when no one else would? This isn’t someone taking too much Benadryl at a Habitat for Humanity site, it was the nineties, and half of his body weight was snort. You have to consider huge expense of hire a frequent liability like that, if he could be insured. He was the recidivism emperor then, but people were giving his jobs–he was on Ally McBeal, for the love of Joe. Remember that Elton John ‘From One Cokehead To Another’ video? Poor Robert, people still falling over him while he’s on lockdown. Yeah, okay, they never gave him a chance.

You know who they should keep hiring? Lohan! She’s about due for someone to give her a break! Well, I was funnin’ you on that one, and while I sounds like I hate the guy, I actually don’t. In truth, I like him. He got his life together, made it better for himself and his family, and is good at what he does- I respect that. I’m not going to say that he needs a halo because he got hooked on drugs (say ‘no’ Say, ‘I’m going to be the first person to improve my life exponentially through the power of crack pipes’, that’s dumb. I wouldn’t want to be beholden to a person with monstrous tendencies because of a misguided sense of loyalty. If that makes the child abusers cry, looks like it’ll be May in January because ‘Happy Birthday to me’.

Anyway, people can give you a job and still turn out to be horrible people and these people are called ’employers’. What about the great Polanski Clusterfuck? I’m not making a comparison of scale, here, I want that to be certain, but…who hired Leni Riefenstahl?

Remember that episode of The Simpsons when Marge developed a gambling disorder and Homer kept goading her with memories of his myriad past crimes which were automatically rendered null and void because she had done something wrong? Even Jude (allegedly, since this story is so fishy) gets an opinion. That said, That said, I don’t really understanf how so many people are sympathetic to the baby thing. Did the girl drug, restrain and rape him? No? Then there’s nothing to defend, he’s got to be close to 40, he knows how these things work. She must have trapped him with the powers of the occult to de-stablize his consent and Jedi mind tricked herself into pregancy.

  52. Lido Deck says:

The posters on here who are oh so outraged by this obviously made up story, so as to even rip Law apart for nothing, merely prove that you can’t fix stupid.
However, what is proven is Mel Gibson is a jew-hater and threatened to kill his baby mama, among other things. You mention Downey was messed up once, too, but Gibson is beyond messed up. He’s lethal.

  53. Darla says:

The fact that Mel Gibson is a pig doesn’t make Jude Law any less of a pig. They are both gigantic pigs. MG is a jew-hating pig. JL is a woman- hating pig. How anyone can come on and defend a man who refuses to ever see his year-old daughter amazes me.

  54. Liana says:

Just because someone doesn’t speak out, or even speak, publicly about someone doesn’t mean they condone the behavior. My best friend did some pretty shitty things when he was drinking and snorting. He even went to jail for assault. I never condoned those behaviors. Ever. But I never stopped caring about Pete and I was certainly no less grateful that he saved me from something pretty bad. In the end, he did his time, he eventually got sober (I refused to hang with him when he was drinking and drugging, but I never slammed him in public for it), and then he died. Caring about someone is not the same thing as condoning their behavior.

  55. Lido Deck says:

Oh Darla, how do you know when and where he sees his daughter? HUH? You’re just a loud mouth busy body that needs someone to hate on and a box of Swiss Cake Rolls to get through the day. (= the real pig). Jude is NOT a woman hater, you silly hateful twit. I WILL defend him against hating idiots like you that don’t have a clue and don’t want one. LOSER!!!

  56. Emmy says:

This is complete speculation, its the National Enquirer!

That said, if it is true, as a long time follower of RDJ (he’s always been my No. 1), my rose coloured have been falling off recently. For instance, I wish he’d given Ricky a smart, witty response at the Globes, instead of going all spoilt Hollywood, its not like he hasn’t got the intelligence to do so.

I’m no fan of Jude Law, but to even think of compare him to Gibson on any level, there are no words.

  57. Solveig says:

I think it would be hard to RDj to say something against MG, publicly, AND I think he shoudn’t do that.
I have a huge respect for RDj and although I don’t know him personally I think that he’s intelligent enough to understand that MG behaviour is wrong on every level and he also knows that he doesn’t need the whole world to know his opinion on the issue. I think it is a matter of – broken? – friendship, therefore it’s a private matter.

  58. Jen Jen says:

Emmy, I completely agree. Why is anybody discussing anything that the Enquirer makes up? I really like the reply from Robert’s rep. It was great.

Unlike you, I actually didn’t mind Robert’s comeback to Ricky. I think it was okay for the celebrities to respond. I thought Rob’s response was directly proportional to Ricky’s introduction. I took it all in great fun.

Also unlike you, I do like Jude and have for a long time. You’re right, you can’t even compare him to Mel.

I’ve always liked Mel, too, but was very disappointed in his racial outbursts and then more recently his threatening outbursts to Oksana. Very few compare to that.

  59. *-* says:

Judy girl needs to grow up.
    Go RDJ!

  60. ~M says:

RDJ is SO fine, I’ve just swallowed my candy without chewing it!

  61. Sadie F. says:

Jude is such a little bitch! He’s shown his true colours more than once or twice so he is in absolutely no position to be judging any misdeeds. Not a big fan of Mel or Oksana.

  62. Eileen says:

Alright KIM let’s do it, while these people squabble about who is right, we’ll get down to the real business of the night! lol

  63. Denise says:

This is one of those times where you put it out of your mind, it’s really none of your business regardless of how much it kills you.

Besides, Mel Gibson should have a problem with RDJ being friends with a guy who consistently wears women’s scoop neck t-shirts.

  64. di butler says:

I can tell none of you have ever worked in the movie business. I’ve heard major directors and writers call people the most vile and homophobic slurs imaginable. You know why you don’t have people talking about it? Because you don’t piss off the ppl who might put you in a big box office hit. Gibson seems like he is pretty racist, but he’s by no means alone.

  65. crtb says:

Jude is no one to talk.

  66. Liana says:

I can tell none of you have ever worked in the movie business.
    *****************

I work in the film and television business and yes, you are right. There are some nasty pieces of work, but it’s not everyone.

  67. Darla says:

#57 go take your medication and calm down. You are way too upset over someone who doesn’t even know or care that you exist.

  68. Whatever says:

If you are a woman and get knocked up, you have to realize that the father may or may not want to be a part of that. If you chose to have the baby, that is your decision.
    **************

And if you are a man, you should understand that when you stick it in random hookups, you may end up a daddy. Men who don’t want children, or any more children, should take steps to make sure they don’t have them. Birth control is the responsibility of BOTH people in the bed!! How the man acts when his partner gets pregnant and how he treats the child he created, even if accidentally, shows his true character.

Men in positions like Jude and Mel should be extra careful because those hookups are seeing dollar signs, something they actually have in common.

  69. LittleDeadGirl says:

I have a hard time believing this story. If they aren’t as tight it could be the stress of the job or something else. Also, while I think the shit going on with Mel is dispicable I am fully behind RDJ when the man showed some class and kept his mouth shut. But like I said, I don’t really honestly believe this story. Maybe they talked about it but I seriously doubt this is an issue between them. Seems random and pointless …

  70. Hakura says:

It’s hard for me to make a judgment as to what goes on in RDJ’s friendship with Mel. I know absolutely nothing about it, nor do I know either of them.

The things Mel has done…are beyond defense. He has some *serious* issues, & obviously an alcohol problem. I’m not sure in RDJ’s position, even having been helped by Mel in the past, I could continue to be any sort of friend to him. But not speaking out against Mel doesn’t mean he condones anything he’s done or said, either.

@OriginalGracie (29)- I do give him a pass for not wanting to be a dad to the newest child. IMHO a man is not under any obligation to be DAD to a child under those circumstances.

I’m not entirely sure I understand this statement. I really don’t know too much about Jude’s situation, I didn’t really keep up with the news on it, but I thought he had a ‘fling’ with a model, & she got pregnant? If that’s the case… where a guy makes the decision, has unprotected sex with a woman, then I don’t understand why he wouldn’t be under any obligation to be a ‘dad’.

    But perhaps I misunderstood?

  71. Zoe says:

First of all, this story is most likely not true. Secondly, why would Jude Law be in any position to discuss Mel’s treatment of his girlfriend? Didn’t Jude cheat on his wife by screwing his kid’s babysitter? I thought so.

  72. Shay says:

What gets me is that every single website makes out like Mel Gibson is the most evil man in America, which isn’t really accurate. That title could be shared among George W Bush Snr and Jnr, Rupert Murdoch, among other luminaries that actually have pushed agendas that have killed millions of people around the globe. And if we step into the past, let’s not forget Richard Nixon as well.
    Perspective people.

  73. hmm(the original) says:

So, RDJ is a good human being for remaining loyal to his troubled friend but Whoopi is the devil’s spawn for being loyal to the same troubled friend…

  74. Jazz says:

C’mon, this is the national enquirer. They must sit there in tiny little cubicles just pulling the most unbelievable stuff out of their asses then type it up.

  75. Lisa says:

I’m with RDJ. I don’t agree w/ what Gibson’s done (who does?) but I understand where RDJ is coming from — he isn’t going to be disloyal to someone who helped him out like that, nor is he going to judge someone.

  76. LondonLady says:

    People in glass houses….

  77. Gandolf Fintch says:

There is nothing wrong with being loyal to someone that helped you. But there is something wrong with defending that person when they’ve hurt other people.

  78. Chris says:

If not criticising Mel Gibson is the worst thing you can accuse RDJ of then he must be doing alright.

  79. Nimrod says:

Most of you are as ignorant as this story. How are you any better when you just keep repeating misinformation when you could easily learn what really happened to Mel? Will you change your mind when Oksana is arrested for extortion and evidence tampering? I think we’re all pretty tired of hearing these man haters dis on every male that makes a mistake. Your choices resulted in you being with an abusive man. It’s your fault! The man didn’t change, it was always there. That was what attracted you to him. Get some therapy and grow up.

  80. fwozbo says:

Not sure, but I thought RDJ wife is Jewish so I am not sure how he feels about Mel now. Plus I heard he really credits her for getting his life back on track this last time and staying on track.

  81. Isabella says:

I agree with OriginalGracie, when it comes to Mel, I am team Law.

  82. Law Is A Hypocrite says:

Meanwhile the same hypocrites had nothing bad to say about a convicted rapist and wife batterer who served time in prison for his crimes staring in The Hangover. Oh yeah, forgot about Mike Tyson, yet Mel Gibson who has decades of good will gets the cold shoulder and has not been convicted of touching Oksana. Jude Law should remember his own misogynistic behavior toward women.

  83. coexxi says:

I call this story BS. Other than that: even if I’m in someones debt there is a line and if this line is crossed than the friendship is over. Violent and rassisitic behavior would be such a line for me.

And of course JL isn’t all holy and shit but to compare a cheater with an abusive wife beater and rassist is really a strange outlook at reality.

  84. OriginalGracie says:

    @Isabella: Thank you. : )

  85. crila says:

Mel supported RDJ when no one else would. I don’t think RDJ publicly supports Mel for what he did and his behavior…and I’m sure RDJ does not agree with it. However, Mel has never done anything specifically to RDJ for RDJ to cut him out of his life. He’s only been there for RDJ. People need to grow up. You may disagree with someone’s beliefs, but if they’ve never done anything directly to you…you can’t really shun them. You’ll just have to agree to disagree. Stop trying to turn everyone.

  86. Crash2GO2 says:

All I recall is that RDJ declined to make a public statement about Mel’s recent situation. Period. That does not mean he is Mel’s best buddy, condones his actions, or speaks to him on a regular basis.

    Much ado about nothing methinks.

  87. Sam says:

Isn’t it ODD that anyone that has KNOWN Mel, has worked with him or for him or been partners on some project etc. have ALL claimed the same: he’s kind, generous, polite, funny, and other like adjectives. Except for the proven liar Ox-face.

And isn’t it Odd that ALL that have come out and said bad things about him have NOT known him personally and further: EVERY ONE of the them has been associated with William Morris Agency, every one of them has a failing or borderline failing career? Zach from HO2, Winona Ryder, B. Waters, Joy Behar, R. Snieder, etc, now Jude Law.

Coincidence the all work for/have serious career connections to the ONE guy that public ally plead for all to boycott Mel in 2006 (hello! Alcohol is NOT a truth serum if it was it would be use din every court in every land. Get a clues people!) And he is also the ONE guy that has had a person vendetta against Mel since Mel refused to take him on as an agent long ago? Coincidence?? YOU think so?….I have this bridge I’d sell you….

  88. LalaLAND says:

Didn’t read all the replies – takes effort.
To me, they still look bromancy. I mean, Jude still gave RDJ his full attention when he spoke… It still looked like that bloody schoolgirl crush business.
I don’t think it’s any of Jude’s business. Not a huge Gibson fan, don’t care much for what the media have to say about celebrities, so I actually have no idea what went on with Gibson. But after all the shit RDJ did, while Gibson stood by him, can anyone really blame him for doing the same?
    (Jude’s probably jealous :P)

  89. Sunny says:

This is all such obvious bullshit. These two are obviously fond of each other; anyone who spends a few seconds watching the way they are whenever they’re around one another knows this. All the pics of them presenting an Oscar at the Academy Awards with the two of them together—and afterwards at the Vanity Fair interviews & party cleary show that they are still VERY close. It’s not an act; what I can’t figure out is who the hell has nothing else to do with their time beyond making up silly shit about the two of them “feuding” like a couple of kids over something this ridiculous. I can’t imagine Jude saying anything this juvenile. Love Mel and the fact that he stood by Robert during the crap years of his life; Robert is doing the same for him now. As far as Jude goes, everything is just FINE between he & Robert. To quote one of Robert’s reps, “Robert and Jude are still sleeping together. Sorry to disappoint the Enquirer.” Now THAT I believe.

  90. Hanne says:

oh my, were there troubles between them????

If you ask me, Jude should shut up! Mel Gibson may not be the most fine husband, it couldn’t have been a reason to fight Robert like that! Robert’s loyalty deserves admiration and respect. Besides, Robert did get his second chance too after his stupidities. He has learned from them. And what Jude says doesn’t make sense either since what happened between Mel Gibson and his wife has nothing to do with what lives between him and Robert. So to say that Robert’s loyalty stops when Gibson abuses his wife…where’s the point??

  91. kristy says:

I love Robert Downey jr. i am the biggest fan even though I’m young i am the ultimate fan I’ve seen most of the movies he’s been in even the really old one from before my days. ps i think we should forgive Mel already if people can forgive the other celebrities for their bad choices why we can’t forgive him in my opinion. pps cant wait for the sequel 9 days left.

  92. debba says:

“Celebitchy aims to be a friendly, welcoming site”

Seriously? In one sentence you can do THAT? It’s like saying “Pedobear.com is open to children of all ages!”

Wow. This article is why I hope sites like this will inevitably fail and those like Popsugar will succeed…
