My cousin works for celebs finding them charities and causes to help promote. Most of the time this is arranged w/ their managers, assts, etc. Miley Cyrus calls up randomly asking if she can help. When my cousin asks her, “Do you want a mag cover, paps, etc, at the event,” she says, “No,nothing!! I just want to help.” She gives tons of her money to charities. I met her at a CF function a few yrs back. Couldn’t have been more normal, genuine. Like her or hate her, she really is a very nice and down to earth gal.

The Egypt situation is really scary. As frustrating as US politics often are, when I see stuff like that, I feel very fortunate that our exchanges of power are peaceful. I wish the best to the people there and hope it comes to a peaceful resolution soon.

OMG, who cares if someone who knows the problems of sex at a young age wants to talk about abstinence? Everyone needs to stop and realize that the only reason people claim to have a problem with abstinence education is because the people who spout off about it are usually bible thumping whackadoos, but honestly, someone can be completely wrong about every single thing they believe and still be right one time.
What’s wrong with saying to a group of young girls that they don’t have to have sex to be popular, be in a relationship, get a relationship? They all already know full well how to use a condom. Why not also take the time to mention that, in case you young girls forgot, you don’t have to do this and it’s actually the only way you can be sure you won’t get pregnant or get a disease. How is that not true and/or why is that evil?
Also, being a lifelong St. Louisian, I’m only shocked that Wash U invited her in the first place. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they invited her only so they could disinvite her later. Wash U is very, very liberal. Their students are very intelligent, liberal and many come from families who are very well off. I don’t see how Bristol’s message will in any way infect them with religious intolerance or right wing douchebaggery. If anything they should’ve played the bigger role and forced her to agree to a debate with members of the student body who disagree with her. This is supposed to be a place of open debate and learning. That should include talking to and listening to people whose opinions you dislike.

except that, apparently, they don’t. girls who have abstinence-only sex education start having sex an average one year later than other girls, but when they *do* start having sex, they use contraception of any kind at significantly lower rates, and condoms very much less. it’s what’s referred to as the ‘the hell with it’ effect in the field. they also have anal sex at much higher rates than other girls. i have no idea what that’s about — the ‘hog-wild’ effect?

However, I appologize, but I do not subscribe to your entire idea, all be it refreshing none the less. It seems to me that your comments are not totally justified and in fact you are yourself not fully convinced of the argument. In any case I did enjoy reading it.
