Update: this photo is dated from 2006, and could not possibly show Palin’s daughter pregnant with Trig given his age.
Update 2: Bristol Palin, 17, is five months pregnant now. It is impossible for this story to be true at all and our apologies to their family for spreading it. Bristol was possibly pregnant in one of the photos below, but not with Trig.
One of the most interesting parts of political campaigns are the secrets that inevitably leak out. Yet more often than not, they’re not all that interesting – just interesting given the person’s position in society. But recent republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin – who’s very nomination shocked plenty of people – appears to have been keeping quite the secret of her own the last several months.
Not a Bill Clinton/ Monica Lewinsky level of scandal. Palin’s (alleged) secret is a much more private, familial matter, and her motivations could be argued as either self-centered or altruistic, depending on your point of view.
Palin, the Governor of Alaska, supposedly gave birth to her son Trig Paxson Van Palin in late April. However there is a detailed timeline on the website Daily Kos that indicates that it is unlikely (to the point of nearly impossible) that Palin gave birth to Trig, and that he is actually the son of her 16-year-old daughter Bristol.
Palin didn’t announce that she was pregnant until she was 7 months along. Her entire staff was completely shocked. Palin is 44 and has given birth to four children – women tend to show earlier and more obviously the more children they have, and the later in life they are. The exact opposite happened here.
I’m going to quote a few highlights from the article, but what really makes it clear that this story is probably true is the entirety of the evidence. I thought it seemed too sensational to be real (and certainly to go undiscovered) but once I finished reading every single point, I’m pretty convinced.
On Friday, April 18th, 2008, Sarah and her husband Todd were in Dallas, Texas for a Republican Governor’s Convention. They had been in town for three days already, but Sarah had yet to give her keynote speaker address on energy policy. Then early Friday morning at 4:00am, Sarah began leaking amniotic fluid. Instead of checking into a hospital, she instead made a call to her doctor, and delivered the keynote speech.
“I was not going to miss that speech,” she says.
She rushed so quickly from the podium afterwards that Texas Gov. Rick Perry nervously asked if she was about to deliver the baby then.
The oddities only grow from here on, as instead of rushing to a Dallas medical facility that could treat a mother who’s amniotic fluid has been draining for hours on end (made even more crucial due to the fact that this is occurring a full month prematurely), Sarah & Todd instead opted to… Fly all the way back from Texas to Alaska. A dangerous choice, as with each pregnancy (once again, in this case after four previous), a mother’s window of labor to delivery grows shorter and shorter.
Aboard Alaska Airlines, the flight lasted for eight hours, with an additional landing in Seattle. The majority of commercial airlines require mothers seven months pregnant to provide a doctor’s letter to fly, but Sarah did not inform the airline of her condition. Alaska Airlines is one of the few airlines that do not require such a notice, despite the possibility of an emergency landings being required in such scenarios. That said, no one on board noticed that Sarah was going into labor.
Eight months pregnant. A 6.2 pound fetus. No one notices a visible trace. By the third trimester, a perfectly fit woman not wearing anything less than a space suit should be easily spotted as pregnant. Not in Sarah’s case.
The plane then made a landing in Anchorage, Alaska. Does Sarah then visit a medical facility that can accommodate a premature birth in Alaska’s most equipped city? No. She drives 45 minutes away, to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center, right outside the small village she used to govern as Mayor, Wasilla. Trig Palin is then delivered one month premature, Friday night. Sarah returned to work after three days.
Her sixteen year-old daughter was.
Checking with the Anchorage High School that Bristol Palin attended, reporters were given word that her family had taken Bristol out of school due to contracting infectious mononucleosis. The amount of time Bristol was absent shifts from five to eight months.
Mono can last anywhere from two weeks to three months, but an eight month infection is a freak oddity. Yet it remains a common excuse given by girls in private & Catholic schools around the nation when pregnancy comes into play. Not the first time, not the last time.
[From the Daily Kos]
The article is very detailed and gives a chronological timeline that really makes you wonder how Palin could possibly be pregnant. It also makes you wonder how in the world she thought she could get away with something like this as a public figure. And as much as anything, it makes you wonder why the family made this decision, and if it had to do with what was best for Bristol or what was best for Sarah Palin’s career.
A lot of people are saying this isn’t that big deal, doesn’t matter, and won’t change people’s opinion of Sarah Palin. I agree that a pregnant teenager is a private family issue, and if the family had handled it differently that’d be one thing. But hearing someone is an outright liar about something this important is pretty upsetting. I know it happens, and it’s certainly not the greatest political lie of all time. But that doesn’t mean we should accept it.
Politicians aren’t perfect, and neither are their children. Who I really feel most sorry for are Bristol and Trig. They’re going to be under a lot of scrutiny. People make mistakes, and teenagers make a lot of them. Rarely is something like this so public, and I really hope the Palin’s choose to place a greater emphasis on what is better for their children/grandchildren than what’s best for their political image.
Note by Celebitchy: The baby in question has Down’s syndrome, and a lot of people are saying that points to an older mother. Of course Downs is more common with older mothers, but 80% babies with Downs are born to women under 35 due to the fact that more women under 35 have babies.
There are two pictures below of Palin’s daughter from the time she would have been pregnant – when she was out of school for 8 months for “mono.” I know this is a very sensational story, as Jaybird mentioned, but the evidence is compelling. The John Edwards story was ignored by the major news outlets until it became impossible to ignore. This is the potential Vice President of the United States and this type of story is incredibly newsworthy. Palin never looked pregnant (update: not true – see below) – her daughter did and dropped out of school, and the circumstances surrounding Palin’s pregnancy and birth are suspect to say the least.
The first picture is Palin six months into her pregnancy at the National Governor’s Association at the White House. Second picture is from February 28th, and the third is from March 3rd. The fourth photo is of Palin supposedly seven months pregnant after her official announcement. The fifth photo is Palin’s daughter Bristol in late 2007, and the sixth one is from the Anchorage Daily News published on March 9th.
Update: It’s entirely possible these are all a series of strange coincidences and that the baby is indeed Sarah Palin’s and not her daughters. If all these details are true – even if Palin just decided to fly 8 hours after her water broke, then drive another 45 minutes before giving birth – you can see how someone could come up with this conspiracy theory. Here are two photos of Palin looking very pregnant along with a link to the header caption which shows that the photo was taken in 2006 when Bristol could not possibly have been pregnant with Trig. [Thanks Scott F!]
Update 2: (same text as top update on page) Bristol Palin, 17, is five months pregnant now. It is impossible for this story to be true at all and our apologies to their family for spreading it. Bristol was possibly pregnant in one of the photos below, but not with Trig.

I think “liar” is a bit of a strong word. Sure, it’s possible that the family covered all this up strictly for mercenary career motivations, but if that were the case, the baby LEAVING the family to be adopted would be more likely.
I think that, if this story is true, the more likely motivation for it is that the parents wanted to protect their teenage daughter from losing all prospect of a “normal” youth because of a mistake…and wanted to keep the grandchild in the family and raise it as their own.
That’s doesn’t make these people liars. It makes them a family in hard spot.
All due respect, if Bill Clinton receiving blow jobs in the west wing is no one’s business and unrelated to his ability to run the country…how in the WORLD is this woman deciding to raise her grandchild as her own any more relevant to HER ability to run the country?
It isn’t.
If she claims the baby is her own, and is posing for photo ops holding the baby as her own, it does reflect on her truthfulness. It is lying to claim you had a baby when you didn’t, that you were pregnant when you weren’t, and it requires a series of lies and falsehoods that show this woman’s tenuous relationship with the truth. I don’t want someone running the country of either party who would perpetrate a falsehood on that scale, to the point where they told staff they were pregnant and even pretended to give birth. That’s outrageous. A person’s honesty and integrity matters above all else to me, and I can’t imagine someone scheming on that grand a scale – even for a “family matter” and thinking that it’s somehow justified or ok, because they’re sparing their daughter.
Well this is certainly a twist. I probably wouldn’t mind this so much if she wasn’t using the baby as some sort of gimmick. The republican party isn’t dumb – they know if they make this fighting mother who has 5 kids but still runs the world – people will like her and vote for her. You can see she is holding the baby in question as centered and a “look here and at us” as she can. I hate to sound so insensitive but they’re working all their angles. Also, if Palin really wants to support her pro-life tirade then she should talk about her first hand experience… but then again when this sort of thing happens to you it’s just not the same now is it?
I agree, CB, It’s not the cover up that matters – under ordinary circumstances that would be a private matter for the family – it’s the fact that, as an elected politican and now a potential VP, it raises huge questions about her integrity and her judgement.
And I’m sorry, but if she believed she could pull this off, what she comes across most as is stupid and arrogant – not exactly a ringing endorsement for a VP, is it?
I agree with CB here, enough bullpucky. Doesn’t the perceived need to lie about something make it all that much more clear that you find it wrong and shameful ? Bristol’s expressions and body language say it all.
Mom, Dad, get over it. Teens have babies, they need your love and support to make the best choices for their particular situation, NOT a bunch of lies and public subterfuge to maintain for the rest of their lives.
A bit off topic but where’s her eldest son ?
If this story is true, I wonder why they wouldn’t have tried to conceal the daughter’s body in the family picture published March 9. It is indicated in the caption that the photo was likely taken earlier, though. Again, IF the story is true, maybe the family didn’t know that Bristol was pregnant at the time the photo was taken, although she DOES seem to be showing a bit of a “belly.”
What seems most sad and disgusting about this type of deceit is that the whole family has to conspire to carry it off…forever. In other words, the other children are told what the plan is to pull this off and will have to go on and on lying indefinitely, to virtually everyone. That’s a screwy thing to do to kids. What does that teach them?
What will this secret grow in to, the next couple of months, when people start digging for the dirt? If she is lying, she is a fool to think anything good will come out of this, especially running for VP.
Wow, this whole thing is SO lifetime movie. From her meteoric rise into the veepstakes to secret mother… wow. Cast Tina Fey as her and they’re got themselves a ratings hit.
I disagree with the alleged motivations behind this scandal, if it’s true. I don’t think it was to keep her “polical image” in tact but rather, her image in general. I can think of just regular, conservative families who’ve done this type of thing to save face at church or within the family. It doesn’t suprise someone as uber-conservative as Sarah Palin might do it — whether her state (and country) where watching or not.
Looks like Bristol’s wearing an engagment ring in the last pic.
Miss.. miss … me miss… miss miss… me.
In politics what’s left out is just as important as left in, especially when it comes to very detailed reports. Many report writers have the tendency to be very specific on the aspects of a report that proves their favoured outcome. So it’s out job as readers to fill in the blanks of what’s possibly not being included.
For example. (1) The daughter’s time out of school “shifted” from 5 months to 8 months. When did this happen?
Could part of that damning eight months include the school holidays of the previous year?
(July and August would be the first months of her alleged pregnancy)
Personally, if the girl is well enough to do photo-ops, she’s well enough to go to school. Perhaps she stayed out of school for another reason? Bullying perhaps? Or depression?
(2)If monothingy is such a popular excuse to keep girls out of school, presumably this is because the maximum incubation period is 3 months. Roughly corresponding with the last stages of pregnancy. A young first time mother only really starts showing when she’s five months, and the change can be sudden.
So, in that event, why not have the child remain at school until her fourth or fifth month, before she began to show obviously and avoid curiosity?
(3) Sarah Palin went to all that trouble to create this ruse – and she never once thought to shove a pillow up under her dress?
Nevermind your politican being “politically expedient” (lying to you and me), I would worry more that she was just plain thick!
(4) Ok, fair enough, the image of Sarah in the brown top allegedly 7 months along – well she just doesn’t look pregnant; having said that, neither does the daughter.
To be honest I find the time-line intriguing but not compelling. It just reeks of the political chicanery that’s going on around this election with all sorts of “Chinese Whispers” going around the net. Snope’s “what’s New” section has dozens of tales about both candidates in an attempt to discredit them.
That’s all love and politics. But here you also have the life and integrity of a 16 year old girl to consider. Even if her parents were cruel enough to call her Bristol.
As my lawyer says “We LOVE it when the other side lies! That’s how we win cases”. This is such a big lie that there is no going back, nowhere for this to spin in the right direction.
As much as I am pro-choice, I do feel bad for her children who have to deal with this lie their whole lives. At least the baby has Down’s syndrome, so he won’t have to deal with it his whole life. Small blessing in this case.
BTW, somebody should look up the statistics of 16 year olds having babies with Down’s. It should be higher than a 25 year old, which is what all the statistics are citing (and which is the optimal age to give birth)
Oooh, I relish this. Anything that has in it the potential to bring Obama into the White House a bit more is welcome in my book.
I agree with what’s been said here: if this is true (and I have a feeling and immense hope it is), then she didn’t only lie, she lied stupidly. Both stupidity and mythomania aren’t attributes you’d want in a VP.
In the pic where Bristol is holding Trig (what kind of a name is that anyway), she looks very much like she could be his mum. It looks more natural than Palin with him anyway. Then again, I want to see it like this.
Go Obama! 🙂
The photo leading this article was taken in 2006. The baby was born in 2008. I don’t believe it’s possible for a human to be pregnant for 21 months. So unless Sarah’s daughter is an elephant, that “bump” is probably pizza, not progeny.
And the other thing that puzzles me about this is why McCain didn’t vet his choice of VP more thoroughly? It just smacks of desperation on his part to select someone who ‘looks’ good for the voters without bothering to check their credentials.
But hey ho. Makes him come across, yet again, as arrogant, clueless and completely out of touch.
Julie send a link or other proof that the photo was taken in 2006 please.
Julie, the picture of Bristol that people are seeing a “bump” in is the one of her the dress at the bottom of the article, not the one at the top.
geronimo – when I woke up that morning, and the morning news was interrupted with the news that he had chosen Palin to be his running mate, I was painfully disappointed in John McCain. There wasn’t a doubt in my mind that she was chosen hastily and for no other reason than assuming that the women of this country were gullible and without intellect enough to vote for McCain/Palin for no other reason than she is a woman, too. When you listen to McCain talk about Palin, it’s clear he really has no idea who she is. All day that day the word “PLOY, PLOY, PLOY” kept echoing in my head.
I find it offensive, quite frankly, and it embarrasses the hell out of me to read women say they were going to vote for Clinton, but now, because he picked a WOMAN, they’re going to vote for McCain. If your vote ever had anything to do with issues and political beliefs and not gender, you would NEVER consider a vote for McCain after supporting Hillary! *ahem Babyrazzi web mistress!*
Someone asked where Sarah Palin’s oldest son is in these pictures.
If I’m not mistaken, he’s in the military and about to be deployed to Iraq. I’m not sure how long he’s been in the service, but it explains why he’s not in the photos.
I guess the fact that her kid’s about to go to war is credible, but the rest of the stuff I’ve read about this chick blows. 🙁
You know, the more I think about this, even if that child is hers, I cannot get over how reckless she was with his life according to that timeline of travelling from Texas to Alaska! I just cannot see how any mother who cared about her children could do that. I mean, seriously, her water breaks and she goes into labor and she gives a speech, hangs out, flies 8 hours back to Alaska, then takes her time heading to an out of the way hospital, for a baby that is supposedly coming a MONTH early????
This coupled with the rather obvious abuse of power allegations regarding her sister’s ex husband’s employment pretty much show what kind of person Sarah Palin is.
Seriously, diva. I don’t know which is worse, his arrogance or his stupidity? Or, even more worrying, the acceptance and acknowledgement of his arrogance and stupidity by a large proportion of voters who STILL, despite this, regard him as presidential material? 😯
She never looked pregnant?

“As much as I am pro-choice, I do feel bad for her children who have to deal with this lie their whole lives. At least the baby has Down’s syndrome, so he won’t have to deal with it his whole life. Small blessing in this case.”
At least the baby has down syndrome? I am literally speechless that someone can have such hate and vitriol for a person that they could make a statement like that. A hatred born of political affiliation at that. And what the holy hell does being pro-choice have to do with that anyways?
The photo of her ‘pregnant’ daughter is from 2006 like Julie said – which would make it the longest gestation period for a human child in history. CB – if you ask someone for a link, it might help if they can actually post it. I’ve tried twice and it was sent straight to the proverbial ‘spam’ folder.
This is the caption under the photo: “Sarah Palin at home with her family in Wasilla, Alaska in 2006. From left is Piper, 5, husband Todd, Willow, 12, and at right is Bristol, 16. Not pictured is Palin’s son Track, 17. Trig Palin was born in 2008.”
It’s from the Anchorage Daily News. These links, as well as links to photos showing a clearly pregnant Gov. Palin are available in the first thread over at Deceiver.com if you’re interested.
Thanks Scott I will check that out and update the post. Sorry about the links getting eaten, I’ll retrieve that.
Don’t worry about it. If there’s one thing that I can understand auto-blocking, it’s links.
It’s not like I wholeheartedly support her being chosen, I just think that the Obama campaign is really picking it’s battles poorly. First, Obama comes out swinging, questioning her experience – “do you want this woman just ONE step away from the Presidency?”
Well, when you’re a first term Senator who’s biggest qualification for the Presidency seems to be giving a REALLY good speech a few years ago – experience might not be what you want to focus on.
Now – all these people who think they’re helping his case by spreading this rumor around like wildfire might just be in for a rude awakening. If they’re wrong, which it appears they are, then you just attacked the mother of a little baby with a mental disability, and called her young daughter fat in the process.
That kind of thing tends to make the accuser look worse than the accused.
… Track?… 😯
That girl does not look pregnant to me – I had a similar shape at that age, and I see plenty of teens with a bit of a belly wearing too-tight clothing. They can’t ALL be pregnant surely?
The flight part is the one bit that gives me pause for thought – but is leaking amniotic fluid the same as the waters breaking?
As for where she had the baby – other explainations is that she went where her family gyno etc. was located. Or alternatively, is there a problem with overcrowding/staff shortage in the Anchorage hospital – this article seemingly from last year suggests that there is. So she went where she knew she would be seen?
http://www.catspawstudios.net/overcrowding.doc
I;m not saying that there is overcrowding or anything else – I’m just pointing out that there could be rational explainations
Ok, I’m now officially confused. The story’s just too odd to be mere political mischief-making.
There have to be other valid contributing factors here for this story to be getting this amount of attention….
Guess you guys should have done a little more research before you posted it.
Geronimo – the real answer is much simpler than that. People knew nothing about her, ran off to do research, dredged up an old (and already debunked) story that no one outside of Alaska had heard of before, and ran off at the mouth before doing 10 minutes of actual research.
The argument about Edwards for weeks before he finally admitted what he did was, everyone was it ‘couldn’t possibly be true’ because the media was ignoring it. Apparently now we see the inverse of this effect, where ‘it must be true because some leftist bloggers ran with it before doing their research.’
Can we say Dan Rather moment?
Scott, I take your point, it’s very easy to present info in such a way that someone’s actions – in this case, definitely odd but still possibly entirely innocent – can be tailored to look extremely suspect.
But it just seems such an unlikely thing to drag up when Palin’s suitability as McCain’s VP was already under very sceptical scrutiny from the get-go for entirely bona fide reasons: her credentials to do the job; the fact that McCain seems to have had only a passing acquaintance with her; and that she was chosen for very strategic and frankly wholly transparent reasons.
Let’s face it, a LOT of stories are printed on this and other gossip blogs that aren’t completely or even remotely true. I know I’m guilty at times of believing them without taking the time to actually research or question their validity. People just find this story more disturbing because it’s attacking a potential Vice-President and her family. I feel really sorry for her daughter.
“she was chosen for very strategic and frankly wholly transparent reasons” Not a fan of McCain’s political position at all, but you could apply this sentence to almost every running mate ever chosen. And both Obama and Palin should be concentrating on different issues than “credibility to do the job” while campaigning for it.
As for the original story, this stinks, and I feel sorry for the girl if she just happens to have a little bit more around her belly (and who doesn’t from time to time).
I like her, and as a still-undecided voter, her selection makes me much more likely to vote for McCain.
I think it’s pretty funny that Democrats are complaining about her slender two years’ experience as governor, when their own candidate has only two years’ experience in the Senate. Neither one has any foreign policy experience. But Obama’s running for President, not Vice-President.
Obama, McCain, and Palin all have very engaging personalities and life stories. There’s still plenty of time to examine all the candidates’ positions on the issues which – call me crazy – I actually plan to do.
Even if there are parts of this story that are inconsistent, somethings really have me scratching my head. Like someone pointed out, the daughter holds the child like she is the mother and Sarah holds him like she is the grand mother. When you google Trig Palin, his complexion looks a bit darkker than his parents.
Most imprtantly, why haven’t we had a strong denial at this stage? This story has been around for more than 24 hours. It is potentially damaging. You would thing the republicans would be moving quickly to quash it.
I immediately looked for the source of this article, and surprise, surprise, it’s the Daily KOS 😕
Here’s another slant:
“Members of the lefty blogosphere haven’t stopped perpetuating the rumor Sarah Palin “faked” her last pregnancy and are now humiliating her daughter Bristol on the blatantly incorrect suspicion she is the real mother of baby Trig.
“Sarah Palin is NOT the Mother” is the title of this DailyKos blog that accuses Bristol, a completely fit-looking adolescent teen, of having a “baby bump” in a photo they allege was taken March 9th of this year.
“Sarah, I’m calling you a liar” wrote blogger ArcXIX. “And not even a good one. Trig Paxson Van Palin is not your son. He is your grandson. The sooner you come forward with this revelation to the public, the better. ” Photos of Bristol with detailed commentary about her abdomen are contained in the post.
Not only is the DailyKos disgustingly inspecting Bristol’s midriff with all the fervor of LA paparazzi examining J-Lo’s or Jennifer Aniston’s washboard stomachs for evidence of a “bump,” the DailyKos is wrong on when the photo was taken. It was taken, and published, by the Anchorage Daily News in 2006. Baby Trig, a child with Down’s Syndrome, was born on April 18, 2008. That’s a long time for a teen girl to be carrying a “bump” which looks nothing more than the curve of a tight sweater.
Shortly after Palin was announced as McCain’s VP, bloggers at the Kos started ginning up the rumor Palin faked her pregnancy, allegedly to cover for an illegitimate grandchild, because she looked so fit and trim in photos taken a few months before giving birth.
This is only the latest in outrageous attacks against Palin as a mother. Fox News anchor Alan Colmes, of Hannity & Colmes, titled a recent post on his blog Liberaland “Did Palin Take Proper PreNatal Care?” In it, he wondered if she somehow was at fault for having a disabled child. Colmes took down the post after being attacked by the blog Wizbang and later reposted a screenshot of the blog to prove he “wasn’t running away from what I posted.”
Update: “I originally mentioned this Kos rumor in a blog post about CNN’s John Roberts’s insinuation Palin would not give adequate care and attention to Trig if she became VP.”
From Townhall.com
And yes, you can leak amniotic fluid. I am disgusted by this attack.
edit*Thanks CB
Agree with Scott F & Enonymous.
Who’s kissing George Bush’s ass?
Scott F, Very well said. Once again I agree with all of your posts. When everyone was yelling “pregnancy”, all I could see in Bristol was that she is just a slightly chubby teenager.
It just shows how Obama’s supporters will come up with all kinds of nonsense as a desperate adept to try and win the election. Also, Obama is the last person to criticize Palin’s political experience, he should take a look at his limited resume first. 🙄
Whatever, Hillary should have been running for president in the first place NOT Obama.
McCain divorced his wife while she was recovering from a car wreck that nearly killed her and he married Miss Moneybags soon after. As much vitriol that gets heaped on actors for the same behavior I’m stunned by the number of people here who still willingly kiss George Bush Jr. Jr’s butt and call it strawberry ice cream.
Daisy it was in moderation due to keywords, sorry about that.
“…Fox News anchor Alan Colmes, of Hannity & Colmes, titled a recent post on his blog Liberaland “Did Palin Take Proper PreNatal Care?” In it, he wondered if she somehow was at fault for having a disabled child.”
Daisy, politics aside, this is about as low as it’s possible to go.
Lola – the “grandmother” pose with the baby is because it’s an official photoshoot for a magazine. No photographer worth their salt would say “now hold the baby so that his back is to us and we can’t see his face”.
If she was silly enough to go along with that – we’d have a dozen irrationalites slavering that she was ashamed of the baby and is trying to hide that he has Downs 🙄
The young girl is holding him like that because it’s a candid. And babies colouring does change. I had red hair when I was a baby and a todder, black hair when I was 5 and brown hair since I was 7.
We’re over-analysing 1 photo out of a reel of probably at least 10.
so all this is resting on is that top photograph that supposedly has bristol looking pregnant? isnt it more telling that there were no pictures of bristol during 2008/late 2007 when she might have been pregnant?
im pretty skeptical of the story about palin delivering a speech and flying home to alaska from texas, which I have done many times as I was born and raised in alaska and my family still lives there and it is not a short hop. it would have taken at least 9-10 hours depending on how long that layover was in seattle, and wasilla is a decent drive away from anchorage which has much better hospitals, especially the native hospitals, which Palin would be eligable to give birth in because her husband is part native and so are her kids (the native hospital has incredible services, esp. their Obstetrics because of so many high risk pregnancies in the native population of alaska (FAS, Premies, etc) which would have been the safest and best place for her to give birth, and way closer than where she went.
i can see why she wouldnt want to have her daughters pregnancy ruin her image as a clean living ultra christian right winger who preaches abstinence to her family and of course her children woldnt be engaging in premarital sex. this, after all, is the 1940’s where you pull the same kinds of stunts as they did back then.
alaska isnt a real state with real politics or with real politicians. politics in alaska are a complete and utter joke. nothing makes sense in that state as far as elections, the people who get elected, and alaskans are one of the least discerning voting populaces in the whole US. ted stevens just won the primary for example, even while under investigation by the freaking FBI. i hear her approval rating and I laugh, because 80% or more of alaska is made up of conservative idiots with no education (palin included) and they are willing to bend over and take it from anyone as long as they have the right conservative credentials, such as almost winning a beauty pageant, shooting stuff, and reproducing as much as possible, since this is what happens in the Valley (scary place where wasilla is) the state is run by corporations, so pailin is basically doing the equivalent of managing a burger king. before palin lovers jump down my throat on this one, I encourage them to take a look at the criticisms of pailin over the last few months in any of the alaskan papers, esp. those after she was selected as VP. she wasnt qualified to be elected governor in the first place, but alaskans generally vote so incredibly stupidly that this is par for the course. I just would have expected old man mccain to have looked into alaskan politics a little deeper before choosing her, but whatever, the man is old and cantankerous and senile, as he has just proven.
@bros, thank you for that. Not being in the US, this kind of background info is very interesting for those of us following the US election from Europe. Regardless of whether there’s any truth in ‘babygate’, there’s more than enough to be going on with in terms of Palin’s lack of suitability for high office.
sorry it was so long geronimo, but nobody knows about her because she is all the way up in alaska, has been out of the country once, to go look through a rifle scope and walk around with the troops and thats her foreign policy experience. so I realize obama has been to iraq once, (and many other countries) but he has so much more education, foreign policy experience from being in the senate (I dont care if it was for one day-its STILL MORE than palin’s) is so reasonable, clear, and cogent, has the best advisors on foreign policy on his campaign team, shows clarity of judgement on Iran and especially pakistan and afghanistan, and not to mention I have a best friend I went to college with who is now finishing his dissertation in university of chicago’s anthropology doctoral program and he was telling me about Obama’s law classes that he taught where he had to write memos on the rationale for the questions on his exams and how he had graded them. one memo was 17 single spaced pages, with extrodinarily well-thought out explanations, clear, concise etc. and my friend says, clearly this man is smarter than I am. he writes better than me and makes more sense than me (big praise coming from an academic) and that is exactly who I want for president-someone with the temperament and clarity of mind to examine all the angles and make a strong argument for something. I want someone smarter than me for president too.
given that mccain has a health history about 50 miles long and is nearing the end of life expectancies for males in this country and we already had an ailing president in office before (reagan with alzheimers) I dont want this woman to be my next president because she is uneducated, has little world experience, and before 2006 was busy popping babies out and eating moose stew in one of the most isolated backwards states in the US. not to mention her extreme rightwing views and wanting to further debilitate the american educational system by teaching creationism in public schools, overturn roe v. wade and impose her christian conservative world views on everyone. you think bush jr. was bad? think about a president palin, whose education and pedigree PALES in comparison to Bush’s. i shudder even to think of it.
I thought that Palin’s approval ratings in Alaska were high. In the week before the Democratic convention, her ratings were 79 percent, the highest of any Alaska politician. Certainly more than Congress’, see below;
“Congress’ job approval rating has dropped five percentage points over the past month, from 19% in June to 14% in July, making the current reading the lowest congressional job approval rating in the 34-year Gallup Poll history of asking the question. The previous low was 18%, last reached in May.” Gallup
And these politicians have the ‘experience’ you’re speaking of.
Geronimo, if you want to know more about her, don’t only trust what us posters think, check it out for yourself, you have the world at your fingertips on the Internet.
Agree with Geronimo, Bros, they made the points I was going to make…
In an attempt to bring a little lightness, may I just say…
ZOMG PILLOW BABY and ZOMG CHINATOWN
Frankly, I’m more worried about the ethics investigations, the hard pro-life stance and the creationism. And I think praising Palin as The Least Corrupt Alaska Republican… that’s setting the bar pretty low.
If McCain was such a Maverick, why didn’t he pick Lincoln Chaffee? That’s a Republican I would vote for!
Actually – Geronimo’s point is ditto for me. I’ve no clue about Alaskan politics and it’s great to get the update from someone who does. 😀
But I am very wary of the fact that all this hinges on a few photos – two of which were taken 2 years apart, and the source for all of this is what appears to be to be an admitted left-wing blog. At the moment there appears to be a lot of scare-mongering on both sides, and I think it’s wise to do a bit of searching before condemning anybody.
Daisy, I know you didn’t mean to be patronising so I’m not going to get huffy about your little note of advice to me!
My point is, it’s not my election, I have my own government to worry about (lol!) and I’m just not likely to have the time or inclination to go sourcing info on someone I only have an interest in by default. I respect bros’s opinions (here and on other threads) and in this instance they happen to tally with what I’ve already read about this woman and her suitability for office.
I also read widely and all the broadsheets (Guardian, Times & Telegraph) are following this election with just as much vigour (and possibly more objectivity) that the US press and they have done a number of pieces on her where her abilities/integrity are queried.
it was filtering around long before the daily kos got ahold of it mairead. and daisy424 like I said before, as long as a republican in office isnt blatantly screwing alaskans and appears to be doing her job (which is allowing corporations to quetly keep running the state, like BP, which her husband works for) then she is going to have high approval ratings. like kaiser said, the bar is incredibly low. i dont know how much clearer I can make it that the professional standards for politicians is so incredibly low in alaska, that she could be Lenny from Of Mice and Men and still get high approval ratings because the state is about 80% republican. her lustre as a house-cleaning anticorruption broad wore off soon after she got into office. and her little clean and transparent governement platform has been yanked out from under her for this corruption scandal where she hired a police commissioner for the state and fired him 2 months later because he refused to fire her ex-brother in law because he was in a custody dispute with her sister. clean government doesnt apply to her when it is a family member.
I know Geronimo, my comment was not intended to be patronizing at all, it was meant to be helpful.
I am sorry if I offended you.
The point I was making is, opinion is one thing, fact is another.
edit* I can see that I am outnumbered in this thread, my level of frustration is rising, and I don’t wish to offend anyone else. I’m not up for this back and forth banter, later folks.
Absolutely none taken, Daisy! I know you’re a stickler for facts and I really respect that, as I do your opinion.
Mairead, maybe I am over analysing you are right. In cases like this, even a sneeze gets some interpretation. LOL. That said, there are questions on both sides.
On the side of the accusers:
– Motivation and timing of this story, with the republican convention underway.
– The site that is spewing the story is not very credible and every thing seems malicious.
– Why would the republicans choose someone with such a rotten skeleton in their closet. You would think they would do some minimal research in such a country that loves scandal.
Now on the accused’s side.
– Who flies all those miles when their waters are broken?
– How can the child be out of the school at such a convenient time.
-Inconsistent pre natal pictures.
– Who goes backt o work 3 days after having a premature don Syndrome baby? Seriously who?
-In my experience, stories like these never come out of no where. By the time you are 7 months pregnant with your 4th it should not be a shock to your work mates.
I guess there are too many questions all around. She seems like a nice lady. Too bad she ended up in policitics.
i just looked up some election data and alaska has 62% registered republican voters, 40% more than the registered dems and about 10% independent/undecided. so palin’s support is made largely up of her own party and the independents who voted for her because of her clean government promises. she used to have 90% approval ratings in 2007. given enough time, 80% would slip, just like every other politician’s (bush anyone?) alaska was so f’ed up to begin with, she was like a breath of fresh air, but again, the reality starts to set in about how things are done up there…..
Thanks for that invaluable information bros.
I’d like to make it clear that I’m not making any value-judgements on her character or suitability to run. geronimo is far more aware of the current political situation than me. But now my last huge project is almost out of the way I might get a chance to catch up.
My concern is holding her teenage daughter up to international scruitiny with what appears to me to be fairly shaky evidence. I’m not discounting the possibility of it being true at all – but as my first post here shows, it throws up more questions for me than answers.
I think my biggest concern in all of this, IF the baby is Palin’s, is her unbelievable stupidity during the labor timeline. Older pregnant women go through different processes than younger girls do, so she HAD to know the baby had Down’s Syndrome long before it was born. To toss a different perspective around… what was she thinking about the health and welfare of that baby to travel around like that during a high risk pregnancy?
If the child isn’t hers, I would worry about her honesty factor, but dependent upon what values you hold, she may have thought she was doing the right thing (although I don’t agree with it). Which one of us wouldn’t move heaven and earth for our children? Having said that though, I don’t think I’d fake a birth for my daughter – I’d help her, but life is all about choices and sometimes we have to live a long time with the choices we make.
Now obvious stupidity, or deliberately trying to (speculating here) abort a high risk pregnancy makes it a different spin for me.
sounds like Bree’s plot in “Desperate Housewives”?
In case anyone wants to read liberal agit-prop about Palin, ZOMG PILLOW BABY theories, Alaska political/financial/Chinatown-esque scandals, here’s a link (that has other links):
http://wonkette.com/402393/wonkette-official-statement-on-palin-pregnancy-rumors#comments
I’m not entirely convinced by the preggo pics, anyway. Don’t you think if she was gonna lie about it, that’d she have the good sense to wear padding? I mean cmon, such a soap opera move.
If this at all turns out to be real, I have serious doubts as to her integrity and judgement and do not want her anywhere near the White House…even as a tourist. Period.
Mairead, honestly, I’m not in the least bit knowledgeable about this, which is why I, like you, find opinions on here from US voters very interesting and helpful in my own understanding of the issues and the personalities. And there are a handful of US posters on here, coming from polar opposites of the political scale, whose views I find just as interesting and valid as those of a lot of the political journalists I read and respect.
Personally, I find the baby thing a complete distraction since it yet again takes the focus away from where it should be. Although, if true, it really does question this woman’s judgement.
Ran, not to mention the love and attention that 4 month old needs right now, and she is still prbably nursing the baby (maybe) but regardless, this is a special needs baby who needs a mother really badly during this formative time, esp. because down’s babies need extra care because they develop more slowly. a true conservative would probably place the comfort of her child above political expediency and her career, if this baby is such a gift from god, why doesnt she take care of it? i think it will be very difficult to give this baby the love and attention he needs while campaigning around the country. its pretty irresponsible if you ask me. im not impressed by her at all.
Personally, I’m much more concerned about her being investigated for firing her ex-brother-in-law than this story.
Sarah Palin’s got lots of folks scared to death.
She’s got a track record as a change agent who walks the walk instead of just talking the talk.
If Obama really wanted to make changes why make Joe Biden, of all people, your veep? He’s been part of the Washington establishment for 36 years.
News just broke, Bristol is NOW 5 months pregnant. (the Today Show, if you’re wondering the “source”)
She can’t very well have had a baby 4 months ago if she’s 5 months pregnant now.
After the story, and my initial reaction to the thought of Palin covering this up, what bothered me more is how this woman of family and motherhood handled herself when she was in a high risk pregnancy and going into labor. Not to mention that she accepted the nomination when she has a 4 month old special needs child at home. Priorities that I personally don’t agree with, but more importantly on a grander scale, simply do not jive with her alleged politics.
There is so much about this woman and her politics and style that John McCain knew NOTHING about, he just chose her because she’s a woman, and he BELIEVES women are so stupid they’ll vote for him on that alone.
Edit – I did NOT mean that there aren’t very intelligent women who were going to vote for him anyway and that they don’t have valid reasons to do so, before you jump down my throat! I meant the HE believes the women who rabidly supported Hillary Clinton for no other reason than she’s a woman, which he believes most her female supporters are, would then switch to him because he brought Palin in.
bros, that is little unfair of you to say just because she has a baby (even one that has Down’s Syndrome) that she should not bother to work anymore, she does have a husband also and her husband will help to take care of the baby when she is out campaigning and there is nothing wrong with that. That does not mean that she loves or cares about the child/children any less or is any less of a good mother. It is so wrong to dismiss her abilities as a politician like that just because she is a mother. I am pretty sure she herself knows best how to raise her own children, I do not think she needs anyone to tell her. 🙄
I just read on the cnn website that Bristol is in did pregnant and engaged and although, as always I think that 17 years old is way to young to have a baby and get married, this by any means has nothing to do with Palin’s political abilities.
So many other politicians have done so many bad things but no one tends to care for more then 10 minutes, so why is everyone hang up on her all of a sudden.
I am sorely disappointed that you chose to go with this story. It seems pretty irresponsible even for a blog. Have you written things regarding Joe Biden or Obama’s family in any way remotely as personal and invasive, not to the candidate but to her minor daughter?
If so, fine. I do think its more piling on rather than anything else.
The prospect of a President Palin horrifies me.
The woman wants to outlaw abortion even in cases of rape or to save the life of the mother. I hear she’s also against birth control. She has no opinion on matters of foreign policy (give it a few days, though…I’m sure McSame’s handlers will feed some opinions to her)…
If you don’t believe abortiopn should be an option…don’t have one! But DON’T tell me and my sisters how to live our lives.
These are very serious times, and on the one hand we have the incredibly intelligent Obama, who shows an exemplary ability to lead and inspire people to work toward a common purpose, as well as to listen and learn.
Then we have McCain, who apparently sold his soul to Karl Rove and will do absolutely ANYTHING to get elected. Picking Palin to make the hard-core conservatives happy, but thinking he’ll score Hillary’s supporters as well because hey, she a woman – that’s what you wanted, right?…it’s utterly irresponsible to put this woman a heartbeat away from the throne (this isn’t a democracy anymore) and to suggest Hillary’s supporters are so shallow as to feel otherwise is beyond insulting.
If McCain wanted to pander to Hillary’s supporters, he should’ve chosen a competent female VP…Olympia Snowe, Kay Bailey Hutchison, maybe Condi Rice.
i don’t care about her personal family birthing choices, i care about whether this woman is qualified to run the country and from what i’ve seen she’s not. she should have more experience than barely 2 years as governor of alaska. mc cain only picked her because she’s an attractive woman to try and lure hillary supporters to his side.
Geronimo: I agree – I think this whole pregancy issue is a smoke screen. Given that we don’t have conclusive evidence (ie a DNA test), we have to assume that she made some risky decisions in regards to the health of her baby, by delaying seeking medical care in Washington, flying 8-10 hrs across the country, and driving another ~ 45 min before being seen for the first time by a healthcare provider. So maternity issues (gossip) aside, that shows pretty poor judgement from someone who is a heartbeat away from the presidential seat.
I think the real issue here is OIL. Alaska’s got it, Bush Jr. was after it and now the Gulf refineries are at risk. What could be a better campaign promise than to keep the gas comin’ at unrealistically low prices?
I hope folks spend a bit of time thinking about who is the best candidate for the job.
I did about five minutes of my own research online and gathered this much from the Anchorage Daily News:
1. Baldwin-Johnson said she had to induce labor, and the baby didn’t come until 6:30 a.m. Friday.
Was the doctor in on the lie as well?
2. She’s breast feeding and plans to bring Trig to work with her, just as she did with Piper.
How does she plan to breast feed a baby she did not give birth to?
The article: http://www.adn.com/front/story/397284.html
The thing that struck me as a bit odd in this article and another I found was her reaction when she was pregnant to learning that the baby had Down’s Syndrome. In this article she says it was confusing and in another she says, “I’ve never had problems with my other pregnancies, so I was shocked” said Palin, a mother of four other children.. I’m 29 and not a mother but know that the statistics for a pregnant woman of her age having a child with Down’s Syndome are very high. I would think after being advised by her doctor and doing some research of her own that she would have been prepared to hear that. Although shocked may just mean facing the reality of it. I just thought that was a bit odd.
@ sam
Sarah is a rabid Christian Evangelical. Those beiefs are going to provide the lense under which her own life is examined. As it turns out her 17 year old daughter is currently 5 months pregnant. If she wanted to keep that matter private – SHE SHOULD HAVE DECLINED McMAINS OFFER TO BE HIS VP.
UPDATE:
Her daughter is pregnant at this time.
ST. PAUL (Reuters) – The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.
To LaLa;
Where has anyone said she was trying to keep her daughter’s pregnancy secret?
The article goes on to say that Governor Palin had told McCain this information. Obviously, she would know that it would soon be well known anyway because how can you keep the pregnancy secret.
Well at least for some it is obvious.
They just announced on the news that her daughter is pregnant and will keep the baby. I do not believe that she will ever deliver, this supposed baby.
This is a smoke screen to throw us off the scent.
I don’t want to comment on the baby situation because there is simply too much irresponsible conjecture and not nearly enough concrete evidence and this just reeks of a desperate attack on not only this woman’s character, but on her teenage daughter as well. I’m an Obama/Biden supporter, but even I am disgusted by the insensitive and downright nasty way that Palin is being portrayed.
I do feel for her kids because of the horrible names bestowed upon them. Track? Bristol? Trig? What, were Trail, Waterbury, and Calculus already taken?
Suddenly Zuma Nesta is sounding pretty good to me. 😉
oh well, i guess thats a great way to have to put the initial rumors to rest. her freaking 17 year old kid os pregnant. i guess sarah’s committment to abstinence only education doesnt quite work now does it? this is just disgusting. maybe while she was running the great state of alaska she should have paid a little more attention to her family. i love when conservative christians pass all kinds of judgements about other people’s lives and the way they choose to live their lives and meanwhile, they are no paragons of virtue themselves. now we have Lynne spears running for VP. what fricking wasilla trailer trash.
mccain had to have known this when he picked palin, so what does this say about his judgement in making executive decisions?
This should not even be news, children should be ‘off limits’ in a political race.
Bros, try this link;
http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSN2944356420080901?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&rpc=22&sp=true
Bros, on the contrary, I’d say he hadn’t a clue since a couple of weeks back, by all accounts, he’d have had difficulty picking Palin out of a line-up. Which to me is 100 times worse. Just confirms that he did the equivalent of rounding up all the likely potential female running mates and picked one of their names out of a hat.
No one’s children are off limits in political race. It has never mattered what party a person is affiliated with.
Unfortunately, when you hold yourself up as the paragon of motherhood and family values, you put yourself in the situation to have your children be a reflection of you, as a person AND a political figure.
I think Bros is onto something. The pieces are starting to fall together. Maybe Palin’s not so family oriented after all. (Who returns to work 3 days after giving birth??)
Check out the video her daughter, Bristol, made of her husband speaking his mind on Palin becoming mayor at EvilBeetgossip.film.com
@ daisy 424
It is not her fault. But it is NEWS. As a Christian Evangilical she is using her position to push Christian Evangilical standards onto the people she governs: Creationism, pro life (no exceptions), abstience until marriage, pro death penalty, ect. So when her own daughter fails to live up to the standards it is news. Moreover, if she did not want this to be news she could have declined McCains offer to be on the ticket. Accepting that offer meant accepting the fact that her 17 year old unmarried daughters pregnancy was going to be news.
Can this get worse????
Where is all their judgement? Now I agree she has some really poor judgement. How can you rebutt rumours by using your daughter like that? They have to realise that no one is going to blindly believe that their daughter who missed school the last how many months is now pregnant and they are cool about it. She is ultra conservative with some really dated birth control methods. How then can she still advocate for them when they failed where her daughter is concerned? Is saying that she is going to marry the father of the baby at 17 supposed to make us applaud and forget it all?
My head is spinning over all this. What next? That her daughter conveniently lost the baby like she is conveniently 5 months pregnant. Notice that it is five months. such a convinient number since Trig is 4 months. Any less and the liberals would have said she can still be the mother of Trig. Any more and her stomach should be showing, enough for the public to have noticed without being told.
Any one think this only makes matters worse?Count me out of this.
Anyone notice in the 2006 photo the daughter is kind of off to the side and not apart of the family photo?? I wonder if she was always the ‘outcast’ so to speak.
It must be exhausting to hate somebody so much.
lmao… that’s what I think when I read Jolie/Pitt/Aniston threads.
Sorry… couldn’t help myself. 😳
Oh good grief! First of all, a little clarification: amniotic fluid leaking does not equal water breaking. It means that the baby is outgrowing his environment. I leaked a little fluid for the last 5 weeks of my pregnancy too. My doctor assured me that it was not a big deal as long as the amount wasn’t excessive. I went on to deliver a healthy, normal baby two weeks later (who, by the way, was 3 1/2 weeks early and just fine). My other two children were also this early, and there was no amniotic fluid leaking with them, so don’t bother trying to find a tie there.
In addition, although doctors recommend getting to the hospital after your water breaks, it still doesn’t necessarily mean that labor is imminent. If you’re in labor, and the baby’s coming, it’s going to come regardless of whether or not you decide to fly back to Alaska. To suggest that this put her baby in danger is ridiculous — she talked with her doctor and I’m sure they had a plan.
I can’t help but wonder what you’ve omitted from the above “excerpt” considering there’s a sentence in there “Her sixteen year old daughter was” that doesn’t make a bit of sense. Who’s trying to hide something?
The comment about the baby being lucky to have Down’s is disgusting. You should be ashamed.
And now there’s some conspiracy to throw us off her scent by announcing that her daughter is pregnant? Come on.
Let’s talk about the misinformation Obama has put out there about his record.
Let’s talk about how a large part of Hilary’s campaign was based on the fact that she was making history. Why? Because she’s a woman. You don’t think she knew that was going to net her a certain set of votes? If not, then why continuously bring it up?
I’m noticing there aren’t any unfavorable posts about Obama. Interesting. And the one post that could possibly have netted negative feedback was closed to comments almost immediately after it was posted back in June.
As for her daughter’s pregnancy somehow reflecting on Sarah Palin’s judgement — let me know when you raise five children who are perfect in every way. I’d hate for one of your children to disappoint you and for you to be blamed for his/her fall. It would be unfair and mean-spirited, and I’d hate for you, as a parent who tried to do everything right by your children, to have to suffer that way. How absolutely devastating to suffer the ire of your neighbors (not to mention the gossip) while feeling your child’s suffering too.
I guess it would be better for her to be involved in a sex scandal. For that, we’d turn our heads and look the other way and buy into the fact that there might actually be another definition of “is.”
This just goes to show that even politicians have problems just like everyone else. How many good parents have had children come home to tell them they were pregnant?
Everyone makes mistakes — no one is perfect. At least her daughter plans on taking responsibility for hers.
so sarah the paragon of virtue, mother earth herself, has the gall to ask everyone to respect their privacy? if she wanted her family’s privacy respected, if she wanted to protect her daughter for press scrutiny and having this splashed all over the news (really, no one is supposed to cover it? it MATTERS) then she should have declined the offer to be Mccains running mate, in order to protect her family from the spotlight. instead, she dragged her whole family into it and this is what she gets.
and as far as her having the nerve to ask for us to repect HER privacy while at the same time trying to legislate denying other women to have privacy when it comes to dominion over their own uterus and making their very private pregnancy decisions? I say get the F outta here. you reap what you sow. yah, it is exhausting hating someone so much, but this zenith of hypocricy is almost too much to handle. palin should go back to speaking in toungs at her assembly of god church and stay out of national politics with this absurd issue going on. her choices as a mother are astounding.
The daughter is very pointedly described as five months pregnant in today’s press release, with baby Trig being four and half months old. Co-incidence? A desperate attempt to make the rumours go away, by demonstrating Bristol couldnt possibly have produced Trig as she was already knocked up? The plot definitely thickens………
I’m confused by the comments made by people that claim as a mother she made bad choices by accepting the nomination, going back to work early, etc? Are you saying she can’t have a career? That she should give everything up for her kids? That mothers/women can’t have both?
As a feminist, I’m offended when people say women should not make certain career choices because of their families. It seems she has a good support system — so why not become the VP running mate??
The odds of giving birth to a downs syndrome baby at 44 are 1 in 14. Sarah Palin may have been surprised if she had no pre-natal tests, given her beliefs this is very possible.
True, Bristol could not have given birth 4 months ago if she’s 5 months pregnant, but who’s to say she’s really 5 months pregnant?
Does anyone else find it disturbing that this woman’s 19 year old son enlisted and his 17 year old sister is pregnant and getting married ? I guess I’ve been living in the city too long but shouldn’t these kids be thinking college? The son would be a much more effective soldier after military academy.
This woman gives me the creeps but then so does John McGoo. I’m rather surprised he didn’t choose Condi Rice as his VP.I think whoever said it’s all about the oil may have something.
Breederina, I thought of that too. Condeleeza Rice should have stepped down a year ago and come back as VP. That way they would have targetted both the black and female vote. To make it even more authentic, they would have said she is at cross roads with the Bush admin, especially on issues where the public rates the Bush admin really low. No one can doubt her foreign affairs credentials and by god she has no pregnant daughters. 🙄
breederina: palin did have pre-natal testing and was surprised to find the results showed the baby had downs syndrome, which I think is strange considering the statistics you stated of the high incidence in women her age. she must have been aware of the statistics too right? so her shock strikes me as strange.
I’m all for women having the right to choose to go back to work after having a baby, but campaigning to be the next VP of the United States requires far more responsibility than a typical 40 hour a week job. Normally, I could care less what any one random woman chooses to do with herself (more power to her), but if Palin is going to claim to be a shining example of family values, she has to do better than this. I’m sure Bristol probably needs her mom at a time like this, too. Unfortunately, it seems like her family’s needs take a backseat to her ambition.
Obama should’ve picked Hillary for Vice-president, he would’ve had a better chance of winning. I bet Bristol is not pregnant and it’s all a scam to hide the fact that she already had a baby. You’ll hear soon that she either loses the baby in an accident or some other cockamamie story! Politics is just like a soap opera!
I find it funny how people are so offended my some media outlets running with is baby-switch story, but the same people who are offended DID not have problem at all that when the right media tried to make this ELECTION about Reverend Wright and Michelle’s patriotism to describing Michelle as the stereotypical “angry black woman” to questioning Obama on EVERYTHING from his religion to his citizenship and patriotism in order to paint him as a radical muslim.Just a bunch of dirty little Republican tricks and fear tactics used to disguise very thinly veiled racism.
I could care less about Palin and her pregnant teenage daughter, just as long as she does DARE use her position to talk about teaching abstinence in the classroom because apparently it did not work in her own family .
bros, I totally agree with you about Palin being against apportion, that is one thing that I completely dislike about her. Having to apport a child is hard and painful enough (and yes, it is done for good reason) without these people making them feel even guiltier, there are so many unwanted children in the world that have such a hard life because some people really do not end up being good parents and their children suffer as result or they end up put up for adoption and despite what people think, there are only a few percentage of children that actually end up in good homes, many others are not as lucky. My opinion is that it is much better to get an apportion then to hand your child (if that is the only other option) to someone who you do not know or know for sure if the child is going to be treated with the love and respect that it deserves, it is like giving it up with a blind site. Whether you agree with it or not, that should be a personal choice and no one should dare to influence that, no politicians, people in general or ‘god’.
However, as I said to you earlier, I do not agree with your comment that because she is a mother she, she could not possible work. She most certainly can, she and many other women can successfully balance parenting and a stressful job, that is what makes them so much stronger as a person.
At a press avail in Monroe, Mich., Barack Obama on Palin: “Back off these kinds of stories.”
“I have said before and I will repeat again: People’s families are off limits,” Obama said. “And people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. So I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18 and how a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be a topic of our politics.”
On charges that his campaign has stoked the story via liberal blogs:
“I am offended by that statement. There is no evidence at all that any of this involved us,” he said. “Our people were not involved in any way in this, and they will not be. And if I thought there was somebody in my campaign who was involved in something like that, they would be fired.”
Hiding her own pregnancy for 7 months was a lie to the American public. Hiding her daughter’s pregnancy until she was directly confronted was a lie. Hiding her daughter’s pregnancy by having her hold Trig with a blanket during the convention, was a lie. Lies, lies, lies.
This woman is not only a liar, but she has serious judgement issues. McCain is very old and she stands somewhat of a chance of becoming president. If she can’t take care of her own family, how in the world can she handle managing our country?
true obama has less foreign policty experience than mccain, but obama is much more widely supported by the world outside of the U.S. than mccain is. international relations will simply be easier for us if we elect obama because of how the outside world will respond to him. what are your feelings on this, international celebitchy posters?
lol @ mstriste. was she supposed to issue a press release to annouce these pregnancies? many women wait several months to annouce pregnancy because of the potential of having a miscarriage in the first trimester. i would think at her age the potential for miscarriage would be stronger and maybe that factored into waiting to annouce her pregnancy. whatever her reasons it’s personal. you can’t possibly know that she was hiding these pregnancies instead of waiting to annouce them when things were medically sound and family and friends were given the news.
enonymouse, I have zero problem with working women and the tightrope all of us walk while trying to have a career and have a family at the same time. what i do disapprove of is talking out of two sides of your mouth, trying to legislate family values and morality that conform with your own conservative christian views, and expecting everyone to shut up and go along with it. this is the problem with republican sanctimony: they can dish it out but cant take it and they contiually throw rocks while living in a glass house. if Palin weren’t so virulently anti-woman in her political policies, then I wouldnt open my mouth on this. its that level of hypocricy that I cant stand.
I wonder how Palin could even continue working under the fatigue and stress that being pregnant causes. Seems like she was able to do an awful lot, and then 3 days after supposedly having the baby she goes back to work. Well, obviously she’s a workaholic but still…if you’re running around that much that can’t be good for the baby much less yourself. Most of the people that worked with her didn’t even know she was pregnant because she only really looks sort of pregnant in like two pictures. The rest she looks fairly thin. It’s quite odd…
I cannot even fathom some of the cruelty in this series of comments. Seriously. Some of you need to step back and reevaluate yourselves. Several of the comments here were so disgusting I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
God forbid any of the harpies who wrote some of the vicious and hateful bile I just read actually give birth to any children…much less any children with disabilities.
Shame. on. you.
And all of it was because you belong to the “more sensitive” side of the aisle, right? You guys on the left are more feeling and more considerate and more tolerant, yeah?
Hey “girl” (commentor above), your post sounds an awful lot like a PR or lawyerly defense response effort from the McCain or possibly Pallin staff. And you almost had me until you brought up the check out Obama’s misinformation record paragraph. I agree with the above commentor Paris, regarding VP candidate Pallin’s lack of exhaustion and ability to jump back in the saddle at the age of 44 after having just given birth. I actually think she is proving to be perfect in terms of what we have come to expect out of our politicians.
Enough already. Bristol is not Trig’s real mother. The photos in the past are of a girl with a little baby fat tummy. She’s a teen, that does happen sometimes. (rolls eyes).
I think Sarah Palin is indeed the mother of Trig. I also think that if she insisted on giving her speech on April 17th after her waters broke, and then insisted on going on that 8 hours flight back to Alaska, it was because she knew that doing so could easily kill the fetus, and hoped that it would – a form of passive abortion which would save her face with regard to her position about abortion. It didn’t work, and now she is saddled with a Down’s Syndrome child.
Has anyone really confronted Palin on what is true? Can’t you get the medical records from the doctor or hospital where she supposely delivered? Why wouldn’t she just say she was pregnant within 3 months? If she is so pro life it seems she would have been happy to deliver that type of news. When she was flying on American why didn’t she tell the stewardess on board. I am sure she had a companion with her who could have informed them. Its really ridiculous to believe all this. Plus how long did she have to wait for a plane before boarding so it may have been longer and no one told the airline. It show irresponsibility on her part. Not worried about her unborn child so to speak. Give me a break! Also why do we expect our nation’s leaders to be better then us? They are not and will lie at the drop of a hat. She got caught unexpectantly in Texas giving a speach when her daughter went into labor. See how politicians really think the american people are really dumb. They don’t care about us. They are so rich and out of touch with real people. This woman pro oil industry too. Look at Bush, Cheney, Rice who have all served on oil boards or whatever. She wants to pull drilling in Alaska a prime wildlife state. Can you really see her as president if something happened to McCain who will be 72 and has had cancer many times.
I definitely believe the baby belongs to the daughter, Bristol. From what we’ve been told, Sarah is a die-hard anti-abortionist, pro-life all the way, and even refuses to allow abortion for someone who is a victim of rape or incest or to save the life of the mother. In view of that, and because she was looking forward (supposedly) to the birth of a special needs child who might need emergency care upon birth …. I can’t believe, that if she were really pregnant, she would have gone to Texas to begin with, to give a speech. And on top of it, to do it when she knew she started labor. And to avoid going to a Texas hospital or doctor to be examined and make sure it was safe to get on that flight? Nothing makes sense. A die-hard pro-lifer WOULD NOT TAKE THESE RISKS. Anybody who believes it is idiotic. She faked the pregnancy and the child is her daughters … and I don’t care what pictures show, or how far along she NOW claims she is … she can lie about all that as well. Once you start with a lie, you get caught in quite a web of deceit. Just take a look at the Bush administration.
The baby is Bristol’s and now she’s pregnant again. I’ll bet my bottom dollar her mother is forcing her into the marriage, if not forcing her to carry these babies because of her OWN agenda and beliefs, and to further her own career. The girl does NOT look happy.
That photo with Bristol in light green cannot possibly be dated 2006. Compare it this one dated 2007 //gov.state.ak.us/bio.php, particularly the looks of youngest Palin’s daughter Piper, she is certainly more mature on the “2006” picture than on the 2007 picture.
The doubtful need to use their powers of reasoning:
1. pro-life mother
2. alleged 5th pregnancy
3. is mother to teenage daughter who was pulled out of school for 5 to 8 months with “mono” – even the worst cases don’t last beyond 3 months
4. Sarah has no signs of pregnancy that are visible to any co-workers
5. Sarah can hike thru Alaska in high heeled shoes during her 8th month, spryly, with no “waddle”, no hesitation and not being out of breath. (there was a video online of an interview with her while walking/hiking)
6. Flies in an airplane 8 hrs. to Texas with a high-risk pregnancy and imminent birth with her water leaking
7. Refuses to allow any other doctor in any other state or facility to examine her or be checked for stage of labor, etc. Her own doctor, who delivered “her” baby, is no longer on staff.
8. She notified no one in the Governors mansion of her pregnancy until the last month. Heads up here, people. If you work in government where you may have to leave for Doctor’s appts., take time off for delivery, maternity leave, etc. … I would think you HAVE to inform the powers-that-be in order to have someone carry on your duties in your absence. Not only that – government employees have GENEROUS benefits, maternity leave, sick leave, hospitalization, etc. For her to return to work in 3 days is risky to her own health (doctors suggest 6 weeks off, no steps, because of bleeding ) and also, her special needs child who needs his mother (downs syndrome kids usually have other medical risks and problems).
9. The whole story, including pulling the daughter out of school for almost the entire school year, and Palin’s actions and story are all very suspicious.
10. The new Bristol pregnancy story was released to the press to avoid suspicion surrounding the birth of the baby in April. All we have is Sarah Palin’s word as to how far along in pregnancy her daughter is. Bristol could have delivered the boy in April and quickly become pregnant again. It’s easy for her mother to say she’s 5 months … and then come December, they’ll be saying the baby is late. There is way more to this story, and until someone does the DNA tests and we get the doctor to produce the birth certificate and sworn statements … it is all just a huge fabricated story. This would not be too surprising, considering the scandal Palin is already involved in regarding the firing of her ex brother-in-law, etc. This family already is shown to be one that deals in power, intimidation and manipulation and secrecy. I, for one, would like proof.
that is not Sarah Palin’s baby just think who has that baby all the time not the 17 year old but the one under her not the father or any of the other kids just the the girl the one next to the her 17yr old think about it they can’t fine the birth record come on so if she is VP what is that saying to the teens girls and boys
Palin can’t even control her own pregnant teenager daughter. Who really wants her for VP. I guess no one. “Stupid Bitchy” go home and take care of your irresponsible kids and alcoholism husband!!!!!! 😆
