50 Cent seems to need a primer in Famous Celebrities 101. Wouldn’t it be great if that were a real class? 50 and rapper Jay-Z have always had a bit of a rivalry going on. Enough that I’m pretty sure Fiddy knows Jay-Z’s basic history. But according to a recent interview he gave, Jay-Z wasn’t even famous (at least by 50’s standards) outside of the U.S. until after he married Beyonce Knowles.
If we didn’t know better, we would say 50 Cent must have been living under a rock for the last 10 years (well, either that or he’s letting his ego cloud his judgment just a little tiny bit). The Get Rich or Die Trying star has just made the outrageous claim that rap rival Jay Z wasn’t all that famous until he married Beyoncé Knowles!
That right, he thinks that Jay ‘the most famous rapper in the world ever’ Z has only been a celebrity since April, despite the fact he had his first international hit in 1998.
“I’m a big fan of Jay-Z,” 50 told MTV.com, “but outside of the States and hip-hop circles, no one really knew who he was until he married.”
Come on Fiddy — surely some of the people who bought 50 million+ of Jay’s records outside of the US must know who he is.

If that was meant to be a diss it failed miserably. 50 just came off as ignorant instead. Jay-Z isn’t just a famous rapper; he’s also an extraordinary businessman. He was the head of Def Jam records, made a $150 million concert deal with Live Nation, and co-founded RocaWear. Surely that ups his profile and sets him apart from other rappers a bit.
I doubt marrying Beyonce did a thing for his international fame, considering how tightly the two tried to control information about the event. I think 50’s just as good a rapper, but I can’t think of a reason in the world that he’s better known overseas than Jay-Z.

As said by a man who can only seem to generate publicity for himself by taking shots at other people. Hmmm.
He needs to either come up with something creative himself or find a new way of getting people to do anything other than wait for him to disappear.
He’s obviously forgotten the Pepsi (?) billboard poster campaign the pair of them did c.2004, where their faces were mocked up as stamps with national landmarks.
Both of their smuit (plural slang word for miserable pouts) were equally unknown to the majority of people at that time as now.
This is all just to promote 50 Cent new fragrance ..

The first time I saw both of them I thought they were pretty ugly. The only thing 50 has going for him is his nice body. Jayz seems to have more than a peanut for a brain compared to 50, which makes him more attractive in my books + some of his songs have substance. 50 just seems like a demeaning ahole with a fugly mug, prolly sucks in bed too with an ego like that.
i’m french and i agree with 50 cent, i heard of 50 cent long before i heard about jay z and until he becomes beyonce’s husband, i thought he was a member of linkin park…
DD: I agree with your take on their respective IQs. I’ve seen interviews with both, and Jay Z is clearly a very intelligent man, while 50 just comes off kind of brutish.

jayz, hove, camel whatever they call him is old news. his albums have been flopping, he has been dressing in this new ‘geek chic’ wear. which looks pathetic. his businesses are going down the tubes. marrying beyonce isn’t helping him. no one really cares if they are married or not.
i live in australia and most people who are into hip hop know who jay-z is, I think, but he is definitely not as popular as fiddy or eminem…
fiddy’s music is more mainstream than jay-z’s, when fiddy came out, all the people who listen to pop and rnb also liked him, whereas with jay-z only hip hoppers like him, so i have to agree with fiddy.

50, I went to a after party concert you gave in Dallas. Your very erogant not to mention unattractive. Money you can make, but to try to make money by downing Jigga man ain’t it. I live in Latin America and 50 cent is way more popular than Jay-Z. I agree with 50 that Jay-Z marrying Beyonce made more people around here aware of who he is, but still his music is not well known here.
Maybe 50 is jealous, but he is right about what he is saying in this case.
I live overseas and Ive never cared for Jay-Zs music. Beyonce Yes! 50cent Yes but Jay-Z not at all, I was told by a few guys hes been around for awhile cos they listen to him. Five years ago Ive never even heard of him and I listen to a variety of music.
but I do notice that he does pop up more often now with Beyonce in the media. Im finding Beyonce’s music rather boring now. same stuff. over and over and her last CD with music that sounded like a whole lot of screaming was absolutely horrible. We bought a copy when it was released and were really disppointed. Only Beyonce could get away with all that screaming she calls singing, if it were someone else their career would be down the toilet.
