  1. OtherChris says:

Well then, she sucks and so does her last cookbook.

  2. courtney says:

this woman is heartless to say she’s too busy to cook for a sick child. if Sophie Dahl were asked to do the same she’d move around her schedule to do so granted she was exampled that by her grandparents and her mother Tessa [birth name Chantel Sophia}. she’s gonna get it back in another life

  3. Jackson says:

I watched IG’s show a handful of times. She always came across to me as pretentious and rather full of herself. Is she really that busy? Really? No, I don’t believe that for one second. Isn’t she always making meals for her friends on that show, lol? Let the kid come to a filming of your show you snob!

ETA: I thought the header pic was Roseanne for a quick second, then I realized that Roseanne looks much better.

  4. kwoww says:

    i call bullshit.
what 6 year old wants to meet a COOK?
its the kids’ MOM who wants to meet her.

  5. Cali says:

I love Ina and her show. I am disappointed that she wouldn’t fulfill this kids wish, but it is her decision. Maybe she doesn’t like kids, uncomfortable with sick kids or something else is going on here that’s really making her avoid this situation. I dunno…

  6. jen34 says:

If this is true, then she is vile.

  7. Celebitchy says:

Thanks for putting in that Make a Wish donation link Kaiser!

  8. whitedaisy says:

I will no longer patronize Ina’s show or her products.
Fat f**ing bitch of a beard.

  9. munchies says:

guys, i think shes really busy..shes cooking for jeffrey and her neighbors. she also turned down jennifer garner before, she will only cook with her personal friends.

and yes, shes very busy, she even got no time to buy other clothes except those blue and black blouses.

  10. Me says:

That’s so sad. It would have only taken a few hours of her time to make this kid’s day. MAW is such a great organization, and they do a lot of things for kids. My husband is part of the 501st, and they do things with MAW for kids (along with other organizations).

kwoww, kids have weird phases even at six. I also have a son who thinks of himself as a budding chef. He’s always helping me in the kitchen, and our television is on Food Network or the Cooking channel a lot. I have another son that is obsessed with animals, and he’s always wanting to watch National Geographic or Animal Planet. Before the animals, he was all about the travel channel and the history of the cultures of the world. Children really are interesting individuals, and I’m always surprised by what they want to learn. 🙂

  11. I am not taking any article that uses that much profanity seriously. Seriously- as a journalist (and I know they are just a blog) it makes me disgusted. Maybe I would have kept up with your argument better DListed if you could have expressed it without profane language. Granted, I’m all for it- but most of me thinks that we aren’t getting the full story, and the Mom of the kid is upset. Let me just add that I was a child with a disability at one point as well, and frankly, I would have rather swum with the dolphins.

  12. nikki says:

Not defending Ina but whoever wrote that piece(the kids mom?)went over the top with describing how “evil” Ina is, my eyes almost rolled out of my skull.

  13. Liana says:

I’m so disappointed with this story. I’ve met Ina Garten and she was so warm and nice. But come on, just cook something for a kid, for crying out loud. It would take but a moment of your time.

  14. Ariana says:

It’s her decision. Who am I to say if she’s too busy or not….I do think she is a snob though. She’ll be cooking something and say that some expensive ingredient is the only one to use, denouncing anything cheaper. Maybe not everyone can afford or wants to buy such a costly item to make one dish. She does seem full of herself.

  15. Grace says:

@kwoww: I was obessed with The Frugal Gourmet when I was that age.

  16. Riley says:

The Ina Garten piece is heartbreaking, over the top, and fabulous all at the same time (I write fabulous because I love Michael K’s last line and who he notes Ina’s spokesperson is… so clever). Way to stick it to a bitch!

  17. julbug says:

I’ve been watching her for years, and if this is true…and Ina, I hope you’re reading this…make this all better or I’ll never watch your show again and will throw out your books.

  18. Riley says:

Oh, and because I would never describe either JT or Jessica Biel as A list actors, I am sticking my money on Bradley Cooper and Renee Zwelleger for the blind item. She has an Oscar and he the number 1 movie. Plus, he looks really small and she looks pretty vindictive. Wait, there are suggestions for Ryan and Scarlett— that is another good one, but I wouldn’t describe either as A list.

  19. bluhare says:

    Ina garten da evil, baby . . . .

    With apologies to Iron Butterfly.

  20. Tiffany says:

Are people really shocked by this from Ida Garten. The woman never was about the common people, the woman lives in The Hamptons full time. Frankly, the fact that she agreed to take a show on The Food Network is surprising to me since ‘common’ people watch it. Well, as long as the checks clear, right?

  21. Sue says:

kwoww@My 7 year old niece loves to cook and watches the food network channel all the time she would love to meet Duff from Ace of Cakes and Rachael Ray.

Jackson:@I’m with you I to think she comes across as pretentious and rather full of herself.

  22. TQB says:

Blind Item – no way is Biel “A list”. I’m going with Bradley Cooper or Ryan Reynolds.

  23. Catherine says:

All of those mediocre Food Network people have huge egos. This is not surprising. Sad, but not surprising.

  24. lucy2 says:

If true that’s a shame. I know people can’t do everything asked of them all the time, but in a situation like that…you make it work somehow. Even just a phone call or something!

  25. caramia says:

Very sad and cruel, watch out Ina, Karma’s a bitch

  26. anonymous says:

Im so disappointed to read this story. I was always a fan of her cooking shows but you can always tell shes a little full of herself so Now you know its true.

Why not just put out the statement in subtext?
“Ina would love to help out but her schedules wayy to tight because shes just wayyy to into self promoting her books and herself, is trying to make MORE money then she already has and so just doesn’t have any time in between doing all those things.’
Thats basically what the original statement means, just put in a different way. How insulting, her fans made her who she is.

Please give me a break pathetic.

  27. brin says:

Blind item….I think it’s Bradley Cooper & Renee Zellweger too.

  28. flourpot says:

I can’t stand her. Showing off in her huge house, driving around in her BMW and her husband in that Mercedes. Her guests are all rich, white yuppies or the occasional gay man, again: pearly white.

When make a wish comes to you and asks you to strip naked and swim with sharks for a dying 6 year old, you get naked.

    Immediately. What a bitch.

  29. s2b says:

    @#9 – Michael K is a fabulous writer. It’s a bit sad you can’t see that. 🙁

Oh well! We can’t all be awesome.

  30. TT says:

I was obsessed with Yan Can Cook when I was like 6, so I can see a kid being into a big FN star. This whole culture of ‘Celebrity Chefs’ in general has gotten a bit nauseating, IMO. Some of them really need to get over themselves…

  31. Judy says:

I don’t think it’s a stretch at all that a sick little kid who watches t.v. with his Mom has become intrigued by a Chef. I’m considered a gourmet cook and love all the cooking shows and loved and respected Ina before reading this. It’s not enough to write a check to charity in lieu of doing something relatively simple for a dying child. I’ve lost all respect for this woman. Keep givin’ all those dinner parties for your friends in the Hamptons, Ina…that’s what’s really important–not giving up a day out of your life for a dying child. Won’t be watching you again.

  32. guesty says:

Ita @s2b. He is fab. And he warns readers from the onset…be very afraid! Lol.

  33. Alix says:

@ Kate Hollifield: I can appreciate your distain for profanity-filled blogs, but that’s really the whole point of d-listed — Michael K.’s over-the-top, curse-filled, hilarious rants. Not to everyone’s taste, perhaps, but really not trying to pose as journalism, either. His post on this story cracked me up.

  34. jessica says:

OMG that picture of Christina.. wow…

  35. OXA says:

TMZ had the original article and she turned him down 2 times, last year she said she was too busy so he waited and asked her this year, again she said no.

    http://www.tmz.com/2011/03/24/ina-garten-barefoot-contessa-make-wish-child-cancer-leukemia-cooking-chef/

  36. IAM says:

I LOVE MK at D-Listed! This story cracked me up! It’s so obvious Ina is a total Hag/Beard (BeardHag?) Ina’s rep Satan..Buahahahaaaa

  37. Cidee says:

@Kate Hollifield – Lighten up. Michael K. is fabulous, witty and his profanity-laden posts never fail to amuse those of us who look to entertainment blogs for just that – ENTERTAINMENT. Read CNN if you want serious journalism.

  38. Flounder says:

I don’t think it’s fair to judge her because she couldn’t fulfill the request of one fan.

  39. Ellie says:

Anyone with with compassion and a heart would make time for this child. She is heartless. I don’t know who she is, but I’ll never be a fan.

  40. RHONYC says:

jeffrey’s ‘not’ gonna looove that! 😆

  41. kc says:

I googled it, had trouble with Dlist loading. There are loads of articles about Ina saying no to this. Her publicist in a round-about way confirmed it.

(I’ve always wondered about her and Jeffery, he’s only home on the weekend-Friday night to Sunday afternoon)

  42. coexxi says:

I don’t know this Ina Garten person but even if this is true I believe everybody should decide for themselves in which way they want to do charity.

It is really low to make a big story out of this as I’m sure that there are lots of requests “that can not be met”.

So in the end of the day: I call “witch-hunt”.

BTW: still found the article from MichaelK funny, I just don’t take his point of view.

  43. Jewels says:

It is remarkable to me how quickly so many people will take a piece of gossip, translate it into “absolute truth” and then respond with such anger and vitriol, as if they are personally in the know! Instead of sitting around stewing about something that may or may not be true, why don’t you go out and do something constructive with your time.

  44. Hautie says:

This is a charming site, that mocks the ego filled cooks on Food Network.

And there is a great list of reasons why Ina could not make the time for this young man.

    foodnetworkhumor.com/2011/03/top-10-reasons-ina-garten-rejected-the-make-a-wish-foundation-boy/

  45. anonymous says:

Oh please, the woman is busy, has commitments to meet. Sometimes you cant just drop shit and go do whatever some unfortunate case wants you to do. If that were the case, thats all celebs would be doing. Its probably the mother that wants to meet her. All you people downing her need to get the f**k over yourselves.

  46. Kiska says:

@ Kate. MK at D-Listed is wordsmith demi-god. Seriously, his site keeps me happy and laughing. As for the profanity, it is a matter of one’s taste and I for one love it!

  47. Kris says:

There is so much she could have done if she didnt have time to spend with him: send him one of her FAAAbulous baskets or flower arrangements or hey, a f@#$% email! Yes, you do HAVE to do it when a child with a disease asks for you! You people defending her are grossing me out. And this is more than gossip, @ Jewell, it’s all over the internet in major publications like Business Insider. She is going to have all kinds of time for all kinds of stuff, cuz now there is even a facebook page boycotting her demanding food network fires her.

  48. Kira says:

I believe this. My friend went to Ina’s book-signing. She said it wasn’t that busy, so she was hoping to say a few words to Ina. When they met, my friend told her that she loved her recipes and cooks them all the time, etc. Ina would not even look at her. She basically signed the book, didn’t say a single word and never once made eye contact with her. My friend was pretty heartbroken. She wanted to dump Ina’s book in the trash, but I convinced her to donate it to the library here.

  49. Louise says:

Although Ina isn’t the biggest celebrity she does have committments and a life. Also I’m sure she and other celebrities get a lot of dying wishes. It’s too much to expect them to grant them all. Then how do you choose which wishes to grant and deny? Probably better off say no to everyone.

  50. newtsgal says:

    My God!
It’s not like the kid wanted to move in and have daily cooking classes. He wanted to meet her and cook with her.
I wil never watch or buy anything that has to do with her ever!

  51. guesty says:

@jewel…since that’s your position on the matter..why are you on a GOSSIP BLOG?

    & @kris…exactly.

  52. Jules says:

The Barefoot Cuntessa is disgusting. As usual, Michael K is spot on.

  53. TaylorB says:

Ina could have taken care of this issue by simply incorporating the MAW request and not terribly ‘disrupting’ her busy schedule by combining the meal for the DYING child with an episode of
‘Barefoot Contessa doesn’t act like a selfish dooshypoo’ edition. She gets ratings, the kid gets his wish, and people don’t want to smack that b*tch up. Seems like a win/win to me.

And I just gotta say I know that celebs are busy, but for some ‘f’ list celebrity to simply cook one meal for a dying child for Make a Wish is considered a pain in the a$$?? It might be time to look in the mirror and realize the only a$$ in the equation is you.

I will tell you this if that woman is too cheap to pay for the groceries for the meal, I will.

  54. Jackson says:

To those defending her – you really think she gets a lot of ‘dying wishes’ to fill her calendar with? I sincerely doubt it – and if she did, she should consider it a tremendous compliment. Sure, she can say no, and we can then turn around and trash her for it. And, really, she’s the one who needs to get the fuk over herself.

  55. TaylorB says:

    Jackson,

    Amen!!

    And thank you.

  56. jc126 says:

“When make a wish comes to you and asks you to strip naked and swim with sharks for a dying 6 year old, you get naked.”

You know, I don’t agree with this just on principle- why should anyone be forced to do anything for a stranger, dying 6 year old or not? If I were some public figure, I’d do it, but I don’t think I’m obliged to do so. It would be nice, depending on the nature of the request, but we all have free will.
And I’m not always one to blindly take the word of the parents of sick children, either; there was a guy in NH whose sick kid used to be featured all the time in the Boston Herald, he did a lot of bone marrow drives and so forth. He used to go to the paper if businesses didn’t put out collection jars and so forth. It was revealed later that this guy spent 17 years in prison for holding people in a house hostage with a machine gun. And an anonymous donor had paid for the kid’s pricey treatment, yet he still kept collecting and “had to leave work”, in other words, mooching off donations. Bottom line is, he was always saying how this or that person/business did him wrong, and he was an overbearing liar who felt he didn’t have to abide by the rules.

  57. Candy says:

I am not interested to debate who’s right or wrong. I happened to read THAT particular Dlisted article during midnight, it was a struggle to cover up the noise of my wicked glee. OH man I love MK.

  58. di butler says:

I have a back up story-In my past life doing charity event/PR event plannings, I worked with a few of the Food Network stars. Bobby Flay-great, Paula Deen-fabulous, someone who is pictured above-hideous! She is a flaming, uh, pretentious person.

Not outing myself and admitting exactly what happened.

  59. wunderkindt says:

    Ina = Heartless Souless B!tch

Who-the-F turns down an adorable little MAW kid stricken with cancer???

    She’s full of crap!

  60. Chelly says:

What the hell is wrong with this Ina lady saying “i’m too busy” ?

did you guys know lady gaga takes time to meet and even sing with her fans, yet ppl hate her but forgive Ina?

F— Ina, don’t buy her crap!

  61. truthzbetta says:

Whoever was trying to call a celeb blog “journalism” is probably just some PR whore (offensive? oh well …) trying to stick up for this celebrity devil. The embarrassment of journalism in this country is sure not from a site called D-Listed that actually delivers exactly what it promises.

A lot of places are running this story, so if this chef isn’t guilty she’d better get the word out soon. Cruel.

Team Kid, and I hope you get a real miracle, Sweetheart. You deserve much more than a visit from this woman and that is what I pray you get.

  62. Tara says:

She was the only reason that Ieven watched the Food Channel. They are ALL douchebags….sad.

  63. Rasputina says:

Oh well. Screw the previous idea. I don’t think anybody’s obliged to do anything and nobody’s entitled to wish fulfillment, regardless of their situation.

  64. Debra says:

    Amen Jewels.

Ina Garten caters to a very select group…which I happen to love about her.

    It is called economic segregation.
    Highly effective. Multiple benefits.

  65. Kate says:

This woman is blagh and double blagh! Too busy my ass!

  66. Reality says:

What a stone cold bitch! And I doubt she gets many requests from dying 6 year olds, but even if she does, just make a bloody meal for the kid! It costs you nothing but an hour of your time.

And sure, she has the right to say no, nobody can force her to honour a cancer patients dying wish, but only a truly heartless bitch would turn him down twice to promote a fucking cookbook.

I can’t believe the people defending her. I blows my mind how selfish and insular people can be.

  67. wunderkindt says:

Some Good News: Two celebrity chefs, Beau MacMillion and Michael Symon, stepped up and said that they would be happy to spend time cooking/visiting with the MAW child! (Saw TMZ article)

  68. Stephanie says:

@ Grace: Me too! I used to LOOOOVE to watch The Frug when I was young!

  69. Kristina says:

    @Debra

    are you talking about nazis?

    @jewell
dont worry hon, I’m sure your job is safe.

  70. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has a very strong working relationship with Ina Garten, a celebrity wish granter who has generously made herself available to grant a wish in the past. Ina is a good friend of the Foundation and we are grateful to her for her support of our mission.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. From time to time, planning for wishes doesn’t turn out as originally envisioned, despite people’s best intentions and efforts. In such cases, the Foundation is committed to working with the wish child and family to grant another wish.

Each wish we grant requires extensive support from many people, and we respect that no individual has an unlimited capacity to grant children’s wishes on demand.

We regard the planning of wishes as a private process among the parties involved. Thus we cannot respond to questions about any particular wish in progress.

Individuals who are interested in learning more about the wish-granting process, or how they can help, are encouraged to visit wish.org.

  71. MeriJaan says:

I think she is too busy stuffing her face.

  72. wunderkindt says:

    @Make-A-Wish

Ina Garten is a heartless individual.

You should not be her apologist.

    Shame on you!!!!

  73. anonymous says:

Why are people surprised, I looked at her show once never tuned in again she seemed to be a snub, her show is the only cooking show I don’t watch something about this lady turned me off, the music in the background is sickening just like the person using it. I feel so sorry for the child.

  74. the original bellaluna says:

I don’t always care for the language, but Michael K is AWESOME! He makes me laugh so hard I almost pee my pants. Hubby says “what the hell is so funny?” and when I try to read it to him, I’m laughing so hard I can’t.

Speaking of which, is anyone else having trouble accessing DListed? This is the second day I’ve been unable to get on the site. The first pic loads, then it flips me a blank screen and nothing happens. SUCKS TO BE ME!

And about Ina, I have 2 words: Julia. Child. SHE was awesome! And I don’t even know who Ina Garten is!!

  75. anonymous says:

When you go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx where ALL of the cookbooks and i mean ALL of them, cookbooks or not are priced at clearance thats the point of going to those stores you get things at a deal, well Inas is the ONLY one where her cookbooks are still marked at regular price i notice at every marshalls or tj maxx you find the same thing. I thought ok she has a deal where her books wont be marked at less then 20$ because they’re ‘so special’ now i know she just thinks that and really when you look at the cookbooks they aren’t that special, maybe one or 2 recipes out of the whole book are something unique, otherwise its just everyday kind of food really. I never thought spending 20$ on one of the cookbooks was worth it.

  76. Kate says:

I don’t know, while I think Ina is a pill, and yes, a kid can idolize a celebrity chef, but something about this still seems off to me. Ina is not exactly kid-friendly TV, and if this kid is watching this show all of the time, it makes me wonder if his mom is the Ina superfan. I mean, your kid is sick…let him watch some Backyardigans once in a while, you know?

  77. eternalcanadian says:

Wow, if this story is true (sometimes TMZ is right, sometimes they are wrong), this is the most rude thing Ina can do. She has no childen herself so she does not know what it means to a child to have their wish dashed like that. I mean really, how difficult can it be to just let the kid come over and watch her tape an episode of her silly shows? So rude Ina!

  78. Samsam says:

@56 Ina, and people like you, are a giant part of what is wrong in our world today. Sure, no one is obligated to do anything for a dying child… but if you cannot show compassion for a dying child, to who will you show it? We are human beings living on this planet, proving to be one of the most vicious animals of them all, showing no regard for our fellow men or women, a world that is turning increasingly apathetic and cynical.

  79. Laurie says:

Playing Devil’s Advocate, why did the family rat her out to TMZ of all resources. Of course they would make a big deal of it, trashing celebrities is their bread and butter. Knowing the story would then get picked up, reported on every blog possible and she would be royally trashed. Feel terrible for the child, but who would have known if they had not talked.

  80. OXA says:

If you read the story on TMZ, it says they learned of the story.
The TMZ coverage was not the original.

  81. Colleen says:

Apparently One of the readers on enzo’s blog went to tmz, not the family themselves. The boy wanted to cook a meal w/ her, a very simple and sweet wish. After the first rejection they encouraged him to pick another wish but he held out hope to meet her when she was less busy. When they asked a 2nd time, her people said it was a ‘definate no’.

This is so shitty. On the one hand people have a right to delegate their finite amounts of time/money/energy as they see fit and no one can say yes to every charity, and there’s something not right about charity rejections being made public. But I doubt Ina is so busy she couldn’t have fit him in, invited him to the show, or at least sent a gift. If it was a superstar athlete who had possibly 100’s of requests per yr then it would be different. However Ina doesn’t want to stray from her hamptons garden. She should be honored that he wants to meet her more than anyone else on earth.

  82. Hannah says:

There are two sides to each story.Yes,Ina seems to not like kids that much but she has had them on her show from time to time.I was under the impression her hubby had retired. As for that cheap remark by one gal,I am sure Ina has a tab at the grocery store and pays it each month.Rich snobs do this.

  83. Colleen says:

Just went to angelsforenzo.com to read his mom’s original post. Enzo will finish treatment this june and they’re hoping he’ll stay in remission. Apparently he has been unwavering in his desire to meet her for 3 years and wants to still, even though he knows she doesn’t want to meet him.

He is concerned that when the cancer leaves his body it doesn’t go to another kid, but to a neutral spot. Very sweet boy.

  84. jc126 says:

Lol!!!! Yes, I am a big part of the problems in the world. I admit it. I go around being mean to sick children, it’s a hobby of mine. Why, I took care of a dying child the other night in clinical for school, and I took every opportunity to pinch her a lot. I also kept switching her TV from Dora the Explorer to Fox News.
    Hahaha!!!!!!!!!
    @@

  85. paperjam says:

I’m willing to give her a pass on the first request, although it pisses me off because I never liked her, her show or her cookbooks, but she definitely doesn’t get to run her “too busy” excuse a second time. Enzo wanted to meet her and cook with her so badly that he passed up a wish to wait an entire year to request again. Bitch should have taken her mani-pedi time and gone to cook with the kid. Hate her more than I did before.

That little boy already knows that life sucks, and he certainly understands that he doesn’t always get what he wants, (I’m positive he didn’t wish for cancer) so I’m thrilled that he’s going to cook with the 2 chefs, MacMillan and Symon, who stepped up to the plate, and swim with dolphins.

  86. J.H. says:

God, I love Michael K so much. I read Dlisted faithfully every day, and usually end up in tears of laughter. *air kiss, MK!*

  87. aury says:

this is disappointing, but not surprising. she’s always been full of shit, this just proves it.

  88. Isa says:

I love Dlisted. It was the first celebirty blog I started reading. Michael K’s humor and langue is probably not for everyone and that’s cool.

I’ve been having problems loading his page too. HOpefully they will be resolved soon.

As for this woman, I don’t understand?? She’s too busy? Could she have invited him on the show? I mean, an episode like that people would’ve ate it up! The kid would’ve been happy and she would’ve came off looking like an angel.

I’ve changed my stance on this since I read the mother’s blog. Seems the mother is claiming her son (who isn’t dying, by the way)wanted to meet Ina since he was 3. Seems kind of fishy to me. And MAW tried mutliple times to get him to change his request because they said celebs almost ALWAYS say no. Ina did fulfil wishes for them in the past. Makes me wonder if someone put a bug in Ina’s ear that the child really should have a child-friendly wish grainted. Maybe I’m wrong – don’t want to skewer the mother – but by her own admission, her child doesn’t want to swim with dolphins either (seems he can’t swim and the foundation is paying for swim lessons for him). So – who is really choosing this child’s wishes for him? I can’t imagine a 3 year old requesting to cook with Ina and waiting three freaking years for it to happen. Just doesn’t sound realistic to me. Also, this whole mess started from the mother ranting about it on her blog. Totally seems off.

    Ina obviously hates sick children.

  91. Hakura says:

@Kate Hollifield – I do understand your disliking the amount of cursing. Personally, I find the ‘C’ word to be especially distasteful. But the rest of it was ‘run of the mill’ for a humorous blog post. A little over the top, yes, but rather funny.

@Lucy2“If true that’s a shame. I know people can’t do everything asked of them all the time, but in a situation like that…you make it work somehow. Even just a phone call or something!”

I totally agree. As someone else pointed out earlier, she *did* turn down Jennifer Garner (& I guess other celebrities) requests for her to cook for them due to not having time.
But a sick child is in a completely different league. She should be flattered that a (possibly dying) child wanted *his 1 wish* to be meeting her, & having her cook for him, because he’s a fan of her & her show.

Turning the poor kid down TWICE… Because you have to go to a book signing or what-not… You just can’t get much lower than that.

I’m sorry, while I know she may be busy, there’s simply no excuse for brushing off a sick child’s repeated request. Jennifer Garner may have been turned down, but the odds are better that Jennifer Garner is going to be alive next year (as opposed to this sick child, who may not.). (Making it clear that money talks, & she’s deaf to anything that won’t benefit her wallet in some way.)

No way the original Barefoot Contessa would have done this.

@ anonymous: Is that you Ina ;)?

  95. wunderkindt says:

I just found an iron skillet at Marshalls with Ina’s face carved out on the bottom.
I’m gonna throw some eggs at it and and fry that sucka!

  96. flourpot says:

@jc126 “why should anyone be forced to do anything for a stranger, dying 6 year old or not?”

I totally understand where you’re coming from. No one should be obligated to do anything they don’t want to do.

With that said, you said yourself that you’d do it. So would I. So would most of us. Why? Because we have empathy for a stranger who’s in a shitty situation and a few hours of your time would give a bit of happiness. I think that’s the majority of the outrage I’m reading, that she refuses to part with that time.

I watch Lord of the Rings a lot so my 6 yr old does as well. She gets off on dragons and princess that can kick ass. If she were dying, she may very well say – I want to meet Eowyn, mom! (Miranda Otto).

Yes, it may seem like it’s me who wants to meet her. And hell yeah, sure I would. But it’s run off. She’s been watching it with me, it’s someone she really likes so she wants to meet her too.

Do you think Miranda Otto would say, sorry… I’m washing my hair. Or even if she was filming something in NY do you think she’d say Sorry – I’m just too tired?

I don’t. I think she – or any other decent person – would say – sure. I can carve out an hour.

    And that’s the issue.

  97. Alex says:

I dunno. On the one hand, it was poorly done to say no-I can agree to that. On the other hand, I think it’s weird that a 3year old (then 4, 5, 6)would want to meet a chef. All the kids I know, am related to, and babysit for can barely stay still long enough to watch a kids tv show much less an adult show not geared in any way towards them. I tried it. Disaster.

Regardless, just because someone has any level of fame, doesn’t make them obligated to do anything. The second you make money or become any level of famous, charities (both personal and professional) come out of the woodwork. You pick a few you want to work with and politely turn down the others. You can only do so much. And MAW stated that she’s worked with them before so she’s hardly a “heartless bitch”. Personal lives are just that-personal. We’ve not even heard her side of the story yet.

In any case, I’ll once again say that it wasn’t well done to say no, but she did.

Instead of channeling all this seething hate and anger on a TV Chef (for gods sake), how about you put your energy towards our soldiers being killed in a pointless war? Or that our economy is awful? Or that there are children starving to death in America? *shrug* Perspective people.

  98. Perla says:

@Alex:Huh? What’s to say people don’t do that already? And good job judging a child’s interests! Not all kids have super-short attention spans. And as an ex-childhood cancer patient myself, I can tell you that he’d probably have some time where he has to sit around, and times where he doesn’t have the energy to run around. Oh, and the drugs at certain points made me super-hungry 24/7, so taking an interest in food isn’t all that surprising.

  99. jc126 says:

#96 – I just don’t like the dynamic in play, or the overreaction, without us having all the facts. I don’t automatically believe the sick kid’s family, having seen how a dad of a sick kid manipulated the media wildly.

  100. annalee says:

The problem with this is not that she said no, it is that she didnt say no at the first request. If you are the kind of person who says no to this than have the balls to do it at the beginning. Instead she led him on thinking it might still happen, all the while he could have had another wish. MAW says lots of celebrities say no, but I am sure they dont do it half assed like this. I do not believe she had any intention of doing it, meanwhile that little boy waited and waited and waited and then was told no. Disgraceful. She needs to be fired.

  101. jojo says:

@annalee That is a really good point.

As if this Ina mess wasnt all bad enough, someone told me today that Ina is friends with Gwyneth!
Goopy wrote all about how amazing their day was trying out new recipes and gushed on and on about how they are such wonderful friends. AND HOW WARM HEARTED SHE IS!!
At least finally there is a reason to laugh, leave it to gwynnie p to make me laugh, never fails.

  102. Sparkles says:

LA Times is reporting that Ina’s people turned down the wish w/o her sign off (she didn’t even know about the wish request), and that she gets about 100 requests per month “…and that she works extensively for a variety of causes, including battered women, cancer patients, AIDS awareness and animal rights.”

  103. Hannah says:

The news is reporting she has agreed to meet the kid but not at her home.

    http://www.tvsquad.com/2011/03/28/barefoot-contessa-ina-garten-cancer-patient/

“Ina became aware of Enzo’s story this weekend and will be calling him today,” a spokesperson for Garten told ABC News. “She looks forward to inviting him to spend some time with her at the Food Network studios.”

  104. Hannah says:

The little boy’s family changed their minds and are not going to meet Ina.I think they are sick of her.

  105. Davidd says:

If you really want to hurt the heartless wench hit her where it hurts, her POCKETBOOK! #1)Do not watch her show on the Food Network #2) Do not purchase any of her cook books #3)the store she shops in on her program is The Barefoot Contessa Shop. If you live near her store go shop at her competitors store. The public made her a star and we can break her! Next time make a wish comes calling she just might be a little more compasionate about their request for a sickly child.

  106. Hannah says:

I’ve never bought any of her expensive cookbooks. Her former store I believe is now closed. Not sure why?Maybe the new owners lost customers due to the tough economic times. They ran a marathon of her shows on Friday,I thought it was amusing.I did watch a few mins.of one of them but quickly changed the channel.:)

  107. Gina Gina says:

All she cares about is eating tons and her wiry-haired husband. She only caved after the backlash. If people don’t watch her nauseating shows and buy her books then no $$$$. She is a despicable, enormous blob. Go on a diet. How bad can that be?????
