Jessica Simpson is spending over a million on 11/11/11 wedding in Hawaii

54382pcn_jessica01
In Touch has some supposedly exclusive details about Jessica Simpson’s wedding plans to her former football player grad school dropout fiance, Eric Johnson. As she did for the courtship, her engagement ring, and their daily life together, Jessica is paying for the destination wedding, and why not? She’s loaded thanks to her fashion line and Eric is her date and companion and that’s about it. At least Jessica has a prenup, if rumors are to be believed.

Well Jessica and Eric got engaged on 11/11/10 and if In Touch is accurate they’ll be married on 11/11/11 at 11:11. It sounds cheesy and superstitious, but I still make a wish when I notice that the clock says it’s 11:11. I don’t schedule my life around numerology or astrology or anything though. Jessica seems to, and she should just trust her instincts and not try to get by with magical thinking. We’ve heard at least two stories this spring that she’s had cold feet. That happens when you just know you shouldn’t go through with it. Jessica is pushing forward, though, and is said to have been inspired and challenged by the royal wedding, and to want to use her wedding to get back in the spotlight.

After months of stalling, Jessica Simpson has finally agreed to an “I do” date – 11:11 a.m. on November 11, 2011- and she plans to ensure that her nuptials with Eric Johnson, 31, become the new wedding of the century!

“Jessica will be spending upward of $1 million, easily,” a source close to the singer, 30, tells In Touch of the splashy affair, which will take place on the romantic Hawaiian island of Kauai.

The surprise announcement is a huge relief to Jessica’s friends, who as In Touch previously reported, had all but given hope that the couple would ever make it to the altar. The reason for Jessica’s sudden wedding fever? It’s a last ditch attempt to revive her career, says another insider. “She was devastated when she didn’t get hired to be a judge on The X Factor….”

Now… inspired by the hysteria surrounding the royal wedding, Jessica has hired [planner] Mindy Weiss to oversee a headline-grabbing event that will help her reclaim the spotlight. “She’s flying more than 50 family members and friends to spend a week partying with her and Eric in Hawaii,” a friend of Jessica’s tells In Touch.

Between Weiss’ fee ($150,000), guests airfares ($50,000), rings ($100,000), hair and makeup ($25,000) and flowers ($10,000), the costs are already staggering. “She’s picking up the tab for everything,” says the friend, who notes that Eric is currently jobless.

Jessica refuses to spare any expense – least of all when it comes to her gown. Referring to the now-iconic Alexander McQueen dress worn by her bridal competition, Kate Middleton, Jessica has thrown down the gauntlet, declaring, “I’ll outdo her!”

[From In Touch, print edition, May 30, 2011]

You know that Jessica will outdo Kate Middleton by having bigger hair, a more elaborate dress, and a showier wedding. If it’s true that Jessica is trying to use her wedding as a way to wedge back into a show business career good luck with that. Reese scored the cover of People in her wedding gown and it didn’t help her movie at the box office at all.

The photos below are of Jessica Simpson having lunch with Eric’s family on mother’s day. This is how she dresses when she’s visiting with her future in laws, in a denim shirt with giant rose emblems on it, short shorts, platform sandals and a leopard purse.

Here in the south we call long toes like those (last pic) LIMB GRIPPERS!

  2. MJ says:

Wow, it does not get much more tacky than planning a wedding on Remembrance Day (Canada)/Veterans’ Day (US). 11:00 on 11/11 is when you’re supposed to observe two minutes of silence. Seems pretty disrespectful and ignorant to me.

  3. ladybert62 says:

Could someone please explain to me why this woman is famous? Oh I remember she had some reality show with her cutie husband and she made some dumb comment about tuna! Oh well who am I to criticize as I dont have a million to spend on anything let alone a wedding! This woman is now known for a fashion line? You are kidding right?

  4. Oh the Humanity says:

    She ALWAYS dresses like shit!

  5. MikeyAngel says:

Poor woman can’t dress to save her life.

  6. brin says:

This wedding is going to be cheesy-tacky
no matter how much she spends.
I still can’t believe she has a successful fashion business and she dress like that.

  7. searching4grace says:

Are you kidding? The in-laws aren’t going to say anything about how she’s dressing. She’s going to be bankrolling the whole family, soon. She strikes me as just princess enough to want all her numbers to line up on her wedding day. Meh. My husband and I can never remember whether we got married on the 30, or 31, so we celebrate both days. šŸ™‚

  8. vanessa says:

I know this is off topic but I recently bought a pair of her heels and I must say they are the most comfy pair of heels I’ve ever worn. I can get shitty drunk and not fall down! LOL
Anywho! I would never dress like that around my in laws, just tacky!

  9. arock says:

she makes shoes, for the love of god get some that fit girl

  10. Melinda says:

I have a silly facination with what people do for their weddings. Whether it be tacky, beautiful, large, small or somewhere inbetween, I just like to see how people represent themselves as a couple. That being said, I can’t wait to see the circus this will be!

  11. guesty says:

I can’t wait to see the wedding pictures! I loved her in newlyweds….hated her for leaving nick but recently she’s kind of endearing again. Smh. Bwha.

  12. sassy says:

I know other couples who are planning to get married on 11/11/11.
wouldn’t it be kinda funny if astrologically this would be the worst day of the year to get married?

  13. Lisa Turtle says:

I think everyone has cold feet. Even in good relationships, there is always some doubt: Am I ready to settle down? Am I sure that he is “the One”?

For Jessica, she already had her big white wedding. She had her “One” and that all went down in flames. She may be more pragmatic about this relationship. She’s shown herself to be a savvy business woman, she ditched her overpriced hack hairstylist that Paves monster, she’s got herself a solid prenup…

I think Jess may be going into this marriage with her eyes wide open. She’s 30, she’s made no secret of her desire to have children, she is ready and he is available.

No, its not the most romantic way to start a marriage, but all marriages are buisness arrangements in certain ways.

At least the 11-11-11 party sounds awesome. I would love an all expense paid destination wedding to Hawaii in dreary November. I want that invite!

  14. 4Real says:

Like Brit Brit YOU just can’t buy STYLE! She has some cute pieces in her line so I can’t understand why she dresses like a smelly scrub all the time.

  15. flowerzombie says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Jessica – her personal style or lack of it is a part of her appeal. She she seems sweet and goofy in a fun way -just wish she wasn’t marrying THIS guy – he hasn’t had a job the whole time she’s known him – he’s just using her. She should give up on Hollywood and find a Texas businessman who loves and adores her.

  16. thegreatdefender says:

    why not 11 mil?

  17. Nanea says:

We got married on Triple Eight, so I should stay out of this, but…

I have no idea if Veterans Day and the day to honor the dead in the Commonwealth is such a good idea to get married, unless it’s maybe a small private ceremony. Knowing Jessica, even considering the fact that In Touch is out of touch as usual, it will be anything but.

To use a wedding to outdo other people and to get back into the spotlight is just wrong, and I’m sure, as are probably many others, that it won’t last long anyway.

  18. Quest says:

An 11 million dollar wedding in Hawaii, hmmmmmmm, hopefully it will last longer than 11 fart-filled months, 11 burping days, 11:11 glorious mins:secs

  19. Amy says:

I mean, you’re either fashionable or you’re not. And if you’re not, you ask other people for help!

I’m a mess when it comes to fashion but it always heartens me when I see pictures of Jessica. Even I would never wear something as hideous as that second outfit.

But that’s why we love her!

  20. Brittney says:

I’ve been making wishes on 11:11 since childhood, and I’ve also been planning a Hawaiian 11/11/11 wedding since then. My BF and I aren’t exactly on track to that, but still. Jessica Simpson, you have my wrath.

  21. nanster says:

What a waste of money on something that isn’t going to last.

  22. anoneemouse says:

She is so predictable…she will probably aim to have her first kid by 10/11/12 and her second kid on 11/12/13 too.

  23. Darla says:

I hate people like this. 1 million dollars on a wedding.

This woman has no right at all to call herself a Christian. If she has that much money to burn, it could do some real good for a lot of people. It fed thousands and thousands of abandoned animals. She’s just a self absorbed fame ho trying to stretch out her moment in the sun. No class at ALL

  24. lucy2 says:

She knows that a marriage comes with the wedding, right? It’s not all about a big party and magazine covers.

I would LOVE to have a wedding in Kauai, but that’s a crazy amount of money to spend.

  25. fancyamazon says:

@MJ ITA . Sad and disrespectful.

And for someone who has visited the soldiers on those celeb tours so much, she should know that.

  26. meilamon says:

Mindy Weiss planned her wedding with Nick. Tacky, don’t you think?

  27. TeeTee says:

WHY does she always have to be sooo damn cheesy, smdh…its disappointing.

WELP, we sure can’t say money changed her, she is just as stupid and brassy as ever.

Eric follow along and you’ll be a rich man–pre-nup or not.

  28. Alix says:

Oh yeah, these numbers are lucky. Look how well 7-7-07 worked out for Eva Longoria.

  29. courtney says:

stars having big weddings is nothing new but it’s quicker to just elope in Vegas like Newman & Woodward did in 1958. granted it’s so much easier to divorce now than it was then

  30. Brittany says:

    Whatever…

We all know she’s going to end up spending $11 million on it… $11 million exactly EVEN.

  31. Elizabeth says:

    @ MJ and fancyamazon

I agree it is tacky and she should know better having visited troops and all. But Jessica has never been able to connect the dots. She is dumb, dumb and dumb about these kinds of things.

  32. Kimbob says:

What up w/her toes all hanging out of her shoes in that last pic? Yeah, I agree w/some of the other bloggers….girlfriend can’t dress.

  33. the original bellaluna says:

So this will be her what? 10th, 15th “final attempt at reviving her career”? How many more will follow?

    @ MJ & fancyamazon – Too true.

    @ Alix – šŸ˜€ HA-HA!

  34. Violet says:

@MJ – Agreed! It’s completely disrespectful of her. If she’s hung up on the date, then I hope she at least has the decency to schedule the wedding for 11pm.

  35. ol cranky says:

now, now, she plans on getting married at 11:11 which is a good 9 minutes after the 2 minutes of silence would be complete.

If she’s that hung up on the 1 issue, shouldn’t she be spending $1,111,111.11 exactly on this shindig?

  36. Dhavy says:

She’s dressed like crap but so are the in-laws so I don’t see the big deal

  37. e.non says:

chosen for an easy to remember date…

  38. bogie says:

Is she really going to marry this dude and is he really going to marry this chick. She is desperate for any man and he wants someone that will give him the posh life. I guess for some, once you get married once however many times after will not matter.

  39. LL says:

Let me guess…Nick is getting married on 11/10 or 11/12?

  40. The Other Hand says:

Ready with the divorce party on 12-12-12?

  41. Dingles says:

That’s a lot of money to throw down on a pre-divorce ceremony.

Also, I knew a couple that married on 7/7/07. They split after two years.

  42. Diva says:

Her shoe company and other ventures grossed 750 million-plus last year. How dumb is she really?

If she wants to spend her cash on her own wedding, more power to her.

And many of the styles from her shoes line are pretty cute, actually.

  43. wunderkindt says:

Kinda sad that she had to purchase a short term husband.

  44. Hawk says:

    Agreed, Diva!

  45. t says:

ā€œShe was devastated when she didnā€™t get hired to be a judge on The X Factorā€¦.ā€

That’s really sad. She actually believed she had a chance when really this was only a rumor planted by Joe to get her some press.

What’s even sadder is she believes she’s really getting legally married when all that’s happening is Joe has arranged for a fake wedding (like Speidi) hoping to keep her in the spotlight.

He hired a fiance for $10,000/month and he’ll hire an actor to pose as a preacher or judge to perform the pretend wedding.

Hiring a pretend boyfriend and a pretend preacher is a whole lot cheaper than paying for a real divorce. Plus, he may get In Touch to pay him for the pictures of the pretend wedding.

  46. endoplasmic ridiculum says:

I know it sounds weird.. but too a lot of people a million just isn’t that much. It really isn’t to them, for something like a wedding. …

I don’t agree with it.. I think you have to be in denial about all the hurt in the world to spend that on one day…. But it’s not that big a chunk of change to some people.

  47. Truthzbetta says:

Does she have spots all over her face in the close up?

Her lines of plastic shoe, plastic bag and plastic wig money are ill spent.

Upgrade don’t downgrade when purchasing men.

  48. BabyCakes says:

Has anyone but me noticed how big of feet Jessica has for someone that is so short? Love her though, but just an observation.

  49. Melinda says:

Ok, so I’m betting she has no idea its veterans day. She’s just excited to be a bride. I know i’ll catch some flack for saying this, but let’s just let her be a happy bride. It’s not like she’s clipping baby carriages and behaving like a reckless lunatic. Sure she has too much money, and is spending it frivolously. There are plenty of worse things to be upset about. She’s harmless and not very smart. I’m going to spend my time and energy getting worked up over things that are truly awful, where do I start?

  50. Caz says:

I don’t think they’ll actually marry. I can hope that she gains some sense and finally sees him for the gravy train hanger-on that he and his family are….? She doesn’t need a career if her clothing line makes that kind of money.

  51. Kasey says:

@ Dhavy- agreed. This whole meeting/event is casual-looking so I don’t see the big deal with her outfit. She fits in perfectly.

Re:her toes sticking over, I wonder if she happens to just have that longer 2nd toe and that’s what keeps sticking out over the shoe? In any event, she doesn’t seem to want to go up in shoe size and maybe thinks she can get away with it since the shoes are so high and her toes don’t have to touch the ground. In any event, I think wider/rounder toed shoes are a better deal for her.

Hmm…are we SURE about this 11.11.11 wedding thing? Well, if she hasn’t/doesn’t change her mind about marrying him before the wedding date I think she’s playing for keeps. In my opinion Jessica is proud and that’s the reason she wasn’t able to mend things between her and Nick who put up with her public, crazy, dippy, nuttiness AND loved her nonetheless and he was somebody “known”. I give MAD props to Ashlee for trying to make it work after her split went public-that’s what marriage is about, weathering the storms and unconditional love, we’ll see if they stick it out.

I don’t see this relationship ending before OR after the wedding unless there is some public scandal. She has slowed down and given herself time to better know him and I hope they’re doing premarital (although for some reason I get the idea that everyone around her just tells her what she wants to hear). She decided on a prenup so he isn’t going to ruin her financially if he dumps her right after.

And you know what, he may actually love her. She’s pretty, got an average-above average bod, there’s also the added bonus that she is just plain addictive, if you go by John Mayer’s assessment. Let’s be honest, aside from the guy being divorced, talked badly about by his ex (BIG surprise?) not having a job (this economy is rough on MANY) can we really hate on him? I think she may realize he is the best she has had/may get since Nick. I’m not joking or being mean. He is sticking with her, doesn’t seem embarrassed or grossed out by her, accepts her older, non 0-2 sized-body (REALLY how many celebs/musicians are into that after fame? only normal guys are willing to accept reality), is willing/happy to be her lackey (he’s got no other competing responsibilities), no career rivalry, reasonably attractive, her family approves-kinda like the best replacement for what she had. He’s Nick, but not. They made Nick out to be some monster and I DON’T know the whole deal, only my impression, so with the not being in the spotlight thing he may be even BETTER for her than Nick (although I think Nick’s assertiveness was GOOD for her).

Times are tough, Jessica is getting older and wanting a family. If he doesn’t even want to work he can stay home with the kids while she works on her “career”. I’d hate to say she’s settling ……. at this point in her life she wants love and a family and she’s getting the best she can. I can’t hate on her for him not having a job, in this economy MANY qualified people don’t-plus it frees him up to lavish her with attention. For any of us we’d want someone that sees and knows our mess and wants to be with us anyway because they love us. Maybe that’s what she feels she has with this Eric Johnson dude and maybe that’s exactly how he feels about her.

The surprising thing to me is that regardless of Eric’s intentions, Papa Joe is willing to let someone else milk his cash cow! Perhaps he DOES care about Jessica’s happiness or is at least guilty of causing her to lose the best thing (I think) she ever had.

Oh! And where’s all this weight loss y’all keep pushing on me?

  52. really says:

she will never have a man as good as Nick again, but try telling a ding-dong that! Nick kept her in check, so sad she flew the coop!

  53. Emily says:

I wonder if she’ll have a minute’s silence at her wedding for Rememberance Day.

  54. Jessica says:

IF Eric really loved her he would get a job!

Eric Does Not love her. Jessica pays for EVERYTHING!!!!

That should tell you everything right there!

Jessica is SO Sad & Pathetic and I hope this marriage ends in Divorce. (More than likely it will).

If Jessica Bought the ring in August, they would have only known each other for 3 months.

Eric is a loser and a leech and Jessica is too stupid to see it. Jessica is NOT in love with Eric, she’s in love with love and the whole fiarytale wedding.

  55. Jessica says:

Kasey, Eric does not want a job because he knows Jessica will pay for EVERYTHING!!!

So why even get a job when your GF always pays for your way.

  56. GeekLuva says:

Ok, Im getting married 11-11-11 in vegas & Im gonna play the slots after our reception….
    So yeah Im tacky.r

*edit* & my ringbearer is probably will be dressesd in his finest wovlerine costume as he walks down the aisle! BOOYAH!

  57. John Wayne Lives says:

    @ Melinda Cosign

But He does seem like a moocher, if not a full on user. I bet he knows just how to play her emotions and keep lines blurry. I think she is a true romantic with white picket dreams and wants to be loved. Makes it easy to overlook warning signs.
But I just don’t think I could respect a man who didn’t work.
Oh well, I wish her many babies and years of fun before it all crumbles.
Something about this girl really makes me hope it’s true love.

  58. Call Me Al says:

@ladybert62 – She owns an awesome fashion empire! Her shoes, bags, and new dresses are awesome. That’s why she’s famous. Good for her.

  59. Hunny says:

What a million to a billionaire to be? Good luck for her fairy tale wedding. šŸ™‚

  60. Nikki says:

Ironic that she has a successful fashion line because she consistently dresses in ill-fitting, unflattering, trashy clothing. And I still think it’s sad she’s marrying this loser, he’s clearly with her because she’s his cash cow. All very sad. On a meaner note, she still looks chunky.

  61. Dani says:

    @39: Good one.
    @40: Agree!

I just don’t forsee this marriage lasting. I can’t imagine anyone better suited for her than Nick, and unfortunately that marriage went to the dogs.

  62. Nudgie says:

Who cares? If she wan’t doing this, we’d have nothing to post about and she’d still wear something stupid.

  63. antisara says:

Everytime she wears peeps her toes hang all over the place…EEEWWWW!!!!!! can she get decent shoes hat actually don’t spill her hand like toes?

  64. Hakura says:

God, those shoes are ridiculous… You could base jump off those things… At least she supposedly has a pre-nup. (You know Papa Joe wasn’t letting her anywhere near that aisle without one.

I’m a little disappointed that she’s going through with this. It seems that she’s doing it for all the wrong reasons (to get back in the spotlight, to outdo someone else, or to play to superstitions when she may have otherwise continued to put it off.) She’s a successful woman who should be getting married because she’s really in love with someone, not because he’s bought & paid for to be her ‘Ken doll’ (to just stand there, look pretty, & keep his mouth shut.)

I just thought she was better than this. She’s already been through one divorce…

  65. Hakura says:

I think of Jessica as sort of endearing in her own way. You know, the sort of person who’s actually quite ‘harmless’ for the most part, does & says stupid things all the time, but still seems like a genuinely nice person… Like someone who wouldn’t blow you off, if you approached her. (If it was at a restaurant, she’d might even invite you to sit down, then would proceed to talk your ear off, as though you’re old friends.)

I have to admit much preferring that, to someone like Christina Aguilera, who seems like she’d be a total bitch, completely confident in her superiority to you, & would snap her fingers to summon a bodyguard to escort you out of her presence. (Then probably yell at him when he got back, for letting a ‘normal person’ get that close to her.)

    ————————–
@MJ“Wow, it does not get much more tacky than planning a wedding on Remembrance Day (Canada)/Veteransā€™ Day (US). 11:00 on 11/11 is when youā€™re supposed to observe two minutes of silence. Seems pretty disrespectful and ignorant to me.”

There’s nothing to say that she won’t observe those moments of silence. (The wedding starts at 11:11, after all.) But even if not… I honestly don’t believe there was any intention (at all) for her to take that day/time away from the Veterans. It’s just a unique opportunity to use that month, day, year, & time (comprised of all the same number) for her wedding. (& perhaps she is superstitious.) Her wedding day is a really important day for she & her family… cut her some slack, eh?

@MikeyAngel“Poor woman canā€™t dress to save her life.”

You’d think, being the name behind an extremely successful fashion line, she’d put a little effort into her appearance. The way she dresses doesn’t do anything to positively represent her ‘fashion line’…I’m surprised the people in charge of her PR don’t yell at her for that.

  66. colt13 says:

Not thrilled with the amount of money she’s spending, but she looks really relaxed and healthy in those pics. Good for her.

  67. Jaxx says:

When I was in high school I had a superstition about 11:11 too. If I happened to notice the clock at that time (and you couldn’t sit and wait for it–it had to be a true glance over and hit it right on the money) then that meant the next day was going to be especially good. I used to get a little thrill every time I caught the clock with all those ones spread across it. (OK, I’m easy to please……..and a dork, but you gotta take your thrills where you get them!)

  68. Justaposter says:

    http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/96-jessica-simpson

Quit belly aching over the rumored cost of a wedding. I bet she gives more than the rumored amount to the various charities she is involved with.

  69. munchies says:

her money, her wedding. she is a billionaire. she can schedule it anytime she want, she can pour all her riches to it, and should not be other people’s business.

many people says ‘who cares’ about her, so why should she dress herself just to please you? she like what she wear, shes comfortable with it and i see her having no problem with it. the problems are with people criticizing her from hair to toe.

a mans love is not measured by his Job. think it the other way: a woman married, no job and stay at home. a woman riding on the mans riches. should only women have the right to marry richer partner to have better life? what is the difference?

and for one here wishing Jessica for another divorce– that just so mean and you are far more worst than you think about Simpson.

  70. Janett says:

In Germany, 11/11 at 11:11 a.m. is when carnival season starts, so no one takes anything serious that day and especially at that time.

  71. kasper says:

It’ll be the first million dollar wedding planned by Hee-Haw and catered by McDonald’s. There will be a Big-Mac eating contest at the reception. Jessica wins.

  72. Alix says:

@68: I agree! At least that million bucks will be supporting other people’s jobs: bakers, bridal shops, whatever. I don’t know where people get this idea that celebs/millionaires need to give every last cent of theirs to the poor. Unless we’re giving all OUR extra money to the less fortunate, we should clam up (and we are more fortunate than 99% of the earth’s population, so don’t go there).

Good Lord, I just defended Jessica Simpson — a woman who probably has no idea when Veterans Day is. I think I’ll lie down now…

  73. t says:

The wedding is really costing her 1.5 million. The groom won’t show up unless she pays him $500,000.

ā€œEric is on what you might call a vesting plan,ā€ an insider tells Star. ā€œHeā€™ll get $500,000 as a wedding present. Then, on each anniversary, heā€™ll get another $200,000. Is he and Jessica make it to five years of marriage, heā€™ll get an additional $500,000 bonus – and a $1 million bonus is they make it to 10 years.ā€

  74. kasper says:

    @ t:

you’ve achieved the impossible, you’ve actually made me feel a pang of remorse for knocking JS. God, she has to pay that sleaze to be with her? I know she’s not the sharpest tool in the shed, but maybe even she doesn’t deserve that. On the other hand, she is a fraud who pretends to “design” her own clothes (she’s not the only fake designer though).

  75. maria says:

I love sandals with high heels. I even wear them with shorts sometimes. I also like Jessica – she’s just being herself. Looks like they are all dressed pretty casual, so I can’t dig into what she is wearing.

Yet….. I just can’t with the toes hanging off the shoes. She doesn’t have huge feet. Surely she can find a size that allows her toes to stay on the shoe. This is definitely one of my pet peeves…… Issues, we all have them.

  76. Rubber Ducky says:

The ex Romo has gotten married this weekend. So what PR desperate move will she do in the next week so that the attention is on her and not one of her ex boyfriends? You know she will do something because she thinks it makes it look like she has moved on when to everyone else, she just looks desperate. Because God forbid any man that she dates not be pining for her forever. They aren’t allowed to move on and find happiness somewhere else. She doesn’t believe it is possible. Jessica’s world revolves around Jessica. And if all the attention is not on Jessica, she will do something to ensure that it is all about her.
