When I heard that Prince William and Duchess Kate were coming to LA to meet some movie stars at a big gala, I was struck by this thought: “If I was Duchess Kate, what American actors would I want to meet?” I think I would really like to meet Angelina Jolie, of course, and Jon Hamm (and all of the Mad Men people – the show is huge in the UK), maybe Leonardo DiCaprio, and… then I got stuck. There aren’t that many “movie stars” left, and there aren’t that many people that I would get all hot and bothered to meet.
In the end, Kate and William did get a decent turnout for their BAFTA event on Saturday night, even mingling with some A-listers like Nicole Kidman and Tom Hanks. And then there’s Jennifer Lopez. Jennifer came to the event with her mother, Guadalupe, not her husband Marc Anthony. Jennifer wore one of the most revealing and inappropriate dresses of the evening, a cutout Pucci gown which I hated. Jennifer isn’t what I would call A-list – she’s certainly a diva, and her career has been rejuvenated by American Idol, but she wouldn’t have made my top-ten list for “People I’d Like To Meet”.
In the end, though, Jennifer did get a lot of face time (and camera time) with Will and Kate, and afterwards Jennifer tweeted, “Good Morning Lovers! Had fun with my Mom! The Duke & [Duchess] were simply charming!” Like Her Royal Highness Jennifer Lopez deigned to meet Kate and William and she was in a position to declare them “utterly charming”. Too harsh? Jennifer didn’t mean it that way, I know. She was just trying to make sure that we knew she spent time with the Cambridges. Now you know!

Ever since she was named (by People Magazine, I think) the World’s Most Beautiful Person (or Woman) she has gotten even more full of herself than ever! I didn’t think that was possible, but there you have it. Not only is the dress inappropriate, which is an understatement, it isn’t even flattering on her! She looks so cheap!

I watched Jlo and her mom on the HSN selling her new perfume and I have to say it was very entertaining. She spoke about everything, from her kids to when she started out in show business,she was the sweetest and most down to earth I’ve ever seen. People were calling in to say how much they admired her, she really did not act like a diva at all. Her mother is so funny she even imitated her daughter’s dance routine. It was so funny. Her mother keeps her grounded, she even said so. They both look great!
I don’t think J Lo is a diva, but when she is on a red carpet, I feel like she tries to exude this weird superstar aura and that gets her labeled with “diva.” Also always making weird faces and posing awkwardly wearing inappropriate dresses.

Surprisingly, a lot of mean spirted comments on this blog. J-Lo’s dress may not be for some but to talk about her background and/or “breeding” is too much – it is a pretty low blow and makes me wonder about some people’s upbringing. I am not necessarily a J-Lo fan but comparing her to a hooker or whatever else is an insult to any woman out here who has built a successful career and family life from the ground up. No one should be putting Kate on a pedestal by knocking others down. When I look at these pictures, I see a pretty young woman in a beautiful dress who just married into the royal family, which comes with its fair share of burdens. Right now, William and Kate are in a honeymoon period (and so are their fans) and that means they are getting a pass on controversy right now but just like every other royal, tabloid coverage is almost guaranteed.

Eesh, not enjoying all the class talk and judgments these pictures seem to evoke. Everyone looked great, including Jennifer Lopez. Women don’t have to be the same. There are all kinds of styles and beauty. It was a simple reception for a young couple. The queen wasn’t there. It wasn’t a White House State dinner. It seems many of you are fuzzy on protocol.

Interesting, yesterday it was comparing Kate to Michelle Obama (on another blog but it happens too) who is twenty years older than her (And has a JD from one of the best schools in the world).
Now today, it’s comparing Kate to Jennifer Lopez (not Blake Lively whose dress was eh), not Nicole Kidman, not Zooey Deschanel, or Dana Delaney whose outfit was a joke too–99% of comments are about Jennifer Lopez.
Now we don’t know much about Kate. She has a MRS–I mean, a Scottish MA, which is really just a Bachelors in the United States. We’ve only seen her photographed. And the one interview she gave, she wasn’t particularly articulate.
She has drastically lost weight–a good 20lbs, and yet she is the picture of perfection, class and grace.
Give me a break!! It’s the white woman’s fantasy to be a princess, and the hate that is displayed towards women of color here who don’t have to starve to be beautiful, is repugnant.
CHECK YOURSELVES. Think about what you admire and why you admire it. And consider why you want to take down women of color.
