Over the weekend, MSNBC had a little bit about this Marine named Scott Moore who is stationed in Afghanistan. Sgt. Moore plans ahead, you see, and he wanted to line up a date for the Marine Corps Ball in November. His ideal date? Mila Kunis! So he got a great idea – make a YouTube video asking Mila to go with him to the Ball, and set up an email account where Mila (or her people) could get in touch with him. Here’s the video:
Well, good news. Mila Kunis is awesome! She has accepted Sgt. Moore’s invitation after some prodding from Justin Timberlake and a Fox News correspondent.
When FOX411 asked Kunis about the invitation over the weekend, her “Benefits” co-star, Justin Timberlake, assured Moore he was going to make it happen.
“Have you seen this? Have you heard about this? You need to do it for your country,” Timberlake asked Kunis excitedly, before sending out a direct message to Moore. “I’m going to work on this, man. This needs to go down.”
After questioning her publicist if she knew about the invitation, the clearly flattered 27-year-old actress agreed.
“I’ll go, I’ll do it for you,” she said, turning to Timberlake. “Are you going to come?”
“They don’t want me! They want you,” Timberlake responded. “You need to do it for your country.”
Kunis nodded.
“I’ll do it,” she confirmed.
So get that limo reserved, Sgt. Moore!

I hope she follows through – my guess is that she will, now that she knows about it and has publicly agreed. If she follows through, she will be supremely cool. And if she follows through, something tells me that there will be quite a few servicemen taking to YouTube videos to ask out their favorite crushes.

As a veteran of Marine Corps Balls, they can be fun and/or tedious. But it’s all very meaningful, and the men & women look so beautiful in their dress blues!

I must be getting older…I haven’t a freakin’ clue as to who this woman is. Her beautiful eyes drew me here! LOL! Although, my beautiful girlfriend has the most gorgeous peepers on the planet. Anyway, I don’t agree with or support this BS war in Afganistan (or Iraq) – it’s all about the Caspian oil pipeline and the drug cartel there – I do think it’s sweet of her to do this for the serviceman, who is an unfortunate pawn of the global elite.
She just won major points with me.

but I think situations like this puts celebrities in an awkward position. If she had had to say no would people have turned around and attacked her as uncaring and selfish by not supporting a service man that is risking his life. Sometimes as much as you want to do something you may not be able to.
And yes a lot more will do the same and again the celebrity is caught between a rock and a hard place.
I think her saying yes is awesome, but I hope this will not be a new trend.. like all those service dad’s surprising their kids at school. After a while it becomes a gemmic. I’m not cynical really I just see the other side of these situations.

If you could properly assimilate what I was writing, you would see it was not directed at him, per se, rather the ones above him who have him and his fellow soldiers there to fight their corporate war. Perhaps if we could all wake up and see beyond the Fox News headlines, we’d realize it’s a damn waste for this young man to be there in the first place.

You can call them pawns, you can call them what you want. They knew what they were signing up for and 95% of the soldiers I know would do it again in a heartbeat. Plain and simple, it doesn’t matter to the soldier what the motivation is on the “big boss man” front. THE SOLDIERS motivation is to keep people like YOU and me safe and give YOU and me the right to speak our minds without being caned or WORSE.
No one should denigrate soldiers, Marines, anyone in the military, but implying that all war protesters are “pussies” is moronic. There’s plenty of vets who protested the war.

Oh, Mila, just to see those Marines in their uniforms….EYE CANDY!!!! Enjoy yourself to the fullest; military balls can become a bit dull at times, but then they are still plenty of fun. Make the most of your opportunity to spend some time with our military people; they are incredibly talented in each of their fields and are so very brave to continue their careers with low pay and long deployments. I suspect you will have a wonderful time, and if this young man was brave enough to use the internet then he deserves a beautiful young woman on his arm. And as for the Vietnam war vets, spare me your deluded pride. HOW many of these men have been treated like a disease since they returned? HOW many of these men suffer extreme post war mental and physical disorders? HOW many of these men are homeless, destitute, and have been literally thrown away and ignored by the government, just as their contemporary Iraq and Afghanistan soldier colleagues? HOW many vets attempt or are successful at suicide, because they CANNOT get the help they so desperately need? So DON’T TELL ME what is WHAT! You go, girl. Having been to many Marine Corps balls in my life (my husband retired as a MSgt) I have only two words of advice:
1. Don’t eat the cake. It’s always crappy. Always.
2. Bring a wrap. I’ve never gone to a MC ball in any venue where it wasn’t freezing. Shivering and turning blue in a strapless gown is not attractive.
