What would it be like to be incredibly wealthy and have the time, energy and inclination to spend money on incredible gifts for your loved ones? For Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, the gifts don’t seem to include Elizabeth Taylor-level jewelry, which is disappointing. I would love it if Brad was always buying Angelina jewelry. Alas, I don’t think Brad’s big on that. But Angelina still gives Brad the perfect presents, the gifts that keep on giving, at least according to The Mail. Their sources claim that for Brad’s 48th birthday a few weeks ago, Angelina gave Brad a waterfall. Like, she bought a swath of property that included a waterfall, and now Brad wants to design a house for their family ON the waterfall.
Brad Pitt has completely fallen for his Christmas present from Angelina Jolie – a waterfall in California. The star now plans to take time out from his movie career to build an ambitious house over the falls near LA in the style of his favourite American architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.
The actor celebrated his 48th birthday on December 18 with Angelina, 36, and their six children and Angie told him that the falls and surrounding land were his birthday and Christmas presents.
A thrilled Pitt is now planning to embark on an ambitious and exotic building project emulating the design of Lloyd Wright’s 1939 masterpiece Fallingwater, which was built in Pennsylvania on a similar piece of land. The pair visited the house in 2006.
‘Brad has always loved Fallingwater and his first trip there was unforgettable,’ says a friend. ‘Angelina wanted to get him something incredibly special and, because she knows how much he loves architecture, she thought this would be perfect. She hopes this will be a hideaway for the family. Brad has dreamed of a home with the sound of a waterfall cascading under the house.’
The couple recently sold their Malibu home to star Ellen DeGeneres.
‘Brad has always wanted to design his own house. He wants to pull all aspects of nature, light, glass and varying levels into the concept,’ says the friend. ‘This is the present to top all presents.’ Brad has said he’d like to give up his Hollywood life, declaring: ‘While acting is my career, architecture is my passion.’
[From The Mail]
A waterfall house would be amazing… although probably not the best idea with six young children, you know? “Where’s Knox? OMG HE’S IN THE WATERFALL.” Angelina did “gift” Brad with a trip to Fallingwater in 2006 – there was even a lovely photo of the couple at the site. Anyway, even though I find Brad’s obsession with real estate, remodeling and architecture rather annoying, it seems like Angelina thinks it’s a nice occupation for Brad to have, and she encourages it. I guess Brad is almost done with the remodel to French chateau, so he’s probably looking for a new project.
Photos courtesy of WENN.
Don’t believe it and yes the remodeling on the French chateau is done
The Mail story is definitely BS. And the Brange do NOT own the French Chateau. They merely Leased it.
I love waterfalls, fountains tiny, big inside and outside the home. It gives a sense of peacefullness and serenity.
I like what is zen and tropical.
The Frank Lloyd Wright house ruined the view of the water that the owners loved, and they had to listen to the constant sound of running water. Other than that, nice house.
Brad should have fun with his waterfall. Cool gift.
Well, that’s different.
I don’t believe (2)
He really likes and is familiar with architecture, i saw an interview yesterday about the Moneyball movie which opens here in Brazil in January. And he quoted one of our greatest architects Oscar Niemeyer. He really appreciates architecture, but I think most of these supposed houses they buy are not true news.
If this is true, I think it shows what a lovely wife Angie is. She just lets Brad be himself and encourages his little (or I guess not so little!) hobbies 🙂
I think it sucks that she combined birthday and Christmas presents…..that’s so cheap 🙂
LOL 🙂
I doubt if it is true. The tabs never get it right regarding their gifts to each other. Like that necklace Angie had made for him. Won’t get into where they were saying that came from. But regarding the real estate. All those dumb stories of houses. They have not purchased any other home after the French estate. If they did they don’t go there. And that is not Brad Pitt to not oversea a home. He did buy he surrounding property around the Los Felix home.. which is kind of nice considering that is the first home he bought when he got money. The home he is raising his family in. Romantic in a way.
but Angie said he was hard to buy for. so who knows, but I say not true.
5 years ago she threw him a private party for his birthday at the fallingwater house since he always wanted to experience it. now she bought him a property where he can make his own. its a very sweet full circle kind of gift.
Do they even own the French estate? They were definitely leasing it for a few years but nobody has ever confirmed they purchased it. I’m almost positive that owner was quoted that the property wasn’t for sale. I doubt this story is true since the tabloids always falsely report they purchased property.
No, it was leased. The building permit that was shown by the papers was for the restoration of a dovecote of something like 50m2 and was in the name of the company that owns the Chateau and whose listed owner is the guy who leased the Chateau out to the Brange. They in turn probably leased it from him through a foreign based holding company (NL I think I heard somewhere) which allows them to defiscalize any earnings of that NL company providing the earnings were not actually made in the Netherlands. (NL company then “charges” them very high weekly or monthly rates based on a furnished rental) Anyways, a commercial lease in France runs for 3, 6 or 9 years and they stopped going there after 3 years, so it seems the lease wasn’t renewed.
I kind of doubt the waterfall story is true. i think some “journalist” extrapolated from Fallingwater, read a bit about “Grotto sex” from whatever rag published that little tidbit and then ran with it.
A waterfall house…in CA?? Earthquakes & 6 children?? Sounds like a new disaster movie in the making.
That’s what I thought — earthquakes plus landslides!
But, nice gesture!
What a poseur. And I bet the house will be decorated in all shades of white.
People love to act like they hate this couple but they waste their time clicking and comment on every post about them. Sad
very thoughtful and romantic. love the pic of them at fallingwater.
If true, that’s a really nice, thoughtful gift.
So THATS what you buy someone who has everything. Pretty damn creative!
Why does he need to buy jewelry for her? To finance more blood diamond violence? So vapid.
Agree
Maybe he would buy her Emeralds, Rubies, Pearls, Paraiba Tourmalines, Imperial Topaz, Sapphires or any of the dozens of other gemstones that aren’t blood diamonds. Or diamonds from Russia (world’s biggest production), Canada, Brazil, India, Namibia, Botswana, Tanzania or any diamond producing countries other than the Ivory Coast (who is in violation of the Kimberley Process) or Zimbabwe (who isn’t because the terms specify “civil war” and not “slave labour forced by corrupt government officials”).
And you know what? Rare earth metals? Blood coltan… It’s just an awful lot easier to point the finger at a luxury item that people envy and don’t have rather than your (and everyone you know’s) cellphone.
What do you do with jewelry?
Can you read it? Use it to travel somewhere? Eat it? Call with it?
No. It has no other function than showing off.
Still vapid.
Tell that to Ellen Barkin whose jewellery was auctioned off for way more than it cost, post-divorce. Or any number of people who, in times of war, have fled with pieces sewn into their clothes. Or all of the Asian and Middle Eastern women who wear their gold rather than trusting their money to a bank.
Jewellery is mobile wealth. And gemstones are mobile pieces of real estate. The first is a means of safeguarding your assets and the second is a form of investment, if done right.
So, I’m getting from your comment that it’s ok to fund civil war providing the “blood goods” in question are useful in your eyes. I don’t think you have much room to be throwing around “blood” anything if that’s the case.
Wendy you are right. Gold is the only investment that has increased consistently (even real estate goes down and besides, if you have to flee you can’t take it.) They are selling Liz Taylor’s jewlry at auction this year. A hansome sum of $ will be made for her heirs or her charities.
@anon: well chosen, gemstones are a very good investment too. Not diamonds, but coloured stones. If you have the chance and the eye to get into a new find of quality goods early, the prices only go up, because each mine will eventually expire. Burmese Rubies, Kashmiri sapphires, Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline, Namibian Mandarin Garnet, Russian Alexandrite and Demantoid, there is a locality where the Nec Plus Ultra for each variety comes from. The Brazilian Paraiba was going for a couple of hundred $ a carat for rough (expensive then for tourmaline) at first. Now, a matched pair of one carat each stones is worth about $20,000 a carat. Vapid indeed…
I’ve seen a few of his projects in Arc Digest and the recent Malibu one he sold to Ellen–he actually has amazing taste. Well, it’s close to my taste, so that’s why I like it. Very mid-century, modern.
Ditto, I agree.
He is posing pretty hard in these pics. Even shades of duckface in the 2nd pic which I find funny and tragic. The gift sounds nice although I don’t think I would be keen on the constant sound of a waterfall in my home – they are very loud.
You’d also have to pee all the time… Just sayin’
What happened to a pair of socks each year 😀
Hey, isn’t CB going to do a post about the massive flop of her film? They are using pictures of the premiere and it is pretty big news since we were getting bombarded with the promotion interviews for it for weeks and now when the first verdict is in (critics are 50/50 about it and at the box-office it’s a disaster!) we don’t hear anything about it…
You really are invested in trying to find failure in a film only playing in only 3 theaters.
Let’s wait til the entire run. And while the reviews are Mixed; just like with Sandra’s film and Glen Closes film as well there has been nothing negative from the people that lived the event. They in fact are applauding the film and her efforts. I guess you missed that when searching for the negative. LOL
Who says NM9005 was looking for the negative. There is no need to strain or filter to find this out. It flopped & these things happen. Maybe the marketing strategy was off. Angie should have stayed behind the scene & promoted the movie more & herself less. She made the promotional aspects of the movie all about her & maybe that was a turn-off to a lot of people. Could be the subject matter is unappealing. Not sure what happened here.
Yes, the film is a flop. Top critics have it at 43% rotten on RT. You don’t have to hate her to call it as it is.
And sure it was only in three theaters, but so are a lot of art house films that have done much better, and that’s with not even close to the amount of promotion- magazine covers, tv interviews, photo ops, etc.
The silence/angry denial of her fans isn’t going to change that.
how about we wait till the numbers are in WW..i recall people gloating and bashing angie when the tourist made 16mil opening weekend and had 20% on RT..yet Angie and Johnny got the last laugh because it went on to make 278mil
ITA dede. Angelina Jolie is much more popular overseas than in America, and her films usually prove this as foreign gross for her films are usually stronger than domestic (USA) gross. Thats where she makes her money, in overseas cinemas.
People please, I was not trying to look for the negative. It just seems odd to me that when we got four or five stories of Jolie promoting this film (countered by vapid stories of Aniston to shake things up) and then when the film finally comes out after what seems like a decade, we hear nothing about the performance of this highly awaited and controversial film!
I read the good AND bad reviews and neither of them will stop or push me to go see it. If I want to see it (which I will eventually) it’s because the story and subject seems interesting and daring.
I hope she can crank up the numbers but so far it’s not looking good and that’s a fact not a figment of my imagination or a hate letter towards Jolie. Box office and critic wise, it’s not good and you don’t have to be a hater or lover or anything in between to see that.
@dede: The Tourist is terrible. In general.
@lisa: The Iron Lady is playing in only one more if I’m correct and is doing better so that’s no excuse.
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=inthelandofbloodandhoney.htm
http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=ironlady.htm
With all the promoting she did, she should have pulled way more audience than she did now. They have to figure out how to make profit and fast.
You are both right that we should wait over a longer period of time but it wouldn’t hurt to write how dissapointing the opening was. It happens with other films too, why not with hers? Because you like her? Reporting the initial failure, doesn’t take away that she was gutsy enough to have done the film…
I find it amazing that you are comparing the BO of The Iron Lady, a movie about Margaret Thatcher who I imagine quite a few people still remember as the prime minister of England, to the BO of a movie based on the war in the Balkans that very few people seem to care about or remember, with virtually unknown actors and actresses, and is sub-titled. I am a Jolie[Pitt fan and I doubt very much I will see the movie. Angie and all the people involved said they knew it will not be a blockbuster, but that they hope it will encourage a dialogue. The reviews have been mixed, which is good. especially since Angie wrote the script. Angie and her fans have nothing to be ashamed of or defend.
BTW, the movie Doubt that MS was in in 2008 had a similar BO to ITLOBH. I am sure no one screamed “failure” then.
Kaiser, why does Brad’s interest in architecture “annoy” you so much?
It’s a bit hard to see how a film could “create (or spark) a dialogue” if no one goes to see it, and the actual true events didn’t either.
I’m not going to slam anyone for trying something different. But just as acting is a profession, so is writing and directing. While she may feel strongly about the subject, she may have been better served to tackle something less difficult and keeping it less visible until she learned the ropes and could give the Bosnian subject the treatment it deserves. I think that playing on her actress populality at this stage to put herself and her project under the spotlight was a mistake. She could easily afford to spend some time apprentising next to some of the best directors if she wanted to. I can’t imagine that with her box office draw, there would be many who would say “No” to mentoring her during a shoot if she wanted and was willing to be the right hand of the director.
how did a article about Angie buying a waterfall for Brad’s Christmas gift turn to the BO for ITLOBAH?
@Wendy
Why does she need to work as an appentice? Did Clint Eastwood, Robert DeNiro, Robert Redford, Jodi Foster, and countless Actor’s who decided to direct a movie for the first time?
The fact that it was a small budgeted movie that she and Brad partially financed is a great way to start.
@deltona: is there something wrong with speeding up the learning process if you have the time and money to do so? If you have a “passion project” that you want the whole world to see and think about, don’t you think it would be better served by being at a stage where you can craft something that people will actually go and see?
I’m hoping CB/Kaiser are waiting with the review till they can see the movie. So far the opinions on it are so varied that it’s really hard to say anything. But I do see your point, NM.
That it’s a financial disaster no one’s going to deny (then again, I don’t think anyone’s actually thought this movie would make money).
___________
edit: Also, I’ll be curious to see how it does in Europe, and how it’s received. (The Balkan War seems to be a much bigger issue here than in America)
@NM9005 …
Well, perhaps that’s because *16* reviews at Rotten Tomatoes does not a ‘flopped’ film make. Of the 16, it is glaringly apparent that four of the reviews were posted by ‘critics’ that hadn’t even seen the film. Along side those four, there is one review that complains about being annoyed by subtitles and unknown actors in the film, hardly a hindrance to any reputable film critic.
Like “The Tree of Life” (whose widest release was 263 screens), “In the Land of Blood and Honey” was obviously NOT made to make money, which is why it’s also in limited release.
In the end, it’s how Angie’s peers (other Directors) view her film debut that matters most. Do let us know when ‘those’ reviews are at 48% rotten, will you?
Ugh.
It’s dropping already, it’s two theaters now.
Critics or not, nobody is seeing this film so as somebody already said: you can’t learn anything if you don’t even bother to go watch it. I doubt they will make the move of giving it a wider release.
If it’s already on it’s way out of theaters, then it’s not likely to be getting many more than the 16 reviews it already has. It’s a little hard to not call that a flop.
Giving a “waterfall” didn’t turn out to be as dirty as I hoped. (sighs with disappointment)
If you’ve been to any of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural wonders you’d understand Brad’s love and fascination.
It’s a quirky gift, but in keeping with their lifestyle.
You do realize its only been in 3,theatres right?
Well, a totally unheard of, unpromoted AND foreign language film released the same day in the same number of theaters has made 3x what Jolie’s vanity over hyped BOMB has.
Pina
Domestic Total as of Dec. 26, 2011: $91,823
Distributor: IFC Release Date: December 23, 2011
Opening Weekend: $68,012
(3 theaters, $22,671 average)
Just a note – “Pina” was directed by Wim Wenders, shown at all major documentary festivals in Europe last year, won in the best documentary category at the European Film Awards, got a nomination for the best foreign movie at BIFA and was picked up by Sundance Selects in the US. So whether it’s heard of or unheard of really depends on where your interests lie.
I haven’t seen Jolie’s debut yet, so I’m not gonna voice an opinion before I do – all I know is that it polarized the critics, for better or worse. One of the critics who trashed In The Land (Karina Longworth) also trashed “Up In The Air”, “An Education”, “We Need To Talk About Kevin”, “The Skin I Live In” and “My Week With Marilyn” (all great movies nominated for several big awards). The other (Geoff Berkshire) gave a good review to the remake of Footloose.
So, to each their own.
But in general, I would be cautious judging the value of movies based on how much they earn – I don’t see Titanic being valuable in any way, and it earned tons. And lots of very valuable movies don’t even get distributed in America.
Pina is a 3D Dance movie. 3D movie tickets cost more so less people could have seen it and it made more money.
did Pina feature brutality and rape and extreme violence? honestly dont mind Olivia, she is from femalefirst and as you all know that site is unhealthy obsessed with the Jolie-Pitts..they think Jolie smuggles drugs from other countries, she is in the CIA, she used voodoo to trap Brad, johnny lee is vivenne’s daughter, Jolie was never pregnant, her assistant Holly carried the babies, the lunacy goes on
Olivia why is it that every time you post with so-called ‘information’, you are shown up as a liar and made a fool of? Don’t you get embarrassed and tired of looking like an ill-informed fool all the time? Honest question. All you do is make a fool out of yourself. Have you no sense of self-consciousness or self-respect or embarrassment? Seriously if I were proven wrong and illinformed every time I opened my mouth on here or elsewhere, I’d be mortified. You seem to be so oblivious and impervious to any sense of shame or embarrassment.
@Jackson: for the record, the numbers that Olivia posted are correct. How does that make them a lie? CoughPotKettleBlackCough…
Wendy, see Original Chloe’s post, and Venices, and mine about it not being released worldwide yet. Its not about the figures themself being incorrect. If you’d read all these posts, your question would be redundant. Also she said Pina was ‘unpromoted’ and ‘unheard of’. Original Chloe’s post proved this to be a complete and utter LIE! And Olivia always, ALWAYS gets caught out in her malicious lies. Olivia made a fool of herself as usual. CoughPotKettleBlackCough inded.
#Checkyourreadingcomprehension. Snap.
@Jackson: I’ll bet that 99% of the posters here had never heard of “Pina” although I doubt most will admit it. There were no magazine covers, no Anderson Cooper interviews, no widely covered premieres (or at least none that attracted much media attention), no trotting out of famous spouse etc.
As for it being released worldwide. 5 countries, right? How many screens do you think she has? Do you suppose that if she can’t keep it on 3 screens in the US, they’ve booked her onto hundreds abroad? Not very likely. And even if it does the same ratio as The Tourist, that would be about 150K.

Indie Box Office: ‘Iron Lady’ Opens Strong, ‘Descendants’ Crosses $40 M
http://www.thewrap.com/movies/article/i … 280k-34019
The Weinstein Company’s biopic of Britain’s former prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, opened to a remarkable $280,409 at four theaters — a per-screen average of $70,102.
Meanwhile, Fox Searchlight’s “The Descendants” continued to dominate the indie box office, crossing the $40 million mark, while Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut, “The Land of Blood and Honey,” has flopped and appears to be on its way out of theaters.
Brad Pitt doesn’t buy Angelina swat, she must be paying him to stay. Angie most precious gifts to him beautiful kids risking her life, which his narcissistic wife (who he married in a lavish ceremony) refused to do, not even marraige he wouldn’t do, what a selfish guy. Top it off with Angie constant bragging about how much she cares about him in all of her interviews, you don’t hear Brad Pitt say anything much in that department but he was quick to tell the world how much he admires Jennifer Aniston and what a good person she is after his foot-in-mouth debacle. Hope Angie dumps his behind.
And you know Brad personally to no he dose’t buy her anything?
Hes only publicly lavished love and praise on Angelina, says he was dead in his marriage before he met her (oh, snap Aniston, ouch!), and talks about choosing her as the mother of his children every second interview, but according to you, thats not enough. (rolls eyes) He said one nice thing about Aniston ONCE. Save your passive-aggressive bullshit because the facts prove you wrong. Unlike Aniston, Jolie doesn’t have to pay someone to act as her boyfriend every 3 months.
Here’s some news folks. Brad is not an architect. He has no degree in architecture. Just because he’s an actor, he thinks he’s automatically qualified. It’s an insult to real architects. I’m interested in the human mind, so I think I’ll go do some brain surgery.
Actually Brad works with the Architectural firm of Graft. who are architects, and have spoken often of his talent. So the fact that this world class firm welcomed him into their firm and have him consult with them on projects says more then you who doesn’t know much at all.
Just because you don’t go to school to do something does not mean you can’t be talented. Just like there are writers, singers and artist that have never taken a class, they still have the talent
designing a building is not playing medicine. It is not the same and not that serious.
He is talented in this area; and why that is hard to understand it crazy.
@lisa: there is no way you can become an architect without a formal education. I highly doubt a world class firm would *seriously* consult with Brad Pitt on projects. That is beyond ridiculous.
Blonde on the dock: I think in this case ‘consulting’ is code for, ‘Hire us and you might get to meet Brad Pitt!’
Lisa: Of course they are gonna keep him as a ‘consultant’. He’s Brad Pitt. He’s probably gotten them all kinds of access and name recognition that they could have only dreamed of before him. All of that brings money.
I’m not saying he hasn’t studied it or anything but no architectural firm is gonna turn Brad Pitt away even if he sucked at it.
Actually he had been working with them for many years. They are out of Germany I think. So the ridiculous part is you don’t know what you are talking about I do.
There are loads of pictures of him working with them on conceptual designs. Do a bit of research.
@lisa: I’m married to an architect. One needs more than an “interest” to be considered a consultant. Especially by an architectural firm. It’s not an art form so it’s not about talent.
Lisa… An architect does far more than just lend creative ideas, if that is indeed what Pitt is doing rather than just lending a name for publicity’s sake. I doubt very much that Pitt has the scientific knowledge to calculate the structural load that this or that idea would exert on the rest of the structure, I doubt very much that Pitt has the slightest clue of the various norms that need to be respected depending on where the house is built and I doubt very much that his true involvement goes anywhere past “I like this, I like that, I can see this here, Can we place this there”? The “glory projects” for architectural firms are very few and far between, the vast majority being buildings where the client does NOT give you free reign over your imagination and says “3 bedroom house, 200 m2, dining room, living room and we need to maximize (or minimize) the view. And you have to put your own “good taste” aside if your client’s taste doesn’t match your’s.
Does one really have to point out the numerous interviews over the years where Brad talks about studying architecture? That’s what you do when you have a hobby that isn’t your real job. People have become highly proficient in their hobbies, which is really their true love, with their day job being the means to paying the bills. Brad has studied architecture masters and has visited with architect firms as sort of an unofficial intern, asking questions and having his questions answered.
The man is 48-years-old and has had the means to pursue his ‘hobby’ for many years. Do you really think he knows less than dyck about the subject?
Just WHERE do you get the impression “he thinks he is automatically qualified”? He never said that, he never said he thinks that or he is. Please stop attributing things to him that he has never said.
That probably came from people saying that Pitt has been “welcomed” into an architectural firm who “consult” with him on conceptual projects. Seems to me that some of his fans appear to be trying to make him out as someone who is qualified as an architect.
Anyone can go into an architectural firm and have plans drawn up based on their own design ideas. All you have to do is pay them, that’s their job.
For my next birthday I want a mountain!
(And a pony, of course)
I shall wave my magic wand ….POOF! A mountain for original Chloe and I shall spin in a circle three times and ZAP A pony for Original Chloe.BTW in case you’ve started looking for your presents keep in mind that I have a big heart but not much real magic to speak of!
Oh but if I did you’d have your mountain and pony and my daughter would have her pink unicorn and some little girl named Sarah would realize my sweet 12 year old son is the most amazing boy ever and the world would in general be a better place BIPPITY BOPPITY BOO!
Aw. ^_^
Amusing that the haters keep calling Blood and Honey a bomb. It’s only showing in 3 theaters. I also don’t understand why they keep insisting it was supposed to be a blockbuster. The movie has an unknown cast, in a foreign language, and a difficult subject. This is not the recipe for a blockbuster which is why it’s a low budget film ($15 million?). The reviews are mixed but even a lot of the bad reviews aren’t that bad.
Nobody, including Brad, said he’s an architect. Just that it’s a big interest. Also he’s been studying it for years, including school and working with professional architects. It’s amazing that people will use any excuse to bash Brad and Angelina.
Its actually getting great reviews from people that saw it.I would love for it to be Academy nominated. As for the critics…Just as many recieved the film well, and just as many did not. So,to me the glass is half full.Jolie put herself out there,in a mans world,a world where women are just beginning to thaw the ice.Power to Jolie, power to all woman who are fearless.
Totally agree.
Women like her and Debra Granik (Winter’s Bone) just start to thaw the ice, as you so aptly described it.
Am glad to see it, because I’m quit sick of having to watch male-viewpoints the great majority of the time.
I think the budget is below 15 million. And no Brad never called himself an Architect but as you say has a great interest in design. He has met with some of the big names in that field and they all applaud his wealth of knowledge and how studied he is without having the education. So yes just a way to demean the man and overlook that he has talent in this field. Regardless of not having a formal education in it.
Thoughtful and sweet. Hmmmm, perhaps his Christmas present was an announcement that she’s having a baby? Let’s wait and see.
Brad was designing & remodeling his houses long before he met AJ. Very old JA interviews talked about this. Just because he is not a trained architect doesn’t mean that he can’t take his ideas to architects for engineering to construct.
Exactly. Well said. 🙂
Of course, but that makes him a good client, not an architect. And everyone who uses an architect takes their ideas to be engineered. That’s the whole point.
Again, when/where has Brad EVER called himself an architect? Having an INTEREST in architecture is NOT the same thing as BEING an architect.
Once again, he has NEVER called himself an architect (that I am aware of), he has only ever said he has an INTEREST in architecture.
Sigh.
God people, give it a rest already, your points are not valid or true about BP. At all.
Camille: Brad didn’t say it-his fans on this board were over inflating his credentials and talking about how he’s kept on as a ‘consultant’ at an architectural firm as though he has some special insight that they need.
I would suggest your fellow fans give it a rest with the ‘he reads a lot do he’s qualified to design a home’ stuff.
@Heine: You took the words right out of my mouth.
@Camille: No, he didn’t say that he was. I was simply making the point that he is a client, not a collegue as some starry-eyed posters seem to think.
Sigh.
Anyone with half a brain knows he’s NOT an architect or has ever even called himself one (and I think that goes for even the hardcore Brandge fans). I don’t think anyone here actually said he was ‘qualified to *build/design* a home’ either.
So all of these ruffled feathers over his interest/hobby in architecture need to calm down IMO. 😀
Oh and please don’t lump me in with certain groups of posters (ie: ‘loons’ or whatever). I’m not one.
@Camille: The half a brain comment made me laugh. Yes, some have less than that.
“It’s less about what I accomplished, and more about what the cast accomplished by making this project together. That message of unity and desire for a peaceful future the cast sends is what will make the biggest difference.” – Angelina Jolie
what a sweet gift, angie loves her brad, and brad loves his angie, you see? really, that’s all that matters, it’s been 7 years and their detractors are just waiting for even one slip up. true love conquers all, ..angie has said she did not expect Hugh numbers, she knew the subject matter and budget was not favorable, what she hoped for and received was people knowledge about it, brad never claimed to be a professional architect, he said it was his passion, did any one read the write ups of both subject? before going on attacks? wow calm down. happy new year every body, same crap, different year. lol
Brad might have his finger on the pulse of what is currently stylish in the realm of high end homes. But there is no way a real architect would seriously consult with a layman. Maybe Brad just wants to push the limits of what is structurally possible in terms of aesthetics–but getting a degree in architecture takes at least 6 years of difficult schooling. He is unqualified at best to actually design a building.
Why is his love for architecture annoying to YOU?
I don’t get it either. brad has talked about working with his partners for years. But for some reason this just pushes these people over the edge. Why they think talent is only learned in a classroom. Seriously. Brad knows his shit like it or not. And he is talented in ways they don’t know. You don’t have to go to school to have an eye for design. You have to go to school to be accredited in it and to work in the field.
I don’t have time to search, but Brad has talked in many interviews about the designing and Angie did too. so I think they know what he is doing or not doing better then the people so upset by this.
Deven, if you are speaking to me, I’m not annoyed at all by his interest in architecture. I’m just saying that architects don’t consult with laymen on structural issues. And structural issues are in fact, the very essence of what architecture is about. Brad may be a great DESIGNER but in no way is he qualified to be an ARCHITECT.
Well, when did he SAY he was QUALIFIED to be an Architect? Just provide the links, please.
While u’re out there trying to find those non-existent links, I’ll point out that no one on this thread said Brad is Qualified to be an Architect without the requisite schooling. Just that he really LOVEs the craft.
Who needs that much schooling to make a gazillion dollars in America anyway? (Bill Gates? Kim K?) So what’s the BFD?
And… just because I’m not Leonardo Da Vinci, doesn’t mean I can’t LOVE the Mona Lisa and what it represents.
Peace out. Love u Brad.
I must have misread some of the statements people were making on this thread. I wouldn’t know what Brad Pitt says or doesn’t say about his homes. And I don’t care. I’m just saying that architects don’t “consult” with laymen. That is all, end of conversation, OVER AND OUT! 😉
People assign labels to them both and get pissed and bent out of shape over the smallest details. He said he has an interest in artchiture not that he’s an artchitect. It’s like people are saying “clap clap amuse me” in a faux english accent and the second either one steps out side the box the gallery screams “Off With Their Heads”. They can’t win with some people.
Brad and Angie annoy people by ‘breathing’. I’m so glad they are so above it ALL.
I’m sooo over these two, they are history
i think they have run their course
Thank you Sally. That’s all that I was trying to say
There are many builders of fine homes that didn’t go to architecture school. If you have the time and interest you can learn without formal education. I am in no way disparaging architects just saying not everyone needs a degree to have a skill.
You need a degree in architecture to become an architect. You also need years of on the job training.
I’m not saying.he’s an architect what I am saying is that he MAY know enough about building homes to design own home (of course as mentioned on other posts he’d have to get the plans approved by an architect).
You can design your own one story structure in CA without an architecture liscense, but you still need an architect to approve it. Think about it, these buildings have to be structurally safe. The guy is no architect.
“The guy is no architect”
Um, he never said he was!!
Jeez, people. Did you actually *ever* hear BP say he was an architect?
He probably knows more about architecture and design than an average Joe and has interesting ideas that the professionals help him translate into plans and technical drawings etc. And yes, you can design your own house without being an architect – ‘design’ being a very broad term (I’m not even going to mention interior design at this point).
I have no idea where the idea of professionals architects “consulting” Pitt came from – if anything, he probably consults them on all technical matters, and they might ‘consult’ with him in terms of vision or the general shape and feel of whatever project they’re currently working on together.
You don’t have to be an architect to enjoy architecture and make it a part of your life, (especially if you can afford it.)
The amount of bs produced about these two will never cease to amaze me.
*leaves the thread shaking her head.
Angelina Jolie to me never seemed to care much for home, car, jewelry … she does not seem to want to spend her money on this, she likes travel, planes, etc …. I think I have never seen her houses, nor when she was single, or married to Johnny Miller, Billy Bob they lived in the house that was Slash but i never saw a pic … then she bought a farm in England and lived there with Maddox? And the house in Cambogia i think this would be interesting to see how …. I find it absurd to pay dearly for a property and spend more on renovation …
A waterfall house?
In the Land of Flood and Money….
HA! *high-five*
Nice goggles, Brad.
Seriously, any pretty-boy who wears glasses like that is desperately trying to look artistic and intellectual. Full of fail.
Someone above posted the obvious.
The mutual love, honor, respect and trust that Brad and Angie have for another is palpable and obvious.
Beautiful babies, strong accomplished careers, large worldwide fanbase, prosperity, traveling all over the world, strong sex appeal, beautiful looking and good health…but most of all, they have TRUE LOVE. Love can be beautiful.
I love how these two gush over each other…even after 7 years. Very sweet.
Something like Will Smith and Jada Pinkett?
Er…ummmmm…..noooooo…..
Indeed, the Pinket-Smith Family is uber-rich, successful, pretty-looking (Willow looks like the spitting image of her daddy just like Shiloh looks like a Brad mini-me), very accomplished, huge worldwide fanbase, very much in love…EXCEPT–
Jada is incredibly short (she too came from a wild child past and has fully embraced motherhood and humanitarian causes once she chose to put her family first). I will applaud Jada on handling Will Smith’s ex-wife with finesse as for a period of years the ex was living in their house. She MANAGED that situation with precision.
I just do not see Jada on Angie’s level. Interesting comparison, though.
I wish someone would buy me a waterfall sigh….
Most likely this story is utter BS, so I won’t really comment on it.
But all I have to say is that Brad looks gorgeous in these pics. He is so sexy, yum.
