I was going to start this post by talking about a super-boring new interview with Angelina Jolie. I’ll save it for the end of the post, though, because I like this tabloid story so much more. I should point something out – I’ve been reading the tabloids regularly for years now, and ever since Kate Middleton and Prince William became engaged, the tabs have been itching to do something about Kate and Angelina Jolie. There are constantly stories about Kate wanting to meet Angelina, and Angelina wanting to meet Kate, and Kate wanting to model her charity work on Angelina’s UNHCR work and stuff. Generally, I think those stories are crap. But I still enjoy them. Anyway, OK! Magazine claims that Kate is now modeling herself after Jolie, for better or for worse:
The Duchess of Cambridge has a serious girl-crush on Hollywood’s star Angelina Jolie and royal insiders are worried. From her weight loss to her humanitarian efforts, Kate Middleton is starting to resemble Brad Pitt’s lady love.
“Kate adores how Angelina’s always so graceful and elegant and makes everything look so effortless,” a friend tells OK!.
Weight Loss
In the run-up to her April 2011 wedding, then Kate Middleton shed 16 pounds from her 5-foot-10-inch frame with a diet-and- excercise routine. She liked what she saw. “Since then, she has cut down on food even more,” a close pal tells OK!. “Kate now has the build of a supermodel and can’t believe she’s giving her hero, Angelina, a run for her money on the red carpet.”But palace insiders fret that Kate, who weighed 120 pounds at her wedding, may starve herself down to Angie’s size; the 5-foot-8 star is about 97 pounds. “Many friends think Kate looks too thin,” says the pal. “But she says she’s happy the way she is.”
Adoption
Heirs are supposed to produce… more heirs. But while Kate and Prince William hope for kids of their own, Kate’s pal notes, “She has always said how much she’d like to adopt a couple of kids, just like Angelina. She and Wills think it would be a really modern thing to do.”Humanitarian Work
The duchess hopes to mimic both William’s late mother, Princess Diana, who was known for fighting AIDS and land mines, and U.N. goodwill Ambassador Angelina, who has visited myriad strife-torn regions. “Kate intends to show the world she’s a strong, independent woman — just like Angie,” her close friend tells OK!.
[From OK! Magazine]
You know how I know this is full of crap? Because of the adoption stuff. Kate would never. She and William wouldn’t be allowed to adopt. It would never even enter Kate’s mind. Although I suspect she’s not looking forward to gaining pregnancy weight, Kate knows her duty (to have babies), and she will fulfill her obligations.
Anyway, onto the new Angelina Jolie interview. It’s mostly about In the Land of Blood and Honey – you can read it here. Here are some of the more interesting quotes:
When Jolie first wrote the script…“Brad (Pitt) saw it and said, ‘It’s not that bad, honey, you might want to send it out and see what response you get.’ I said, ‘Well, I’m not doing it without the people from the country. If people from all sides agree to make it, then we’ll do it. If they don’t, we’ll burn it.’ ”
Learning on the job: “Every day I learned so much. I mean, everything,” says the Oscar-winning actress, laughing. “I had to understand the camera, shot lists – how to make a shot list. The first time I said, ‘Action,’ nobody could hear me because I wasn’t loud enough. How to do sound, color timing. Once the girls said, ‘We need more of a scene at the top of this section.’ And I said, ‘Yeah, we do …’ And then I realized, ‘Oh, I’m the writer! Give me a half an hour, I’ll try to come up with something.’ “

In other Jolie news, a portion of the profits made from the soundtrack of ITLOFBAH (composed by Gabriel Yared) will be donated to SOS Children’s Villages, an organization that Angelina has been affiliated with for years. The money will be directed towards SOS Children’s Villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jolie said, “We are happy that a portion of the proceeds from the film’s soundtrack will support SOS Children’s Villages in Bosnia and Herzegovina to provide stable, family-based homes to children, regardless of religion, ethnicity or gender, who do not have their own families to care for them.” Go here to read more, and here to donate to SOS Children’s Villages.

Actually that Angelina interview is not new. Old. I think most of it is cut and paste. I read the part about her talking about adding to the script way before the movie premiered. I could find the original but don’t have the time. Anyway that is old; cut and paste. Which seems to be what they do now.
and yes that part of Kate is BS too. Don’t know why it is necessary to link Jolie to everyone.
Angelina is not 97 lbs. There’s just no way in hell. She is tall, and yes, quite thin…but if she were to weigh 97 lbs, she would be laying in a hospital bed.
I would love to see Angelina greet Kate and William–her ass would make them bow and it would hilarious.
Well Angie spent most of her summer in the UK if there was this great mutual friendship wouldn’t they have met then?
OK, I’ll probably be ripped apart for this comment, but anyway.
Hungarian TV (MTV1) has just aired an exclusive with Jolie, made by Aniko Navai (member of HFPA)in Hungary. I must say it was really disappointing. Navai calls her the greatest humanitarian in the world and she accepts it, explaining how it was taught to her by her Mom. What she does in the humanitarian sector is very good, but she is certainly not the greatest humanitarian in the world. Should have respectfully corrected the interviewer or something, but instead just nodded yes.
Also, she says the usual stuff about her children being constantly on the road. Like she wants them to feel at home everywhere in the world, respect other cultures (…) and other people’s homes. I find it a strange remark. Maybe the language barrier, but really how does she want them to respect other people’s homes when they don’t have one. I’m not trying to bitch about the lifestyle of those children, just don’t understand her logic here.
Disclaimer: I’m not her fan, nor a hater, and I definitely don’t care for Aniston.
CookieJar: you started me thinking … who is the greatest humanitarian in the world? Not in the history of the world, but in the here and now.
Bill Gates does really good work for a variety of causes all over the world. Bono’s (and Sting’s) stuff bears the taint of hypocrisy & can be very patronizing. Madonna’s work was doomed, and whatever her intentions were, they were not met. Jimmy Carter’s work in election monitoring and with Habitat for Humanity is great, but very low key. Sean Penn is well, Sean Penn, and can be quite off-putting and grating. Nelson Mandela and Bishop Tutu did great work in bringing down apartheid, and the Dalai Lama has laboured to free Tibet from China, and I am sure that there are more that I would be interested in hearing about. But how do you pick the greatest humanitarian in the world? Who would you pick?
Ugh. I’m gonna hope for now that something was lost in translation there because it really doesn’t seem like AJ, accepting “the best humanitarian in the world” title (the title itself being ridiculous, if you ask me – how do you measure the ‘greatness’ here). Normally Jolie seems very humble in her humanitarian efforts.
Was the interview conducted in English? (or is the interviewer native to English?) – I’m not trying to discredit it in any way, I just prefer to think (being a translator myself) that either the interviewer or the journalist used an unfortunate expression and simply wasn’t corrected in the flow of the conversation. Otherwise it’s just kinda awkward.
Hey cookie jar,
I don’t see why any sane person would want to rip you apart for your comment. It’s fair and well thought out. I too am not a hater or fan of Angelina Jolie and couldn’t give a rat’s ass about Aniston. But I’ve mentioned on other boards how Angelina, while well intentioned doesn’t really do a whole lot for human rights asides from raising awareness and funds. I know of people in the UN who think her heart is in the right place but don’t really take her or her work seriously. She’s not spending time in the bush prosecuting war criminals but gets the credit after sitting in on one trial.
Not saying she’s only in this for the PR, but I didn’t mind her efforts when she was promoting them for what they were instead of allowing people to give her credit for what full time human rights activists do on a daily basis. It’s similar to Brad’s purported “design work” at Frank Gehry’s firm.
Anyway you can imagine the vitriol that Brangeloonies spewed at me! Threatening comments towards the UN people who dared denigrate her, accusing me of being a Jen Hen! People are nuts. At the end of the day Brad and Angie are just a couple of pretty, well intentioned celebs. They’re not gods.
How is the movie doing anyway? I haven’t heard much about it. I know that rotten tomatoes is at like 48% but is it bringing in money?
Already beating Pirates of the Carribbean.
^ DEAD 😀
she looks great in red.
Her lower arm looks terrible in that last picture. I’d like both Angie and Kate to eat something. They should consider how their image affects young girls. No matter how much charity work they do, they are still doing more harm than good for others if they fail to see that.
Other than that, I like them both. Love Angie for her adoptions, particularly and look forward to hearing what charities Kate will choose to be patron of.
I would love for her to walk away with some awards this season!
I’m gonna have a doughnut, is all I have to say.
And maybe coffee.
The best thing about Angelina Jolie is that she is married to an architect consultant.
Still going on about the architect bullshit for the previous thread. Talk about a dog with a bone. SMH.
Lol!
Love her!!!
I’m pretty sure I read the “If they don’t, we’ll burn it.” story on this site before…hmmm.
That’s a pretty smart thing to do, actually. If you keep a script that you or other people hate, then you risk someone getting their hands on it and releasing it. Heck, if someone gets their hands on it when the writer of the script has passed away, they could make the movie.
Such a gorgeous looking woman.
flawless bitc queen angelina
Are you sure that Waity isn’t actually modelling herself after Jennifer Aniston?
gorgeous, intelligent woman,(angelina) you can’t really blame kate, angelina is something to behold, smart girl. changing my posting name to above, to fit in with the rest.
