Jaime Pressly and fiance are “taking a break”

“My Name is Earl” star Jaime Pressly confirmed that she and fiance Eric Cubiche have split. The pair have been engaged for two years and have a son, 18-month-old Dezi. Jaime, who plays the saucy, loudmouthed trailer park queen Joy on the NBC comedy, and Eric were “close friends” for 9 years before they started dating, and were together for a year before getting engaged. While details aren’t clear, it seems that the couple were having some problems and have put the romance on hiatus.

My Name Is Earl star Jaime Pressly, 31, and DJ beau Eric Cubiche, 34, who have been engaged for two years- have split.

“They hit a rough patch and decided to take a break,” a source told the new issue of Us Weekly.

The pair, who have a son, Dezi, 18 months, haven’t ruled out reconciliation.

“They still love each other, and Dezi is their world, but they feel this is best right now.”

It’s sad for the couple and their baby – but it sounds like both Jaime and Eric are handling this with maturity. It’s obvious they still care for each other. Hopefully they can work it out. Usually, when two people start out as friends, it’s a better relationship – but who knows anymore what makes some romances work out while others fail.

Of course they split. These Hollywood engagements are such fluff! Let’s see, there’s Jamie and Eric, Isla Fisher and Sasha Baron Cohen (who have been engaged FOREVER!), Naomi Watts and Liev Schrieber, Brooke Burke and David Charvet, just to name a few. As my mother always said, “get off the pot or _________!” Somehow these stars think that an engagement will “legitimize” the birth of their out-of-wedlock child. All it does is make them look ridiculous.

  2. WTF?!?! says:

Why can’t anyone in Hollywood seem to marry BEFORE they have children? I’m no prude, but the Affleck-Garner, Alba-and-hubby scenario is a rarity.
The kids deserve the legal protections and stability of having two people who are committed beyond sound bites.

  3. Kaiser says:

Sad. I really like her – I hope they continue to behave with maturity.

@Ellen S – So it’d be better if they got married, for the sake of their out-of-wedlock children, and then split up anyway, just to keep people like you happy? 🙄

  5. Ellen Smith says:

No, it wouldn’t be better. It would just be better to never say they are engaged, when it is all “hype” so that their actions seem more in line with what their fans want from them – that fairy-tale ending that we both know never materializes.

  6. Mrs. B says:

I agree w/ the whole absurdity of the children out-of-wedlock thing. It is the same way in Europe, and when I ask people about this, they say that they don’t want to make the commitment of marriage until they are certain that they want to stay together. Well, what about the lifetime commitment of having a child with someone? To me that is a much more serious commitment. They should try getting married FIRST, then decide whether or not to bring a child into the relationship.

  7. Blunted says:

I think that it is both narrow minded and archaic to believe that marriage should necessarily precede procreation. What exactly is so wrong with someone being born out of of wedlock? Especially given that a marriage contract is dissolved more than 50% of the time anyways… I just don’t get it.

  8. Hanna says:

While I agree it’s a bit ridiculous to get engaged if you don’t plan to get married I don’t agree that it’s necessary to get married just because you’ve got kids. For me marriage is a religious institution and I’m not religious – marriage means nothing to me. This does, however, not mean that I’m not committed to my family and that my children wouldn’t have the same stability as in a family where the parents are married. For me the major commitment comes from having children together – when you decide on that, that’s when you have decided to be committed to the other person. I really respect those who feel a need to get married, but I think it’s a bit narrow minded to think that just because some couples remain unmarried they’re not as committed as married couples.

I wanna see the baby! I bet he’s a cutie. Sad that they’re seperating, though.

Geronimo hits it outta the park again!
Blunted says it more eloquently than i would have.
    Hanna, thank-you!
I have always liked Jaime, shes funny and sassy. I aalways thought she was a very ‘real’ person. Her dignified handling of this has just comfirmed that for me. I wish them both all the best.

Is Jaime Pressly leaving the show? sure sounded like it last night. She’s the finniest one on the show and her husband.
