Katy Perry somehow keeps herself in the news at all moments, which says a lot about the people behind this so-called pop phenomenon. Just yesterday, there was the faux controversy about an unlikely diss of Beyonce and Shakira, and Katy would like everyone to know that she did not respect anyone at all. At least, I think that’s what she’s saying by tweeting, “F#^k all y’all (press) dat thinks I dissed anyone, puhlez. Get a life, cuz it’s not mine! #hoodratcominout. If ya ears are filled with wax it’s time to get a cleanse boo. Anywayz . . . (steps off box).” It’s hard to tell though. Katy might not even know what the hell she’s talking about and was probably “partying” while typing out random verbiage.
But in slightly more exciting news, Katy’s new video has premiered for “Part of Me,” which is the song that she sang at the Grammys and may or may not be about Russell Brand. Officially, Katy insists that the song has nothing to do with Russell and was actually written years ago. However, I think a strong case can be made that this video has a lot to do with how she feels about her failed marriage.
In the video, Katy sees her boyfriend making moves on other women while he’s at work. She’s such a terrible actress. Basically, we’ve got Katy throwing down her locket, slapping her boyfriend, fake crying, and heading into a gasoline bathroom to chop off her hair, tape down her massive rack, and then … enlist in the Marines. Yes, it’s entirely ridiculous:
Crikey. She’s crawling around in the desert, grimacing through knee-deep mud, hoisting her fellow troops over her shoulder, and tackling people underwater. It would be easy to label Katy’s cotton candy take on the armed forces as disrespectful, but it’s just not worth it to go there because she’s so inconsequential. I will say that Katy looks a lot better than usual with barely any makeup in these training and combat scenes, which was probably a huge deal to her since primping is obviously her security blanket. At the end of the video, she does get to break out the face paint, which probably came as quite a relief.
Moving onto even more Katy news, we discussed yesterday how she was seen boarding a Eurostar with Baptiste Giabiconi, who is her rumored model love interest. Now Celebuzz has some photos of the two enjoying a dinner date aboard the train with an onlooker adding, “They very much looked like a couple.” Now here are some photos of Katy heading to a Parisian nightclub where she allegedly met up with Baptiste, and the two are said to have left in separate cars that were part of Katy’s entourage. Sounds like a fling might be in the works, no?
Look at how severely Katy’s hair is pulled up in an extreme Croydon facelift style. It looks so painful. Don’t even get me started with the crimpy pouf on top of her head.

1. I absolutely HATE that hairstyle. When will these celeb women realize that it is NOT flattering and (especially with blue hair) makes you look like one of those troll dolls from the 90s?
2. She’s actually quite beautiful without her face full of stage makeup. I used to feel bad for her when she would talk about her acne issues, but at some point someone needs to clue her in to the fact that her face needs to BREATHE under all that paint she slathers on daily.
3. Her body is outrageous… would kill for it
so many things about this woman annoys me, suprisingly the music video is not one of them, it’s something I’d expect out of her..
well she looks better dressed as a marine than she does in that weird blue outfit-thingie!
At first glance, she looks like a younger Sean Penn.
The first time I heard the song, I thought it was a mess. I also can’t take her video seriously, she might’ve been going for badass but it wasn’t believable.
And yet, lamentably, I foresee this being on heavy rotation in radio stations and MTV. XP
that is something I also don’t understand! The song is horrible and it is already number 1…people are that easily influenced.
More like payola.
Bee is correct. Her label had these “parties” for radio station managers before the cd came out. They definitely got a return on their investment, as all of her songs have been played to death on the radio.
Oh wow, when I first saw the top picture, I thought it was Elijah Wood.
Exactly! She looks nice without all the makeup and shorter dark hair. The song is catchy.
That’s EXACTLY what I thought.
I think KP’s got a bit too much “try” going on. Her blue hair, quirky outfits feel too strategic to be real.
I totally thought Elijah Wood!!
HOLY CRAP I was just about to comment the exact same thing bahaha
..elijah wood does look sorta feminine but I think that comment is more insulting to elijah than katy!
Yes! My thoughts exactly!
As a military veteran and a woman currently married to a military man, I am not offended by this. And Asli? I went to bootcamp with half a dozen girls that did indeed join because of a bad relationship. To each her own. I find Katy Perry’s video to be similar to what those girls in bootcamp said: They found a part of themselves that belonged to them alone. The military made them stronger, more self-assured, and gave them a sense of direction. Granted I am a Katy Perry fan, but I only find the binding of the boobies weird. There is no disrespect here.
**Please note the military isn’t for everyone. This isn’t a recruitment post. Just my own experiences. Some people join just to get a decent meal.
I agree. I’m an Air Force Veteran and I related to her video (though I’m not a fan of the song, I do get the sentiment). I learned confidence and a sense of ability that I never imagined. That source of strength is something that I can always pull from and know that I can overcome everyday hurdles based on my military experience (which was definitely more challenging than everyday issues and even breakups).
The message is that you can decide to do something with your life that involves only your effort and merits. If you do well, it’s a reflection of nobody else but yourself. Personal responsibility is huge. And from personal experience, as an added perk…there is really not a better way to meet a great guy with a sense of duty and honor than joining the military. My husband is amaze-balls! 😉
@Jess: Very well said. 🙂 I enlisted in the Army on a whim when I was 18 and in college. I looked around one day and just felt…directionless. I didn’t enlist because of a failed relationship (altho as others have mentioned other people do–males and females), but I did feel the need to accomplish something and discover what I was really made of. Nearly 15 years later I’m primarily a civilian (I’m still in the National Guard), but I use my military experience everyday. It’s an integral part of who I am, and I’m proud of that. I didn’t watch the video (I’m at work), but I’m not offended at all. I find Katy Perry to be useless but also harmless.
Thank you for sharing your story; I thought I would be alone on this one. I posted after you, about how many women I knew joined due to bad relationships. When I did catch up with them later on Facebook – of course – they all sang the same song; the decision was worth it. It took their minds off their own heartache and focused it elsewhere and gave them a new perspective.
The recruitment for the armed forces is very strong. I was at that door once but could not open it because I could not get a clear answer of what I would be fighting for.
I’m a veteran, went to Iraq even (where I met my husband; he is still in), and I am not offended either. Simply because I find Katy Perry totally ridiculous. One thing I will say though is that her bun reminds me of the way I had to wear my hair. Bun in every damn day. LOL. You can’t pull it that tight without getting headaches and baby hair breakage at your temples.
Oh, and I joined for the college money (pre 9/11). AND I AM GONNA US EVERY SINGLE LAST CENT OF THAT SHIT!! HAHAHAHA!! i win.
He is a joke in France, nobody takes him seriously because he always says really really stupid things
She looks fantastic but a ridiculous storyline.
I didn’t hate it as much as I hated Rihanna’s militaristic video for “hard.” That is degrading.
I seriously felt like I was watching a commercial or some sort of propaganda to join the marines, however.
Did you see RiRi’s “We fell in love in a Hopeless Place”. It ruined the entire song for me. I cannot listen to it anymore; that’s how bad the video is.
She is basically endorsing using drugs;RiRi that is.
The US Army is a curious PR machine. There will be at least a few girls who attempt to enlist because Katy makes it looks cool and heroic. Ridiculous. Join the Army because you believe in what your country is doing, not for some GI-Jane/Private Benjamin delusions. I have a few friends who have served in Afghanistan…they believe in what they do but some of the outcomes and repurcussions and their experiences have been traumatic for them. Katy prancing about pretending to be in combat is foolish.
It reminds me of the movie, “Top Gun.” That movie was intentionally created to promote joining the military, air force, etc etc and it worked. They saw a huge increase of people enlisting right after that movie came out. It sort of glamorized that lifestyle and made it appeal to those it may have normally not appealed to. So yes, everything, even music videos are created to condition the masses to feel a certain way about something, even a Katy Perry song.
That’s also what I thought.
This video is just a huge PR for the Army. Like Top Gun.
I don’t think working in the Army is a glamour thing.
If only she took the scissors to that ridiculous blue hair like she did in the video…
Can he speak anglais? if not how do they communicate? Reminds me of Elizabetha Canalis, it was only during DWTS that i was like woah she barely speaks english. Its not a slam or anything…
I doubt he does and he has a huge south accent so he’d be difficult to understand .It’s really vulgar ( I’m from the south too and I don’t speak like him at all)
I cannot even tell everyone here how many women I know DID enlist in the army/navy/coast guard/marines, etc. because of men in their lives: failed relationships. The recruiting tools they use in the south are exponential. I am guessing it is even more pronounced in the mid-West.
I do not know how many of you remember Private Benjamin with Goldie Hawn but it is not far from the truth of the recruiting tactics.
I was at that door once, not because of a guy but because I thought it would be a good idea to serve my country. The only reason I did not, was because I was not given a solid reason of what I was fighting for. Oil or Freedom?!
Forget, KP’s acting sucks.
1) I liked that the video showed how hard is to be in the army, and how strong and brave the marines are (in real life of course)
2) I hate the implication that women only join the army because their boyfriends cheated on them. That disrespects every patriotic women out there.
3) she looks WAY better without all that makeup
It’s not really stating that all women join because of guy problems. I will guarantee that they join during a crossroads in life, for whatever reason. The segment of the population who joins the military is largely poor, without a clear sense of direction and few opportunities. They see it as an honorable way to find independence. If they survive it and are suited for the military life beyond 4-6 years, they can make it a good career and make promotions that are uncommon in the private sector nowadays.
With some sacrifice and a little luck, it can be a good life. For others it is the ultimate sacrifice. And politically, we accept that we are pawns in rich men’s wars. Despite that, the camaraderie and pride we share in serving (it’s not all bad) is worth it.
I loved the feeling of being in that uniform and being held at a higher standard than civilians. Ultimately, you have to realize that those in the military are regular people who push themselves (and most succeed) to perform at a higher standard.
I am using my GI Bill and getting a Bachelor’s in Science to be a Nutritionist. So my service is paying me back, which I am thankful for. I would never have had the opportunity otherwise.
I guess I never considered the fact that many do join at a crossroads in their lives. What you say makes perfect sense.
That’s awesome that you are going to college. Good for you! 🙂
“The segment of the population who joins the military is largely poor ”
Jess is correct. Many of those who join the enlisted ranks (and officer ranks in some cases) come from lower class or middle class families. My father joined the Navy to escape poverty and as a means to a better life. He was able to go to college after retiring from the Navy.
My husband came from a poor family and joined the Air
Force after a year of college. He was burned out mentally and financially, trying to work and study full time. He came from a small town and the USAF allowed him to see the world and go to college
I still think that the Baptiste lovestory was written by a graduate from the school of Swifty’s Sentimental Shenanigans. This heavily edited fluff only exists for press and image reasons.
That blue pouf on her head looks exactly like something I scrub my dishes with!
I’ve never been compelled to call a woman a douche-bag before. That’s all changed.
I’d love to put her for half a year on the war front and see after that what she has to say about things……
Have you? I have and I see nothing wrong with this video.
Yeahhhhh, my husband’s platoon was part of this video. It was POURING there the day they did it. She didn’t interact at all with the Marines, was under an umbrella the whole time, and didn’t even thank them for coming out. They stood in the pouring rain after hours (because they were ordered to) when they could have been warm and at home with their loved ones. Beyotch.
This makes me sick, but is typical behavior for many “celebrities”
That is HORRIBLE!!!! That makes me so mad! I didn’t even know they would use real Marines for this kind of thing. I can’t believe she didn’t even thank them (thanking your extended cast and crew is part of the wrapping process on most videos and the like). Grrrrr.
This just confirms my already-decidedly low opinion of her.
How totally and completely disrespectful to those men and women who put their asses on the line EVERY DAY so she can enjoy the freedom to be a graceless, classless bitch.
Why am I not surprised? Katy Perry seems vapid, insecure, and narcissistic. The least she could have done is thank them for being in her video, although I bet she thinks they should thank her for the honor. It would have been really nice of her to sing a song or two for them (what am I talking about sing? I mean lip sync.)
Mole!
Can you picture Katy Perry in Iraq ? Yeah, me neither.
She has pretty eye color and that is the only positive thing I have to say about her. off to do chores.
Funny, I scrolled down to say the same thing, but then I saw @Erin’s comment about how gracelessly she treated the Marines. Absolutely no respect left for KP.
I didn’t join because a guy cheated (though he did) I joined to prove I could finish something. I was in an abusive relationship, moved back home and then joined roughly a year later. I wanted out of the small town I grew up in and it was a no turning back move that I needed. I spent 10 yrs in, met my now husband and have a wonderful son. That guy wasn’t the reason I joined but his actions and what they did to me did.
*This all being said and I have not watched the actual video yet. I can promise one thing though, nothing that went on in basic training with 56 other females is movie worthy. In fact, the only movie/video I could see the reality of BMT is a horror film.
Congrats to you, and thank you for your service!
does KP realize that Private Benjamin was a funny movie when it came out . . . over 30 years ago (and starring a much better actress than she)?
i remain uninterested. *yawn*
Well who knows how many women will be joining the marines after watching that video, I liked it!
I don’t like Katy Perry; I don’t listen to her music, nor will I click “play” on that video. If one of her songs comes on the radio, I change the station.
I’m simply writing as an Officer’s daughter (USMC, Retired) to thank those who have served and continue to serve in our military.
Offensive. My lifelong best friend is a solider in the Army, her younger brother is career Navy – and THEY inspire me. I usually like her music (I’m a sucker for bad pop, I know) and DO like this song but the video is just repulsive.
Going into the military is no longer “cool”. Our military are tired, worn-out and uninspired. They dont even know why they are in the middle east, because there is NO REASON why we are there anymore.
This is trickery and crap to get decent women to enlist into a hell of nonsense and immoral blood shed.
As the proud daughter of a Navy Chief (rest his Honorable soul), my father would THROW UP in disgust over what our military is doing on foreign soil.
How DARE she use our PTSD ridden, manipulated, frustrated, bewildered & HONEST Marines to collect her filthy check.
I loathe this chick now. She just lost a fan.
TOTALLY B O R I N G
yah boring .. i feel like a valium and i never take a valium
re: her tweet
Is she trying to be “street” or something? Who is she trying to fool??
She looks sad. Like she’s just not enjoying life. I don’t care for her, and I especially don’t like her using the military to pimp her new song. I wish they had put the kabosh on that. Our military women and men deserve better than the likes of Katy Perry.
Her songs are funny, but is too little to make her a star. We give too much interest to these people.
i hate how she talked all this sh*t about britney about product placement in her “hold it against me” vid when she (as well as tons of other “singers”) have used product placement to help pay for vids. see my point at the 2:23 mark.
I don’t know if it is offensive, but I have been honestly moved by this song and even moreso now that I’ve seen the video. It spoke to me as a woman who has had to go to extremes to truly get over a break-up and find myself again through physical and mental challenges. I heart KP now and never have before, so I think that says something.
I’ve seen the video, and the whole time I couldn’t believe how much it looked like a campaign for the military. I bet the marines funded the whole video. SIGH.
I feel like it’s disrespectful to the REAL hard working military.. and the portrayal might give the wrong impression to young viewers of what the army is all about..
“yvan eht nioj”
“yvan eht nioj”
It’s brainwash y’all!
In the first photo I thought it was Frodo! :O
I thought it was a joke, but then realized it wasn’t.
I youtubed voiced that care, that was suggested by a friend, it was awesome!
why can’t they do that again?
LOL @ katy perry as a soldier.
