This is kind of a non-story, but CB and I were talking about it, and I do find it fascinating. Last November, Anne Hathaway got engaged to her boyfriend of three years, Adam Shulman. There were of course some rumors that Anne might have been fooling around on Adam at some point (coughcoughChristianBalecough), but for the most part, Anne and Adam seemed happy together, and Adam seems like a steady, no-drama influence on Anne after her disastrous relationship with con artist Raffaello Follieri. So Anne and Adam got engaged in November, and they just threw themselves an engagement party last month. But guess when their wedding date is? October… 2013!!
Anne Hathaway is no ordinary bride-to-be! Though she won’t walk down the aisle until October 2013, the actress and her fiance Adam Shulman celebrated their love at an engagement party in February. Held in a New York City bookstore, Hathaway opted for unexpected details, like serving vegan fare and tucking her favorite flowers, ranunculus and anemones, inside bird-shaped vases.
“Everything so was fun, just like Annie,” a pal tells the current issue of Us Weekly (out now).
Hathaway’s big day will be filled with equally playful touches. The Devil Wears Prada actress, 29, told one friend she wants cupcakes, while another pal reveals she has selected a venue in upstate New York: “But they’re keeping it a secret until right before!”
Hathaway dated Shulman, 31, for three years before he proposed with a 6-carat, $150,000 ring from Kwiat. “We hit it off immediately, but it took us a pretty long time to get together,” Hathaway has said.

Doesn’t this seem like an especially long engagement? They’re waiting nearly two years from the proposal to the wedding. Sure, some people do that. Some people just stay “engaged” for years and years. Some people like to really take the time to plan out an elaborate wedding. So don’t even yell at me and tell me that I’m an idiot for suggesting that “two years” is a long time to wait. I get it. Every couple is different. Anne and Adam have every right to set their wedding date whenever they want. But I just think it’s weird. My thought was that the “average couple” probably sets the date 12-14 months from the proposal, but some people say the average is more like 18 months.
So… I guess at the end of the day, I kind of wonder if something is going to happen and Anne ends up canceling the wedding. It’s 19 months away! That’s a long time for Anne to screw around on Adam, you know? You’d think that Adam would want to lock this down sooner.

I love her sunglasses in the last 2 pictures!
Meh on the engagement. Many of my friends have 2 year engagements, but we are also in our mid 20s with entry level jobs…not millionaire actresses.
Annie (not) getting married.
She will fall madly in love with someone else and ditch this dude imo.
Then again, maybe they’re planning it to coincide with an Oscar push for that Judy Garland pic?
That’s actually a really good theory.
I agree. I don’t think she’s really in love with him the way she wants to be. I think she’s settling honestly. But whatever makes her happy.
Nothing wrong with a long engagement. It doesn’t ensure a successful marriage either way. In fact it is better to have a long engagement and cancel if there are doubts or circumstances that come up during that time rather than marry quickly and end up regretting it. I just hope that they are both ready for marriage and will build a lasting union.
Maybe it’s based in her fling schedule? Don’t know. Seems long to me too, but only because most people I know only wait as long as it takes to book their desired venue (6-14 mos.).
Edit: film not fling! But funny just the same considering the Bale reference. Hahaha
I would love it if Anne had a fling schedule.
That made me snort-laugh!
Does she have a lot of projects lined up? Maybe they’re planning around her film schedule.
Edit: Nanz and I must have been typing at the same time. 🙂
Great minds…
long engagements aren’t uncommon nor is living together a long period of time before marriage. Newman & Woodward for example lived together for 18 months before they were married
omg yes.
Yup you are right. This is a non-story.
Been dating my fiance for 5 years, will be engaged until Dec 2014.
WHY? Money. And timing. I’m sure Anne has movies/etc.
“Marry in haste, regret at leisure.”
I don’t see anything wrong with a long engagement.
Nothing wrong with what she is doing. Why rush into a marriage? Too many people make that mistake.
My engagement was something like 20 months.
gross. I’m sure some people will disagree with me, but Christian Bale? Oh honey.
Well, I don’t disagree – Christian Bale is gross in every possible way.
what does he actually do???
does he have a job, he always seems to be everywhere with her but i havent heard about him having a job
I know of this couple that have been living together for around 6 years now, and they still havent gotten married.
Recently they have been threatening marriage due to the influence of others. The reason they were waiting for marriage has to do with a political statement one of them made years ago.
I think that is more weird than being engaged for two years, but each to their own.
So you know of the Jolie-Pitts too. Small world.
She probably has a lot going on, and will have to do a lot of promotion and travel for the Batman movie, so they’re probably taking their time.
Or maybe they’re just putting the 10/13 date out there to keep the media off their trail and will get married at some other point. It’s a “friend” in US Weekly, not exactly a direct quote, right?
I checked her IMDB page and at the moment she is filming Les Miserables which has rumors that it’s going to be a big production so perhaps she wants to finish filming the movie and then focus on the wedding?! This seems pretty legit to me.
On a side note, she better not have hooked up with my future ex-husband.
Normades is probably correct.
Perhaps the Judy Garland film is finally going to go through.
It’s probably for the best . She’s a smart girl but she chooses terrible men !
Co-sign! Exactly my first thought.
Wow, I didn’t even know she was engaged.
I’m guessing because she’s a busy woman? Right now she’s filming Les Mis..then there will be promotional work for The Dark Knight Rises, plus then she will probably start filming another upcoming movie, then promotional work for Les Mis…etc etc.
That’s probably the only down time she has.
Good for her to wait! My Husband & I waited for 6 years~when we first got together his rule was that we couldn’t get married until AFTER we had been together longer than any of our previous relationships. A very wise decision.
He’s a little Gosling-esque in that last picture. Mama like.
Hey…it said my comment didn’t post, so I tried again, like, 5 times. Hopefully, they won’t all appear. :/
Long engagement-er right here!
Was proposed to in March of 2010 and am having the wedding in August of 2012. Ours was more ‘I’m too lazy to plan a wedding and can’t decide what I want’ rather than ‘I am going to see how long we can last before I start planning’.
Honestly, it’s kind of a non-issue outside of the thousands I’ll soon have to part with.
I don’t know why anyone would want to f*** her. She is so pasty.
I would! She’s gorge. From the right angle. In the right light. Not everyone has to be a cocoa bean.
I had a long engagement as well. Engaged 2008 got married in 2010. if the love is true it will still be true whenever they decide to wed.
He looks really boring. She needs someone with a spark. Kind of like when she was in that spy movie with The Office guy lol.
She is settling for sure. Homey looks all hipster wanna be and shit. Kinda pussified looking too. Girl could take him out with a queef.
I remember reading somewhere that she was waiting to grow her hair out for her wedding. Which makes sense. She has gorgeous hair.
As for the alleged “Bale affair?” If it were real, it would be all over the magazines. The fact that only Lainey had it — and even then, it talked about how Anne “felt” and Bale “felt” (how the hell does SHE know?) — makes it illegitimate.
Sources, people. First, you need to know them, second, it can’t just be on one place. Sorry, but not sorry, Lainey. I call BS.
I guess that 13 turned into a 12 …
