Lindsay Lohan has been seen out in at least two different fur coats during her recent European vacation. Anti-fur activists are everywhere and they’re not taking kindly to her blatant disregard for the plight of animals exploited by the fur industry. Lohan was doused with flour last night while heading to a Paris club where her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, was scheduled to DJ. Unfortunately she was able to dust off her black fur stole and pose normally on the red carpet afterwards.
U.S. actress Lindsay Lohan was pelted with a flour bomb upon arrival at a Paris nightclub wearing a fur stole.
Animal rights activists showered the 22-year-old actress with flour when she went to the VIP Room Theater in the early hours of Saturday with her friend, disc jockey Samantha Ronson.
The owner of the nightclub helped Lohan dust off her blue sequined dress and black stole before she posed on the red carpet.
Ronson went on to spin tracks for a crowd that included reggae rapper Shaggy and “I Kissed a Girl” singer Katy Perry.
Earlier this year People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals named Lohan to its list of the “Worst-Dressed” Celebrities of 2008, citing the actress and others for wearing furs, snakeskin and other apparel made from animals.

The only thing lacking in this story are the photos to back it up. It would be priceless to see a picture of a white-faced Lohan looking shocked, a lone cigarette hanging out of her gaping mouth, mascara trailing down her cheeks as she sobs, trying to make sense of how she became a target. As it is, she looked pretty put together and unfazed on the red carpet afterwards. She probably welcomes the attention from people protesting her.

Flour doesn’t dust off THAT easily… makes me wonder if this is true. There would be residue around the sequins and a layer of dust in her hair that won’t come out without a washing. I, somehow, doubt this one. WISH it were true, but doubt it. Next time PETA, use eggs AND flour or water and flour. Makes a lasting impression 🙂

I love my furs and would give somebody a good case of whoop ass if my garments were damaged. Fur is nice if you can afford it…those that can’t always have snarky comments. I don’t wear fur and I don’t support killing animals for their fur. But peta needs to respect the fact that some people do wear fur and they should pay for any garments that their protests ruin. They have no right to throw paint on to some one just because they are wearing something they don’t like. Live and let live peta! I don’t condone wearing fur, but how are we to know it isn’t fake? I do not like real fur, and am disgusted with how its made let alone the number of animals needed for each garment, but if someone else chooses to wear it, that’s their choice. I, too, wonder how people can tell whether it’s fake or not because I have some gorgeous fake fur coats. They are so soft, and the patterns are beautiful – just like the real thing, but without the torture and murder.

I hardly see how assaulting someone is a very mature or cohesive way of getting your point across. I don’t wear fur or support it, but at the same time I’m not going to ram my point of view down another person’s throat. If you don’t like something, fine. You’re entitled to that. Yah, the woman who through the flower at LiLo looked like an attention-starved freak — no different than LiLo herself. Animal rights extremists have serious issues that go well beyond loving animals. I hate PeTA and consider it a terrorist organization (because of it’s ties to groups like ALF and ELF, which aim to seriously injure people).
I mean, if you think about it, why were the extremists even there in the first place? It’s not like they knew with 100% certainty that Linds was going to show up in fur. They were obviously there hoping a celeb would show up in fur, armed with bags of flour, hoping to get some attention.

Just a thought, but it may be that damages when blood is thrown are much higher and PETA has likely had to pay them. Also, anymore, blood is fraught with medical problems, even animal blood, so it may be they’ve had to rethink this approach.

While I absolutely agree that the situation in most fur farms is absolutely inacceptable (although there are exceptions, there ARE farms where the animals are held in a dignified way AND are also killed painlessly) I just don’t think that attacking strangers is the answer. It’s not going to solve anything. Plus all animal species take care of themselves first. So as long as human children are starving worldwide, I’d say putting animal rights over human rights is pure luxury for the well brought up, middle class kids in developped, democratic states who don’t have to worry about whether or not they will have dinner on the table.
Again, I have to point out that there is no reason whatsoever to treat animals with cruelty. But then again, I don’t see any reason for treating humans with cruelty either.
PETA is a terrorist group as far as I am concerned. They actually have put far more animals to death than they have saved. I don’t wear fur but I have never ever endorsed their way of trying to stop people from wearing it. PETA years ago took it upon themselves to see that a private owner of exotic animals in the midwest have them taken away from him. The animals were well cared for, however a tiger ended up claiming the arm of a neighbor child who got into it’s cage. Anyway PETA was instrumental in not only having the man lose his animals but also they encouraged the exotics to be PUT TO DEATH because they said they could not be released into the wild nor should they be given to zoos, as that was cruel. I cannot recall what happened to the animals as the courts got involved, but I do know PETA advocated their deaths instead of placing them elsewhere. Yeah, they save animals, my ass, they are worse than animals with their guerilla tactics. My opinion only.

Ran- I think any way is better than the methods used by PETA. Intelligent people know what right from wrong is, as far as getting the message out, well other intelligent people SHOULD understand the message, if they don’t, then so much for intelligence. Also, you cannot force those without the intelligence to have a social conscience to acquire one and understand a message you are trying to convey. Those that resist education choose to remain ignorant.

I think one of the answers for those of us that eat meat is to make our point clear with our dollars. If you consider that the eating of meat and wearing leather costs an animal of its life, we should recognize and respect that and be willing to pay more for it. Also, the more we pay for it, chances are the less we will eat.
Buying from local, organic butchers is a good place to start. Also, refuse to buy leather anything that uses leather from India and China. Support your local animal shelters and encourage more local government funding for them to slow down and hopefully stop the kill policy most of them have. Animals are often euthanized because of overcrowding.
Canada’s history was built on the fur trade, but there’s simply no reason to wear fur anymore for most other than for reasons of vanity and ostentation. That being said, people are still buying it so it is an industry and one that can’t be gotten rid of until there’s some other solution for how fur farmers can provide themselves with income.
PETA is functionally and socially malicious (not ignorant, they know what they’re doing and what they’re asking for. They’d rather see people suffer instead of animals)who do not advance the welfare of animals in the least.

Fur was not and is not vital to the cultures of all Native American tribes, I will agree there. My people made our clothing out of beaten cedar, not animal hides. But a $10,000 mink coat can’t even be compared to a Buffalo Robe of the Plains Indians. There was no American Indian cultural relevance in Lindsay Lohan’s fur coat, or any other silver fox, mink, ermine, etc show of extravagance. It’s nothing more than fashion for show and self importance, not culture or warmth, unless you’re an eskimo, or possibly, live in outer Siberia.
Edit due to Bodhi’s comment… I do, however, understand the sentimental value of inherited fur. They came from a time when people were not aware of how those coats came about and passing them down in the family is no crime. I stand by the opinion that a NEWLY purchased fur is a crime, though.

Amazingly, PETA allows some celebrities to wear fur, but condemns other celebrities who do. PETA’s actually quite inconsistent as far as celeb-bashing is concerned.
If a celebrity is openly vegetarian but wears fur, they won’t harass them near as much as celebrities who openly practice omnivorism and wear fur. Therefore, if you don’t eat meat, PETA will pretend to not notice if you consume fur or leather products.
