I hate you for making me look at Kellan Lutz photos. They are, in a very douche-chill way, simply irresistible. I don’t even really know who he is but every time you link his photos, I just have to look. It’s like a disease!

  2. paola says:

My brother went to the Olympics in Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and trust me………..that is nothing! me and my parents were screaming so much, biting nails, covering our eyes, cried and laughed. Crazy experience……

    • Esmom says:

Wow, cool. I always think if the families feel like that imagine how the competitor feels. Normal anxiety x 1000.

      • paola says:

the athletes are used to be under the limelight.. my brother is a wrestler, competing for the italian team, and he has been world champion, european champion, 17 years in a row italian champion and he is so very used to the tension and the pressure. But we are not! Mu mum always fears that he might get hurt (he came back from the last tournament with 3 broken ribs.. thank you team USA!) and my dad always goes voiceless even if he’s watching it on tv!! It’s crazy.. Now my brother is 36 and he has retired after this olympic qualifications and he was so so very happy! he said now he can start living his life! the fact is that all these athtletes start competing when they are very young and they can never really enjoy life until their duties are over! and these girls from gymnastic reach their peak when they’re 16-17 years old…crazy lives they have,

  3. marie says:

Ha, I hit rewind just to watch Aly’s parents again-so awesome!

And I felt really bad for Wieber, it’s a stupid rule that only 2 from every team can go. It should be about the best gymnasts, no matter how many are on the same team.

    • marigold says:

That rule is ridiculous and Bela Karolyi has it right-it means we are not watching the best of the best when the all around competition starts. It’s crap.

    • anniecc says:

      Oops, double post.

    • anniecc says:

I disagree. Imagine how boring the competition would be if it was the same handful of countries competing in the final every time. It would also stifle the development of the sport internationally.

      • marigold says:

And yet the Yankees have an incredibly huge fan base even though they have 27 World Series rings. I want to see the best of the best, not the best of the just okay competitors from other countries. No other sport in the Olympics does this. In swimming, the people with the best times qualify, no matter where they are from. If that means 8 Americans compete in the 400, then so be it. There’s no reason it shouldn’t be the same in gymnastics.

      • LucyOriginal says:

@anniecc: I agree with you! I don’t know now, but rhythmic gymnastics used to have this rule as well. I think is fair because in the past some referees could be biased towards athletes from countries (states, local competitions) that holds the tradition to win. When I used to compete r. gymnastics, many many times the not “known team” lost because they would give a higher score to the other team out of “tradition”, not because they really deserved it and it was a State competition.

      • Aubra says:

Totally agree! It makes sense that they only allow two from each country. I can see SNL getting some milage out of this one! LMAO And she kind of reminds me of when Kathy Griffin talks about her mother and boxed wine screaming TIP IIIIT!!

    • apsutter says:

I’m sick of everyone bitching about this rule. The one rule that should be changed is that if a country can’t qualify a team only 1 gymnast from that country can go. Now that is an unfair rule. All the girls from non-gymnastic countries would kill for the access to the equipment, coaches, and gyms that the big four have. I guarantee if it had been Aly in Jordan’s place no one would be bitching like this. Yea it sucks that Jordy wont get to compete in the AA but I’d rather see girls from countries that dont typically qualify athletes to the games.

      • marie says:

umm, yeah I’d still complain if it was Aly in Jordyn’s spot. I would still prefer to see the best of the best..

  4. the original bellaluna says:

Any parent who’s ever watched their child dance/compete/whatever knows exactly what these parents are going through. On a smaller scale, yes, but still…

And that really sucks for the other girl.

I’m really not liking NBC’s coverage for this Olympics. It sucks. The delays are ridiculous, and ratings are no excuse. We already know what happened, so watching has become superfluous. (I still haven’t made it through the 4-and-a-half hour-long Opening Ceremony!!)

    • Mar says:

Agree with your first comment. I have a prima ballerina in my family and you should see her mom in the audience when she performs.

      • badrockandroll says:

Of all the media reports criticizing the opening ceremonies, why on earth would you link to one that condemns it for not being white enough? And then you criticize a bunch of young girls who happen to be world class athletes, because they are not pretty enough for you.

    • Samantha says:

This is something tennis fans have known for years–NBC’s sports coverage sucks! (Anyone remember when they played Meet the Press rather than Nadal’s epic loss to Soderling at the French Open??) The tape delays are ridiculous–they’re still operating as if it’s the early 90s and people don’t have up-to-the-second info on what’s happened.

    • corny says:

NBC and BlAH Lauer are totally horrid

    • LucyOriginal says:

NBC’s coverage has been just awful. It started at the opening ceremony when they decided to hold it to show pre-tape ceremony 3 hours from the actual start. Just awful…

      • amelia says:

        Go to bbc.co.uk/sport
I don’t have satellite so I can’t get all 24 bbc ooympic channel, so I catch up online, they have some good quality live feeds.
On a more GB centred note, we got our first mens gymnastics medal in 100 years pretty much!

  5. DreamyK says:

No Olympics for me. I stream all my media content now and NBC has tied their online content to subscribers of cable and satellite. Boo! Gizmodo does have a way to watch the Olympics though if you have the time and energy to jump through a few hoops. And do a few flips. Heh. Heh.

  6. Crazy Charlize Hates Intolerant Liberals says:

Damn, our team is ugly this year. I long for the cuties of 1996.

I just checked out the Ozzie team. Now there’s an attractive group of gymnasts. I know whom I rooting for.

    • TG says:

How can you say that? Gabrielle is so adorable. And Ally has something special in her look. There is a fierce determination and complete confidence that makes her attractive to me anyway. But, I do miss the Russian divas from the past. There is one Russian who seems very good, but she didn’t pull any antics last night. I miss Khorkina!

    • cupidityrox! says:

I’m sorry all the hard work & sacrifices this athletes put in for years & years is irrelevant simply because you consider them “ugly”. Hell lets just replace them with supermodels so they can have your “support”

    • Merritt says:

Ugly? Not even remotely. However this comment is an example of what is wrong with how people view women in sports (and life) They are athletes, it is about their athletic ability, not looking attractive.

      • paola says:

Plus they look completely different out of their sport’s gear and with losen hair and some make up. all these young girls are very pretty indeed and they are there to focus on the best performance they can give and some of their facial expressions are not what they are in true life out of the gym.
        RESPECT for them all.

    • Ramona Q. says:

What is wrong with you calling teenage girls uglies and cuties? Perv much?

    • Esmom says:

Wow, although looks shouldn’t be the focus, I think each of these girls is adorable in her own unique way.

    • ths original Susie says:

This is so wrong. Was this comment made to see how many responses would be made? Can anyone really be so superficial to judge an athletic team by looks? After all the years of training and becoming the best in the world at the sports they compete in, you want them to have professionally done make up and hair extensions? Really?

    • Relli says:

Sounds to me like you have a touch of the “Nancy Grace Syndrome”. All these girls are beautiful and healthy looking. What i do see is that this is one of the first teams from USA that isn’t all blonde (no offense blondes). To me they represent the changing face of the USA and that is simply gorgeous!

    • videli says:

      troll

    • Shannon1972 says:

Good grief! I believe in free speech, but comments like this sorely test me. -1000000

    • guilty pleasures says:

How about you post a full body shot of yourself? Ya, thought not.
These girls are beautiful, all of them, both superfluously and internally.
You, original commenter, are an ignorant troll. I will guarantee you have never in your life done anything of note that remotely approaches what any Olympic athlete has done.

    • dagsohyoumeandogs says:

I don’t remember if they were ugly or beautiful because I was too distracted by their awful hairstyles. With the exception of Jordyn’s ponytail, they all had those gross bedhead buns or half looped messes. Made me embarrassed for America.

  7. Merritt says:

Aly Raisman’s floor routine is amazing. Her tumbling passes are so difficult. When I saw how close she and Wieber were, I knew Aly would get ahead in the floor routine.

  8. L says:

Yea poor Weiber-that was heartbreaking and the NBC reporter was just cruel.

    • Shannon1972 says:

ITA. They gave her a few minutes to compose herself, but they should have just let her alone. It was cruel to shove a camera in her face when her dream had just collapsed, and under such unfair circumstances. She is the reigning world champion. Show some respect NBC.

  9. Jessica says:

oh no, the video link has been blocked????

  10. lucy2 says:

I watched a bit of the opening ceremony, and the gymnastics stuff so far. That one girl on the vault, holy crap! She flies. I liked how two of them have been BFFs and training partners since they were 6 years old too.
I felt bad for the girl who didn’t get in, especially if it’s due to a stupid rule, and I found it really awful that the camera was right in her face when she found out.

  11. KMD says:

I love Gabby and Aly. It was a tight race between the three of them. Hopefully there is a gold and silver for the all around in those gymnasts futures! The Fab Five have everything they need to bring home team gold tomorrow!

  12. Roma says:

Gawker was going off on how her parents were “stage parents”. As someone who was a competitive athlete for years but couldn’t catch my parents attention to save my life, that video made me cry.

    • SleepyJane says:

It’s all in the perspective, isn’t it?

    • guilty pleasures says:

Boy, we can’t wait to judge can we? I saw great, supportive parents who are totally emotionally invested in their child. Hats off!
I pantomime my kids performances as well, can’t help it!
I’m sorry your parents weren’t there, have you ever asked them why?

    • Missy Mara says:

Roma, sorry to hear you’re parents did not give you enough attention. that must have been difficult as a kid.

    • Roma says:

To those who asked: my parents and I are good now. I was the youngest of 4 and my brothers had their attention. Some how my wrestling, basketball and volleyball just didn’t hook them and I rebelled hard. They still regret it to this day – but watching such emotionally invested parents makes my heart ache!

      • GreenTurtle says:

I’m sorry, Roma. That’s so hard. It sounds like you’ve come to a better place about it, so good for you. That’s a lot to work through.

    • amelia says:

That sounds quite upsetting Roma 🙁
I was the total opposite. I had to ban my parents from watching when I was competing. Otherwise i’d keep looking over and get distracted wanting to do my best for them!

  13. Jessica says:

lol – I finally found the link.. it is cute how they both lean their heads to the left (right) at the same time.. too cute!!!

    • g says:

Same here! The video isn’t available in my country so I have to find another YT video.

I love the pure, unadulterated joy Aly’s father gave at the end 😀

  14. Marianne says:

Personally I would find that annoying if I were sitting near them.

  15. SleepyJane says:

I would die from anxiety if I ever had to watch my children perform in the Olympics.

    • DeltaJuliet says:

I know, can you imagine? I love watching my sons play sports….and we are talking 9 year old here.
The father looked like he was going to have a coronary when it was over lol

    • Kayla says:

I would too. My girls are both in soccer. Neither are big stars and mostly play for the fun of it but sometimes I just freak out inside. I can’t imagine having a kid in the Olympics!

  16. Rux says:

WTF those Olympic jerks blocked the link, thankfully, I was watching the “Step It Up 12: The Olympics Are On” last night and it was funniest $hit I have seen in years; not including Biel’s bangs of course. My favorite is when she drops the “F” bomb at the end.

This kind of reminds me of what I look like when I play Halo or Call of Duty; if you move with the remote your dude will too.

  17. Meredith says:

Non-Olympics: Of course ‘The Hobbit’ will be good. It’s got Martin Freeman! (Freebitches? Freebabes?)

  18. Francesca says:

SNL material for sure. I am sure Aly is being laughed at by many other Olympians, not to mention the world in general. The mother in particular needs to be medicated if she dares show herself again during a performance.

  19. LucyOriginal says:

I could not see this video. When I used to compete, I was glad my mom was busy at work. So, I often told her the days of competition in the last minute and she could not make plans, hahaha. I know that’s mean, but she was too enthusiastic and gave me too much support, acting as the coach, :). Now I feel I am horrible person…Oh the memories…

  20. Kimble says:

    Darn the IOC!

  21. claire says:

It reminds me too much of what it looks like when a meth addict is trying to sit still, so I found it hard to watch!

  22. TTT says:

I, for one, am glad they no longer require gymnasts to be under 5 feet tall.

  23. Kate says:

    she’s a real example of Procter&Gamble mother;)

    • Abby says:

I TOTALLY AGREE! That was my first thought. The parents are quickly becoming my favorite part of the Olympics. The black gymnast from the men’s team–his mom was precious. And Michael Phelps’ mom is famous for her antics. I personally think it’s great.

  24. RobN says:

Thought Dad was adorable, but Mom had crazy “I scream at the officials and it’s only a little league game” eyes. At some point it’s too much and I think this one has crossed that line.

    • S says:

^This … is the exact same impression I got. I hate judging people off of so little (although clearly, that’s what I’m doing here on Celebitchy), but something about Raisman’s mom’s behavior was unsettling to me: “C’mon stick it, stick it, STIIIICKKK IIIITTT!!!! YEEEEAAAHHHHH!!!” Dear Lord. I actually thought she had Tourette’s for a second. Wieber’s mom was completely engrossed and anxious during her daughter’s performances too, but somehow I didn’t get the batsh*t cray-cray vibe from her.

I can imagine that for a parent who has sacrificed so much for her child’s dreams and is thoroughly invested in seeing those dreams become a reality, emotions must run hella high at these kinds of (often once-in-a-lifetime) events. But this was over the top. Momma Raisman definitely struck me as a crazy stage mom–she herself was a former gymnast, apparently, so it’s no surprise. She seems like one of those uber-high-strung people who would yell at and subsequently get her waiter fired at a restaurant for forgetting to put the salad dressing on the side. I can spot those kinds of people from miles away. 🙂

  25. Dana M says:

    Her parents are completely adorable.

  26. F5 says:

Most disgusting stage parents of all time. Embarrassing beyond words.

  27. kitty-bye says:
