Noomi Rapace in green, lace Valentino in Venice: budget or beautiful?

Here are some photos of Noomi Rapace at the Venice Film Festival a few days ago, doing the photocall and premiere for her new Brian De Palma film, Passion. The film costars Rachel McAdams, but Rachel didn’t show up to Venice. I just saw some photos of her in Toronto with her boyfriend, so I guess that was her priority. So… let’s just talk about Noomi. I LOVE Noomi, as many of you know. I want her to do well, and I want to her to be accepted by Hollywood for the strong and unique actress that she is. Thus far, her Hollywood films haven’t been all that exciting (for me): she was in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, and most recently she had the lead in Prometheus. Both of those films weren’t the best, and Noomi was not served well by the material.

So, another way an actress can get attention is by becoming a Fashion Girl and really getting people interested in her aesthetics. Is Noomi working that angle now? Eh. Not really. In Venice, she wore this green Valentino dress which… I’m sorry, it’s AWFUL. The lace looks really cheap to me, and the design is so dated and tacky. Noomi looked better at the photocall in a BLK DNM suit, but I’m still not in love with her style. Ugh.

Back to the film she’s promoting. Passion is about “a murder mystery turning a power struggle between Christine, a business woman played by Rachel McAdams, and Isabel, her protege played by Noomi Rapace.” Noomi told the media that she liked the fact that the film is about two women and it’s not “cute” or about them being “just friends.” Here’s the trailer… it looks seriously bizarre.

PS… Noomi’s shoes are YSL. I kind of love them.

I don’t really know how anything Valentino can get called “budget” but I might shop in different places..

  2. Jade says:

I think she looks beautiful esp in the second photo of her smiling in the lace dress. I love the dress too – there’s just something about it that works perfectly with her colouring…

Re the movie, not convinced about this. I don’t think Rachel mcadams is suited to playing a ‘strong’ woman…

  3. Belly says:

Love love love the green dress, and she has the aplomb to carry off the white suit too.
I’ll pretend I didn’t see the shoes, the platforms don’t do it for me.

I think the dress is pretty and Noomi looks gorgeous in green. She just needed a better seamstress to tighten up the bodice (that she will probably never wear again, right?). It is all about the little details…

^^This. And maybe lighten up on the makeup a little bit; her natural & unique beauty is totally masked here.

      100%

I also think this is a dress that probably looks better in person – the detail on the lace is so intricate that I suspect the dimension doesn’t show up well in photos.

      She looks lovely.

This kind of shoes style must go they don’t look elegant on any woman and very tacky looking also .

Dress is beautiful but I’m sorry but she’s a great actress but weird looking. I know she’s the thing right now but she’s overrated looks wise.

  7. Aria says:

Sorry, kaizer, but I disagree. She looks lovely in that Valentino dress.

  8. Marta says:

love the dress , especially front. Naomi have beatifull face like Vivian Leigh or Jean Simmons. BUT the backside of Naomi is not for this kind of dress. she is not the curvey woman so she look like dwarf. the smoking is too John Travolitsh from saturday Night Fever – not very stylish .

  9. Scarlet Vixen says:

Holy crap does she look like Lena Olin!! Which isn’t a bad thing–I think Lena Olin is still gorgeous at…65ish?

The green dress and hairstyle look very holiday bridesmaid to me, and it makes her boobs look so…sad. I love the idea of the white suit, but the fit in the crotch of the pants is also really unflattering. She’s got the right idea, just needs better execution.

  10. Alexis says:

    Oooo, I like this.

  11. snappyfish says:

noomi has a very 1930s style face, and i think the lace dress and the pantsuit are just vintage enough to work for her. but i agree the dress was ill-fitted. i think she is very unusual looking, which i really like.

  12. GoodCapon says:

I agree with cheerfulgee: she looks great in green, but the dress just hangs around the chest area. Get some good support for your twins Noomi!

Anyway – the dress is not budget, but I could hardly call it beautiful either.

She looks a lot better in her second outfit though.

  13. kibbles says:

Really bad styling for her unique look. She’s not what I would call beautiful, but one doesn’t have to be beautiful to look good. One just needs to find what looks good for their particular face and body type. Maybe someone young and cute could get away with this dress, but Noomi looks better in simple dresses. She looks much better in the suit with her hair down.

  14. GirlyGirl says:

    Love her

if I can quote Archer here… sploosh.

  15. Katie says:

I think she’s fascinating to look at and oddly beautiful. She is not typical, bland pretty like Blake Lively or Jessica Beil or any of the other interchangeable cardboard cutouts. Love her. I do hate the platform hooker hooves.

  16. Cam S says:

BEAUTIFUL!!! I am really starting to root for this actress. LOVE HER

  17. DreamyK says:

The dress reminds me of a tablecloth my mom had in 1975. It seems like everything was avocado green or burnt orange back then.

  18. Chicago Girl says:

I don’t know if it is the make up or hair, but she looks nearly 10 years older than she is in these photos.

  19. Hmm says:

She looks like a mom here! I’m sorry but I don’t like her as anything but Lisbeth Salander! She needs a Mohawk and some piercings! She was such a badass.

  20. Hakura says:

What I noticed first was how she posed for the cameras, like she’s trying to be either bad-ass, nonchalant, or both. xD

I don’t like this dress at all as the neckline in front is too high, causing the look to become unbalanced. &

And the material looks like my grandmother’s crochet doilies. (/bitch mode)

  21. thinlizzy says:

and another one fills with filler. She was gorgeous in the “girl” films now she’s a Victoria Beckham wannabee.

  22. lisa2 says:

The dress looks too big for her. And so does the white suit.
