Sarah Jessica Parker takes the cover of the November issue of Elle Mag, otherwise known as “The Hollywood Issue”. Because Elle doesn’t put actresses on their covers every other month, I suppose. You can see Elle’s slideshow here – it includes these photos of SJP, of course, as well as some nice pics of Emma Watson, Elle Fanning and Octavia Spencer. In addition to those women being “honored” by Elle, the mag also promises features on Cate Blanchett (YAY!), Kristen Wiig, Uma Thurman, Shirley MacLaine and Susan Sarandon. Here are some highlights from the interviews:
Sarah Jessica Parker:
“I don’t love the idea of playing another woman who loves fashion and is slightly flawed in New York City,” Parker says of future roles. “I loved Sex and the City’s Carrie [Bradshaw] and I don’t want to do the poor man’s version of her. And while those are often the lucrative things to do, it’s more reason to look in the other direction.”Octavia Spencer:
“Early on I had to stand up to a producer – I won’t say who, but he is famous, famous. He dressed me down in a crowded office. I told him right there in front of a hundred people, ‘You don’t know me well enough to use that tone,’ ” she says of standing up for herself. “And then I ran to the bathroom and cried like a baby. But he never addressed me that way again. And he is known as a yeller.”Emma Watson:
“I just knew, from the moment I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone that I was meant to play that role,” she says of the character Hermione Granger. “I put one of the Potter films on the other night. And it was amazing to me that I had done all of that. I have to remind myself every now and then.”Elle Fanning:
“I can’t really remember my life without movies,” Fanning says of growing up in the spotlight. “I make movies the same way other kids play tennis or go to piano lessons. I’m trying to get better at what I want to do, just like other kids are trying to get better at what they want to do.”

You know what’s weird? We haven’t had a big, eye-roll-inducing SJP interview in a while. I just checked her IMDB, and she doesn’t have a lot of stuff going on these days, so maybe that’s why A) she hasn’t given many interviews lately and B) why I keep seeing endless candid photos of her with her kids. The only thing SJP has in 2012 is her guest appearance(s) on Glee. Does doing a bit on Glee get you the cover of Elle Mag these days?! They should have given it to Cate Blanchett. For real.

Isn’t her role on Glee “another woman who loves fashion and is slightly flawed in New York City” ?
That’s exactly what I was thinking. Her GLEE role is Carrie as a fashion editor.
1 – All of her roles are versions of Carrie Bradshaw.
2 – SJP is a poor version of Carrie Bradshaw.
She needs to be flicked. I always found SJP annoying.
a+men!
Me too.
Slightly flawed? I can’t think of an overly flawed (not to mention ANNOYING) character than Carrie Dramatic Bradshaw.
Yes! Carrie is the worst female protagonist on television. She’s a complete moron who acts like a teenager and never learns a damn thing from experience.
She was such an incredibly selfish and self-centred character. It made no sense to me that anyone would put up with her.
And I really like SJP
Were they purposely trying to highlight her ‘horsiness’ in those photos?
God, I know. That cover picture is HORRIBLE
Cate Blanchette would have been a much better choice!
She is so unattractive – she looks like a witch in that first picture.
She is Annoying.
Why is she famous? She is so fugly and yet he thinks the fashion world and Hollywood should BOW to her. Ugh…I really loathe her
Who is Octavia taking about????
Octavia Spencer: good for standing up for herself! love her!
agree with you guys, love Cate Blanchett!!
She already did the poor-man’s version of Carrie, TWICE: Sex in the City movies 1 & 2
with all the royal-ragging on Cate and Pippa’s eyeliner – no one ever mentions it for SJP. it looks HORRIBLE on her! i get it’s her trademark ‘thing’ or whatever, but doesnt she look at herself once the photoshoot goes to print?? she ALWAYS looks beady-eyed… i dont dislike her, but just cuz they’re blue, it doesnt mean you have to line them to death (on the inside!?)
Totally agree. If that eye makeup was on anyone else we would call it dated and trashy but because it’s on SJP we’re supposed to think it’s chic.
Yes, I was just coming here to make a comment along those lines.
I think that she is uniquely beautiful, but FFS, enough with the heavy black liner. It angulates her face something fierce, and while I do love her, she doesn’t need any additional angles.
She delights in looking like a chronically sad, asthmatic yet hard working and devoted to duty rag picker’s daughter.. Hubby Broderick .. not so much
She is highly over rated
Am I the only one who still kinda loves SJP? Maybe it’s still a throwback to her Square Pegs days… Damn I’m old.
I am old too and I’ve loved her since Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. When I watch reruns of SATC I really dislike the Carrie Bradshaw character, but I love the show and SJP.
HOW could i forget about Girls Just Want To Have Fun! I rented it so many times as a young girl that I wore out the video store copy.
“I like to sing but I LOVE TO DANCE, and I always dreamed of coming to Chicago because thats where they make DANCE TV!”
No, you aren’t because I still LOVE SJP!!! She’s beautiful (who cares that she doesn’t fit everyones idea of “perfect”), intelligent, and works hard. She’s gracious to people. Have we ever heard stories of her treating people badly a la Lindsay Lohan? No, we haven’t. She may have played a sexually provocative character on SATC, but she doesn’t use her sexuality to get ahead, like a lot of women stars have done (Christina Aguilera, Madonna, etc). I will always love her, and I don’t care what anyone else says :D.
You must not be familiar with her work in the mid to late 90s (pre-SATC.) She definitely had a period in her career where she was trying to be the “sexy girl.”
I know ‘Carrie’ was a little annoying but I think she carried the fashion element of her role well. Not many actresses can pull that off without making the character look ridiculous.
Why are we hating her physical appearance? Yes she’s not a beauty but she’s not botoxed and pulled beyond recognition
I love that she’s not gotten a nose job or other surgeries. As a big nosed gal myself, I look up to SJP.
Totally! SJP is beautiful in her own way, and she’s not had plastic surgery. What’s wrong with the rest of you gals hating on her looks? Does everyone need to be “done” to be gorgeous?
Aw i love SJP and always have WAY before SATC; I mean COME ON Square Pegs, Honeymoon in Vegas, First Wives Club, Footloose! She has lived an amazing life and while i don’t look at her as a role model I do think she is one of those truly fascinating women.
If you have never seen “Life After Tomorrow”, I truly recommend it! SJP shows up a few times talking about her early days of being in Annie and how it started her career, amongst other actresses you will be surprised to see! But what I took away from it the most is that she was really lucky to make it to where she is now and she is grateful. There were other little girls who were prettier and more talented and yet she persevered, thats amazing in my book!
Awesome post. She’s a hardworking woman and has earned her stardom for sure.
I love SJP. One of those offbeat cute girls that as she ages and loses the natural fat in the face turned out not as cute. Roles are probably limited now but she’s a class act.
Don’t know why they put her on the cover, considering she’s pretty low profile right now.
Good for Octavia!
I always thought SJP had lovely skin, and the most beautiful smile.
She would look so much healthier with 15 pounds on her. Sorry.
Oh Carrie no. Just…no.
great cover….she is FASHION.
word….I miss Carrie…..and I agree NO BUDGET Carrie allowed!!!!
amazing cover.
This highly over rated horse faced woman has got to be the fugliest of the fugglies in Hollywood. I cant imagine how on Earth she has ever worked EVER except I suppose nepotism in over drive and she continues to be shoved in front of us by one AMAZING agent. That FACE, just ugh. UGH.
Sparkly eye-shadow + woman over 40 = not attractive
Always love SJP.
