These are some nice photos of Hugh Jackman’s Star on the Walk of Fame ceremony yesterday. Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried and Les Miserables director Tom Hooper all showed up for Hugh, which is nice. I’m also including pics of Hugh’s wife Deb and their kids. I especially like Hathaway’s vibe here – more Audrey Hepburn and less Beave-Flash McOscarCampaign. Note: I would hate this dress if Michelle Williams wore it (and you know Michelle will wear it). But on Anne, I love it.
Anyway, as I’m sure you’ve seen, Hugh and Anne both got Golden Globe and SAG nominations for their Les Mis roles. I think it’s looking pretty good that they will both get Oscar nominations. Hugh kind of snuck up on everyone, right? Back when I was reading early predictors and indicators of who would get what Oscar nomination, it never felt like Jackman was going to be a big contender. Anne was, of course – her role had “Oscar-bait” written all over it. But it feels good to think Hugh Jackman will be getting his first Oscar nomination, not for playing against type in some moody, cynic drama, and not for some stunt-casting supporting role either. Hugh is a song-and-dance man, an old-fashioned entertainer. I love the idea of Hugh being recognized for a lead role in a big musical, don’t you?
And that’s what makes me think… maybe Daniel Day-Lewis’s biggest competition for Best Actor is Hugh Jackman. I’m starting to get the same feeling that I had when I saw all of the pieces coming into place for Colin Firth two years ago. I’m just looking at the odds, the way the campaigns are shaping up, the buzz, trying to predict how the “Hollywood establishment” will be looking at these films. Hugh has a lot of love in Establishment Hollywood. So does DDL. But DDL already has two Best Actor Oscars. And Hugh doesn’t have any, and this will be his very first nomination. It just feels like… it might be right for Hugh. *chills*
As for poor Annie and her Oscar Campaign Beave, I don’t even know. I think her campaign just came too hard, too fast and too soon. Like, she didn’t ease into it, she didn’t show up with enough humility, I guess. I think we’re in the midst of a Hathaway Backlash. But! During the awards season, things move so fast. The backlash will be over in a few weeks, just in time to root for her at the Globes! I think Anne is coming into the season as “the one to beat” and it will be interesting to see how Sally Field and Helen Hunt and (COUGH!!!!) Nicole Kidman play their hands. Oh, and don’t forget about little Amy Adams. The Academy loves her too!

Oscars tend to go to actors for an overall career achievement. It’s more for who is due one than who put on the absolute best performance that year. With some exceptions. Though I can see Hugh at least getting a nom and much support.
Who besides j. Phoenix is overdue? DDL & Washington were also great but have been rewarded before, altho imo Phoenix beat them all out this year and it’s always great when the best wins. Xcept for X-men h.Jackman hasn’t done very much, certainly nothing to compare with the top tier this year.
I was JUST talking to someone about this. I think he’s primed for a win. I haven’t seen the movie, so this doesn’t have to do with his performance, but there are a lot of reasons I think he became the frontrunner: 1) Daniel Day-Lewis pretty much just won an Oscar. He has no Meryl Streep-like Oscar drought. 2) Lincoln was no Schindler’s List. It has amazing pedigree, and it did well, but it’s not “the” movie. 3) Hugh Jackman is a sweetheart, a good guy, and scandal-free. Put him next to Russell Crowe, he looks even nicer. 4) HJ hosted the Academy Awards SUCCESSFULLY. He wasn’t phoning it in like Franco or stale like Crystal. 5) So far, he’s hasn’t made any big “I want it, I want it, I want it!” plays, like Hathaway. I feel like there’s a fine line nominees have to straddle. They CAN’T act like the Oscar doesn’t matter (Joaquin Phoenix), but acting like it’s the be all, end all smacks of desperation.
Hugh Jackman is someone the Academy would want to give an award to. You have to think of the voter filling out the ballot. Who would it give you the warm and fuzzies to see winning an Oscar? Who would appreciate it without acting entitled to it? My main man, Wolverine.
I wonder whether the fact that Jackman has hosted the Oscars and that he did a good job (unlike Hathaway) is going to factor into the Academy’s vote. Maybe that will put him over the top. Plus, he is such a nice person and very popular, much like Sandra Bullock.
I think he’s a lock for a nomination, but I still think DDL is going to win it.

I was wondering about this too. I just don’t know about Hathaway. She can carry a tune, but I just don’t think she has the chops to pull off “I Dreamed a Dream.” Yeah, I’ve seen the trailers and it is fine, but I would’ve loved to have seen what someone with a real voice (say, Lea Michelle) could’ve done with it. Seyfried is a decent actress and has a much better singing voice than Hathaway. Her role isn’t as Oscar-baitish as Hathaway’s, but this movie is much more in her wheelhouse than Hathaway.
I’ll reserve judgment on actor until I see Les Mis, but DDL was fantastic in Lincoln, which was otherwise decent, but standard schmaltzy Speilberg fare. I think DDL will be hard to beat.
Lea Michele would have been awful in this role. She doesn’t have the maturity or humility to be in this adaptation of Les Mis. There would be a lot of people who would avoid this movie if she was in it. She’s vaguely OK in Glee but not as a serious big-movie actress. She doesn’t know her place in ensemble casts. She mistakenly thinks she’s the star.
I get goosebumps watching the trailer. Can’t wait to see it. I also ADORE Eddie Redmayne!!! Go Hugh!
Well, Cosette is not the most interesting and award worthy role, so I don’t know if Amanda really thought she had a chance. If another actress should be nominated for “les miserables”, it’s more Samantha Barks because Eponine is a more tragic (and less boring) character and the critics say she is good, especially since it’s her first movie role.
I think it’s a great career move for Amanda, because her last movies were bad or underwhelming(like gone, little red riding hood, letters to juliett, in time, jenifer’s body, dear john…) even mama mia wasn’t good. Except for Mean girls, she has never been in a good movie, so maybe Amanda is just happy to be in a high profile movie like ” Les miserables”.
I hope she will pick better movies in the futur, because I like her. She was really cute and funny in mean girls, and I think she deserves better material.
I think you are dead on. Because Marius and Cosette are the love story, people attribute more t those roles more than I believe was intended. The meat of the story is the right/wrong relationships and those are Valjean, Javert, Fantine, Eponine and Enjolras. I felt this about the book but the opera really emphasizes it, I feel.

I guess it’s because she’s a civilian that we give her a pass for being the second coming of cat woman? I really, really hope that work settles into something acceptable because right now, OMG. She had a lovely naturally aging face a year or two ago and I don’t know what the hell she was thinking.
Well if she really had work done in her face then the money was totally wasted. But I don’t mind the wrinkles, it’s this horrible bleached and strawy hair and the frumpy and totally unflattering clothes. How hard can it be to dress up not looking like someone’s grandmother?

She was cute once – way before we knew who she was but with what she did to her face here she looks much worse than a frumpy granny. She looks like Jocelyn Wildenstein.
PLEASE stop talking about her looks, like it matters! They are mother + son, not husband + wife. Lot’s of gay men form bonds with older women and attend events with them. Her primary function is to deny he is gay. Who he’s sleeping with is another matter.
I have my money on Joaquin and Amy, but I would be really happy for Hugh.
I think he probably deserves a nom and maybe even the Oscar but I don’t know if he’ll get it because he’s too mainstream. He’s not “artsy” enough and this is a musical. Academy likes historical dramas so I think DDL has a better chance. 🙁

Am I the only one that thought Liam Neeson deserved a nod for The Grey? Not the movie itself, but the character study of a man at the end of the road, starting to take his life over his grief for his wife, and the evolution of his mindset while lost in the wilderness was brilliant acting by Liam. It was more of a character-driven movie than action movie.
I love this man.
I really do hope Hugh wins both a GG and the Oscar.

As much as I love DDL he’s already been awarded by the Academy several times so I think they’ll give it to someone else this time. Plus he did a great job hosting and the Academy loves a Renaissance man like Hugh.

I know, right? This entire post makes me laugh. The only real competition Daniel Day-Lewis has is Joaquin Phoenix for The Master, and after his remarks about the Academy, I don’t think he’s winning. DDL is a lock. Plus, Les Miz is getting panned by critics. It’s apparently a very bloated mess.
DDL will win Best Actor in most of the award events.
It seems to be setting up for a Jackman win. Normally there is a certain momentum that goes along with a win and that seems to be building now. Hope so. He’s a great guy.

I was at a recent Q & A of Les Mis and all I can say is Hugh Jackman is so humble where as Anne Hathaway is insufferable. UGH.

If the movie is as good as I’ve been hearing then he deserves his Oscar. Jean Valjean absolutely is the heart and soul of Les Mis and Hugh has to carry the whole production on his shoulders. They’ve waited almost 30 years to make the movie version of the musical because they’ve been waiting for Hugh Jackman to come along.

I adore Hugh. My husband pointed out to me that his wife wasn’t a “pin-up”-“eye-candy”. I told him he was mad. I have seen Deb in interviews and she is intelligent, well spoken and approachable. He looks really happy with her and speaks highly of her unlike Affleck with his wife. To me knowing that a gorgeous and talented man like Hugh is a honorable man who loves his wife like that makes me like him more. 😍😘
Why is it so hard for people to believe Hugh and his wife have a real marriage? She’s a nice looking lady, just b/c she’s not in his league in the looks department doesn’t mean they don’t have a real relationship. Hugh doesn’t seem like a superficial guy either, so I buy their relationship until I see hard proof to the contrary, not just gossip.
Believe it or not, there are some good-looking men that are with women for more than their looks. and to me, it shows how superficial others are, when they can’t believe a gorgeous man would be with a less than gorgeous woman. maybe hugh’s not as shallow as some of the posters on here
Totally. My husband is a 10/10 in the looks department and every single one of my friends agrees. I, on the other hand, am probably a 7/10 (just being honest and objective). Im cute but nothing amazing. We have been together 10 years, have a great relationship and he is the most loyal man ever. Super hotties dont always end up with other super hotties!
DDL has been taken out of mothballs and dusted off for a film appearence so everyone else is strictly playing for “It was an honor to be nominated” rights and that was a given the day he signed on for “Lincoln”. He’s very good mind you but something of a sacred cow.

I don’t love Anne Hathaway but I think she deserves the Oscar for this. As good as Amy Adams was she does not deserve the Oscar as much as Anne (or Sally Field or Helen Hunt) but I’m afraid the Academy is so in love with Amy Adams they might give it to her undeservedly.

Deb is an accomplished actress and director in her own right as well as committed to a global charity. She gives every indication of being a good mother and supportive wife. The only reason for anyone to bash her is jealousy and meanness. Now I truly hope Hugh takes home the Oscar because he finally has a role that matches his almost unbelievable talent.
