This year’s Time Magazine “Person of Year” is a no-brainer. Traditionally, Time Mag will make “the winner” of a presidential campaign their person of the year every four years, and wouldn’t you know, Pres. Obama also won the honor in 2008 as well. That being said, I think he deserves the honor more this year than in 2008. It’s one thing to be the first African-American to get elected to the highest office in the land for the first time (a spectacular feat unto itself), but it’s quite another to be RE-elected to the highest office in the land after people have gotten to know him and have gotten to know his politics. You can read Time’s Person of the Year article here – I just skimmed the piece, but I’ll be going back to enjoy it later. I know this makes me an old fart, but I always enjoy Time’s Person of the Year issue. They bring in some of their best writers and guest writers for the issue.
In addition to the lengthy POY article, Time also put together a really beautiful slideshow package of some never-before-published photos of Obama by beloved White House photographer Pete Souza – go here to see. Souza has been Obama’s in-house guy, and he gets some really great photos of not just Obama, but everyone in the administration. I’m including some shots below.
Other “persons of year” for 2012: “Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who was shot and nearly killed by Taliban insurgents for defending women’s rights; Apple CEO Tim Cook; Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi; and Fabiola Gianotti, one of the lead researchers working on the discovery of the Higgs Boson.” You can see Time’s whole POY package here – there are tons of articles and slideshows and stuff. They really did a great job for this year’s issue.

Ok without even touching politics can I just say that your President is a regulation hotty.
Hottie and smart.
I have to agree with this. I don’t care that he’s 51 and nearly 30 years older than me.
Anyone feel like swapping him for David Cameron? We’ll throw in Nick Clegg for free.
Also … why is Obama getting killed by a mini spiderman in one of those photos? Just another reason to like him, he seems like a natural kid person. As someone mentioned down thread, the picture of him with some of the kids from Newtown is adorable.
I’m embarrassed to admit that I find Nick Clegg slightly attractive… 🙁
I agree. Although, technically, he’s not my president (I don’t live in the US). Love his voice.
Agreed, Miss Kiki! I love our President.
Thank you, and we love the man. Here’s proof of just how awesome he is: http://obamaandkids.tumblr.com/
yeah he is <3
love him
he makes me proud, too, and not just for being hot 🙂
Oh stop it Mitt Romney.
Ha ha ha ha, that was very funny.
He’s also the president “AGAIN”, so that’s about right.
*Loves*
another valid reason why I cancelled my subscription
So 2008. Haha
OMG I adore the pic of him being “attacked” by the Spider-kid. I don’t care if he’s the President or just some random guy on the street, I love it when grown men indulge kids by going along with stuff like that. 🙂 Call me a sap, hahaha.
Then I’m a sap too because I find that picture — which I’m seeing for the first time — super cute :).
I totally agree. Barack with children is amazing.
That pic of him with the kids from Newtown, where the one little girl is hanging on his leg is priceless. He’s so comfortable and at ease with children – even babies, which is unusual for a lot of guys. Love him!
Have you seen him and his niece Savita? Adorbs!!

I love how great President Obama is with kids! He has the funniest shots of just playing along with little ones.
I’m not even going to act like I’m not absolutely delighted that he was chosen. This year was my first time voting after becoming a citizen of the US and I am so, so pleased that I voted for the President, and I am so, so pleased that he was elected! He’s a great man and I’m not afraid to fangirl about it.
Congrats on your citizenship and voting!
Welcome, cmc! And, good choice. 😉
What a great man! He warms ny heart to no end. Love him!
+1
I also love how he is with women. No fake shit there; he respects his wife and other women too.
I don’t trust guys who look down on us.
Yup!! He’s an all around great man and am proud that he’s our President. I will never be ashamed of that.
Actually it wasnt a given he would be the person of the year. I believe the first time a president was the POTY upon his reelection was George W Bush. Oh and Obama is the first president to win 51% of the vote twice since Eisenhower big deal
http://m.dailykos.com/story/2012/11/30/1165904/-Barack-Obama-51-percent-watch-50-91
Wow, I didn’t realize that all of the other elections were that close. 51% doesn’t seem that great. I’m not dogging him bc I like him but I can’t help but think how 49% didn’t vote for him. How did the other guys win? With 50.5%?
Dammit celebitches. I’m 17, there is no need in me lusting after a 50(?) year old man, THE PRESIDENT at that. But seeing how you all fangirl’d on here, and a few other sites, I had a sexy times dream about him. I can’t even look at these without the fantasy starting back up. I blame you all. *gives Obama fangirls side eye* in my dream I wasn’t even afraid of the FLOTUS, I am a track runner, hehe.
EDIT: that pic with Biden iz too precious.
That’s intense and pretty danged funny. However, if your next dream is about taking a milk bath with Joe Biden, then may all your dreams be curtailed because I don’t have the funds to have you shipped to Ontario and bring you to my next doctor’s appointment.
I wonder if he will win the Nobel peace prize this year as well or perhaps an academy award…ha ha ha….I really wish you would make this site a politically free zone……..as your tag line states..”escapism can be smart”!
That picture looks rough. Love him though, can’t wait to pick up my copy of Time. I looked through all 125 photos. Some really touching stuff in there
I think like most Presidents, the aging process speeds up while they’re in office. No one seems to be immune. Energy-wise, though, he still seems to have his old spark. Just a few more gray hairs and wrinkles. Understandably.
Definitely agree. It’s probably one of the most stressful job on the planet. He still looks great though. The toll it takes on a person to run this country is inconceivable in my eyes!
Go on Obama!!!!
Years of stress will do that but he’s still good-looking.
@Eve-I love Obama’s voice too.
I voted for Obama but I wish this honor had gone to Malala Yousafzai instead.
She is just such a fascinating and courageous young woman.
I agree. Very disappointed. She should have had it, hands down.
I was expecting it to be her, but I’m glad she was included in the list.
Who is she? I am going to google her.
She is a young Pakistani girl (I think 12 or 13) who was shot in the head by the Taliban for being an advocate for young girls’ education. She became somewhat of global a symbol. Great story. She is recovering in the UK.
agreed, that young woman is amazing..
Okay thanks for the info. I agree, she is outstanding.
speaking of Taliban, have you seen how this girl has recovered after being mutilated by her taliban husband?
I still can’t look at her times cover without getting nightmares BUT i am so pleased at her progress.

I am so happy for president Obama, congrats!
Eat your heart out Fox News and friends.
It was an impressive re-election – strong oppositional party, tough economy, a lot of divisive social issues. I can see why they chose him again. I generally agree with his politics, but all politics aside, I like him very much as a person. He seems like a great husband and father.
I’ve really enjoyed the work of Souza, the White House photographer, these past few years. There have been some great behind the scenes moments captured, and some very iconic moments as well, such as the Situation Room when the bin Laden raid happened.
Looking forward to seeing more of this issue.
I don’t know…you guys re-elected Bush as well, being re-elected means nothing, he had no real competition.
It would have been a disaster if Romney had been elected, but come on, winning by “default” is no great feat.
Being a woman defines who I am more than my race/ethnicity/whatever PC term you want to use. And there still hasn’t been a woman president. So I’m not going to campaign for something, when MY group (women) is far more extensive and far less represented.
How about Anne Hathaway? 🙂 Okay, I’ll quit it!
Why?
What happened to Anne Hathaway? rolling eyes….
Love and respect our President.
I love my president! I love how children seem to connect to him. He’s the child whisperer
http://m.youtube.com/index?&desktop_uri=%2F#/results?q=obama%20child%20whisperer
That video always cracks me up. I love the way he looks at his wife while he’s comforting the baby, like he’s saying, “See, this is how you do it.”
If memory serves, Henry Luce who ran Time Magazine is documented as a CIA collaborator in disseminating the Cold War’s propaganda. In essence, the magazine served as a government tool for mild brainwashing. I’m no longer a fan of Obama and think less hype, less war and better conditions for that class of Americans who were wiped out, would speak better for Obama than being a cover boy.
My little grandson was born in 2009. By the time he is seven years old, a black president will have been in the Oval office for all his life. What a great inspiration President Obama is for all children of color to realize that there is NOTHING they won’t be able to do if they set their minds to it.
i really hate when this site gets political…i come here to avoid reading about Obama…
I would recommend not clicking on posts that are clearly about Obama. There are people I do not like to read about either so I don’t. Problem solved!
Well sorry that you dont like Obama but the world is no longer black and white, so until the GOP can grasp that and reach out to people of all colors, you will be disappointed with future elections.
so you automatically assume im a republican because I dont support Obama? Well sweet pea I think its you that needs to learn that the “world is not black and white” I’m an independent
I love it when this site gets political, love Obama, he’s intelligent AND cool.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen a photo of Obama and Hillary holding hands!
I saw him cry about the kids from Newton and was wondering if he cried also for all the kids he still kills in Iraq, Afghanistan, North Africa and several other parts of the world.
The US govermment kills more kids in a day then any crazies with a gun.
Ban guns? yes by all means , remove them from the govermment!!!
There haven’t been soldiers in Iraq since Dec. 18, 2011. There is only an embassy there now, with 160 guards (similar to other embassies).
Dont need troops when you have drones Tiffany.
What a shame that Marc Emery still in American jail – dude was selling seeds. Obama could set him free.
