SAG Awards Open Post: Hosted by the Best Actors, Hugh Jackman & DDL

Here is your Open Post for tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Generally, this awards show is somewhat low-key (compared to the Globes and the Oscars), but some years there will be some big news. Like, Angelina Jolie debuted her bump (when she was pregnant with the twins) at the SAGs in 2008. And last year at the SAGs she was apparently boozing it up with Tilda Swinton. Alas, I don’t think we should expect anything that spectacular for this year’s SAGs. And by that I mean, all of the drama will be left to who actually wins the awards, because none of them are sure things.

So I’m giving you the two biggest competitors for this year’s Best Actor race – Daniel Day Lewis and Hugh Jackman. Hugh won the Globe for Comedy/Musical for Les Miserables and DDL won the Globe for Drama for Lincoln. I think DDL has come into this awards season as “the one to beat” and Hugh has been running a solid, look-at-my-happy-family, everybody-loves-me campaign. Hugh seems genuinely grateful and gratified when he wins something. Daniel seems… well, he’s happy when he wins something too, and everybody likes and respects him. I think the instinct for a lot of people will be to give them both something, so it will be interesting to see who wins tonight. The SAGs are a great predictor for the acting awards at the Oscars.

So, if you had an Oscar ballot, who would you choose? I’m not sure! I would angle more towards Hugh just because… DDL already has two Oscars. But it will be fun to watch! And tomorrow we’ll have all of the fashion & awards coverage!

  1. Shira says:

    DDL to rule them all.

I’m waiting to see my lovely JLaw and BCoop. Poor Jennifer showing up with pneumonia.

    • Jane says:

+1 DDL gave a magnificent performance and he nailed the look of Lincoln so well, I had forgotten it was an actor. Whoever did the casting was spot on.

    • Migdalia says:

Hmm looking at stills and the body chemistry between B Coop and J Law are pretty telling. I wonder if they’re trying not to be too chummy with each other in public. Very standoffish

      • Shira says:

I don’t know, I don’t see them deliberately not touching each other because of rumors that let’s face it – are in full swing as it is. She might not want people to touch her. I’m watching crummy live stream but from what I read she wouldn’t take his hand when they presented – she probably didn’t want him to get sick.

      • Lauli says:

I don’t see any body chemistry and I don’t need glasses, my eyesight is perfect. LOL

      • nina says:

Bradley is gay as they come.Jennifer doesn’t need any bearding duties-let the pros like taylor swift and camille belle take care of that currently open position!

  2. KellyinSeattle says:

Hugh Jackman and DDL!!! Love them both; loved how Hugh threw out all kinds of love to his wife during the awards.

  3. Ms Kay says:

DDL will win like a bulldozer quietly squashes a snail, only that after investigation the CSI find out that the snail was suicidal anyway by getting into that fight…

Anyway, Oscar ballot wise I am rooting for dark horse Joaquin Phoenix.

    • LeeLoo says:

Because he is the overachieving 3rd grader who won’t allow anyone but himself to answer the questions the teacher asks.

Sorry but I’m right with Anthony Hopkins when it comes to method acting. There is no need to immerse yourself in your roles the way he does.

      • Ms Kay says:

I understand. But at the end of the day, even though it may look extreme, it pays off seeing the result, the man is undoubtedly outstanding. Also he is pretty much aware of it to care about his carry to the point of taking a year or two off until the next project.

Some go to the extreme and other go for other methods. As long as it pays off i.e. the result is good, I don’t mind much eh.

Speaking of A. Hopkins I remember a similar story (more likely apocryphal) about Laurence Olivier who told a Dustin Hoffman who was running miles and miles to prepare for his marathon runner role “Try acting dear boy!” haha!

      • LeeLoo says:

Ms. Kay, you quoted something bitchy Laurence Olivier said so you are awesome. While the end result can be amazing, and I’ve seen Lincoln it’s really good (Sally Field stole the show for me though). However, I look at acting as a fun game of play pretend like we play as children. Making it into this intense art takes the fun out of it for viewers and I would expect the actors as well. But this is also why I’m not an actor.

Don’t mind me though, I think my strep throat is making me extra snarky.

      • LAK says:

Oh Leeloo, something we can agree on. At last!!

that said, i adore Hugh but i am rooting for DDL. if only because DDL isn’t in my face all the time now or ever so i would be a terrible academy voter because that would be my voting criteria.

And i would give supporting to SAlly Field or Amy Adams…am in the anyone BUT annE camp.

      • Ms Kay says:

Haha Leeloo me dear no worries, snarky is always welcome when discussed in a healthy way as we do here. Olivier had a great point with that bitchy remark, don’t get lost into the freaking intense preparation to the point to lose the acting bit. And that is why I respect the likes of DDL as much as he might be extreme, he is amazing.

It’s not like AnnE Hathaway who thinks that because she starved herself to death (from the way she talks about it one could believe it) for Les Mis role she thinks as herself in the same league or then is pretentious enough to think she could be. Bitch please, the Fantine role could have gone to any other decent actress and the actress would’ve been good too, thus she isn’t that unique as she thinks she is. She ain’t no Christian Bale, dude was scary and good in The Machinist.

      • LeeLoo says:

Oh you do not want to get me started on AnnE. I can’t stand that woman. When we all saw the first photos of her haircut for Les Mis, I accurately predicted that she would campaign for her Oscar by telling stories of how she cried as she allowed them to sacrifice her hair for the role. AnnE is so transparent and see through and I sincerely believe after her GG speech, the Academy and everyone else will see right through it. But part of me hopes she gets her damn Oscar and the supporting actress curse will kick in and all of her projects will dry up.

      • T.Fanty says:

I think we’re giving Anne Hathaway way too much credit for deviousness/importance here. She’s just to darn needy to actually hate. She’s like a fly, buzzing around my head that I can’t swat away. I think it’s what Ms. Kay says – she’s trying to make herself seem way more unique than she is.

That said, I do have an intense loathing for people who name themselves after famous historical/literary characters (Tom Hardy is off the hook, because I actually only got his name last week while rereading Jude the Obscure. *hangs head in shame).

    • T.Fanty says:

*just chiming in to compliment you on a lovely extension of that simile. Carry on.

      • Ms Kay says:

Haha thanks me dear thanks. It just pops in my mind. I gave another simile earlier on Game of Thrones board, the dude playing Jon Snow, he does the exact same facial expression acting wise, so I said he’s like the Keanu Reeves of The Westeros “Woa dude woa, we’re the knights of the wall, woa!” something like that…

  4. T.Fanty says:

Oscar, schmoscar. The real question should be who would you rather? DDL or Hugh Jackman? A girl could strain herself trying to answer that question.

    • Ms Kay says:

I’d pick DDL wolf eyebrows over Van Helsing/Wolverine combined! Would love to see if his love making method (read : f!cking) is as Oscar worthy as his acting method.

      • T.Fanty says:

I’m inclined to agree. If he’s THAT method, one assumes that a little direction could go a long way.

On the other hand, I’m currently eating cookies in my sweat pants and the knowledge that HJ can get hot for a woman who doesn’t mind letting herself go is quite appealing.

      • LeeLoo says:

On that note, has she lost weight?

      • Ms Kay says:

@ Leeloo, she seems likely, but at times it depends on the clothes she might be wearing…

@ T. Fanty, in my sweat pants too, eating delicious homemade tiramisu. Ah well a man who doesn’t mind that sort of thing is always welcome in my books. As for DDL, I imagine him playing your body like a mute Holly Hunter in The Piano… Intense at its best booyaaaaaahh! Alreet must calm down…

      • LeeLoo says:

Ms. Kay you keep your tiramisu to yourself or figure out a way to share! I’d say come and bring me some but I don’t think you want strep throat.

      • Ms Kay says:

@ Leeloo pear tiramisu, where should I send it? 😉 ahhh good luck with the throat, get well soon.

Mah god all the dresses are meh so far!

    • mia girl says:

Can not compute, can not compute.. Danger! Danger! Biscuit-System overload!

    • LeeLoo says:

That’s easy! I would humbly ask Debbie Furness’ permission to borrow Hugh for 24 hours…it would be around the same time my devoted one would be asking Christina Hendricks’ husband for permission. 😛

Don’t get me wrong DDL is quite attractive. The problem with DDL I would be too afraid of the idea he is immersing himself in a role and I would be sleeping with said character and not the actual Daniel Day-Lewis.

      • flor says:

The sad thing is that he seems to be so manipulative of his wife. He probably refuses to have sex while he prepares for his role because ~his character wouldn’t do it~

      • Ranunculus says:

You can almost feel all the method techniques in DDL’s performances, as its not a human being anymore he is trying to portrait. Humility and subtlety is missing in all his performances. Anyway I am not a fan of him anyway, he is a bit too full of himself for my liking.

    • j.eyre says:

Had you put Hugh up against Ewan or Liam (Neeson, not Hemsworth) yes, I would have burst something.

Since you have proposed this scenario, I will stick by Hugh, thank you.

      • T.Fanty says:

        Really? There’s anyone above Ewan?

It suddenly occurs to me that we need a March Madness style contest, complete with bracketing system to establish the ultimate Celebitchy dong. Kind of like what Go Fug Yourself does, but with hot men.

It would be awesome. We could have categories like “dorks,” “guilty pleasures” and “forever dongs.”

ETA: oh dear me, Ms. Kay just quoted Olivier. Would it be tasteless to include a “dead dong” category?

      • mia girl says:

        T. Fanty – what a GREAT idea. I’ll help organize.
And like @j eyre, Ewan and Hugh are my tops…and bottoms, and behinds, etc etc ha!

      • j.eyre says:

Absolutely. Start drawing up the plans at once.

(can we arrange this kind of thing without asking? Don’t we kind of have to run this by management?)

And no – there is no one better than Ewan. It would still hurt me to say no to Hugh – always.

      • T.Fanty says:

You know, drawing up the brackets might actually be more fun than the actual voting process itself. If the SAGs get boring, maybe we’ll start taking hypothetical nominations.

(it’s not like I’m supposed to be drafting a class plan for tomorrow, or anything. Oh, hold on…)

  5. LeeLoo says:

I really want to like DDL but his method acting irks me. He’s the annoying overachiever at school when it comes to awards I like what I can see of Debbie’s dress but the pink wrap has got to go.

  6. Mira says:

I don’t think Hugh should win just because DDL has two Oscars. That’s a faulty logic. If someone gives five mind blowing performances, he/she should win all five times. I’m rooting for DDL. I love Hugh but Les Mis was a long yawn for me. I’m rooting for Joaquin to get the Academy award.

    • LeeLoo says:

It is faulty logic. But DDL needs to quit being the hardcore overachiever. Joaquin’s character in The Master disturbed me but if it can’t be Hugh, let it be Joaquin.

      • flor says:

Joaquin should win but DDL has won pretty much 95% of all the critics awards out there. Joaquin doesn’t stand a chance, sadly.

    • Mira says:

Hardcore overachiever? What’s that supposed to mean? He has an acting technique like all actors do and his seems to be more detailed than the others. The man does one movie in five years and his commitment is there for all to see. His acting technique is not liked by a lot of people but that does not mean he’s an overachiever. He’s competitive like everyone else but also intensely committed. Other actors don’t make one movie in five years.

  7. mia girl says:

I know DDL is sublime, but I’m rooting for Hugh.

He won’t win the SAG (maybe Les Miserable has a chance at the Cast SAG), but I think given the voting block and his history with the Academy, he has a chance at the Best Actor Oscar.

  8. Kaiser says:

Elie Kemper has my favorite dress thus far. God, this carpet is super-boring!!!

    • Heather says:

I like Helen Hunt’s dress, and Julianne Moore’s dress is hideous!

      • j.eyre says:

I am kind of laughing here because I can’t even find what you guys are watching so I am watching the Pro Bowl. Juxtaposing tackles and turf-eating with your discussion of gowns is proving quite entertaining.

  9. Kaiser says:

Helen Hunt has kind of a cat-face these days, right?

  10. Mr.Smurf says:

I really want Joaquin to win, just to see his speech.

I also really want Anne to lose…my God that would be epic! Just like that time when Sacha Baron Cohen, at the Golden Globes made fun of her flashing the paparazzi….she had the widest, fakest grin I’ve ever seen.

She was trying hard not to cry.

    • LeeLoo says:

The little sadistic schadenfreude devil in me WANTS AnnE to have an epic meltdown of Kanye West proportions if she loses at The Oscars. I know that’s harsh but I can’t stand her prissy high maintainance attitude and her speech at the GGs just made me want to throw something at the tv.

    • T.Fanty says:

THe problem with the SAG award though, is that the speeches are all terribly lame. Lots of self-congratulation and comments about how much more the award means because it comes from peers. Anne Hathaway’s speech would be even more vomit-inducing under such circumstances.

      • LeeLoo says:

I’m hoping she loses at the SAGs because everyone in Hollywood feels the same way about her that we do.

      • T.Fanty says:

        hahahhahaaha! That makes me laugh.

I keep expecting her to beat Sally Field, get up to the podium and in all sincerity to say “you really like me!” and not at all realize the obnoxiousness of it.

      • j.eyre says:

Aaaahhh! AnnE acceptance speech drinking game!
        1) every time she clutches the award to her chest – drink
        2) every time she refers to herself – the person nearest the tv drinks
        3) false modesty efforts – shot
        4) if she starts her speech by clutching the side of her head like her head can’t process that she won – everyone changes seats and drinks from that glass

        Please add your inclusions…

      • T.Fanty says:

        Miss Eyre,

It’s a thirty second speech, and we would still all be hammered by the end of it. If we’re going to do this, I need to get more liquor. I only have two bottles of wine in the fridge.

      • j.eyre says:

I am making my Manhattan right now. Suck it up, woman! Ewan would want you to prove yourself worthy.

      • flor says:

“I will never forget this day because you truly changed my life. I wanted to become an actor all my life and studied so hard to become one and now, being recognised by all of you truly makes me believe in myself and my talent. I knew before I was talented by I never truly believed in myself. THANKS ACTORS FOR ASSURING ME I CAN BE ALL I WANT IN LIFE AND FOR MAKING ME BELIEVE”

Anne’s speech will sound like that.

      • T.Fanty says:

        BBLLLRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHH.

And the sound of seventy thousand people simultaneously vomiting on their television sets will sound like that.

@ Miss Eyre: Okay! Cracking open a bottle right now. It’s going to be group discussion in class tomorrow!

      • j.eyre says:

@Flor – 15 references to herself – down a bottle of vodka. For guessing her speech exactly – chase it with 12 shots of tequila and lime

@TFan – take a shot for, uhm, i dunno – a Tima Fey reference? And put on a hat. Round to you.

  11. flor says:

CB, what about the ladies? Jessica Chastain, JLaw or Naomi? Who will win?
I think Jessica hs more support because she is an actors’ actor.
JLaw gave the most showy performance and people love her and her movie.
Naomi has a lot of support too but I don’t know if it is enough for her to win.

    • j.eyre says:

Tough one. I think Chastain for SAG as well. Isn’t she Juilliard – that may influence actors. JLaw may still see that Oscar but I think Chastain may get it for this one.

      • T.Fanty says:

        I agree. She’s on a roll.

      • flor says:

I think that if JLaw doesn’t win the SAG she is out of the race because the Academy really loved Amour so Emannuelle Riva could surprise.
I’m rooting for Jessica because her performance was fantastic. Any other actress would have overacted it but Jessica didn’t.

    • A says:

I think it very well may be Watts. All the ladies gave good to great performances in my opinion, but I thought Riva blew them all away. It’s interesting how some of the Oscar bloggers will straight out say they think JenLaw or Jessica Chastain or Watts may win, but that they wish Riva would win. It kind of drives home the point that so much has to do with campaigning and being in the right kind of film and in an English language film. Poor Riva has done absolutely no campaigning. Anyway, the reason I think it will be Watts is because she is so popular among the industry people (RDJ flat out pimped her out in front of JenLaw and Chastain at some event) and those industry people are the ones that decide the awards for SAG and Oscar unlike the critics awards. Secondly, it’s the kind of role the academy eats up…(white) mother fighting for her kids and survival. Lastly, Watts is a fantastic, established actress who has never won before. I think JenLaw and Chastain will cancel each other out, and Riva will be hampered by it being a French language performance and not promoting and Wallis is too young. That said, Chastain is also popular and considered a “serious actress” and was freaking awesome in Zero Dark Thirty. Like it was stated, she’s Julliard trained…I think a lot of people respect her.

      • j.eyre says:

I like the canceling each other out theory. I am interested to see what happens.

      • flor says:

Hopefully! Riva was SO fantastic! But, sadly, she was not nominated today because they nominated Marion (who was fantastic too). But she will take home the BAFTA and that will put her in front of the pack.

I think that whoever loses today is out of the race because there is no way for Riva to lose the BAFTA and so she will become the frontrunner next to whoever wins today. Hopefully, Jessica or Naomi because they were wonderful.

Oh, I read the other day that every. single. actor that is part of SAG gets to vote so that really complicates things. We are, after all, talking about 14000+ members!

      • A says:

@Flor. Oops, I was thinking too far ahead to the Oscars when I mentioned Riva instead of Marion. I loved loved loved Marion’s performance, and was disappointed that she wasn’t nominated for the Oscar. If I had to pick the top three female performances, I would go 1) Riva 2) Marion 3) Chastain. But…Marion is la française, and only one foreign language pick was going to be let in. Regardless of whether it is SAG or Oscar, I really do think JenLaw and Chastain very well may cancel each other out and leave Watts with the statue. Still wishing for Riva, though, in terms of the Oscar.

    • Ms Kay says:

And just like that JLaw won…….. O_O

  12. Ms Kay says:

Eddie Redmayne should lose the weird velvet look he is trying lately, something not quite right right here.

    • flor says:

Agree. But probably he doesn’t tell his stylist he doesn’t like it because he can’t see!

      • T.Fanty says:

Hahahahaha! He’s squinting so hard, all he can see in front of him is a dark blob on a hanger.

  13. Heather says:

Battle of the navy dresses…who looked better, JLaw or Amanda Seyfriend? I think Amanda looked UHHmazing, but she gives an awkward interview.

  14. Lucy2 says:

I like the gowns worn by Jennifer Lawrence, Helen Hunt, amd Amanda Seyfried. Jessica Chastain- another huge improvement over the Golden globes.
That manicure cam has to be the stupidest thing ever.
    Lots of severe hairstyling.

  15. T.Fanty says:

Sofia Vergra is starting to become like nails on a chalkboard for me.

  16. Kaiser says:

Love Jennifer Lawrence’s dress! Don’t care for Chastain’s entire look, but kudos to her for finding a dress that fits!

January Jones looks like a Terminator fem-bot. Gross.

    • flor says:

I like JLaw’s dress too! But it’s quite weird, isn’t it? It’s like a short dress with more fabric under.

    • MisJes says:

Oh my god, SO HAPPY FOR JENNIFER LAWRENCE! She is amazing, another lovely speech, she completely deserved that award. Ah I’m so excited for her!

  17. tabasco says:

    *already* want to slap hathaway

  18. Ms Kay says:

Naomi Watts in cheap Marchesa… It explains why Liev Schreiber was wearing them sunglasses, to hide his swollen red eyes after having cried from despair and cursing at Weinstein.

  19. lucy2 says:

Lady Mary of Downton Abbey has ridiculous side boobage showing. I’d be so uncomfortable in that!
Naomi Watts looks pretty in (gasp) Marchesa.
Don’t care for Ellie or Morena’s, or Nancy O’Dell’s.
    Jen Garden looked good.
Kerry Washington looks pretty, not sure I like the dress though.
Giuliana is a huge improvement over her Globes look. I kind of like Kelly’s dress too.

Only saw the upper portion of Marion’s but it seemed to suit her. She’s sick though, must be awful to have to do this not feeling well.

  20. T.Fanty says:

Ooo, Julianne Moore brought out the girls tonight. She looks fab, and very glam.

  21. MisJes says:

Sigh, this red carpet was far far better than the Golden Globes!

Dresses I LOVED so far: Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Lawrence (and with pneumonia, poor thing), Julie Bowden, Tina Fey. They all looked immaculate!

Dresses I didn’t: Claire Danes (very dated), Julianne Moore, Lea Michele and Sofia Vergara (the unfinished trim).

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

I only caught bits & pieces. I usually like Claire Danes, but thought her makeup was hideous. Amanda Seyfried finally pulled it all together–love her dress, hair, and makeup. Liked what I saw of Nicole Kidman’s dress, and thought Marion Cotillard looked fabulously amazing.

  22. Ms Kay says:

Waahhh Busy Philips dahhling what is that homemade blue seashells necklace?? The best accessory you should have brought along is Michelle Williams methinks.

    • T.Fanty says:

You’re still watching the red carpet? You do know that Gary Oldman is on TNT, right?

      • Ms Kay says:

I’m on multi-satellite and multi-screen version on TV so I watch simultaneously backward/forward.. A hell of an exercise 😀

Gary Oldman?? The Actor’s Actor’s Actor??? *flails* *grabs remote control*

      • T.Fanty says:

Oh that sounds much more fancy than my TV. I’m supposed to be working, so I’m watching it with the sound down. I think it’s actually more entertaining reading the CB commentary and ogling pretty people without having to listen to them.

  23. LeeLoo says:

I WANT Kerry Washington’s Rodarte dress!

Also, Sally Field pulled off making an ugly dress look absolutely amazing on her.

    • Ms Kay says:

      I don’t really feel Kerry Washington dress… 🙁

Agree on Sally Field. Nicole Kidman I find her meh.

      • LeeLoo says:

I want it to be my wedding dress. It looks good on her. I could do without the weird silver beads though.

  24. T.Fanty says:

Marion Coutillard, or Katy Perry? WTF? I’m so confused.

  25. mia girl says:

Oh my lord, what is this voice over intro for SAGs?! “Hey Daniel Day Lewis”

    • T.Fanty says:

The SAGs hurt my head a little, because they just try way too hard. They’re like the Anne Hathaway of award shows.

  26. Ms Kay says:

What is Justin Timberlake doing here?

  27. flor says:

    OMG ANNE!!!!

  28. lisa2 says:

    Anne’s speech..
    Anne’s speech..
    Anne’s speech…

funny thing was the camera caught Naomi Watts taking a drink when Anne went up to get her award.. for some reason it made me laugh out loud.

  29. debbie says:

Damn it!!! I am so disappointed AnnE won. I honestly just hate her now. Her speech was eye roll worthy.

  30. T.Fanty says:

Okay, so I’m bored. Anyone want to do Dong Madness (management permitting)?

    I’m thinking:
    – forever dong
    – nerdy dong
    – beefcake dong
    – sentimental dong
    – guilty pleasure dong
    – expired dong

    Any more categories?

    • j.eyre says:

Newcomer Dong? On A Dare Dong?

Love Sentimental Dong. Not ready to sign off on Beefcake Dong. Can we rename to If He Promises Not to Talk Dong?

I need to be honest. I got to caught up in the Pro Bowl (American Football) so I am recording the SAGs for later. I will check the blog for updates.

      • T.Fanty says:

Sold on all fronts. I think we also need to add a “wish I didn’t…” dong. I’m saying that mostly because I have abandoned the SAGs and am watching Matt Smith in Doctor Who. Actually, we should include a “fictional dong” category. Literary and cinematic.

      • j.eyre says:

Oh Lord yes – Wish I Didn’t Dong!

I love Fictional Or Literary Dong but let’s hold off until management signs off on the CBBC (CB Book Club).

      • T.Fanty says:

My entire early twenties could probably fit under that category.

Ohhh, the CBBC. I missed that thread, but I want it to happen so very much.

  31. Ms Kay says:

Jennifer Garner is confused, she is dressed like an Oscar golden statuette, she should’ve saved that one for the Oscars in question methinks. Now Ben Affleck is going to be blinded and hold her tight and give a confused speech on the SAG stage : “I’d like to thank the Academy…”

    • T.Fanty says:

That’s probably why she’s doing it. To get a little enthusiasm out of him.

      • Ms Kay says:

Haha well hopefully it works for her, because dude has his eyes on the actual prize so better not give him false hope.

OK watching him and Hugh chatting up and laughing was yummy.. Hmmm-mmm-hmmm guuurrrl!

  32. lisa2 says:

    Congrats to the winners..

but I HATE WHEN THE SAME SHOWS WIN YEAR AFTER YEAR.. seriously are they saying none of the new shows are better?.. well that would be a LIE

  33. lucy2 says:

Wow, production value of the opener was terrible! I swear the announcer said something like “There’s Jessica Chastain of Zero Dark Thirty, looking like…zero dark thirty.” It was so bad, and the elevator music, ugh.

Happy for Tina and Alec in their last year, wish the whole cast had won. (At least it wasn’t Glee, how did they get nominated?)

    • Ms Kay says:

Well probably dressing like pompom girls, going commando dowb there and doing backflips in front of them peers and a bj got them there… Because other than that I don’t see how, Glee is a joke of a show!

      Yay for Bryan Cranston!!

Claire Danes for the win hands down!

  34. Jayna says:

Did anyone see Alec Baldwin’s wife walking on the red carpet with him? What a fame ho. She acted like she was the star. Well. stars don’t even pose and walk like that.

    • Shira says:

Are we not talking about Alec’s hair? It looks… suspicious.

      • T.Fanty says:

I couldn’t stop looking at it. It felt exactly like when CB pointed out Sean Penn’s rug. How did we not see this before?

      • Jayna says:

Not to me. All four of the Baldwin brothers still have a very thick head of hair. His new haircut is his wife’s doing trying to make him hip.

  35. Jayna says:

Jennifer Lawrence looked beautiful. Loved the dress. Her hair color was so pretty against her skin and eyes. Nicole’s face looked really normal tonight. I love her accent. Naomi Watts is so pretty. Loved her makeup.

  36. Shira says:

I wanna hate Jen so bad for looking so damn perfect with a goddamn walking pneumonia, but I can’t – I just adore her!!!

  37. Ms Kay says:

Forgot to comment on that one, I think Marion Cotillard should tell Dior to take a seat and may be hook up with another brand, as it keeps getting sad one outfit after the other. That bow tie on the front was a tragic fail.. Hell the whole thing was!

  38. Sal says:

Am I the only one who DIDN’T like Jennifer Lawrence’s look? Makeup is too dark, you can tell she’s pale from being sick. Not a good combination. And the dress…a navy strapless prom dress. Blah.

    • flor says:

The fashion world really does not know what to put her on. All her dresses are too old for her or funny looking. This one looked great but then it seems it is a short dress with a longer fabric under it and when she went on stage it opened and almost rip apart.

      • lisa2 says:

I have been saying his for ages. They don’t know how to portray her. And that is why her dress choices are so all over the place. I loved the fit of the dress, but when she was on stage it lost something. Maybe the spark because she was sick. She looked dull for some reason. Again it could be the sickness. I think she has to find her style. Right now she seems to wear whatever they pull for her. not much input. It will be interesting to see how her style develops as time goes on. I loved her RED dress when she was nominated for WB. That looked like “her”.

    • MisJes says:

Completely disagree. She is stunning in that CD gown, it’s a beautiful fit and I think the navy colour and the beautifully done hair/make-up highlights her lovely skin, she doesn’t even look as sick as she is tonight – that’s great styling.
SO happy she won the award! She was amazing in SLP, love her!

    • Shira says:

It was Jennifer’s night all around. I thought she looked AMAZING. And I’m not too happy about most of her fashion choices (Rachel be gone!) – tonight she looked classic and phenomenal.

    • nina says:

Didn’t like the look. Thought she looked great in that red number for the oscars that one time-it was youthful and fresh looking. Sometimes they overdo her makeup and it makes her look like a kid playing with mamna’s compact. Didn’t like the dress either but she looked cute. I just think she can be a bombshell when dressed right.

  39. Megan says:

Is anyone else starting to wonder if JLaw is one of Harvey’s girls? I mean he has a history of picking young actresses to sleep with and then cast in everything and she is just WAY to affectionate and ass kissy with him.

    • Jayna says:

      She’s so not the type.

    • Peta says:

Megan you read my mind and post what I’m too timid to post. Weinstein’s rep is just so gross. I always wonder about every actress cast in films he backs.

That being said I still love JLaw and am happy she won tonight.

      • Megan says:

I was happy for her, but this was the second speech that was so over the top with him and his reps plus all the blind items of him looking for a new young actress to “back” just really made me wonder.

I know she was great and deserved it but if one day I hear that she was one of his girls I would not be surprised.

Loved her dress and thought her speech (outside of the Harvey thing) was great.

    • Shira says:

I’m gonna pretend you didn’t REALLY mean that.

She also called DOR love of her life.
And she’s also extremely touchy with Bradley.

    • Ms Kay says:

Still reeling that she won… Weinstein is The (friggin’) Master dammit!

    • nina says:

I think his influence has definitely benefitted her this season. I think she’s such a talent already, but I don’t think SLP should be the project that gets her in an oscar in a year of such strong contenders. But Weinstein definitely has worked his magic. I don’t think she’s his wink wink kinda girl, but he likes blondes with boobs so she better watch out.

      • flor says:

You are spot on. Jennifer is a very good young actress but SLP was NOT Oscar friendly and it wouldn’t have had all those nomination hadn’t Harvey been on their side.

Jennifer, right now, is a Harvey’s product so yes, she is a Harvey girl.

I made the mistake to say this on a Kristen Stewart post the other day and all the fangirls attacked me.

  40. Shira says:

    JENNIFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Jayna says:

Viola Davis’ gown was gorgeous on her.

  42. Mira says:

Love DDL for mentioning Joaquin 🙂

  43. Ms Kay says:

Here is a hint : next time DDL pulls a new movie out, the message should be passed on so the other contenders don’t even bother campaigning/compete against him?

The man is a walking bulldozer, crushing any possible hope for the others… Damn!

    • Lauli says:

Agree with you. I’ve yet to find something in which I didn’t like him, apart from the singing in Nine. LOL

  44. Megan says:

So happy for Argo!!! One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long long time

  45. Susan says:

I love DDL and he gave a great performance in Lincoln but Hugh just blows everyone away as Valjean. Not easy to act through singing but Hugh is even better in a musical than in a dialogue role. DDL certainly couldn’t do as well as Valjean, given his ordinary turn in the musical “Nine” a few years back. Hugh deserves this year” oscar!

  46. lisa2 says:

What happened with Jennifer’s dress. I saw a weird video of it on another site. did it split or was it in two pieces or what.

Well I got work tomorrow. Just one more Awards show and this is all over.. Congrats again to the winners but it was a boring show.

    night.

    • MisJes says:

It started to spIit when she got up to collect her award, apparently the original design of the gown included a sheer panel, which they altered out at the last minute. I thought considering there was a hole of increasing size forming as she walked, the fact that she kept her cool and held it together, knowing that this was happening in front of everyone, was so commendable! She showed such class and professionalism, you wouldn’t have realised anything was wrong when she was on stage.

  47. mia girl says:

Thanks for the open post Kaiser, CB and BH.

On an entirely unrelated note – while I enjoyed the Ellen story in the “featured links” box from Friday, can’t wait until tomorrow for the box picture to be updated.
I’m sick of seeing Mario Lopez’s junk in his trunk! It’s starting to gross me out.

  48. citygirlsf says:

DDL gets better looking every year.

He needs to share his secrets with George Clooney.

    Meow.

  49. Aqua says:

Did anyone else find the SAG awards boring last night? and did anyone else notice the “lack” of couples or is this just me?
