Anne Hathaway ‘in shock’ over backlash against her, she’s been crying nonstop

You know what bugged me about the Anne Hathaway Backlash (meaning the original backlash against Anne, not the backlash against the backlash)? I was annoyed that everybody started hating on her on Oscar night when really she had been MUCH more annoying in the months preceding the Oscars. Anne’s Oscar campaign (beav-flashing, incessant weight loss talk, endless conversations about her hair) was a pain in the ass. While I thought her Oscar Nips and her little-girl voice were supremely annoying, it was just the cherry on top of Anne’s insufferable campaign. Still, you know I’m a Hathaway Apologist. I like her despite her annoying campaign and her Oscar Nips and Oscar Beav. I like the “real” Anne. The real Anne is a pill, a drama geek, a nerd. The real Anne is a talented professional who judges you for not being more like her. I want her to go back to that version of herself.

Anyway, Anne has been reading what you Hathahaters have been saying, and she’s super-sad about it. She wants to quit acting because you guys treat her like she’s worse than Osama Bin Laden!

It’s not every celebrity that can say they’re more despised than Osama Bin Laden. A Google search for ‘Anne Hathaway‘ and ‘hate’ yields a staggering 31 million hits — while a similar search about the terrorist mastermind results in only 21 million.

Such is the state of Anne’s crumbling reputation among audiences. Anne may have nabbed the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, but she’s losing the popularity contest in a major way and is desperate to repair her image.

“Anne’s in shock and has been in tears over it nonstop,” a source discloses. “She’s even sobbed to one friend that she feels like leaving the business for good and vanishing, like Brigitte Bardot… She’s really worked herself up.”

Ironically, those irksome theatrics are to blame for her bad rap. As Anne’s star rose, so did her air of saccharine smugness and transparent self-congratulation. But Anne is baffled.

“She’s in a real mess over it and keeps asking her husband, ‘Why?’ She keeps trawling the Internet looking for answers, but it only makes her feel worse. It’s put her in a really dark place.”

She’s determined to turn the tide of public opinion – “She’s starting to realize that she needs to relax and stop that irritating fawning and gushing thing. She wants to be taken seriously, but instead she’s just coming across as manufactured and desperate.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

For the love of…!!! I feel like that opening paragraph was something from The Onion. “Half of all Americans think Anne Hathaway is WAY wore insufferable than Bin Laden. 33% of Americans think Ayman al-Zawahiri should wear more jewel tones. One-quarter of Americans think Gwyneth Paltrow is coordinating no-carb, no-daily diets with al Qaeda.” For what it’s worth (meh), Gossip Cop got a quote from Anne’s rep who says that this report is crap and Anne “is about to commit to her next project” and she’s about to begin voice work on Rio 2. My advice to Anne still holds – earlier this month, I advised Anne to keep her head down for a few months, then come back with one or two interviews about how she was “hurt” by the backlash, but not TOO hurt and woe-is-me. I also think there’s a good chance that Anne will get pregnant this year and that will give everyone something new to focus on.

Aw. It’s okay Anne. Just get out of our faces for awhile. We’ll find someone else to hate.

    • V4Real says:

“More insufferable than Bin Laden” Well we all know what happen to him.

Anne I suggest you stay away from Celebitcy because you would need therapy and meds after reading most of these comments. That being said, she is insufferable but like you said Skipper if she goes away for awhile we will find somebody else. I’m all in on the Goop.

    • mssnarnd says:

      She makes me cry non-stop.

    • Liv says:

She can be thankful that she didn’t lose her husband after winning the Oscar. Or does the curse just apply to best actresses?

  2. brin says:

Awwww, she’s probably saying in her best Sally Field voice, “You hate me, you really hate me!”

  3. marie says:

“I never dreamed my life would be..”

I don’t hate her, that requires effort. I just don’t care to watch or read her interviews. Take a step back, I’ll forget my annoyance.. unless she’s in the remake of “My Fair Lady” then all bets are off, but I would dislike anoyone in that remake.

    • Stormy says:

My gah is that a thing??? Why would they re-cast and have her starring in it?

    • Quasi says:

I’ve been saturated with her image, but she’s no different for me than the other annoying, oscar-campaigning actors e.g. Ben Affleck and his fakeness.

I would suggest she diversify e.g. do some stage work, documentaries, charity work for awhile and let the noise settle down.

  4. blah says:

o_0 reading about yourself on the internet is beyond disturbing . I’m sorry but if she really does that it only speaks of narcissism not victimization. I mean she’d have to type in her name in search engines and scroll around – reading about herself.

    Disturbing.

    • Annie says:

I think it’s important for actors to know if they’re congenialiy has been compromised. Anne needs to be liked. Her career depends on it. I’d be worried too.

      • gg says:

Same here. I like her a lot.

      • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

Agreed..but that’s what you have publicists and managers for. They should bear the burden of your public image, one way or another. And I would think not Google-ing yourself is a smart thing for someone like her to say the least.

    • bns says:

I’m pretty sure almost all celebrities Google themselves.

      • Silk Spectre says:

Dude, I’m no celebrity and I google myself from time to time too. I thought almost everyone did. It’s mostly just idle curiosity, but it would be totally depressing to get a ton of “that chick sucks and is fat and ugly” hits.

Edit Or in other words, I think blah is reaching with the narcissism thing.

      • V4Real says:

@Silk after reading Blah’s comment I said the same thing. I google myself and I’m nobody or as thet say, I think I’m A+List with D List name recognition.

But I’ve even said how in the hell did Google get my address? The government got us all on watch.

      • LAK says:

From a gossip standpoint,Celebrity or not, why would you google yourself? That’s like standing behind groups of people listening to THEIR opinion of you. It’s never a good idea because whatever that opinion is, it’s primarily THEIR issues projecting on to you as opposed to the truth.

And if you don’t have a thick skin to brush it off, it’s the worst circle of hell because rarely do people gossip about the goodness of others.

It’s a terrible thing to do to yourself.

      • V4Real says:

Oh there is nothing wrong woth Googling yourself. At times it could work in your favor; you can find out what people like or don’t like about you if you care enough. If I was a celebrity, (not just in my head) I would definetely Google myself. I might want to know what people are saying about the latest flick I was in or my latest song. They might give me some insight to what I could have done better or why it didn’t work for them. I would even frequent movie theaters that were showing my latest film just to see how the audience reacted to it. I could care less about the Hollywood premier of the movie because industry people are going to tell you to your face, oh your film was great but then behind closed doors tell others how crappy they think my movie was.

On another note at least people on the gossip sites( who I don’t know) are most likely to be less pretentious than the circle of friends I might run with in Tinsletown; the kind that says nice things about you to your face and to the press but behind my back they are plotting to knock me off the throne and can’t stand my ass. I bet some of the biggest haters in Hollywood are people who work in the industry. Wasn’t it our friend Goop who stole the Script from her BFF Wynona Ryder for “Shakespear In Love.”

      • LAK says:

@v4real : that is the most idealist defence of gossiping I have ever read. Too bad that’s not how gossip works.

Celebrities have people trained to deal in gossip, they are called Publicists/PRs. What you are describing is a professional reason that wouldn’t touch a celebrity unless they chose to bypass this layer of protection the way annE is doing.

What about personal gossip, which is rarely positive? This happens to everyone whether they are celebrities or not. what if people are posting irrational things about you, describing you in numerous, imaginatively negative and personal ways. How can deal with it? What if you don’t agree with their opinion of you? What if you find out that who you thought you were wasn’t at all how you were perceived, are you telling me that wouldn’t damage your pysche? We all think we are strong, blah blah blah but in truth, we hide parts of who we are and show different faces to the world. AnnE is in shock right now, if we are to believe various reports, that the world dislikes her strongly. the very same qualities that we loved are now the very same qualities we hate. So what can she do? It would have been better not to know. She has professional handlers to turn OUR perception of her back without annE needing to make any changes because frankly, no matter what she does, someone is bound not to like her.

The other celebrity who illustrates my point is LeAnn. She’s so obsessed with our opinion she needs twihab. And she can’t stop until we all have the same opinion of her as she has of herself. She needs to STOP googling herself and get off all of social media because it is damaging her personally, not just professionally.

People talking about you behind your back rarely say good things about you, so you don’t stick around to hear them. Googling yourself is the same as sticking around to hear what they are saying. Changing who you are because of what you’ve overheard takes a high level of self awareness and I guess a lack of cenceit to recognise that perhaps what is being said about you is true and requires changing. However, what if the gossips are wrong? Their words (or internet posts) are just going to hurt you. And even if they are wrong, you will still be left wondering what you could have done for this wrong to happen.

      • Mira says:

LAK – Agree with everything you say. Googling oneself for pure professional reasons – reading reviews of your films – work differently than googling to see what people think of you as a celerity (and not as an actor). Even then some actors don’t take movie critiques in a constructive manner, whether or not they are harsh. Any critique that questions a performance is bound to hurt an actor unless he/she is self-aware to see it in a constructive way, reflect on it and decide on what needs to be changed. Most actors are extremely defensive. Hell most people are defensive almost always.

      • normality says:

ditto. I think a lot of them claim not too, and they want us to believe that they never notice the world-wide dramas that they create, but…bitch, please. If they don’t read about themselves or at least let a hired member of their staff report back to them, how is it they ALWAYS know what to address in an interview to counteract the gossip? Sheesh. We’re not ignorant, hollywood. But I do feel like if I were in their position, I would sometimes let curiosity get the best of me. And the internet is brutal to celebrities. Let’s be honest.

      • V4Real says:

@Lak okay if you want to talk personally about people who google themselves who are not famous like you and me, we can do that. You seem to be very sensitive and if you were the target of gossip you probably couldn’t handle it. I on the other hand could because I do have thick skin. Regular people like you and me get talked about all the time. Have you heard some of the crap that people put on FB and Twitter about others. Have you heard of cyber bullying that has led some people to commit suicide? Don’t get me wrong, no one wants to hear negative comments about themselves or have to deal with character assasination but we live in a world where this is the norm. You mentioned earlier about being in line and over hearing people talking negative about you (not you personally; I’m just paraphrasing). That wouldn’t bother me because I would now know who those people were. What would bother me is people pretending to be cool with me but talk sh-t behind my back. If I don’t know who you are how can I cut all ties with you. Are you telling me you’re cool with people or so called friends talking crap about you as long as you don’t know who they are or what they said?
But like I said, I have thick skin and if people I know are gossiping about me; hell yes I want to know about it so I don’t continue to keep the company of such people. I don’t live my life with blinders on. Even posters on this site have posted negative comments about other posters if they don’t like or agree with what was said. I’ve had it happen to me but I don’t give a damn. I’m not going to let what some stranger said on a blog who hides behind a fake name or even someone I may know hold my life hostage.

    • lamamu says:

Actually, I think it’s more masochistic than narcissistic. She lives in the world, after all, and needs to know, but she also needs to protect herself. I think this girl for all of her great talent has really low self-esteem, which may be at the heart of it all.

      • gg says:

        Yep, this.

      • Liv says:

Don’t you all remember the round table where she was asked – among other actors – if she would google herself and she said no. When the other actors admit that they would google themselves she backpedaled and confessed she would do too. Was a bit embarrassing.

  5. momosays says:

Love the skirt in the bottom pics…..ID anyone? Or know of similar styles?

  6. lucy2 says:

I would hope this is false and she’s not really reading about herself, because I don’t think that is every healthy.
She doesn’t need to stop working, she just needs to not do publicity for a while. It was overload, people reached their limit.

  7. poppy says:

she isn’t going to go away. ever.
its in her blood. if she doesn’t perform for more than a week she gets the jazz hands real bad!

    ps. annE, ditch stephen huvane

  8. A says:

Ugh. She so gets on my nerves.

  9. LadyMTL says:

I actually used to be a big Hathaway fan until she crammed her faux-humility and “oh my gosh!!” saccharine cr*p down my throat – for me it started way before the Oscars.

I don’t hate her but yeah, I want her to shut up and go away for a while.

    • NerdMomma says:

Me too, I thought her earnestness was cute until she overloaded on it. If the next 3 things I hear about Anne Hathaway are about her charity work, not movie projects, I will fall in love again. Doing good for others is a surefire way to get the public back on your side!

    • DreamyK says:

Me, too. Remember how sweet she was in Ella Enchanted?

AnnE was so calculating about this Oscar business that it was almost clinical. The worst part? Hugh Jackman was the personification of grace and elegance and he didn’t win. This is the same Hugh who kicked AnnE’s ass when it came to hosting the Oscar’s.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah me too. The Oscar campaign thing was annoying but I just tuned her out and ignored her shit for a while.

I still like her (like, not love) because I think she’s a talented actress in a sea of mediocrity but she needs to do as others suggest and go away for a while.

    • L says:

For me it started when she got nominated for ‘Rachel getting married’-just a horrible case of the smugs. Then it was just a build up over the last 18 months. Her attitude of getting cast in les Mis, her horrible BAFTA speech (where she thanked everyone from her hairstylist on), to her ungracious Globes moment (running up on stage and interrupting the producer to finish HER speech from earlier)), her yelling at people during a thank you speech about misspelling her name, to the numerous blech interviews—all coupled with a ‘gee oh shucks’ fake soft voice attitude that everyone saw through. None of these things were awful by themselves, but yea, I was super annoyed by the time the oscars came around.

Look, none of us really hate her-that takes to much time and effort. I think she’s a talented actress who bought into her own hype. She just way overplayed her need for the oscar, because there is a fine line between ambition and neediness in all actors-not just women. She needs to go away for a while and make us miss her. Also stop leaking the oh poor anne is upset stories, because it just feels like a play for sympathy.

  10. PHD Gossip says:

insufferable world class drama queen. Please go away forever.

  11. Annie says:

I know from people who worked on The Princess Diaries 2 that she’s not as nice as she makes herself be. She’s every bit as insufferable as you might expect. Not really super friendly either.

I used to like her up until her criminal Italian boyfriend. She was all over the dude. Look for some pap pics of this one time he sent her off in a limo, she takes off, stops mid street, gets off and runs to him like “I can’t leave you!!” And they hug. Fully aware the paps were there. That is Anne Hathaway. Every moment is a movie moment. Then the truth about the guy comes out and she immediately bails out on him, feelings be damned. She’s so fake.

Her Oscar campaign was the worst. Sit down, it’s only Best Supporting actress. It doesn’t count.

    • oliveo says:

“Every moment is a movie moment.” This rings so true. I can imagine Anne getting dressed with the help of singing birds– like Cinderella.

    • Erinn says:

      YES!
It’s how fake and over the top she is that drives me nuts. She has to live in her own little world, and god help anyone who gets in the way of it. I just can’t stand her anymore. I LOVED the Princess Diary movie when it came out, but I can’t handle her.

I found the whole criminal boyfriend thing really suspicious… I still think she knew more than she let on.

    • bluhare says:

There was a blind a couple of years ago about an actress who had enjoyed herself quite a bit in college and had purchased all the evidence so it doesn’t come out. Popular guess was Hathaway.

      • another nina says:

I don’t know about purchasing evidence part but I know for sure that she was neither geek nor nerd in the college. Not even close.

  12. Mia 4S says:

Yeah right to this story. This girl is not that dumb. She knows that in 5 minutes it will be totally uncool to hate on Anne. People are fickle.

Plus she’s actually talented and got major acclaim for Les Mis and Dark Knight. She’s one of the few who can say “forget the haters!” and not make me want to scream. Love or hate the personality, as an actress the majority opinion is she is really good.

    • hoopjumper says:

I bet she is hurt. She clearly wanted an Oscar reeaally bad, and to have the whole experience end with so many people openly annoyed at her, esp when they love JLaw so much…

But I totally agree with what you said about her talent. I used to be a little baffled that she kept landing role after role, but then I saw Rachel Getting Married and The Dark Knight. She can act. Like really, really act.

    • gefeylich says:

Nope, sorry; she’s not talented – in fact, her mediocre acting is what sets my teeth on edge about her the most. She’s a completely artificial, always-self-conscious actress who equates scenery-chewing with “great craft.”

Please. All I have to do is watch her laughable “high school drama student in a bad old lady wig” performance in Brokeback Mountain to be reminded how utterly awful she is. And yeah, she has a Supporting Actress Oscar, but so do Marisa Tomei, Tatum O’Neal (at 10) and Anna Paquin (at 12), and both kids outshined AnnE on all counts (because their performances were genuine).

I know that Hollywood is a repository for untalented, undeserving actors who are successful either because they service the right people or because they are very, very lucky (most likely both). But what rankles about Hathaway is that it’s obvious she wants to be worshiped as a great actress, and she’s just not. There’s a reason The Devil Wears Prada was stolen by Streep and Emily Blunt: both of them can actually ACT.

  13. truthful says:

I like her and I guess I missed what made everyone hate her. I was afraid to ask, cause it just seemed like all of a sudden, everyone hated her.

She’s a good actress, dare I say talented?

I’d much rather like her than some talentless attentionwhore “reality twit” who takes more photshoots than a supermodel.(for no reason)

I get it, she can be annoying sometimes
    but to each their own.

    • gg says:

      This.

    • minime says:

I don’t know about other people, but I really never liked her as an actress. I think she’s definitely over-rated. IMO, she has a monotone way of talking, she’s boring and all her characters look the same. It’s just too annoying for me to see any movie where she is because she has to much of this “saint” vibe mixed with bitchiness. She is like a grown-up version of Taylor Swift…As you said, to each their own, and I’m sure other people have different feelings for her, but I can also understand that a lot of people don’t like her acting and that’s maybe why the feelings towards her during the Oscar campaign were so harsh.

    • Lyn says:

I think she’s a really good actress, and the hate is over the top, but it will pass. I think she’s smart enough to wait it out and come back with a great role.

    • j.eyre says:

I did the swing-around. i loved her and then started to really dislike her. When everyone started disliking her, I swung back to liking her. It may have to do more with my contrariness than Anne, though.

I do think she is a good actor and ultimately, that is why I go to see people in movies.

  14. MAC says:

Her Oscar campaign was hers. No one did anything to her.

  15. Ranunculus says:

An Oscar win is not a guarantee for a long career and high profile roles.
Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Hillary Swank, Halle Berry are all winners and their careers seem to be going more or less downhill. I don’t even think Natalie Portman or Nicole Kidman are picking up interesting roles.
I always thought AnnE was some sort of a sycophant and incredibly phony. She got the Oscar because she campaigned her butt off, not because she is exceptionally talented. I think she should go home now and STFU.

    • EmmaStoneWannabe says:

I dont know if it’s coincidence, their spot in life, or once they got the Oscar they began focusing on more personal things, but…. most of those mentioned winners focused on their family after the Oscar win –
Sandra – insane, dramatic divorce, then adoption.
      Reese – married again
      Hillary – divorce
      Natalie – had a baby
Nicole – sat in her room crying on her Oscar night alone, realizing she wanted to be with someone to share her success in life…then came Keith

My point, I dont think their careers suffer bc of the win, I think it just puts a new perspective on their life and what’s really important. I can imagine for many actors, an Oscar win is the ultimate so they take a step back to focus on personal issues and family.

    • bluhare says:

They are also getting older. Kiss of death for actresses in Hollywood.

  16. Jenna says:

Is it wrong that I don’t care? Furthermore if she actually did quit (bitch, please. Who is she kidding?) I’d be fine with that too?

    • lily says:

I did like her in Devil Wears Prada. I haven’t seen her in anything else apart from Love and other drugs with Gyllenhaal. Didn’t like the movie as a whole.
Never cared much for her but she managed to annoy me during the award season.

I couldn’t care less if she quit tomorrow.

  17. Garvels says:

Anne should fire her PR person and her stylist(that Oscar dress was soooo the wrong choice), then she should just get back to basics and return to the original Anne. Her millions in the bank should keep her warm and cozy as the storm passes. What a tragedy….I think I am going to cry….there are so few people as worse off than poor Anne.

    • Sumodo1 says:

Doesn’t Rachel Zoe style AnnE? I haven’t seen much press about the perpetrator of the nips dress.

      • L says:

Yup-AND styled Jennifer Lawrence on the same night.

Now THAT would be something to get pissed about if I were AnnE. You knock it out of the park for one client and totally utterly fail on the other? I would be rethinking any stylist that did that to me stat.

  18. GoodCapon says:

“She keeps trawling the Internet looking for answers” Oh please. As if she does that.

Hollywood is a cut throat industry, you better have thick skin to make it to the top or at least not to be TOO bothered by the criticisms.

  19. eggnog says:

Her sweater in the above pics is perfect for grocery shopping. It looks like the little white styrofoam protectors they put around the super fancy fruit.

  20. mystified says:

On the plus side: at least her antics have over shadowed Natalie Portman’s from last year.

I sometimes think I’ve had about all I can take of them, but then again I would love to see a remake of “All About Eve” with Hathaway and Portman in the starring roles.

  21. Tessa says:

She reminds me of Julia Roberts sometimes. I swear they both practice their laughs, and they have an appropriate one for every occasion, ready to charm. It’s all rehearsed, nothing is genuine, every detail of their public persona completely false.

    • stinky says:

      so agree….
who knew Ms. Roberts would turn out to be the nasty one!
It seems shes a little viper after all.
Anne is just the ‘Tracey Flik’ of Hollywood 🙂
A fellow Celebitchy-sister called that, and its SO perfect. I never forgot.

  22. Hoya_chick says:

I don’t hate her. I find her insufferable. And that was long before the Oscar campaign. It just became more apparent to more people because it was so constant and in your face. Yuck.

If she is trolling the Internet looking for negative articles and comments about her self then she needs help! Who does that? I feel like it’s pretty easy to shut out all the noise if you want to. Turn off google alerts, don’t read tab or watch entertainment shows! I doubt complete strangers are coming up to her saying they hate her, so what’s the problem!?

She got her Oscar, so I don’t feel bad for her. She could have won on the buzz and the performance alone but she couldn’t help herself. She is so into herself. I can’t even wrap my head around it!

  23. Kiddo says:

Over exposure. Plain and simple. People don’t get sick of Daniel Day Lewis or Meryl Streep because they concentrate on their craft, and aren’t flapping their jaws constantly, talking about themselves. They are good at what they do, they concentrate on that instead of always trying to hone a public persona. Anne is showing poor acting skills because people aren’t buying the “I’m so surprised by all this attention” crap, because she is always seeking more attention.

Get love from your family. Don’t go away mad, just go away, AnnE.

  24. rachel says:

Ok- stop crying- we know how to handle this. The Whole Foods shopping trips REALLY helped Katie Holmes. We are going to have you go grocery shopping- what? Its when people pick out their own food– never mind, don’t worry about it- you are an actress, you will be fine! Anyway, we are going to have you in this store all by yourself in a hippy skirt and look, like, a little annoyed even- that people are taking pictures of you! You will look totally down to earth and like you are not looking for attention. Ok- hold on, this will take a few hours. We have to wipe all this red clown lipstick off and strip your toes. No, no, its not too much. People are gonna buy this, I swear. Just look natural. Let’s practice. Ok, no,no, you want look a LITTLE annoyed at the ‘paps’ but not THAT pissed! Not SO bitchy. No no, please don’t hold the artichoke like the head in the Hamlet scene! Think natural! NATURAL!

  25. dcypher1 says:

shes going to vanish like brigette bardot haha yeah rite anne is a attention whore wild horses couldnt keep her away from the
    spotlight.

  26. Kristy says:

Good riddance. I actively avoid her movies and wil continue to do so.

  27. babythestarsshinebrite says:

I don’t know when those pictures were taken, but no one should look like that after winning an Oscar. Or even anticipating an Oscar.

  28. Madpoe says:

Are they sure she’s not crying cos that hat looks heavy to wear. Is that a scarf or a neckbrace? I don’t pay much attention to her off film so I guess Im not as Anne-toxicated as most.

  29. Dawn says:

When did she use “her little girl” voice? Give her a break she worked hard to win this award and she deserves some credit. I guess I missed that little girl thing. Anne has talent, real talent and I would bet that she will add to the Oscar sitting on her mantle. I doubt that she is crying and I sincerely doubt that she will quit acting because of a made up poll printed by Star! In fact I bet she is laughing because I am! I call b.s. on this whole piece from her little girl voice to the so called poll from star.

    • LBNYC says:

She used her fake “little girl voice” when she accepted the Oscar. But I’ve heard it many times before. Ugh. She’s SO fake. A Scorpio — no surprise there. Probably Capricorn rising.

      • bluhare says:

On behalf of Scorpios everywhere, thank you LBNYC.

      • stellalovejoydiver says:

wtf, Scorpios aren´t people pleasers, astrology is humbug anyway.

      • L says:

And at the golden globes. and the sags. And the baftas.

Honestly after 4 or 5 award shows it was totally obvious that it was a put on.

  30. mkyarwood says:

I don’t think she should say ‘hurt’. I think she should emphasize that it’s easy to get caught up in it all, that she was affected by the backlash and her first reaction was to ‘why me’ all day, but that she realized she needed to change her message, etc. PR should be easy, wtf is managing these people?

  31. serena says:

Now that the Oscar campaign is gone I feel refreshed, no more Anne. So I don’t ‘hate’ her as much.

That being said, I recently watched ‘Les Miserables’ and Annie was really good but not so great compared to others, as in Hugh Jackman, Samantha Barks, little Daniel Huttlestone, even Russel Crowe and Amanda Seyfried -they both surprised me with their beautiful voices- . So I really don’t get that Oscar, except for the common ‘drammatic change’ that please so well the Academy.
Still, Hugh Jackman was the best out of everyone, I really hoped for him to get an Oscar.. he made me cry with his performance..but Anne? Please..

    • HK9 says:

I agree with you about Anne’s performance in Les Mis. But good God, for her to be crying over other people’s opinions?????? (This is the same woman who bitched someone out for leaving the “E” off her name) I hope this story is false. All she has to do is wipe the “tears” away with the head of her Oscar and I think that will fix things.

      • bluhare says:

I get her about the “e” thing. My middle name is Anne and it looks so much nicer as Anne than Ann.

      • taxi says:

@ Bluhare – yes, I get it, I have a middle Anne as well but it was inappropriate & rude to the presenter to call out the error on stage. Why create awkward moments for others? Oh, there are no others of importance, only me me me. She should have handled it offstage.

It reminded me of an honoree at a bridal or baby shower who says “Wrong size” or “Not my color” or “Chipped” while opening the gifts instead of “Thank you”.

    • Lyn says:

Funny, she was the only good part of Les Mis for me….Jackman’s a good actor but he sounded awful, the part was out of his range. Can’t believe how badly Hooper effed that film up.

  32. Nicolette says:

Now now AnnE, I don’t hate you. I just find you incredibly boring, over rated, over exposed (literally go take some of your millions and buy some damn underwear), full of yourself, and just another celeb who thinks the world should bow down at your feet because you get paid millions to play a much glorified version of “pretend”. Get off your high horse if you want to improve your image.

  33. Amy says:

Who runs Gossip Cop and why are they considered more legit than anyone else? More anonymous people on the web, claiming to know stuff that others don’t. Okay.

Oh, and I guarantee Anne cares if people hate her. If she’s this unpopular, no one will go to see her movies, her paycheck will be affected, and she won’t get the parts she wants because she’s box office poison. So there you go.

  34. NeoCleo says:

I’m sure she cries all the way to the bank and every time she meets with her CPA. She couldn’t have gotten where she is being so thinned skinned. No actor could.

  35. truthful says:

After reading the comments, I am think I need to go read some of her interviews.

I’ve never really had any interest in what she said about herself, just her acting roles.

–off to read dumb stuff she must have said during her Oscar campaign.

  36. bluhare says:

    This too shall pass.

Anne needs to be quiet and let her work speak for her. And Oscar campaigns should be stopped. It should be about the work, not about the shenanigans (how I love that word) you pull to get one.

  37. Holden says:

I’m sure she’s wiping her tears with $100 bills and then quickly getting over it.

  38. GossipG says:

    stil not liking YOU,ANNE..

  39. Shira says:

I think doing voice-overs now is the perfect solution.

Also, why do they ALWAYS wear sunglasses in closed spaces?! You’re BEGGING to be spotted!

  40. Itsa Reallyme says:

I like her. She hasn’t done anything that’s bothered me at all. To me, she seems genuine.

  41. Dhavynia says:

Go hug your Oscar Anne. It will make you feel better plus chances are (and hopefully) will be your last one

  42. Celeste says:

Yes, her behaviour has been totally contrived. Has she gone on Saturday night live yet to totally mock herself? She should do that, and then she should study footage of Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar night footage, and strive to be FAR more natural (likeable; relatable) in the future.

    • gloaming says:

SNL is a really good idea for her.

Remember when Goop won? She turned things around (albeit briefly) by making fun of herself the following year.

  43. Janet says:

I still don’t get the hate for this woman, but whatever. Haters gon’ hate.

  44. Sweet Dee says:

Well, I don’t love her, of even like her, but I don’t HATE her.

I do hate artichokes though, and she bought four. From Whole Foods! That’s like half her Les Mis paycheck. That’s an expensive dip.

And since my subtleties are often misunderstood here, the dip is Anne.

  45. Lizzie K says:

This is such an easy problem to solve. Just shut up and go away for a while. I don’t want to hear about how you feel about anything, not even the weather. Shut up. Go away.

P.S. And no more nasty Katie Holmes impersonations on SNL.

  46. snappyfish says:

anne reminds me of a mean high school girl who puts on this sweet image for parents and teachers but who would totally rip someone to shreds for wearing an unflattering outfit, or being fat.

i’m quite sure she doesn’t give a crap what we think of her.

  47. LeeLoo says:

I’m not a fan of Anne’s and I never have been. She’s always come across as bitchy, needy and very high maintenance in that way where she wants everyone to love her and tell her what a unique snowflake she is. However, the backlash since The Oscars has been a little too much. I do think there were more people deserving of an Oscar (my nice way of saying Sally Field got robbed) and her speech was terrible. However, she’s one of those celebrities that I think is best off being ignored and forced to go away instead of the cruel ragging that’s been going on for months. Hating Anne is okay but I don’t feel we should obsessively hate her unless a new movie comes out and then we should just boycott it.

  48. judyjudy says:

Anne…if you’re reading this…know that even though you bug me, my husband still thinks you’re hot…

  49. Sean says:

Now she knows how we all felt watching ONE DAY. I think we all cried after that piece of shit.

  50. Daria says:

Anne’s outfit, face, hair in these pics kinda reminds me of Juliette Lewis in The Other Sister.

  51. Daria says:

That might be insulting Juliette Lewis tho, I like her quirky acting.

  52. ladybert62 says:

    Anne – grow up!

You got the Oscar that you were dying for – now go out and do some real acting – prove to everyone that you are an actress rather than a whiner.

  53. Lia says:

I don’t understand the hatred towards her, honestly. I’m not particularly a fan, but what has she done that’s so worthy of all of this nastiness? She is good at what she does. I find actors who eat, sleep and breathe “the craft” very annoying (especially ‘method’ actors… so full of themselves), but there are celebrities in Hollywood who have done some really heinous things and they’re still treated like gods. What has she done except be enthusiastic about her life? I don’t get it.

  54. KellyinSeattle says:

She has an uppity attitue; should do lunch w/ Gwyneth. I usually like her style, though. And I like her figure. But other than that, AnnE, sit down and shut up.

  55. Annette says:

What Anne needs to do is get herself a new pr team – that is her main problem. Fame magnifies everything and ANYONE’S personality quirks and insecurites can potentially get very annoying if they are poorly managed and so overexposed as Anne was. It’s not an actor’s job to predict how the mass consciousness will react to every little off the cuff comment and gesture – that is what a good pr person is there for.

I get the feeling that the image they created for her is too different from her natural personality. The main criticisms seemed to be that Anne was “fake” “phoney” and “just trying to get votes and make people like her”. There are many actresses out there with a sweet, demure good girl image who don’t get ripped apart for it (Amy Adams, Alexis Bledel, Michelle Williams, Camilla Belle, Dianna Agron…)The trouble is that when Anne tried to play that part nobody was buying what she was selling.

Anne needs to thank her lucky stars that the public memory is so short and work to create a more realistic persona that will not seem like she is always faking and acting.

  56. Palermo. says:

So THAT’S why her nose is always so red. She just seems like the nerdy girl that tries too hard and nobody can stand. So many that go into the acting field are oddballs anyway. She can make this all go away by disappearing for a good long while.

  57. normality says:

I know she acted insufferable over the campaign, but honestly, her performance in that movie was one of the most moving and affecting things I’ve seen in a while. She was great, and me and my hubby as well as our friends left the place agreeing that she’d probably win, and she’d deserve it if she did. I think she’ll be fine. She has grown into a terrific actress and she should just let her work speak for itself.

  58. Sandy says:

Anne won the Best Supporting Actress Award! But she acts as though we’re all focused on her award over Best Actress Jennifer Lawrence! If Jennifer Lawrence doesn’t act like a stuck-up pill, what makes Ann think that she gets to? Because her family and friends are all kissing her ass? They’re your family and friends. The rest of us don’t know you, so don’t be annoyingly self-important and maybe we’ll give you a chance!

  59. Jane says:

Oh please…put your bloody big girl panties on and get the f*** over it, Anne!

  60. Darlene says:

Where are her reusable bags? Does she hate the Earth too?? 😉

  61. Norman says:

I have a few thing s to say about Anne constantly on scanning the net for hateful news about herself. Kim Kardashian, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton are far more loathed than Anne Hathaway and whether if you like them or hate them, they don’t spend the time out of their day being concerned about what their haters have to say about them, they know they have lots of haters and they are not going to let them get the best of them. I know this rash of rabid criticism is rather sudden but buck-it-up, get help if you need it but don’t act like it is the total end of the world. Every public figure has fans and detractors.

  62. Ginger says:

I do think Anne is a great actress and deserved the Oscar but she has been kind of everywhere…overexposed in more ways than one. That can be annoying so yes, if her reps are telling her to lay low for a little while that’s probably good advice. Why do we have photos of her buying vegetables??

    • Peta says:

Because for whatever reason she or her team keep calling the paps that’s why.

There were photos of her arriving at LAX today, to catch a flight, looking po faced. Someone had to tip off the photogs that she was coming. She’s probably headed back to NY – where there will be more daily pap walks of her walking her dog, getting coffee, etc. wait and see.

If she can’t learn the meaning of “lay low” then she can’t complain about the crap she’ll keep getting. (sigh) It’s hard to be an Anne fan these days.

  63. F5 says:

She didn’t know how to quit herself..

  64. JLaw? Why her? Why now? says:

You know if people really hated Anne’s campaign that much that could’ve just changed the chanel when she appeared on TV, not read magazine articles about her and not clicked on articles about her on the internet. But that’d be too obvious wouldn’t it?

  65. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

I’m an Anne Apologist too. I can see why she grates people but she’s never bothered me. I find the whole thing disturbing because it feels like internet bullying on a mass level. People have taken this way to far and it seems to grow.

  66. Official Bitch says:

She’s a fake phony baloney and to top it off she is not attractive or sweet. Annoying, go away anne.

  67. The Original Original says:

I guess I just wonder why she keeps getting cast in major roles when I feel like she is kind of “just there”. I dont see beautiful when I look at her, I dont see over the top talent…I just dont understand why this plain jane is continually allowed to star in major films.

  68. loma says:

I’d like her and all the other famous ppl on this site immediately if they started using reusable shoppers and drink thermoses and adopted a pit bull from a rescue. FFS.

It’s that easy. If you can show that you’re not 24/7 up your own ass I’ll buy a movie ticket.

  69. Cooie says:

Hate her. Get outta here already.
