Here is a tale of two country music blondes and how they deal with their stagnating styles in different ways. Some say Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift are nemeses. Some say that the drama between them in manufactured by the media because everybody loves a good girl-fight. I don’t know. All I do know is that Swifty really, really needs to change up her look because she looked flat-out terrible at last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards.
Swifty wore this gold, sparkly Dolce & Gabanna dress which… I guess the good thing about it is that her bolt-ons aren’t spilling out. But we’ve seem similar looks on Swifty a million times before (and she’s done this “sparkly metallic dress, hair back” looks better in previous appearances too), and at this point, it’s her default and it’s aggressively boring. I know the ACMs are not some mecca of high-fashion, but this is really cheap-looking and pageant-y even for Swifty. And I just can’t with the ponytail and bangs at this point. Ugh. Something nice: I’m glad she’s not wearing red lipstick and I like her earrings.
Quite honestly, I was expecting Carrie Underwood to wear a sparkly pageant gown like Swifty’s for the ACMs. That’s Carrie’s default too, although she usually goes strapless and sparkly, with big blonde pageant hair. So imagine my surprise when I didn’t really hate that Carrie changed it up. Carrie’s dress is Naeem Khan, a big, bold print that actually looks pretty good on her, right? It could have gone horribly wrong, but I think it works…? I especially like the black belt. My least favorite part? The hair. I don’t mind that she pulled it back and still managed to make it “big” but it looks too messy for the dress.

Taylor looks better. Carrie just looks constipated.
Carries dress is terrible, Taylor is boring as always
Oh hell no. Carrie’s dress is ridiculous. The print and cut are terrible and in the most optimistic sense, just don’t seem to go together well. I don’t love the detailing on Taylor’s dress, but from farther out it looks nice and flattering, if a bit boring.
Team Carrie.
Did Swifty dye her hair to match her dress? It’s an odd color.
I think Taylor looks like a young Nicole Kidman. I happen to like Nicole Kidman so in my opinion that is a good thing but I’m guessing the same people who don’t like Nicole probably don’t like Taylor either.
Actually, Taylor looks like an older Nicole Kidman. Young Nicole was a stunning breath of fresh air and didn’t look like this at all.
Taylor
*murmurs shamefacedly* I actually like Taylor Swift’s dress. It may be in her usual wheelhouse, but it’s flattering and interesting. Don’t like the bangs, though.
Carrie’s dress is just too much, somehow. The print is really in your face for a full length gown. It would have worked better as a casual dress or skirt paired with a black blazer.
Ha, I like Taylor’s dress too.
Carrie’s dress would look better as a tablecloth/curtain/duvet cover.
dont like carries dress reminds me of a Tea Coaster i had once, iam tired of commenting abt taylor
I want Taylor to rock her curly blonde hair again!! (Her straight hair is beginning to bore me. Too severe looking for her long face, right?)
Omg I was just telling my friends the same. The straight hair in my opinion doesn’t work for her. She looks better with curly hair some people are meant to have curly hair. Unfortunately that’s not my case I look terrible with my natural curly hair.
I bet you DO look wonderful with curly hair!! I usually think people look better working with their natural hair type. Although, admittedly, there are SOME exceptions!
And yes, I think Taylor’s curly hair is like Felicity’s hair on the show Felicity…It made her stand out from a sea of straight blondes. And it also looks better and softens her long, thin face!
Taylor’s dress flatters her and looks appropriate, it’s a little monochromatic with the hair, but better.
Carrie underwood always dresses like a 16 yr old with a credit card. She may have a flair for bright/colorful but the cuts and styling are borderline absurdly youthful, almost pagenty. She needs some low lights and to get rid of the princess cut gowns she always wears.
Nail.On.Head.
“16 yr old with credit card” lol… best way to describe Carrie Underwood’s horrendous style ever!
OMG YES!!!
Perfect descriptions 🙂
Taylor looked boringly better.
I loathe Carrie’s dress, I do not like it in the least bit.
Taylor looks better but I love Carrie’s shoes!
Obviously Taylor. She can dress. Carrie’s style is horrendous, always has been.
Never really liked Swifty, and I hate to admit it, but she is looking really hot to me lately. Don’t know if it is the bolt-ons or something else, but she is looking really good. Carrie has her usual “look how pretty I am” vibe going but she doesn’t do much for me. Swifty all the way!
I know Carrie’s dress is “challenging” to look at, but together with her lovely smile it makes me happy.
I guess i’m the only one who thinks Carrie looks better, although in that last picture of her, you can really see how much of a hot mess her hair was. i like Taylor Swift’s red carpet choices in general, although i wish she would change it up more often. She has the same silhouette for every single awards show – grown up yet sweet girl next door. I want to see her in something else!
Meh. I think Taylor looks great. Bangs and all.
Taylor Swift always wears something classy and beautiful.
And Im not her fan but honestly her style is amazing maybe boring but classy.
Taylor’s dress looks cheap up close.
Carrie is boring as usual.
I don’t like the cheap looking jewels at the top of Taylor’s dress and I’m getting sick of her hair in a ponytail with bangs look, but she does look better. It’d be nice to see her with color (not red)
Carrie’s hair is looking fried. She could use a good deep conditioning treatment.
I can’t stand Taylor Swift and I refuse to give her any kind of credit and/or say anything nice about her, ever.
That said, Carrie Underwood has the most atrocious “style” (I use that word loosely). She has a gorgeous body that she works hard to maintain, and then she wears clothes that look ridiculous. I don’t know what she did to make her hair stylist mad, but Carrie needs to beg forgiveness. She’s either wearing extensions (which look awful on everyone) or styles her natural hair into some kind of mom hairstyle. Gross. At least her makeup artist still loves, her, though (even if it’s always the same smokey eyes and nude lips).
I like Taylor’s, but I tend to like metallic sparkly anyway. She does need to change it up a little though.
Carrie’s is different, which is good, but not something I really like.
Both are hideous.
I heard Swifty new album recently. That album is strickly pop. Why was she at the ACM’s.
I’m giving this one to Swifty, although to be honest, I don’t care for either looks that much. I wish Carrie Underwood would stop putting on her makeup with a trowel. She always looks like the aging ex-president of Tri Delta at a small southern college.
Team taste!
They both look like they just left a Marshalls prom sale!
I’m an oddball, but I like them both (because you don’t always have to like one woman more than another), and think they both look quite nice.
I don’t like the cheap looking jewels on Taylor’s dress. They look like you peel off the back and stick them on.
I understand prints are in but I feel like taking a watering can to those big flowers on Carrie’s dress.
I’m with you Katie; Swifty has to me anyway become as cloying, annoying and narcissistic as Beyooncy. Has anyone ever seen Swifty with a genuine heartfelt laugh on her face. All scowling and stuck-up, like her crappy jr. high school drivel is decent, let alone, great music. She can’t sing live, the image is completely contrived to market to tweeners – You have to wonder when the carefully construced image cracks, what will the melt down look like? It will probably be the most interesting thing that she experiences.
I think a better question is why would anyone give a crap about Taylor Swift?
Followed by: Is everyone else so awful she gets nominated by default?
I used to think she was just some pretty girl who sang country songs. Now I think she’s a creep.
You’ve got to hand it to Swift…she is drop dead pretty. Very nice features..and she always dresses so classy at any event she attends. Underwood is kinda pretty…but always looks harsh…hair too bleached out and heavy makeup. Nowhere near as pretty as Taylor.
Don’t like Carrie’s dress but I’m just so over Taylor’s hair.
LOOOOVE Carrie’s dress and hair. She’s so natural and and her persona is so transparent. Taylor’s just the opposite of her.
Taylor Swift looked really pretty and I love the way she dances and sings to all the acts. You can tell she loves music. She acts like the very young lady she actually is. What is she 22 or something?
Oh- and Carrie Underwood’s dress made me want to hurl. The colors and the pattern were gross. Her hair was a hot mess and she looked really constipated. What was up with her? She was just off in my opinion.
I think they both look great…. though I wish Taylor Swift would go for the big country hair – would make her a little less boring.
I’m not a Taylor Swift fan, but, admittedly, she looks better in her dress than Carrie Underwood looks in her own. Carrie literally looks as if she took a late 1980’s floral-print sofa and wrapped it around her body. And, if the dress, weren’t enough, her hair looks disheveled—as if it had been styled 4 days ago and the humidity, elements, and growth have undone what had possible been a good idea a few days ago. In addition, the blousy looseness of the dress coupled with the hair seems all very unfocused to the point that it may have been intentional. Whatever the motivations underlying Carrie’s look, the end-product is certainly not representative of her best.
That may be the same dress over and over for Taylor but I’d take that over the monstrosity that Carrie wore! I’m not a Swifty fan. Think she’s an overly dramatic diva. But, I suspect had someone A list or Hollywood worn the same dress she did last night, the reviews would be glowing. I think she looked good.
I actually think that Taylor’s dress is beautiful, and could have looked quite edgy on another person. But just as Kim K makes $15000 dresses look cheap and Blake Lively makes Chanel look mall-girl, Taylor Swift makes metallic D&G look like sparkle and pony dress-up. It’s a gift. (Is it the hair? The make-up? I can’t figure it out.)
I think they both look good. Taylor looks better, IMO.
If I wasn’t aware of how often she does this look, ‘boring’ would never cross my mind.
I used to think Carrie was so pretty. Now I think she looks like an 80’s prom queen. Her hair is bleached and over processed. Her make up is awful too. She was on a magazine cover tha I saw at the supermarket yesterday. The make up was terrible – she really needs to use earth tones, not pastels.
Taylor looks better than ever. I do miss her wavy hair sometimes.
I feel like Taylor wore that dress so she could be all “look at me and my high fashion designer gown I can get because I’m a huge star”. This is the ACM awards. Not the Grammys.
I used to not care less about either. But I have come to at least respect Carrie for her remarks regarding marriage equality (and pointing out it really is about love and not traditional law). A large part of her fan base has to be ignorant tea baggers.
And then we have Taylor who has used some degrading homosexual remarks in at least one song
Carrie’s shoes look ok. Other than that she looks like a mess-.-‘
Taylor always looks good, her face is always pretty, dresses pretty, figure fit..
