Janice Dickinson on her plastic surgery: ‘I don’t think my appearance has changed’

Check out the photo above. That’s the worlds first (self-declared) supermodel Janice Dickinson, 58, in 2004, just eight years ago on the left. A lot can happen in that time but note how gorgeous she was. She had already been toxing and tweaking at that point but she hadn’t had a facelift, she hadn’t had lip injections (which she denies, but come on she has novelty lips) and she had some natural lines around her eyes. She was so pretty at 50 years old. A year later, in 2005, she was on The Surreal Life looking like a different, plastic person. I know because I watched that first season and I remember how unnatural she looked. It’s only gotten worse, but somehow Janice thinks she looks the same and is insisting that those lips are all hers. I guess that explains how this happened. She’s got an unhealthy dose of delusion going on. Oh and that extends to her finances. She declared bankruptcy, but its not her fault, it’s due to the banks and the plastic surgeons who didn’t comp their services. In Touch has a new interview with her and it’s kind of funny/sad.

What was the first plastic surgery you ever had?
I had my boobs done when I was 32. Back in the Jurassic era!

What have you had done since?
Why is this all people care about? I had a tummy tuck and face-lift – and so has every other woman in Hollywood! Sue me.

What about Botox and fillers?
I do Botox and Restylane. I don’t get anything in my cheeks, though. I have perfect bone structure. And my lips are mine.

Fair enough! How much do you think you’ve spent on surgery to date?
I don’t remember – all my ex husbands paid for them!

Do you ever feel you’ve gone too far?
I don’t think my appearance has changed. I just think my face has matured. Do Halle or Julia or Meryl still look the same? No!

How will you afford it now that you’ve declared bankruptcy?
I haven’t the slightest idea.

What happened? How did you lose all your money?
I, like many Americans, went bankrupt because of the economy – the banks! And because press-whore doctors offered to give me Botox and fix my teeth for free and then slapped with me with bills.

[From In Touch, print edition]

Oh no she did not compare herself to Meryl Streep! On one hand she says her ex-husbands paid for all her plastic surgery, but then she turns around and claims that she’s broke because of the bills. Seriously, how much can new teeth and Botox cost? It can’t be more than six figures, and she was thought to be worth $14 million over her career. Somehow all that is gone? I can’t imagine how that happens, or how people end up getting so much work done and thinking they look the same. But good for her for keeping a healthy attitude about it, as out of touch as it may sound. She definitely doesn’t have self esteem issues.

Oh and Janice is engaged and claims that she’s going to have a wedding “on a big TV network, but it’s a secret so I can’t talk about it.” I think that statement has just as much veracity as everything else she’s said in this interview.

Wow, I’ve never seen her “before” face. She was beautiful. She looks nothing like that now.

  2. mkyarwood says:

She really was pretty. I think people with ‘thin’ lips are more likely to get the over injection. Just look at LiLohan

  3. Gossip Garl says:

OMG the VOGUE spread..I never looked her up.SHE WAS SO beuatyfull back than.SHAME..
    But no she didnt changed..
    She just froze rrrything šŸ˜‰

  4. Tasha says:

I disagree no one gets that much plastic surgery and not have self esteem issues. If she had great self esteem she would say F it and aged naturaly because she would have thought she look good regareless of wrinkles, skin sag ex…

    • Spooks says:

I think many extremely beautiful women tend to act like that. They cant really cope with the fact that they’re not as beautiful or young as they used to be.

  5. Pont Neuf says:

Of course her appearance hasn’t changed! And I’m saying this because, just like Janice, I’m seeing her face and behaviour through a very normal mix of wine, dihydrocodeine, tequila shots, ecstasy, Syndol and Ambien. Which is, I’m sure, what has allowed her to preserve both her very natural beauty and her sense of dignity completely intact.

Now, if you don’t mind, I have to go and get my duck lips off the floor. You see, striving to get Janice’s youthful glow can bend you out of shape… Literally.

Now seriously, does anyone else think that when she was young, she looked like she could be Phoebe Cates’ older sister? They used to look so much alike that, for many years, I actually thought they were related.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Wow you’re right – what ever happened to Phoebe? Poor delusional Janice.

      • Happy21 says:

Phoebe Cates is married to Kevin Kline and quit acting to raise their kids. I hear something about her returning now that the kids were grown…I loved her. She was so, so beautiful! (Phoebe not Janice)

    • Gossip Garl says:

in the vogue pic she looks like a very young C.Zeta Jones…

      • 5thHouse says:

Yes, she did look like Catherine! I was trying to think who she resembled, but you nailed it.

  6. ladybert62 says:

    YUK!!!

  7. Reece says:

    The difference…Wow!

  8. yeahright says:

I dont know about those lips they always look different. I have seen photos of her when she was very young – maybe late teen’s early twenties and her lips looked quite full and natural. Then in her 20’s and 30’s they looked thin and now they look full again. Check out that photo for what I mean!

  9. teehee says:

My opinion on it has been developing over the years of seeing celebrities and ‘common folk’ with work done to their face:
It looks TERRIBLE. Even if it does maybe look ok at first, once you are older, your face can’t age normally and looks disfigured, misshapen, and honestly simply damaged.
It is invasive and altering and that’s what it looks like, too – in my eyes, at least after more than one simple procedure and a few years time to ‘settle’. You never look younger, you just look like something and someone else. You can never have your face back from when you were a teen, and you can also never undo the procedures either. But if you somehow think the botched face is prettier than your natural face, then… I don’t know what to say to that. šŸ™ I used to be more wishy washy on the subject but my mind is pretty much solidly made up as of this year- me no likey.

    • SageM says:

I agree. My mother had a facelift done, which I tried to talk her out of with no success. From far away she looks younger, but close-up she’s got this crisscross of really thin wrinkles that seem completely random (as opposed to deeper laughter lines). Imagine scrunching a piece of paper and then ironing out the creases as well as you can… that’s what “lifted” skin looks like close up. It’s really unnatural looking.

I am not against cosmetic surgery at all, and I am all for nose jobs, etc, especially when people really struggle with their self esteem, but the battle against ageing is a lost battle. By all means have laser treatments, facials, peels, maybe even a little Botox, but when it comes to going under the knife… that’s where the line is for me. Oh and fillers: they look awful too.

    • Nina W says:

I agree. Women do not look better after these procedures and they end up looking rather uniform and the same. Me no likie either.

      • Ella says:

        +1

      • Ella says:

        +1
I know that the good work is not supposed to be noticeable but I think they end up looking far worse than if they aged naturally. And those fillers are just gross on everyone.

      • Jenny says:

I think once in a while some one has something done very subtly and it looks fine. I feel like most women in Hollywood have had nose jobs. However, the problem with plastic surgery is that more often than not (especially with facelifts and cheek implants and weird fillers) you look terrible afterwards and who wants to take that risk when there is no going back to the face you once had.

  10. sarah says:

She really was gorgeous at one point in time. It’s a shame she couldn’t see that and felt the need to alter herself.

  11. Fleurthefrenchy says:

the last two pictures!!! She looks like a retired boxer or Karl Lagerfeld or something…

    • SydneySpy says:

I’m starting to wonder if she and Jackie Stallone are related… Join me, I’m putting in the first dollar to buy this woman a mirror.

  12. adriana says:

    SOMEONE IS IN DENIAL LMAO!!!!!!

  13. LadyMTL says:

Her lips are hers….yeah, because she paid for them.

  14. Diane*** says:

Yikes, she looks like Steven Tyler.

  15. Eleonor says:

While I don’t think it’s fair the comparison between the face you used to have in your 20’s, and the one you have at 40’s, plastic surgery is a MESS, and this woman proves it.
For the record: the first supermodel ever was Gia Carangi.

  16. Dawn says:

If her lips are hers then she is among the first not to have their lips thin as they age. I have nothing against her but if she wants to act like a tough old broad she needs to be completely honest.

  17. Ellie66 says:

She wrote a autobiography a few years back she was beautiful and a funny gal…she is no longer beautiful but still pretty damn kooky! šŸ™‚ she has had a hell of a life that for sure. Good read.

  18. TheOneAndOnly says:

Yes, and I’m Marie Antoinette – and to think in the 80s she was one of the first – and quite beautiful – supermodels.
You’re right eleonor Gia was the first, funny but Gia and Janice had somewhat the same look. Gia’s cosmo covers are collectors items for some people, and now look at Cosmo’s downmarket covers.

    • JD says:

I miss the old Cosmo, when HGB was the editor, and Francesco Scavullo took the amazing cover pictures. And Way Bandy doing makeup and Harry King or John Sahag doing the hair.

I am dating myself, but I do miss the magazine.

  19. BW says:

In the no makeup photo she’s starting to look like the Cat Lady, Jocelyn Wildenstein.

  20. snark says:

It looks like her nose has caved in from coke use.

  21. karmasabiatch! says:

Wow, Janice really has that narcissism thing down.

Denialā€¦itā€™s not just a river in Egypt.

  22. Green Is Good says:

Ugh. Those 2011 LIPS. Or earth worms. Whichever.

  23. Laura says:

I don’t understand the need for so many women to mess with their faces using plastic surgery and/or fillers. None of it looks natural/normal…and besides, what’s so wrong with letting the aging process happen? It’s not like any of us are immune to it – we all get older until we eventually die. It’s called life! I’m all for tweeking one’s appearance (temporarily) using a bit of make-up but not to the point where it vastly alters what an individual’s natural appearance is. I am 34 and the aging process has begun. I don’t dye my hair though – I’m ok with the grey hairs, odd wrinkle, and the fact that I don’t look 18 anymore. I eat well, exercise and try to laugh every day because I believe these are the keys to not only feeling young but HAPPY! Being happy and healthy should be priorities not trying to look 25 until the day you die. Life is far too brief to be caught up in the superficial.

    • Nina W says:

I’m 46 and don’t fuss with any of that nonsense. People tell me I look great. I take care of myself and I don’t care how old and saggy I get, I’m skipping all that crap. Bunch of useless vanity, I look in the mirror to brush my hair and clean my teeth otherwise I don’t want to bother with it. For goodness sake men don’t have to run around in clown make-up, why should we? Also I don’t want to erase my identity, my face is my mother’s and my grandmother’s. I don’t want to lose that.

      • SydneySpy says:

Yep, Nina, I’m with you. Clean body, clean clothes, neat hair (even though taming my fuzz ball takes up the bulk of my time of my morning ablutions), clean teeth, double-check that there’s no crumbs, Vegemite or jam on my face, and that’s it. When we had our school staff photos done, I did drag out a bit of old mascara and lippy, causing my colleagues to remark that I looked so beautiful! No one believes how old I am, either, but I am thankful I got my mum’s great skin. I also detest tans and object loudly to being in the sun, even when necessary.

  24. boo says:

What is going on with her nose, it looks misshapen, that Versace woman has the same nose, kind of weirdly shaped like Janice’s. How does that happen? I for one do not like plastic surgery and how different it makes you look. I wouldn’t mind some laser treatments for spots and such, but a full face lift? No. and lip injections? No thank you. I’ll just sit in my corner and age gracefully thank you very much.

  25. KellyinSeattle says:

    Greasy skin!!
I like her, though…she seems like a kick, albeit an annoying one…she’d be fun to hang out with for a day.

  26. Stacia says:

The 4th pic, where she’s holding the coffee, is the stuff of nightmares!

  27. Jayna says:

Liar. Her lips are big fish lips now. She had beautiful lips before. All the women who overdo it with fillers, Botox, trout pout don’t see how different they look.

  28. Gigi says:

Janice!!! Ick! when I was in high school I thought that Janice and her sister Nancy were the most exotic models. They looked “ethnic” enough to make me feel better about Italian/heavy eyebrowed self! It was great having Beverly Johnson and the Dickerson sisters to look at in Vogue. It got to be too much looking at Christie Brinkley all the time!

    • Gigi says:

Oooops! I meant DICKINSON! Nancy “Dickerson” was Jackie O’s press secretaryfriend. Sorry!

  29. Jade says:

what mirror is she looking in? vain c^%t!! to all the on hear women this is why you should NEVER have any plastic surgery or that botox sh^T in your face :/ makes you look so ugky and haggy!

  30. Str8Shooter says:

She is even more delusional than I thought.

Well, at least Wayland Flowers has a stand-in for Madam, now.

  31. EscapedConvent says:

Janice is a drama addict. Delusional & nutty. I always laugh when I hear her braying “I was the first supermodel!”

The way I remember it, I think Jean Shrimpton had that title—someone ought to mention it to Janice. Or it could be someone even earlier—but it’s certainly not her.
