James Franco: ‘Personally, I’m not sure why Henry Cavill wanted to be Superman’

James Franco

I’m going to go out on a limb here and admit that I’m getting really tired of the crowdfunding craze that has taken over the internet. Like, Kickstarter could disappear tomorrow, and I would never shed the tiniest of tears because I’m so tired of watching Facebook and Twitter timelines devolve into streams of constant updates of people who are essentially getting money ahead of time for projects that they have no legal obligation to complete. And a lot of people (although I won’t name names) do take the money and run without writing the books or filming the movies or otherwise providing the goods as promised. Even worse are the rich and famous celebrities who use Kickstarter and the like to fund their projects when they could get studio backing instead of asking their fans for their lunch money.

Now James Franco has joined the crowdfunding club by soliciting $500,000 on Indiegogo to film a passion project trilogy called Palo Alto Stories. He’s got several levels of pledging set up. $450 gets you a personalized voice mail from Franco, $1000 gets an associate producer credit, $2500 gets a set visit, $5000 gets a role in the movie, $7000 gets an original painting by Franco (0 claimed), and $10,000 gets an executive producer credit and dinner with Franco (1 claimed). So far, he’s only raised $53,237 with 27 days left to go, and I guess it’s awful for me to admit that it would be awfully funny if Franco didn’t get his way here.

In the meantime, Renaissance Franco still thinks that in addition to being a student, a professor, an actor, a novelist, and a poet, he’s also something of a film critic. He published a “review” of Man of Steel for Vice Magazine, and although he calls it “a great film,” he still manages to sound really sh-tty and condescending at the same time. It sounds like the dude doesn’t like Henry Cavill much, and he calls Superman a “douchey” character. Well, it takes one to know one:

James Franco

Man of Steel‘s red carpet sucked & Cavill doesn’t like him: “I was also at Leicester Square earlier this year for the premiere of my film Oz, when the red carpet was a yellow brick road, but the night I saw the new Superman, I arrived incognito: 1) because it wasn’t my film, and 2) because I don’t think Henry Cavill would have wanted to see me there. Not that we’re enemies. Years ago we worked on a film together called Tristan and Isolde. My hunch is that he didn’t like me very much. I don’t know this for certain, but I know that I wouldn’t have liked myself back then because I was a difficult young actor who took himself too seriously.”

Henry’s obsession: “What Henry took seriously back then was Superman. He wanted to be Superman more than anything in the world. Personally, I’m not sure why. I missed the whole Superman-film phenomenon. I was more a fan of director Richard Donner’s Goonies and Lethal Weapon. I can understand the appeal the original Superman comics had for the WWII generation and its need for a hero to rid the world of evil, but in my days as a young man, this appeal was long outstripped by the cheesiness of the character’s suit and his douchey invincibility.”

Henry’s life won’t get better than this: “The night of the premiere I saw Henry from afar on the red carpet and knew this was the moment his whole life had been building toward.”

Then Franco remembers he’s writing a review: “So, what did we watch? A great film. But what makes me say this? Is it the nerd revolution that has brought our public taste to the point where comic-book characters and video games are now cool? Are these huge comic-book films the way for the world at large to embrace the subjects of these forms that are traditionally relegated to the nerd niche? Yes, in a way. But in another way, we are just wowed by the money that brings them to fruition.”

[From Vice Magazine]

What’s funny is that Franco admits that he used to take himself too seriously, but he doesn’t realize that he still comes off that way on the outside. In addition, Franco spends a great majority of his “review” talking about extraneous topics before remembering that he ought to devote a paragraph or two to the actual movie, which by the way, he does not consider to be AAART.

Oh god. WHY IS THIS MAN STILL FAMOUS?!

    • Liv says:

“I don’t know this for certain, but I know that I wouldn’t have liked myself back then because I was a difficult young actor who took himself too seriously.”

What makes him think that he changed??!

      • Cynthia says:

I LOVE JAMES FRANCO! HE’S HOT AND AWESOME! STOP BEING JEALOUS OF HIS ART. HE’S A MASTERMIND!!!!!!!!!!!!
HENRY CAVILL IS A FAMEWHORE BRIT!

      • QQ says:

I was coming to use that quote as well, cause he is WAY INSANE If he thinks this is also NOT his current schtick

    • Thiajoka says:

Just gotta say that right now, at this very second, I’m ashamed that my real name is “Cynthia.” DOES EVERYONE UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN BY THAT???!!!!

      • Moncheechee says:

is Cynthia joking? Cynthia please tell us you are joking. Lmfao!!!! This prick who got an NYU prof fired? Come the eff on…James Franco embodies all that is wrong with American society. Who buys what he has to sell? I saw a camera ad he was in, endorsing the product, it was so off putting. That marketing team needs to rethink their strategy STAT! Like right now, because he is a freaking jerk.

    • Moncheechee says:

Omg I never use this word, but what a smug DOUCHE. He defines this term.

  2. LB says:

Personally, I’m not sure why it’s James Franco’s business why Henry Cavill is interested in Superman.

But if he really was curious, maybe he could have asked Cavill instead of intellectualizing why it’s not appealing anymore? But no, Franco and his like never do that – prefer to just analyze to sound intelligent instead of just relating to people.

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, his tone seems so weirdly harsh and aggressive and personal. Must be some serious jealousy.

      • ctkat1 says:

It was a weird tone, and pretty unprofessional- it felt really passive-aggressive, like “Henry really, really wanted this stupid role, which he didn’t get the first time.”
I’d say that Franco doesn’t like Cavill based on the tone, but Franco is superior towards every actor, because while they play dress up, he makes ART.

        He’s such a douche.

      • km says:

Ugh, not only that, but he writes the way I thought ‘intellectuals’ wrote in 9th grade.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

      +1

    • c'est la vie says:

What a lovely hypocrite, coming from someone who was in and profited off of the Spiderman series. Yeah, he really hates those comic book movies.

And I guess Spidey movies beat Superman’s?

  3. allons-y alonso says:

Well, personally….I’m not sure why James Franco thinks that I (or anybody else for that matter) would give a shit what he thinks. So, there’s that.

  4. LadyJane says:

This guy dares to call Superman a douche? THIS GUY??

    • Erinn says:

Yeah, I don’t know. I really don’t like superman. At all. I find him to be a pretty boring superhero.

I can’t help but still kind of like Franco. After watching him constantly making fun of himself in “this is the end” I think he DOES have an idea of how he comes off to people. Which, I guess kind of amuses me. I know he’s a douche, but I still like him better than a lot of Hollywood types simply for the amusement factor.

      • Latisse says:

Oh please, he wasn’t making fun of himself in This Is The End. Did you happen to catch the oft reiterated humble brag “insult” the other cast members kept throwing at James: “You’re such a dork, Franco!” “You’re such a dork!” We get it James, you’re an “intellectual”.

Hot girls will also often employ this same technique when they call themselves ‘nerds’. Presumably because they wear non-prescription hipster black frame glasses?

The only other part of the film that might be mistaken for self-awareness was when he showed his awful paintings. But as you can see, he is trying to get someone to buy one of those for 10 grand to raise money for his crap passion project and it’s possible he realized someone might be more likely to want it had it featured a role in the movie. Yeah. The guy is a giant douche-bucket.

      • Erinn says:

I didn’t see those as humble brags. I saw that as them making fun of the way he comes off in interviews and such.

Usually when someone says “Yeah, we get it, you’re in ‘intellectual'” it isn’t a way to compliment someone, it’s generally condescending and poking fun.

Yeah, I know the kind of girls that do that. They’re pretty much any kind of tv personality that works on a guy aimed show. EG: Mythbusters and anything on G4.

And I did, in my post, say that he was a douchebag. I just think he’s more aware than we give him credit for. Sure, he’s cashing in on that, but I think he does have an idea of it. There’s no way the dude can have such negative press all the time and be completely oblivious to it.

And, I’m allowed to be amused by him. I don’t really have to check with anyone first.

      • Latisse says:

What? Who said you needed to check with anyone? What are you talking about?

As for the, “we get it james you’re an intellectual” bit, that was me speaking for myself and making fun of his humble brag. Not something that was said in the film.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I’m with you, Erinn. Of course Franco can be douchey but I still find him entertaining.

Just look at how angry he makes everyone 😉

Oh, and I too think Superman is the unsexiest superhero of all time.

  5. brin says:

    He’s such an asshat.

  6. Hipocricy says:

MOS is a really bad empty movie hidden by the amount of bombastic over the top mega Transformers like action.

Still, JF has no business asking why a colleague would do that movie. Henry Cavill still needs a breaktrough just like JF had his with Spidey 1.

  7. gorda says:

James Franco Are you jealous much!

  8. Jayna says:

Self-important, pretentious idiot. What a review. Not.

    • stellalovejoydiver says:

It is so funny, that Franco´s review barely mentions the movie and is just another opportunity for him to display his narcissism.

    • Addison says:

Has this man always been so insufferable? I had no idea. What a classless person.

I grew up reading comics because my brother did. As an artist myself I enjoyed looking at the artwork but I also enjoyed the stories. Superman! Why wouldn’t everyone want to be Superman? Michael Fassbender liked pretending he was Superman as a little boy! I think he may have gotten hurt while pretending. The new Superman movie was pretty good. I enjoyed it. I might see it a second time. In the comic universe Superman is pretty much the main guy I think.

Franco was good in 27 Hours. I may have to re-think what I watch that he is in. I don’t know if I want to give my money to this type of person. Blech!

  9. TG says:

Franco is one of those people who think just because they have a degree it means they are smart. I just read the Channing Tatum interview in Vanity Fair and it was great. He never tried to come off as an intellectual and he was honest about his past and present and you can tell that he is actually very smart. Not from a degree but from life experiences. Even though he looks like a chump I really like him. Franco not so much. To use a Lainey phrase “Why is James Franco?”

    • StormsMama says:

      THIS!!!

    • D says:

If you even knew what his ‘degree’ consisted of at UCLA, no one would even lend credence to all the academic b.s. he claims to have mastered. I was at UCLA when he was there, and had friends in his classes. Guess what, James Franco NEVER SHOWED UP TO CLASS. He was always away ‘filming.’ Then there’s the fact that most professor’s were to cowardly to fail him because he’s an ‘actor,’ just as they were too afraid to give a bad grade to someone within their class when they did well in all other classes. It’s such b.s.
I really don’t mean to come across as some raging bitter lunatic, but when I was in undergrad, there were a lot of hollywood actors attending Columbia. And you know what? They actually showed up to class and did work. If they couldn’t be there for the required amount of classes, then they took the semester off. It worked for Julia Stiles, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Anna Paquin… The list goes on and on, and I’ve never heard any of these people bragging about their degrees, when they actually earned it.
The worst is that I have a friend who was in the NYU program with him. She was legitimately working on getting a graduate degree in film, whereas James Franco is just delusional. I wish he would stop speaking about how wonderful he is academically when it insults those people that actually work hard and don’t have a famous name to ensure them doing well. What a butt head.

      • nico says:

JGL and Anna Paquin both dropped out of college. They can’t brag about degrees they don’t have.

      • D says:

Yes, and I said that to illustrate the point that because they couldn’t complete the required amount of work they were respectful of the system and left. They didn’t milk it like James Franco.

      • TheWendyNerd says:

I know someone who did an academic workshop with Franco. He said he was earnest and really desperate to prove himself as more than just some Hollywood poser. Unfortunately, he didn’t have the talent or grasp of writing and language in general to back it up. It comes down to more than drive when you want to be a writer. There’s just something you have to “get”, a sort of awareness and grasp of realism and concept that you need. Franco didn’t have that and it seems he still doesn’t.

    • Sloane Wyatt says:

James Franco’s so called college degree is super shady! This guy is mean spirited and his faux intellectual schtick is so tired.

NYU “Professor José Angel Santana said he slapped the “127 Hours’’ star with the bad grade because he missed 12 of his 14 “Directing the Actor II” classes while pursuing a master’s in fine arts.

Santana said he then suffered all kinds of drama — first from Franco, who publicly ridiculed him, then from his department, which axed him over the “D.”

  10. lisa says:

personally im not sure why james thought he could host the oscars with a singing horse

  11. CTgirl says:

Hey James, it’s going to be awkward as ass when you two are cast in another movie together. It’s Hollywood and that happens all the time so burning bridges is an idiot move.

    • Esmom says:

      Seriously. What a fool.

    • Micki says:

I#ve watched Tristan and Isolde twice but didn’t know till now that Cavill was in it too.
      So who was he then?

      • MrsNix says:

I only watched Tristan and Isolde because Cavill was in it. I cannot remember his character’s name, and now that you mentioned it, it’s going to really bug me. I’ll have to go imdb it. He was Tristan’s right hand man, sort of, but he was jealous of Tristan. That’s basically all I remember; it’s been years since I watched it.

Okay, he was Melot. I want to say he was the king’s nephew or something like that.

  12. Melibea4ever says:

Jealous much? Can’t stand him (rolling my eyes)

  13. Londongal says:

    Reading these comments make me want to force him to fellate a live, loaded gun for my viewing pleasure. (If you haven’t seen ‘Spring Breakers’ do…seriously.) :-}

  14. Badirene says:

Can we start a kickstarter campaign to make James Franco go away? I will pledge my lunch money in the name of art.

  15. stellalovejoydiver says:

“I don’t know this for certain, but I know that I wouldn’t have liked myself back then because I was a difficult young actor who took himself too seriously.”

    Haha, you only got older.

Also I doubt Henry cared that much about him, he prob just rolled his eyes at Franco´s douchey antics and minded his own business.

  16. LahdidahBaby says:

    Poseur.

  17. Pastyousayyouneverknew says:

    Stay pressed, Franco 🙂

  18. Tiffany27 says:

I don’t even like Henry Cavill, but James Franco sounds like a jealous b*tch fronting like he’s not above it because he’s so “artsy”. Please….. Have a stadium full of seats Franco and do not get up.

  19. boredbrit says:

Lol, I love how he tries to justify the fact that he was a dickhead and Cavill didn’t/doesn’t (?) like him for it. A real man would go up to Cavill and say, listen I was an arrogant idiot back then, just want to apologise for being so obnoxious. There. Done. Man, in the interview Franco comes across as a little coward who’s shitting his pants that the guy he was rude to a guy who is now Superman.

    • StormsMama says:

Reminds me of the saying ” be mindful of the people you meet on the way up bc you will meet them again on your way down (when they are on their way up”.
He is a CLASSIC DOUCHE. Ugh.
Cavil is getting his hard earned years-in-the-struggling-actor-making desserts and Franco is pissy and narcissistic as ever.

  20. pao la says:

This guy is such an obnoxious twat. always very opinionated and very much outspoken on the wrong this. i stopped liking him after he hosted the oscars and after watching Oz i decided he doesn’t deserve my time

  21. lower-case deb says:

Wow, is he writing a review or a diary of his day in life. or day in his own world/in his head/in his colon.

my children sort of love MoS, and my husband and I agree it’s a great popcorn crunching movie. but POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERTS!!

it gives me a lot of dejavu. the fight scenes remind me of the Matrix (Neo-Agent Smith face-off) and the appearance of Fishburne made me wonder when he’s gonna whip out his red and blue pills to give to Supes. also the fight made me wonder if Hulk is going to be pissed off and make an appearance. or if one of those cars being tossed around willy-nilly will turn out to be an pissed off Autobot. it’s just too many dejavu, or too many CG action going around these days. and there are, in our mind, several extrenous scenes i wouldn’t mind seeing them chopped.

but, the actors deliver a good performance, i think. Lois isn’t so grating as the Lois’s of yore, for once, at least.

  22. Mrs. Darcy says:

Wow. Up until now I couldn’t care less about his self delusional philosophizing and general douchiness. But this really smacks of petty jealousy, he comes away sounding pathetic and try hard. Why mention that they didn’t get along, it just makes him sound even more idiotic, Cavill probably wanted to smash his pretentious face in. Franco is seriously trying to play the “Superman isn’t cool” card and throw shade at another actor for wanting to play an iconic part? Is he f&%@king serious? It just makes me cringe, I feel so sorry for anyone who has to work with this twat. I haven’t even seen the Superman movie but this makes me team Cavill all the way. He comes across as sincere and self deprecating in interviews, much like Clark Kent, which of course is not on Franco’s echelon of enlightened hipster asshattery.

  23. stellalovejoydiver says:

When famous people do a kickstarter canpaign it is just douchey. Kickstarter is for struggeling artists to get financing for their projects, not for rich, acclaimed actors with all the necessary connections to get their vanity projects financed.
Franco makes millions per movie, he can pay those 500.000$ by himself or use his connections to get investors.

    • Tiffany27 says:

      +1
It legit pisses me off when celebs do this. They literally have the money in their wallets to fund their projects.

    • lucy2 says:

THIS – if someone has other options and opportunities for the money, I won’t contribute, and I’ll give them the side eye for asking in the first place.

Veronica Mars was a special case though, IMO – it wasn’t going to happen otherwise. Braff flat out said he had other investors he could have used, and I’m sure Franco does too.

    • Original A says:

While Franco is a douche, to be fair they left out the part where the proceeds from the film will go to a charity. That part was on Deadline.

    • Thiajoka says:

      I agree–think it’s taking advantage of fans.

  24. ncboudicca says:

I don’t get why a guy who starred in Spider-Man movies is semi-bashing big superhero movies?

    • Diana says:

He didn’t even star in the Spider Man movies, right? Wasn’t he the fairly extraneous sidekick.

God, this guy is such a pretentious narcissist. I have no trouble believing Henry Cavill didn’t like him.

    • Sharra55 says:

Thank you! Took the words right out of my mouth!

      What a douche canoe!

  25. Ana says:

James Franco and John Mayer should be best friends. That’s all.

  26. Nahmed says:

why did james franco get star on Hollywood walk of fame
i used to like him but i hate him
    now

  27. fran says:

    The irony:
Cavill worked with this idiot in the film Tristan and Isolde. I wonder if Henry even knows what bullshit Franco spews about him.

    • OhDear says:

What’s really weird is that the movie came out 6 years ago and Franco’s still obsessed with Cavill.

I guess Franco sees his star fading and is jealous that someone who he seems to have thought was beneath him is doing well.

  28. pwal says:

Kinda silly of Franco to do a review of a movie that was competing against his-makes his review seem less objective. Plus, from the excerpt, he is so fixated on Cavill and James Franco that he can’t get to the point.

    • Addison says:

What movie of Franco is competing against Superman? I had no idea Franco had a movie out right now.

  29. Starrywonder says:

Franco is horrible. The best part of that article were the commenters who were like what does anything you said have to do with the movie. Writing your stream of consciousness thoughts sucks. Write about the movie.

Whatever Franco is just jealous and high if he thinks he can throw shade at Henry Cavill.

Also he is drunk if he thinks anyone wants to pay that much money to have a voice mail message of him…ugh.

  30. Maria_Spain says:

cos he is an idiot -_-

  31. mom2two says:

I’m pretty sure Henry Cavill doesn’t care what James Franco thinks about his career choices.
Honestly, his comments about Henry come across passive/aggressive and he tries to make it sound like he doesn’t understand the big deal about Superman.
Which, why in the world would he review that particular movie anyway????

  32. Miss M says:

Oh, Franco… I cannot forgive you for a terrible review that wasn’t a review… Did you learn anything with your degree?

ps: Now I have to add Superman to my favorite Hollywood douches’ list. Lol

  33. Kiddo says:

“Not that we’re enemies. Years ago we worked on a film together called Tristan and Isolde. My hunch is that he didn’t like me very much. I don’t know this for certain, but I know that I wouldn’t have liked myself back then because I was a difficult young actor who took himself too seriously”

I’m still working through this passive aggressive gem of self-doubt, projection, possible jealousy and WTFness.

Also, in that second photo, I think someone may fail to recognize the difference between a well tailored suit and one that falls into sausage stuffing category.

    • TheOriginalKitten says:

Yeah it really does scream *jealousy*.
It’s really embarrassing to read because it seems so obvious that he’s envious.

      I still like Franco though.

      *runs and hides*

      • Miss M says:

TOK: Me too! But if he keeps writing stuff like that, I will have to remove him from the list, :).

      • Kiddo says:

I’m neutral on him, not a fan or hater. Others set off the douche meter much higher than him, for me, like the Kardashians, all the housewives, and I could go on and on.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Me too, Kiddo! I acknowledge the douche but he doesn’t enrage me the way Kartash and Housewives or even P Deen does.

        *waves to Miss M*

  34. grabbyhands says:

Because not everyone in your profession wants to be a pretentious, head up your ass douchebag, idiot. Some actors just want to enjoy their craft and have fun.

Pray tell, Franco-did you forget you appeared in Spiderman? Maybe you shouldn’t be badmouthing superhero movies. Or are you butthurt that you weren’t the star?

P.S. You still take yourself waaaaay too seriously.

  35. Tessa says:

He’s completely lost his looks. He used to be so cute on Freaks and Geeks.

  36. Cora says:

What does “douchey invincibility” even mean? Franco, you can’t write for shit.

  37. Holden says:

I have no desire to see another Superman reboot, so I tend to agree with him.

    • Addison says:

If they are well made, “Bring Them On”! I will watch a well made re-boot till I’m 90 or dead.

Man of Steel is pretty good.

  38. Ktx says:

I’ve been annoyed by Franco for awhile….but I just saw him in This is the End (in which he pretty much plays himself), and while the movie was pretty bad, he was fabulous. He owned his pretentiousness. So Funny! I’ve kind of started to like him again.

    • Leah says:

He is a good actor despite his annoying personality that cant be denied. I tried to read his book and its awful, he would never have gotten published if he wasnt franco. I feel the same about all his degrees too, its seems like he racked up a bunch of degrees from ivy league colleges with minimal effort because he is FRANCO.

  39. Talie says:

That’s the one thing I like about James: his ability to admit that the younger version of himself wasn’t such a good person. A lot of people can’t do this.

    • Ali says:

The older version of him isn’t a great person. It’s likely he was born an ass.

    • lucy2 says:

I’d be all for that if he’d actually learned from that and became less obnoxious person. He seems to be getting worse, even.

    • MisJes says:

I’d like it more if he had the ability to admit he STILL isn’t a good person.

  40. MrsBPitt says:

I love that he went to the MOS premiere incognito, because, of course, had the fans and press known HE was there…they would have all flocked to the biggest, most intellectual, artist in the world and totally ingnored those lesser beings, such as Henry Cavill, Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, etc. Did he receive his college degree in delusion??

  41. Tania says:

I was going to see This is the End this weekend but after reading his review, I’ll probably grab my niece and nephew who haven’t seen Man of Steel yet and go see it for the 4th time myself.

  42. fan says:

Yeah, Franco, making movies about apes and witches and being bad to Spiderman is so much more ambitious and artsy *rolling eyes*

    • Raquel says:

That’s what I was thinking–seriously, the guy who made Planet of the Apes, Your Highness, and Oz thinks he’s qualified to review a record-breaking film?

Get over yourself, Franco. No one takes you seriously as an intellectual after YOU made it public that you don’t even attend classes.

  43. Meaghan says:

Although I feel I may have people chasing me with pitchforks for saying this, I LOVE James Franco. I don’t read his interviews though, and I didn’t even read the interview in the post. I just wanted to look at pictures of him. He has done some movies I’ve really liked, and I think he is so sexy.

    • OutstandingWorldCitizen says:

Nope, no pitchfork from me. I love and admire most of his work. He didn’t make these comments over some professional jealously. Quite frankly Mr. Franco is well “frank” to a fault; he comes across as douchey and might be intentional. He is wicked and obviously stirring the pot to indirectly promote his film. It being out at the the same time MOS. Sorry but Henry Cavill is BORING wrapped in pretty. His recent left yawning and made me think negatively of him to boot. He is not compelling in the least bit. If MOS is the cherry on his career sundae then….

I personally love when celebrities “talk smack” about each other. James’ sideways compliment/criticism is weird but Superman has been done to death. How many times can you re-imagine this story. The hype and trailers were too loud and awfully formulaic.

      • Lemony says:

It is always a bad idea to talk negatively of your coworkers. I can’t stand that attitude today. I sound old complaing about, but I’m not old, lol. Just frustrated. Whatever happened to acting & speaking like a professional?
My company has had to fire 3 people this year for this kind of behavior, 2 of them I had to personally fire. Ugh.
Whatever happend to sucking it up & paying your dues?

    • pwal says:

      Kinda wanna duck too.

Last week, I saw This is the End, and the long dormant Franco crush sorta re-ignited. I can’t help myself; I like smiley, lanky men and everytime I see the eye crinkles whenever he smiles, my heart smiles along with him.

      Gulp… I’m so ashamed.

      • Meaghan says:

His eye crinkles are the best! And his smile! He is sooo sexy, and the pictures in this post are working for him for sure. I can’t wait to see This is the End, and I LOVE his comedy movies. He always makes me laugh.

  44. Tig says:

Wish he could stick to movies and keep his opinions to himself. He’s a good actor.

    • Thora says:

Very true. I just finished watching Freaks and Geeks on DVD and whoa where’s this guy been?

    • KLO says:

He IS really good actor. I`ve loved him in every movie he has been in and I had a crush on him from Spiderman.

But the douche is strong wit this one….still, I would like him as a friend coz he`s just funny sometimes. He`s fake intellectualism and all…

  45. Raquel says:

Leave it to Franco to use an uber-educated word like ‘douchy’ while trying to show off by writing a review.

I don’t know what Cavill did to piss Franco off so much on the set of Tristen and Isolde that Franco is still writing fake reviews to try to smear him more than five years later, but I wish they got it on film.

I can only assume that he just smiled politely when Franco spouted off about his aaahht and his fake degrees and ignored him completely.

    • OhDear says:

Probably wasn’t as impressed with him as Franco thought he should have been.

    • MisJes says:

What Cavill did to piss Franco off was to SUCCEED.

Franco was the leading man in Tristan and Isolde, and Cavill was just the lowly co-star. A few years on: Cavill has the titular role in a massive, highly-grossing franchise – and Franco has Spring Breakers. Cavill 1, Franco 0.

  46. lucy2 says:

This sounds like either a) Franco secretly wanted the role and is butthurt he didn’t get it, or b) he didn’t like Cavill, felt himself superior, and is now jealous of Cavill’s huge stardom.

    • poe says:

EXACTLY!!!! He wasn’t Spiderman and he didn’t get to be Superman either. He also isn’t one of the X-Men. Poor douche isn’t going to get to be any of the superheroes! I like Oz in spite of him. I only bought it because my kids think the witches rock.

  47. MAC says:

I wont watch a movie if he is in it. That is just how I feel about him and the things he says to people

  48. Lenore says:

My favorite thing about this site’s post about Franco are the comments. Here’s my take on his persona: he’s a victim of Narcissistic parentification. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parentification
He’s an interesting person but he’s an observer of everything, even his own life, not really a participant.

    • I Choose Me says:

They might have something there. It’s like his whole life is a performance.

  49. Side-Eye says:

After going through the thing the only think I could think of was.

“That’s why Michael Shannon shot his ass in the Iceman.”

Nobody cares about your pressed ass James.

  50. gobo says:

I used to like this guy. Now… god he makes my eyes roll so bloody hard. He’s a full of shit piece of shit.

  51. Dommy Dearest says:

Why does James always look like he’s constipated? I really wish James, Kim, Kanye, Beyonce… I really wish this narcissistic celebrities would go the hell away.

James talking is him farting through the mouth. He has nothing important to add nor anything of any value. He is a terrible actor, where are his prestigious awards that showcase his talent? I mean he did the K-Fed role GREAT in the previews to that one movie, don’t get me wrong. But really his biggest role was Osborn in Spiderman. Without that TERRIBLE film he’d be begging for people to listen to him.

    • Emily C. says:

Why does James always look like he’s constipated?

That’s what happens when your head is permanently up your rear.

  52. Maya Dragunova says:

It’s obvious! Franco had a thing for Cavill and Cavill rejected him. Its sour grapes.

    • Side-Eye says:

It’s probably unlikely, but I’m down with this theory just because it’d be something I’d see on Lifetime or something. To be honest, I wouldn’t blame him, but unless Henry really dumped his ass, there’s no reason to be this salty.

  53. So James Franco is throwing shade on superhero movies? Does he remember how many he’s been in?

    • Raquel says:

Oh, honey. When Franco is in a superhero movie, it isn’t a superhero movie. It’s ahht.

  54. Emily C. says:

I’m not sure why James Franco wants to be James Franco, but here we all are.

  55. dcypher1 says:

A novelist that’s a joke right. He wishes he could write a novel. Just cus u played Ginsberg in a movie dosent make u real writer in real life.

  56. Ginger says:

Way to make another enemy in Hollywood!

  57. Suzy from Ontario says:

Just don’t like James Franco. He is just icky to me and way too full of himself. He thinks he is an amazing actor. I beg to differ.

I really liked Cavill in the new Superman. I didn’t expect to…I went to see it because my husband wanted to, but I really enjoyed it and liked him in the role.

  58. Meanchick says:

Because until it’s clear to HIM, nothing will be right with the world.

  59. Anne says:

He is so damn pretentious. The whole “review” reeks of narcissism. It seems to me that James looked at Henry as a peasant when Henry was a struggling actor and now that he finally got his big break, James can’t stand not being the center of attention.

O/T but I can’t think of Henry Cavill the same way after watching a couple episodes of The Tudors.

  60. Str8Shooter says:

This guy is SUCH a douchenozzle. I have never truly disliked a celebrity before as I do with this guy, but between him getting his NYU fired for him not showing up for class and how trashing this guy’s big break…

I was SO hoping that POS movie he’s in with those other obnoxious idiots would have bombed…

  61. Jenn says:

I saw it, and for a Superman movie, it wasn’t half bad. I was actually impressed, and I’m a Wolverine fan, myself.
    Now…
STFU and sit down Franco, nobody gives a damn if the Green Goblin hates Superman.

  62. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I wish Franco would stop acting like such a douche. I watched on youtube when he won a golden globe for playing as James Dean…he was so shy and sweet back then. When he gave his speech, he spoke very quietly, softly, with his mouth right up to the microphone, and he didn’t look at anyone except the people he came with. What happened?

  63. colt13 says:

I liked James in Your Highness, but I have to admit that he sounds pissy here. Angry because another actor got their dream job sounds like high school.

  64. leslie says:

Andddd…..Franco is obsessed w/Cavill. Hello pot, he’s kettle.

  65. Shannon says:

Anyone who calls Superman a ‘douchey’ character is the D-bag!!!

  66. Ceebee says:

He’s just being a twat bc Cavill’s MOS is outgrossing his movie This is the End by 5 times over, and Cavill’s hotness has always outdone his by 10 billion and quite likely more…

  67. MJAustin says:

    Jealous little dbag.
Not a gracious bone in that mans body.
Henri comes off as polite, NOT arrogant, humble, grateful, and is well spoken of by people who have worked with him. Except of course Franco, who always comes across as an ass.

  68. Samantha says:

Screw James Franco,is it really any wonder as to why Henry didn’t pay much attention to him all those years ago given that douche bag attitude which obviously persists to this day?

  69. Lucy says:

Stamina Franco! is direct speaks his mind not as the ken tasteless that as personality at all
