Evelyn Lozada covers the August issue of Latina magazine, and she really looks like a bustier version of Zoe Saldana on this cover, doesn’t she? It’s like some enterprising photoshop artist superimposed Zoe’s face on Evelyn’s body. Strange.
Evelyn is using her interview as a forum to discuss her super-major life overhaul that she’s embarked upon following the end of her relationship with Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson last year. The Fourth of July would have been their one-year wedding anniversary, but of course, Evelyn filed for divorce after six weeks of marriage when Chad head-butted her during an argument about a receipt for condoms that she found in his car. I would use the word “allegedly,” but Chad plea-bargained his way out into probation for the incident, so he pretty much gave up the right to declare himself innocent. Further, gruesome photos of Evelyn’s forehead gash surfaced about a month ago, and they tell a tale all by themselves. In addition, Chad obviously didn’t take the situation seriously at all because he recently slapped his lawyer’s ass in open court and earned himself a revocation of his probation and 30 days in jail. Here are some excerpts from Evelyn’s interview:
On her time with Chad: “When times were good, times were great. We would laugh a lot. It was just one of those things… There was nothing in the middle — when it was great, it was great; but when it was bad, it was real bad. There was no in between.”
On the domestic abuse: “We had issues. Nothing like that though. Obviously nothing like that. But I will say this: what’s sad is that if that day, if I didn’t have physical wounds, I probably would’ve walked right into that house [after arguing] because I wouldn’t have wanted anyone to know. I would’ve been embarrassed. I wouldn’t have wanted my family to know. I think that happens a lot with women and even men because I’ve had a lot of men, especially gay men, tell me that they’ve been in abusive relationships. You’re embarrassed and ashamed.”
On her feelings after the violent abuse of her ex-husband during an argument: “At that point, I knew my life would never be the same. I knew the world was going to laugh at me and be mean and nasty and blame me for everything. But I had no choice. I had to go to the hospital.”
On why she plans to start a foundation to help victims of domestic violence called Pain Is Not Love: “I get e-mails every single day from women who are still with their abusive partner and they’re like, ‘I need help.'[…] Being an advocate for domestic violence, you don’t choose that. I got chosen via the circumstances that happened. But I cannot imagine me being in that situation and not being able to do anything, just being stuck. So that’s how the foundation came about. To help women get out.”
On trying to reform her life with the help of life coach & being re-baptized: “Tony [Gaskins Jr.] was talking to me about soul ties, and I felt like I needed to cut that cord [with Johnson]. I wanted to do things differently, to start over. I’m still going to be Evelyn, but I have a different vision of my life.”
On being a reality star: “I really don’t [see myself doing this forever]. I see myself working behind the scenes — whether it’s working on my books or doing stuff on TV shows. I really want to have a family. And if that presented itself to me, I would probably just enjoy the moment because I feel like, with my daughter, it went by so fast! I really didn’t have the chance to just enjoy that moment of having a family. I have a desire for that.”

I’m not a religious person at all, but is it even possible to be “re-baptized”? Well I’m sure it’s possible in a technical sense, and I guess it’s a matter of what one believes that the scripture allows, but it’s a controversial concept, and not all Christian denominations allow the practice.
Meanwhile, I know that some of you think that Evelyn is a bit of a famewhore (to put it mildly), but that doesn’t in anyway lessen her status as a victim of domestic violence. If she’s truly preparing to launch a foundation to help fellow victims, that can only be applauded. Now as to her insistence upon wearing leopard print … that’s a different story.

I hate occhocinco. Hate him. This woman did not deserve to be hit at all.
She is, however, an abusive horrible person in her own right. I’ve seen her show basketball wives, this woman (and I use that term SO loosely) thinks its ok to assault other women if she doesn’t like what they are saying. She thinks its ok to throw things, and scream, yell and hit in public and in private like an animal.
Both of them need to go away FOREVER.
I really hate that Chad did that; he’s a man who is definetely stronger than her. But this woman and others like her have no problem trying to beat the crap out of other women and suffer no consequences. She threw a wine bottle at one girl’s head. She’s a violent vile woman.
These pictures of what he did to her are pretty shocking. I have always been incredibly vocal when it comes to domestic violence. There’s never an excuse, ever. Nobody deserves violence by anyone, that includes at the hands of there partner.
They maybe two very toxic people, But you walk away before you get to that point of wanting to put your hands on each other. She probably is a famewhore and violent, but I just can’t justify what he did to her.
Totally agree. She’s as hypocritical as they come, and their relationship was never that deep to me in the first place. They had their first date on Basketball Wives and she slept with him tht first night, which ok, whatever, do you, but it seemed like the relationship was based on sex only. And money (for her…even though at that point Chad was already on the downward spiral). Plus she (like Zoe Saldana, IMO) only claim their Latina heritage when convenient. Evelyn doesn’t even know Spanish and barely keeps in touch with that side of her family
What is the point of re-baptizing?
I’ve never heard such thing.
Sounds to me like a re-loading a computer game.
I congratulate her that she’s found the strenght to leave. Don’t know for how long they have been together but with these issues she mentions I wouldn’t think wedding at all.
Think of it as a re-dedication.
the NEED is great with this one.
Wow….interesting. Not a fan of hers…but NO MAN should ever hit a woman. I get that “embarrassed” part of of domestic abuse too. I would be ashamed too if the man that professed to love me had abused me too. I also didn’t realize she was latino. I thought she was black.
Nope, nothing to do with us (thank God!)
Also, she’s a liar and an idiot. She should set up a foundation for the victims of her domestic violence. In basketball wives she hit so many women, I don’t know how she keeps a straight face.
You can be both latina and black.
I’m sorry, who is she?
I agree, that cover pic is photographed to heck! Doesn’t look like her at all. Hate her and Chad, both need to go away but no one deserves to be hit.
she is also a violent bitch
good for her for leaving him. I remember seeing a few minutes on the show once, when she was still with him and they seemed happy and in love. just goes to show, you never know what happens behind the scenes.
She’s very pretty – looks like a cross between Zoe and Halle – but has zero taste. In men, career or clothing. So of course she gets the cover of a magazine! Let’s make her into a saint/role model/fashion authority because Ochocinco headbutted her!
We read these ridiculous stories or redemption ALL THE TIME in these magazines and they are simply PR. Go away! You have no talent or insight! Actually, just go get reborn or whatever – sounds like a great use of your time.
Her behavior on BBW left me hating the show itself. The violence and swearing and name-calling was just outrageous and she’s a mom? Now maybe the headbutt changed her and made her realize that SHE was this way to other women. I hope that is the case, but I’ll wait to see what she does with this DV organization. I think people can change, but their actions are what I look at, not their words.
Wow that photo! He had to have headbutted her with major force! I applaud her for getting treated and getting out of the relationship and living situation immediately. I work in the legal field and you don’t see that too often. And yes, you can indeed choose to be a domestic violence advocate…I work with them.
Sorry ..I don’t have sympathy for her not saying she deserved to be head butted no woman deserves that…..but she had NO PROBLEM throwing bottles at ppls head , yelling , cursing or jumping on tables threatening other ppls safety by acting like a wild banshee
From the comments here, I can see that she’s not exactly an admirable character. But her words about domestic violence ring very true – lots of victims are ashamed, don’t want to tell people and are scared of what others will think. So good on her for putting that out there.
