If you remember, I actually liked Man of Steel – go here to see my review. I thought it had editing issues and it could have easily lost a half an hour, but overall, I liked it and I thought Henry Cavill in the role. The movie is making money too – it made more than $500 million just in June. Obviously, people like the new Superman and I don’t think anyone would have any problem seeing him in a sequel. So at this year’s Comic-Con, they announced some details about the sequel – the sequel is going to also feature Batman heavily. Which means that Henry Cavill is going to have to share his film, even after he delivered.
At Comic-Con, they basically said that Christian Bale is definitely not coming back – because why would he? – and so they’re going to recast Batman. And now the conversation is “who should be the new Batman?” I have no answer. I have no theories, I have not given it any real consideration, mostly because I think they should let Christian Bale’s Batman just be the only one standing for a while before they reboot the Batman franchise immediately, you know? But now the rumor (via Cosmic Book News) is that the very pretty boy in these photos, Tyler Hoechlin, is “being heavily considered for the part and will be getting a screen test alongside Henry Cavill.” But! “It’s also said that better known actors could also be testing for the role. As filming is expected to begin in early 2014, screen tests should be happening soon.”
Who is Tyler? Go here to see his IMDB. He’s 25 years old and the current star of MTV’s Teen Wolf. He’s beautiful in that Teen Beat kind of way. He reminds me of someone and I can’t put my finger on it. Like, he’s a mix of Taylor Kinney, Eddie Cibrian and…? I don’t know. He’s very pretty. Can he act?
Again, from Cosmic Book News, this will be the plot of the sequel:
“The sequel is set a year after Man of Steel, and the world is still getting used to having this powerful god on the planet who isn’t fully trusted by everybody. Batman certainly doesn’t trust Superman. Superman doesn’t trust Batman; either of which causes the two to clash when they initially meet. They do however pair up to defeat the villains (not 100% confirmed who the villains are). COULD be Luthor and Joker, but only a select few really know that. Luthor is definitely in the sequel and he doesn’t like Superman, believing him a threat to the planet.”
Ooh, that would be a HUGE mistake to put the Joker in this movie. HUGE mistake. Not after Heath Ledger’s iconic, defining portrayal, I’m sorry. Anyway, it basically seems like they’re just trying to jam everything they can get into this sequel because they’re hoping to make a Justice League film. Blah. I’m getting kind of tired of comic book movies.

Christian Bale was brilliant, can’t imagine anybody else as Batman.
Absolutely agree.
The only comic movies I’ve bothered myself with were Batman-for him and X-Men for Hugh Jackman.
Christian Bale’s voice in Batman was annoying. Michael Keaton > Val Kilmer > Christian Bale.
If you hated Christian’s Batman voice you should check out the spoof on it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2yv8aT0UFc
It’s hilarious, specifically because Bale’s voice was ridic in the films. We do his Batman voice a lot at my home.
His voice was digitally modified.
I think it’s well known that Batman’s and Bane’s voices were altered, right? Bane’s voice was just as stupid and just as mocked.
Few people know that the voice of Batman was alterade.
@ Nerd Alert:
Bane sounded like Zoidberg from Futurama. For the brief moments I could stand TDKR I was expecting him to say this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyXQdP8D2Rg
Bale’s Batman voice was just ridiculous — I tried to watch Batman Begins (for Cillian Murphy) but kept giggling every time Bale opened his mouth (as Batman) and there was this one scene where I laughed out loud (Gordon is taking out the trash and there’s Batman, cape billowing in the wind, all mysterious and shit and then…he speaks — LOL!).
Teen Wolf is my guilty pleasure. Hoechlin is adorable, but he’s not the best actor. I’ve seen worse, but…I can’t imagine he’ll actually be cast in the role, even if they do screen test him for it.
Take into account, this is the same source, I believe, that recently claimed another Teen Wolf star–Holland Roden–was going to play Mary Jane in one of the upcoming Spider Man movies. And that has already been proven false.
Its my guilty pleasure as well, and I gotta admit, I don’t think he’s at all bad in it. I would also say that he’s surprisingly funny. They could do worse, and he really is very pretty to look at.
He just doesn’t seem to have much range, though you’re right–his comic timing is pretty good.
But it could just be the show. Put him in front of a good director, and who knows what he could do.
But I will say on Teen Wolf, his character is already suspicious and likes to brood and has his whole family murdered so it’s not like he has to make much of a stretch. Plus I really like his face
Everything you said. He’s very pretty and does broody quite well.
I have never seen Teen Wolf. The last thing I saw him in was The Road to Perdition with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. He played his son and was probably around 13 or so. I wondered what happened to him, now I know. He was really good in the movie.
He looks to young and optimistic to be Batman, he needs to be slightly more mature and brooding i think. God it would be awful to put Joker in the movie. Couldn’t they bring in Two Face?
Brooding is actually the only thing he does well on Teen Wolf!
Right? It’s actually nice to see those pretty dimples of his for a change
I was thinking the same thing, he is too young to play Bruce Wayne. Very interested in seeing who actually gets the part.
What happened to JGL? I know he’s almost certainly out, but why? Wasn’t he being groomed to take over?
OMG not JGL please no….
I think WB is stepping away from TDK triology a bit. They knew it wouldn’t work with Robin becoming Batman. JGL has met with Marvel for a possible role in one of their films. Some believe they are looking at him for Dr. Strange. I was hoping they would have went with Viggo Mortensen but that fell through.
It must be nerve-wracking to be relatively unknown like him and have this dangled before him so publicly as a possibility. If it doesn’t happen, I’d guess it would be crushing. Wishing him luck…
No.
No.
No.
Please, no.
I am sure every male actor (20-45) is screen testing for the part (they’d be stupid not to) and this sounds like his people putting out some wishes into the universe. But no way.
And no to the Joker in the sequel. If they need a Bat baddie in this movie, there are plenty of others to pick from.
If we are continuing in the Nolan-verse Batman (Nolan is a producer on Superman, so I am guessing he’s involved in this) my money is going to be on Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking on the part.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
I have no idea why no one is bringing up JGL — the last film ended perfectly to set him up as the next Batman. Why wouldn’t they just use him???
Because JGL met with Marvel and they might want to use him in one of their films, the rumor is for Dr. Strange. Also Robin just can’t come in and all of a sudden he is Batman. WB knows that formula wouldn’t work. He would have to enter the series as Robin or Nightwing but he can’t all of a sudden be intorduced as Batman.
He was on 7th heaven
I’m ashamed to admit that’s where I know him from.. so lame.. anyway he’s attractive enough but 7th Heaven does not an actor make.. look at Jessica Biel..
@Kaiser – are you thinking about Kerr Smith? http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3610876672/nm0005445 I IMMEDIATELY thought ‘oh, it’s the dude who played the gay dude on Dawson’s.’ It’s the same face!
Kerr Smith, I would hit that in two seconds flat. reminds me of a kid I went to school with..
Yep! Kerr Smith plus a (thinner) Adam Pally from Happy Endings (RIP, Happy Endings!)
https://www.google.com/search?q=adam+pally&rlz=1C1SFXN_enUS499US499&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=tTHxUYC2KbCgyAGwjoDwBw&biw=1600&bih=799&sei=xzHxUb-LK4-MyAGah4CgAQ
MMM Adam Pally. I love a teddy bear.
Seriously they should just stop. Man of Steel may have been a good movie (I was bored throughout) but Cavil’s lame romance ended up losing him tons of female and male fans. The whole thing was so fake it just made you feel as if this guy was being pushed on you too much.
Also yes they need to just not even introduce a Batman or Joker! All the comparisons to Christian Bale and Heath Ledger are going to have people unfavorably comparing it to whatever sequel they have. Frankly they should just table Batman for now. Every freaking franchise except for Iron Man and Batman (Nolan franchise) has done this. You cannot overload the movie goer with too many villains or plots. We are going to get annoyed and confused and not have a dang clue what is going on.
They are rushing to introduce Batman, because they want to do a Justice League movie to as successful as Marvel with their The Avengers movie.
Marvel introduces The Avengers carefully over a decade though. IMO they first should do a second Superman movie and then 2017 have a Batman/Superman movie, then a new Batman movie etc. and then in 10 years do the Justice League movie.
Agreed. This has massive fail all over it. Heck people are still not that thrilled with the Spiderman reboot every man I know complained it was boring and about a romance and they hated it.
Henry Cavil cannot carry a freaking movie Hollywood! And throwing some guy on a MTV soap as Batman!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME! GRRRR
@Stella I believe the plan was to do a MOS 2 but because of the lack luster reviews and the fail attempt to reach the billion dollar mark they decided to go with the buddy pairing even though the film grossed over 600 mil worldwide. Lex Luther was supposed to be inroduced in the sequel hence the Lex Corp symbols you might have noticed in the film. ALso Cavill’s performance came off dry and stale.
I also wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to drop the Nolan influence since some critics were claiming that his name attached to it was part of the problem. Critics say they took Superman too much in the direction of Batman. Superman came off as dark and full of angst when those are the characteristics of Batman. Superman is the beacon of light and hope and Cavill’s Superman didn’t play it that way. I also doubt that we will see a Justice League anytime soon.
I’ve never seen Teen Wolf but may I say I prefer his “prettiness” than Cavill’s
Ah crap… this sequel is going to be such a mess I can’t wait to see it hehe!
No.
+1. No to this whole damn thing.
I’m hoping the studio will pull a “Cavill” and after boldly announcing the story for the sequel, they will quickly break up with it.
Yes to everything you said!
Man of Steel was awful.
An unknown and Henry Cavill vs. Robert Downey Jr. in The Avengers 2? lol
He must be using Blake Lively’s publicist.
THANK YOU!! We are going to get a million of these stories before the role is actually cast. Remember when sites were saying the absolute clear favorite for Captain America was John Krasinski? Ummm…how’d that work out? Remember Joe Manganiello’s not so subtle campaign for Superman? Nope! Thanks to the Internet and movie sites starving for hits we will endure more and more of this.
I think they were saying it would be John because Chris Evans turned down the role like three or four times before saying yes.
the rumors certainly don’t come from him, he never said or even hinted anything about it. the comic con news claims a DC source. just fyi.
he’s a very nice person, not a “media hype” type at all. personally I’d be very happy if he got the part, I think he’ll be a good Batman.
I don’t know, maybe. He definitely doesn’t have the gravitas to play a Frank Miller Batman, but I guess if Zack Snyder creates a whole different persona then he could do it.
Pretty looking guy but no. He’s too young. Try Viggo Mortensen.
Tyler is not the “best” actor but neither is Cavill in my opinion lol…i would love to see him outside of those horrible indie movies he has done to be honest i think his best acting roles are on TW tbh and he totally camps it up in the way the show is campy its amazing that this smiling dude is freaking derek hale – its something that is mind boggeling every time i see him in candids – it was totally surprising to even see him on this site!! aweosme surprise though – I AM A BIG STEREK FANGIRL ALSO BTW
“He reminds me of someone and I can’t put my finger on it. Like, he’s a mix of Taylor Kinney, Eddie Cibrian and…? I don’t know. He’s very pretty. Can he act?“
Does that matter? Was “acting” ever considered when they hired Cavill? I don’t think so.
true lol
Lol! So true!
Oh. Thank goodness someone agrees with me on that. People jump up my ass when I mention that Cavill is a crap actor. CRAP. ACTOR.
Yeah he may be incredibly beautiful and yes I’d tap that, but he can’t act, let’s be real indeed… I’m not going to be a hypocrite I actually enjoyed how he portrayed Superman because I was expecting worse and actually he managed to pull it despite the poor writing they came up with. BUUUUT overall yeah his range is below average; the other only minor credit was The Tudors but so far his character was whoring around more than anything else, doesn’t take a Brando acting ability to do that so…
@Nerd I’m totally with you; Cavill’s acting is horrible. Michael Shannon saved MOS.
actually he can act. maybe he’s not a Tom Hiddleston, but I think he’s a good actor, though teen wolf certainly limits his range. but funny enough he does currently play in it a broody badass (Alpha werewolf) guy who lost his whole family at a young age, and he plays it really well, so that makes him kinda perfect for Batman imo
Johnathon Schaech. When he was younger (before he developed those “character lines” that make men distinguished and handsome, and not old, like they do on women). Around the time of “That Thing You Do!”. Remember that? The first person I thought of when I saw Tyler’s picture was Johnathon Schaech.
I was thinking he looked kinda John Stamos-eqsue but you are spot on.
He’s not a great actor but I think he can show a better range of emotions than Cavill. 😉 Cavill comes across as wooden and unaffected.
IMO Tyler is more charismatic and ‘exciting’ on-screen even though his role in Teen Wolf is basically “flopping” all over the place and getting beaten up most of the time. 😀
That being said, I don’t know if he can be Batman.
It’s just way too soon to introduce a new Batman. I know everyone has their own preferences, but I thought Christian Bale was the best Batman. He looked the part, he played the part well. Even if his Batman voice was a tad annoying.
And I loved the way The Dark Knight Rises ended. Bruce Wayne was able to move on, Alfred was able to see his dream (A happy grown Bruce), Selina had her new start and John (Robbin) had his opportunity for greatness ahead of him. I thought we might see a movie centered around John (Robbin).
If they recast the role and continue with this iteration of the character, they will have to explain why he returned (or maybe the timeline is different and the Superman sequel happens prior to TDKR). If the reboot the Batman franchise, it just feels too soon. It was just last summer that TDKR was released.
This move screams of the studio trying to set up the Justice League movie as fast as possible having seen the success of the Marvel Avengers movies. I know they have wanted to do this for some time now, but they have struggled with casting. The previous Superman with Brandon Routh did not meet their expectations. They can’t get the Wonder Woman movie made. And now that Batman’s gone, they don’t have one person who could carry the overall franchise. For Marvel- RDJ was imperative to the success of the Avengers. Everyone else is replaceable. For the Justice League- I’m not sure Henry Cavill can carry it. I liked him as Superman, but I’m still not sure he can do it all.
And for the love of all that is good- DON’T DO JOKER. I never thought anyone could top Jack Nicholson. And then here comes Heath Ledger. His Joker was pure evil and madness. You can’t really compare the two because they were played so differently. But Ledger’s portrayal was deliciously dark and twisted and I can’t imagine anyone living up to that vision of him.
He’s too young to play Bruce Wayne IMO. But, he’s also too old looking for a 25-year-old! My friends that age still look like teens and we all get carded all the time lol
dead family, never ending battle for good, mile long chain of dead/evil love interest (well, except for the current one, but we’ll see) eternal manpain, dark and gloomy demeanor and a cute and sassy sidekick (yes, i’m talking about a certain cutie who doesn’t want to Robin all the time! called Stiles)…even if he’s not perfect as new-reboot Batman, he’ll still probably do a good job at it…
it probably won’t harm the movie more..especially since i think Cavill’s MOS was boring, having Tyler’s face should be reason enough for me to watch it
he is sooo good-looking
Yesssss!
I’m sorry but didn’t the Batman franchise leave JGL as the person to take over Batman’s duties? I know he is supposed to be Robin but the way Bruce spoke of Batman when JGL asked him why the mask, he said to protect people that he loves and so that “anyone” can be Batman. Tyler is pretty but that’s as far as I think it will go. They need to have JGL play Batman if they want to keep it going right.
Lastly, I COMPLETELY AGREE with NOT bringing in the Joker after Heath’s iconic and unforgettable portrayal. It would be a travesty.
The Batman (the dark knight) franchise and the Man of Steel franchise are totally two separate entities.
I could even see JGL being new Batman, it would be a nice nod to the DK franchise in the continuity sense and because having two HOT guys of similar features as superheroes in the same movie would just be too much, especially with crappy screenplay we’re about to be delivered with MoS sequel.
Batman should not be someone conventionally pretty, it becomes ridiculous then (Clooney, even Kilmer), but someone ‘normal’ who can juggle smart loner and playboy-millionare act.
THANK YOU
I said this upthread, but it would be ridiculous if they didn’t use JGL. A much better actor and would make far more sense than trying to reboot the franchise.
And Ari, of course they are separate runs but they are part of the DC universe and there are a lot of intertwining story lines between the two.
I actually figured that JGL would end up Robin or Nightwing (although I think that idea is not valid NW) not exactly Batman so there would still be a need for a batman and I think in the Man of Steel universe Batman would be significantly younger and while the same age as JGL I dont think he would be playing Bruce Wayne when he is specifically a character outside of Wayne in the Nolan universe I dont know…Hoechlin looks even younger shaved so its probably even worse lol
Ok people shoot me for saying this but I don’t think Heath was all that great as The Joker. He reminded me of Brandon Lee in The Crow except Heath was Evil. The make-up, the facial expressions were if Heath modeled his act after Brandon. It was more interesting to watch Harvey’s transformation from a good guy to a bad guy.
To me some of his greatest performances were BrokeBack Mountain, Monster Ball, The Patriot and Lord of Dogstown.
IMO if not for his untimely death I don’t think he would have won that Oscar. That’s my opinion.
Thanks. I thought his entire performance was just a bunch of facial tics. It was so overrated.
Nolan’s films were a stand alone trilogy. They are null and void to the revamp they are doing to gear up for the attempt at a Justice League movie. So they wouldn’t need anyone from the previous movies.
Exactly
Yummy. This guy is hot. I love guys with dark hair and light eyes.
I have no idea who he is, I don’t have cable or satellite so I don’t know a lot of these shows. I also don’t watch a lot of comic book movies. So I don’t care about casting and whatnot. But wowzers, he’s delish.
I think his smile looks exactly like that guy who played Stifler in the American Pie movies. Sean Williams or something? I am too lazy to google.
He is too young but he has more charisma, intensity and warmth than wooden, cold and bland Cavill.
His best role was playing Tom Hank’s surviving son in ‘Road To Perdition”
Thanks for the reference! I was thinking the whole time it’s a familiar face and I haven’t seen Teen Wolf…
So is it supposed to be like the Justice League, JLA or Batman/Superman from the new 52’s? That series only has 2 installment so far, so I suppose it will be JL or JLA. The art is awesome in the new 52 Batman/Superman.
Anyway, Batman can only make Superman better, IMO, but it would be tough to top Ledger’s Joker. They shouldn’t make someone try, but you know they will. Poor guy will probably never live it down, either, whomever he ends up being.
Last thing, LOL@ everyone being “sick” of comic book movies and wishing it would stop. Ain’t gonna happen, sorry. Do you know how many superheroes they can give movies? And all the ones they made already that turned out crappy (Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, anyone?) they will redo with better actors until they do as well as TDK or The Avengers.
This $hit is a gold mine and they’re gonna milk it until all franchises are spent, and then some. I assure you everyone on the planet will have to be over it by the time this all stops. Buckle up, it’s (sadly) only just beginning.
Not exactly a goldmine though or a surefire hit.
1- The Avengers was a flat out success
2- The Dark Knight,
3- The Dark Knight Rises
4- Iron Man 3
5- Spiderman (Tobey Maguire Spiderman) back in 2002. The problem is with Hollywood they keep thinking that the geeks are going to come out and support any piece of trash they have out there.
6-Spiderman 2
7-Spiderman 3
8-Iron Man
9-Iron Man 2
10-Man of Steel (Henry Cavil) he couldn’t knock Iron Man 3 out of the top spot which should be worrying for those who track these numbers.
Thor is 21.
X-Men Origins Wolverine is 22 on the list (hope Jackman can revive that character since critics hated that movie).
Captain America The First Avenger is 24.
X-Men First Class is 28 so even though it was better received then X-Men The Last Stand (shudder) it still made less money.
For most people they want good storytelling. I can tell you that the reason why the newest Spiderman re-boot didn’t do as well as they thought was because it was way too soon after Maguire’s Spiderman had come out.
Same problem will erupt here and then the Superman franchise will massively fail again and they can forget about doing the JL movie.
I just can’t get into the New 52s! They ruined Harley and the whole thing with Joker’s face being ripped off is just a big no thanks for me.
Did you hear about The Flash being in the Superman sequel? Him and Batsy will make appearances which makes me think they’ll end up doing another movie that has Green Lantern in it- though I doubt they’d do a stand alone movie for him again. Comic con 2013<3
IMO – he can play with, on, in, anything the hell he wants. DAMN HOT.
I’m also tired of comic book movies.
NO.
ABSOLUTELY NOT..
NEVER.
HELL NO.
And the same to JGL too. No.
I think DC might be going for an older version of BW following his retirement as Batman as to ‘revive’ the story line that once provided a backdrop to the Superman vs Batman script and eventually found its way to a bin somewhere.Tyler Hoechlin is obviously too young if DC intend to go the ‘old’ route so my choice would either be Jim Caviezel or better yet,Nikolaj Coster-Waldau!
Oh Samantha…both Nikolaj and Jim are good choices! I don’t know if their TV commitments might not give them the time to do the movie, guess it depends when it films.
I saw a website that recommended Karl Urban, I thought he was a good choice.
The Nolan films aren’t going to be apart of the new movies that are supposed to lead to the Justice League movie. So they wouldn’t have to make up for the retirement 🙂
Who?
C’mon, Cavill would eat this guy’s lunch. And Cavill ain’t exactly Robert DeNiro. Could this guy even get a job on a CW show? No denying he’s hot, but there’s more to that if you want to play with the big boys (i.e., Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner et al.)
I think he’s too young.
But he’d work really well with the visual style that Snyder goes for. Somtimes his character on Teen Wolf looks like an actual CGI creation:
http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m7oiu150oF1raquwko1_500.gif
No, he should not be Bruce Wayne. I’d be rather disappointed if DC used him for Batsy. Bruce has a regal appearance about him, he is a polished playboy. This guy looks like he would have worked for one of the various Rogue Gallery masterminds of Gotham. I can maybe see him as Nightwing though, just maybe.
Hi 2 all,
My opinion, Bale should return. Otherwise a sure flop is on the way through this movie. Rebooting batman is gonna be a massive mistake. Instead continuing the Nolan batman is the best option for WB. Bale was the perfect bruce batman. Replacing him with tyler might be confusing for some or good for few.
But tyler for batman would make him a sidekick to superman. He wouldn’t be able to bring in the magic like bale as the bale version was focused on batman. Here 2 heroes come 2gether and both of them needs to get equal importance.
Its easy to comment. We may need to see how the movie comes out finally.
Once again, I VOTE FOR BALE AS BATMAN.
Its jesse metcalfe. He looks like the guy from desperate housewives that was banging eva longoria
Bale will always be my Batman. Rebooting it this early is irritating.
If they still insist, all I can think of now is Viggo Mortensen and Clive Owen. Eh basically the same actors who will audition for the next Bond can try to audition for the next Batman lol.
You guys undstand how these comoc book deals work right? They have to use them or lose them. Meaning that if they dont continue to put the character in movies the rights will revert back to DC. That’s why they’re already re-doing Spiderman. The rights are just way too valueable to let go, so they’re jjst going to make more movies. I wouldnt mind if they moved away from the superserious Nolan movies, though. Ugh.

Why not try with Bradley Cooper, he’s not too old, not too young. I mean, every dude in the universe want to be Batman, if the studio make a good offer, he might said YES.
He kinda reminds me of a young Johnathan Schaech. I think he’s cute. He does brooding well (on Teen Wolf), so I think he could pull it off.
Wow so much Henry Cavill hate. He is a good actor. Is he the greatest greatest actor ever? No, but there are plenty of mediocre borderline bad actors out there who get prime roles. Mark Wahlberg comes to mind. Why do people think he is a good actor?? Henry did solid work in The Tudors. If people actually paid attention to the series as a whole instead of focusing on the sex scenes. Henry is still young and has plenty of opportunity to grow as an actor. Let’s not forget also that he is stunningly beautiful. He is not boring like people think, he just has respect and class in interviews. I’ve seen many where he let loose more. He is just mindful and a bit shy with the public..why does that make him boring? I think it makes him interesting and mysterious if anything.
