This is a photo of Miley Cyrus on the German TV show “Schlag den Raab” where she performed “We Can’t Stop” with a band full of little people. If you’re curious, EW.com has video of the act. I think this performance was supposed to be shocking. Miley is wearing Tom Ford and vintage Chanel to continue working her “white trash and Chanel” vibe. She’s only pulling off the “trashy.”
Now onto slightly more interesting fare. Late last week, Lainey posted a blind item that seemed to point towards Miley losing a much coveted Vogue cover. This is a believable story as it follows the lead-up with Miley scoring a September couture spread for Harper’s Bazaar. Yes that spread was shot by Terry Richardson and looked like a bad R. Kelly video, but it increased Miley’s fashion portfolio. That shoot — along with Miley’s punky win at the Met Gala — convinced Anna Wintour to give Miley a shot. Now we have confirmation via The Mail’s Sunday diary that Miley was scheduled for the December Vogue cover. She did the shoot and everything. But it’s all over now. Thanks to Miley’s VMA twerking, Wintour is reshooting with another model:
Miley Cyrus’s crude dance at the MTV Video Music Awards has cost her the coveted cover slot on American Vogue.
The 20-year-old, right, was photographed for the December issue as editor-in-chief Anna Wintour had been eager to champion her as a new fashion icon.
But she soon changed her mind after witnessing the singer perform her overtly sexual routine in latex bra and knickers.
“Anna found the whole thing distasteful,” a source says. “She decided, based on Miley’s performance, to take the cover in a different direction.”
[From Daily Mail]
Man, this doesn’t look good for Miley. Both of her major chart rivals of the moment, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, have each done their own Vogue covers. Miley was playing out of her league, but Anna was willing to give Miley a shot. Yet Miley preferred to make momentary history with a quick attention grab. Too bad.
Meanwhile, Miley is still twerking it up with this caption to one of her Facebook photos: “I always knew I’d see my name in lights.” Miley doesn’t care that you’re talking badly about her. All she wants is for you to keep talking. Richard Simmons says Miley just “needs to be loved.” Are you still listening, Liam Hemsworth?

*cackling*
Maybe they’ll finally give it to Victoria Beckham? She did offer up her husband and only female barn to her at fashion week.
This is even more hilarious because it shows how much Anna Wintour hates Kim Kardashian. I don’t care if Miley lost the cover, at least she had one to lose in the first place. I don’t even know if Kim Kardashian is even allowed to walk past the Vogue offices.
I think if Wintour saw her walk past, she might burst into flames… Wintour not Kim K.
HH! she can’t walk by the offices! hysterical…
what’s tragic is how hard does VOGUE suck if she was ‘considered’ and all ready ‘shot the cover??
any cred left is gone.
just cancelled my subscription.
Ugh she DID allow Kim to the Met Gala. I still can’t get over that.
@Paige
Couldn’t agree more. American Vogue is going downhill. I decided to cancel my subscription when I saw they’d called Miley an “It Girl”. As if.
Her desperation underscores her lack of talent.
I hope she goes away soon.
I don’t think she is going to age well. That’s all I have this morning.
Agreed.
She’s going to look really cheap and ugly before too long with the continuing visits to get more tattoos. Nothing ruins a body more than overdoing the tats. One or two is fine but it never seems to be enough. Most of the time they look like crap anyway.
Way to generalize, sabrine. *rolls eyes*
@Sabrine – Then I guess it’s just a great thing that no one here w\tattoos gives a flying fuck what you think of them (Including subject matter, art, style, OR amount & where.) =)
she is already looking like jerri blank from strangers with candy
shame on anna for even considering her in the first place, unless vogue is saying that wearing hoods that cover your face are in for fall
Nearly spit my coffee on to the computer at the mention of Jerri Blank. Made my morning.
Any and all Strangers with Candy references will make my day go better. Thanks!
Trying so hard to be Rihanna 2.0..and failing.
If you consider Rihanna trashy…well then yeah. But if she’s trying to be Rihanna, going by Miley’s actions that’s more of an insult to Rihanna than Miley.
Bieber in drag
She has no talent whatsoever to pull off anything Rhiannaesque, that’s for sure.
But I wonder if Miley or her management has realized that, and are now experimenting with what the public will tolerate from a performer.
I think Miley may well be a performance troll….her “performance” doesn’t matter, per say, it’s the response it generates. Much like trolls on any internet site, they cant always mean the frighteningly ignorant, immature, thoughtless or hateful comments they make, But trolls Release those ideas out there, step back and gleefully wait for the fallout, when it comes. Much like most of what Miley’s doing these days.
Doesn’t matter if people get it, or agree with it, or are entertained – they just want you talking about it. And we are, aren’t we?
Well put.
a big difference is that rhianna is largely seen as “tortured artist” type and people feel bad for her because they think she has a lot of inner turmoil. miley is thought of as a ditzy tween. so no matter how hard she tries to be like rhianna, she just looks foolish. not that riri never comes off as foolish herself.
@Luffy – I agree, that bc of Miley’s upbringing, childhood (& majorly successful childhood career), people are far less likely to buy the ‘inner turmoil’ from her, w/the exception of ‘Oh no, I broke up w/my BF! I’m torn up inside, life is OVER‘.
Not to say there’s no serious problems outside of those presented in a lot of rap/hip-hop. Just that she doesn’t have the cred to back it up when she tries to use it in her lyrics.
Rihanna may not either, I don’t know, I can’t stand the person she’s become.Shes a drunk drug-addled disgrace.
Guess things aren’t twerking out for her.
+1000. Love puns!
*chuckle*, Brin!
LOL!
hahahahahahaha you killed it!
It had to be done.
* slow clap *
Yessssss. Haha
kilarious
Ha
brin won the internet! everyone else go home.
Hahahahahaha! High 5, brin!
how do I love thee, brin? Let me count the ways.
I got nothin’ that can top that.
🙂 🙂
i was searching so hard for this blind yesterday! glad you posted it.
i knew it was miley, but had assumed it was a playboy cover, and didn’t consider vogue. yikes!
Too bad. Now she doesn’t have to hear/read a bunch of remarks about how she doesn’t belong on the cover.
The drums are ruined! I wanna walk by and kick that awful drawn on face in!
I just want to shake her. Yes, people are talking about Miley… but you notice that the one thing they’re not actually talking about is her music? She’s on the path to sell her singles now, but to become a joke in the long run.
They are talking about her but her brand is ruined.
Fabulous news, actually. This trashy, hillbilly brat doesn’t deserve to be on the hallowed cover of US Vogue. Glad Nuclear Wintour finally saw the light.
Honey that ain’t a Hillbilly gal….she was raised in Burbank California…..ain’t on bit of Hillbilly about her.
🙂
Yeah. People need to stop insulting real hillbillies by calling this b!tch one.
She was born in Franklin, TN and spent her pre-teen years there, though. They moved when she was 8 or 9 due to Billy Ray’s tv show.
OK, so what’s with the tongue? I don’t get it.
No one really knows, it’s become her signature pose for photos, one of the many things about Miley that makes NO sense.
She’s a Gene Simmons fan?
Google “Rihanna talk that talk cover”.
Wow…..You have a good eye….I never made the connection and I am a RiRi fan
Or even just google “Rihanna tongue.” Miley has ripped off a lot of her current schtick from Rihanna’s persona. Soon she’ll be claiming to be from Barbados too.
What are the similarities (is it just the tongue poking or what, honest question)? I love her second photo of her with the smoke, I get behind that. But the tongue I’m over.
@DommyD: She seems to be a big admirer of Rihanna’s sexy rebellious thug style and (at the moment) is trying to capture the same image for herself.

http://stylecaster.com/miley-cyrus-rihanna-chanel/
@Cirque28
Thank you!! I can completely see it. How can Miley even wear some of the stuff just days after Rihanna. Miley is going single white female hard on RiRi.
Someone told her it’s sexy. They lied. Like Blohan with her dirty finger in her mouth all the time. Not hot.
Anna, best move EVAR! Now let Miley spiral down into nothing more relevant than a pole stripper.
I think it is at least equal to Anna clipping Kim Kartrashian’s pic on the best dressed list after the met Gala. Of course that was after she had Kanye’s BFF Ricardo Tiscci dress her in a couch covering. I actually think the Kartrashian snub might be better than the Miley snub. The fact that they were even considering putting Miley, a drug supporter, on the cover show them to be incompetent. I think Anna has lost her credibility these days. Something tells me that Kim might get her Vogue piece after all one day. If not the cover than definitely a nice spread inside.
That’s a laugh, perhaps you are familiar with Kate Moss? Plenty of drug “supporters” in fashion.
Ugh, this girl is a perpetual 15 year old. You can just tell by the way she talks and acts, she wants attention and to be taken seriously but she just keeps making herself a bigger joke. She’s just embarrassing to watch as someone who’s her age, I would never dream of acting like that, I refuse to give her the “she’s young” pass, even though I used to stick up for her. Now I look a fool!
Side note, has anyone ever seen the snl skit where Will Ferrell is Robert Goulet and he’s promoting his cd “coconut bangers ball” and he insults black people, rappers and their music? When I heard she called her cd bangerz, that’s what came straight to mind
Yes, His robert goulet skits were excellent; VMA act or not, chipmunk should be on the cover of Field and Stream, Not vogue;
We’ve gone from the supers – Cindy, Linda,Christy,Naomi,Yasmeen,Stephanie,Tatjana, etc. – to even contemplating putting this half-witted, no talent child on the cover of what once was the flagship of American Fashion.
Totally agree, vogue should be for MODELS who MODEL for a living, what happened to the household name supermodel?
That’s all I think of is Will Ferrell as Robert Goulet, lol. Him staring down the deer and singing the thong song. It’s a rap!
Is there any group of people on this planet she won’t use as accessories for her “performances”?
I don’t like Cyrus being Slut-shamed but people need to stop talent-shaming her as well. There is no need to accuse her of singing and dancing that night. Stop the talent shaming when she clearly has none.
+1
+2 Maya
This is the most disturbing part. At first when people started talking about her using the black backup dancers as accessories for her VMA performance, I won’t lie, I kiiiind of thought people were being too hypersensitive. Then I went back and watched it and I think there’s truth there. Now, she’s using little people as accessories. Ridiculous. Why would they agree to this? It’s blatant.
I agree. Gwen stafanni did that with the Haroshuko girls too. not ok!
I didn’t even realize at first they were little people, I thought she was standing on something. That seriously makes me sick and dizzy with anger, what a cheap, d*ck thing to do, is there anyone she won’t exploit? Her stage shows suck regardless, and she can’t perform, much less sing or dance, so she uses people as props? I’m trying not to freak out right now, so I’ll just placate myself with the thought that all of these people probably outperform her any and every day of the week
The girl definitely twerks better than Miley, but I don’t know if that is much of an upside for that performance.
Her use of little people as accessories is unnecessary and pretty disgusting, but all in all I think she would have been better served if her VMA performance looked more like this and less like the complete train wreck it was.
Hahaha! Well done! It’s true, I saw no talent that night, shaming her for it is just wrong.
The crash with this one is going to be scary. Period.
Someone just warn me when she starts using tattooed Irish gingers as props. I’ll need to hide.
Larry Rudolph ehm Miley should have taken some notes from Lady Gaga attention grab years: she used all the tricks in the book and now no one is paying attention to her. Miley isn’t even near to Lady Gaga fame, is using all the tricks and she hasn’t even a Vogue cover….
all that money, and she opts for a grill over braces.
The problem with this girl is that she is more gawky than sexy. Does she not have ‘people” who recognize this train wreck for what it is?
Yes. This is the problem people have with her. There is a lack of congruity between Miley’s haircut/new look/tongue act and Miley herself. So, she seems gawky and the act seems disingenuous and forced. She is not being true to herself and it is not attractive.
this may sound niave but why does miley want to not be true to herself?
I love you, Anna Wintour.
No vogue cover…big surprise.
She is ruining teddy bears for me.
If that’s not the truth I don’t know what is.
Wow…. she incorporated “little people” into her performance? I’m thinking she is perpetually 12 years old.
I think she is perpetually unoriginal. A band ( blink 182 I think) had a performance with little people at the VMAs several years ago. I guess it goes to show how pointless going for shock value is when I remember the little people but can’t be sure about the band or song.
I actually remember that Blink 102 performance. I think they were doing “All the Small Things”, and used little people. Nothing that Miley does seems fresh, original, genuine or in good taste…and using people as props..VMAs and now this…it’s obvious that she is extremely immature and not very bright.
The fact that Wintour ever thought Miley should go on her cover shows how out of touch she is with the younger generations.
The fact that she’s pulled her does the same.
I can’t believe Anna would have ever considered her for the cover. She’s famously avoided putting Posh on the cover, even though she has a legitimate presence in the fashion world. But she’d put Miley on it?
….but she’s never put a designer on the cover. be it Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren or Marc Jacobs or any of her pet designers and whether Posh likes it or not, she’s a designer now.
Edna Mode likes to highlight either Models or Singers or Actresses or sports personality with the occasional first lady or Oprah on the cover….Posh is none of those things. she’s a designer now, so she goes into the pages, but not the cover.
And as much as she likes to forget it, Posh already has a cover. January 1998 when she was a Spice girl AKA a singer, so Edna Mode is only going about her usual business.
If Posh wants a cover so badly, she better take up performing again. Then she’ll be on that cover pronto.
Vogue is dead. It has been for sometime.
It’s not a tastemaker anymore and it’s not even willing to take a little heat. I’m not a Miley fan or in that demographic but Anna could have taken the tack of showing us what she saw in her, for better or worse.
The September Vogue is just a big ad catalougue. The rest is so old.
Original G – couldn’t agree with you more! Vogue has become a shadow of what it used to be.
@littestar. Am I the only one that used to read it for the articles?
Ans believe or not, Vogue needs a Miley(or some such) more that Miley needs Vogue.
Original G- I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Anna Wintour needs to step down and Grace Coddington needs to be made editor. Coddington is the best part of Vogue now
Edna Mode has spoken.
I can’t believe how quickly she has saturated us with her message of Chanel & trash, bangerz, twerking, hardcore, bears, here’s my tongue in case you forgot my signature move, here’s my butt in case you forgot my other signature move…
http://theweek.com/article/index/238306/why-repeating-your-message-isnt-the-same-as-staying-on-message
Yet, Victoria Beckham cannot get a cover. I am kind of at at a lost for Anna Nuclear thinking on this one.
To be fair, VB does have an American vogue cover. With the Spice girls. January 1998. That’s the only cover Edna Mode has regretted publicly.
What?! how did I not know that? You know she would rather not have one at all than have one as a Spice Girl! That’s hilarious. This just added the most delicious layer to Victorias Vogue cover saga.
Becky – Here you go:
http://img237.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=98800_vus-01-1998-sg-mt-01_122_479lo.jpg#
Oh my god – just stick that stupid tongue back in your mouth!
If you pull it out far enough, will it snap back like a window shade?
Her tongue sticking out like that all the time makes her look like a iguana trying to catch dinner…..She is repulsive but she knows her star is falling since her Hannah Montana days and she is willing to do anything to stay in the limelight….She’s not trying to shake the Hannah Montana image. about now she’s wishing she had it back….cause she’s gone from a little girls dream heroine to a little girls nightmare……and she is also another victim of that soul sucker Terry Richardson…..every one who has even been exposed to that man loses their soul …and they come out dead eyed like she is…Or Lindsay Lohan his past model of youth …or so many of the young people in Hollywood….I swear that man is the head of the Devils soul stealing group….look how many he has ruined……
Miley’s performance helped further the agenda of Terry and thousands of other anonymous internet perves out there to normalize and mainstream child pornography.
+1
Gross, but true. Yuck!
Yeah. The sky is falling.
Miley covering Vogue?! Anna Wintour is letting just anyone there now. And yet Victoria Beckham has been campaigning for years to get the cover
VB has a cover. January 1998
http://img237.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=98800_vus-01-1998-sg-mt-01_122_479lo.jpg#
You know I mean one by herself. One of her as Victoria Beckham, fashion designer, not Posh Spice, the one in the group who cant sing
OK..her new video is out & she is naked & licking a hammer…Let the controversy continue for ever and ever.
I saw it too! WOW! She need to put some clothes on!
Yup, it’s actually kind of a nice song but the germaphobe in me cannot get behind sitting naked on a wrecking ball and provocatively *snort* licking a hammer, she is trying SO hard to be sexy.
Oh and Creepy Uncle Terry directed so yeah, that explains the messiness of the video.
Exactly!
Hee, that reminds me of this little gem from Nathan Fillion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JULyx-wZih8
Michael K (dlisted) said it best:
“SALIVA. Bitch, drink some water. You’re thirsty (in more ways than one).”
Seriously laughed out loud…
F— Vogue. F— Liam. This is getting beyond the beyond. Using black dancers as props, using little people for “shock” value… I don’t understand who is letting this happen. Little people are people, and it’s totally cool to hire dancers without discrimination, but having entire group of little people means Miley intentionally sought out little people and USED them. I don’t understand why. What do people in the entertainment industry think of little people? That they are toys? I’m disgusted.
The ignorant girl probably thinks that she’s being inclusive, openminded, and impartial by doing this, but she’s going about it in the wrong way. She needs to be taught the difference between accepting and including all kinds of people, vs. making them look like accessories.
This is what hurts her swelled head will do ANYTHING to make some childhood wound go away shes a fool making a fool of others
Bet shell end up in a sanitorium in30yrs
I don’t understand why someone with absolutely no a** to shake would try to make twerking their thing. I am not saying that if you don’t have curves you can’t dance but if you don’t have anything to shake you shouldn’t try to center your show around your non-existent rear.
I’m blown away by how she has morphed into a totally different person in just a few short months.
Hollywood – a completely different universe.
She is gross. I’m surprised she didn’t have one of the little people simulate oral sex on her standing up during that performance. Well, there is always next time Miley.
HAHHHHHBWAHHH….
ANNA WINTOUR I LOVE YOU
She is sooooo STUPID!! So sick of her wanna be Rihanna Image.. put that nasty tongue back inside your mouth.. so not appealing and its ridiculous!
There is NO WAY that Anna Wintour cancelled Miley’s vogue cover because of her doing dirty dance moves in a bikini on stage. If that were the case, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Chrisina Aguilera would have never gotten any vogue covers, with all of the dirty-dancing and revealing outfits they’ve had during performancs. If Anna Wintour revoked Miley’s vogue cover, it has to be because of the culturally insensitive nature of her performance.
LMAO! Anna Wintour gives f-ck all about the cultural insensitivity. Sorry Christina Aguilera probably got her first vogue cover either during or after the back to basics era, rihanna is pretty and controversial and sexy, and Gaga is pretentious aaahhhtt and fashion. Miley’s just gross.
Amen, Bijlee.
Christina Aguilera’s vogue cover was in 2002 or 2003, which means it was during her Dirrty phase.
Maybe you have a point- maybe because Christina is talented, Rihanna is pretty, and Lady Gaga is ‘artsy’, she was willing to give them a pass. (Beyoncé too- she’s had her share of ‘raunch’, yet she’s had a vogue cover).
But I still doubt that a raunchy performance in a revealing costume is enough to make Anna Wintour reject someone from vogue, especially if she has already deemed that person a ‘fashion icon’. I still suspect that it’s the blatant cultural insensitivity- and the headlines that that aspect of the performance made. People all over the internet and news media were talking about it.
It would be funny if she put one of Miley’s ‘pop rivals’ on the cover instead. Like Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato, or Selena Gomez:)
@leila you’re purposely missing the point. It isn’t the nudity or bikini or whatever that Wintour took pause too, it’s not even the cultural insensitivity. While people have been talking about the latter it’s been a limited sphere because most people don’t care. Sure it could play a part…but a VERY small part in Wintour’s line of thinking and possibly just an afterthought to further justify her already not putting her on the cover. It’s the horrendous performance and especially the subsequent backlash. It’s pretty clear no one liked the performance. It sucked, reeked of desperation, and she was just plain awful. There’s a certain class Wintour seems to want to project and well Miley just didn’t fit with that. People were talking about the cultural insensitivity before the performance too…didn’t seem to be any part of Wintour’s process then so why now?
And I can’t find Christina’s vogue cover, so I’m not sure if she had one.
Xtina has never had a vogue cover. Perhaps you are thinking of Britney whose ONLY cover was November 2001.
From January 2002-December 2005 it is ONLY Hollywood actresses on the cover.
After 2005, there are a handful of musicians on the cover, but Xtina isn’t one of them.
Leila: Taylor Swift has a cover. February 2012.
Miley, for god’s sake, keep your tongue in your mouth where it belongs.
The tongue thing is repulsive.
I wish I had her self-confidence.
(I’d settle for having her level of delusion, though.)
She dose not have self-confidence if she was confident she wouldn’t be trying so hard to get outside attention and going for the shock value.
Getting necked dose not = self-confidence
I’m gonna have to disagree with that one. A person can be confident but still like nudity and feel that naked photos in magazines are not a bad thing, and be very big on wearing whatever they want, or they can be really insecure and go naked. You can’t really tell by the nudity/semi-nudity in and of itself.
For some people it’s not a matter of self-confidence or lack of self-confidence- it’s about not liking to be told what to do, and wanting to let everyone know that that’s how they feel about it. With Miley, I think THAT’S always been the issue.
I never said you can be confident but still like nudity. What I meant is that not every person that gets necked is confident.
Which is true Getting necked dose not = self-confidence thier are lot of people out their getting necked with no self-confidence IE Miley.
I read this yesterday but then read another article which said the rumors were BS and cover was going ahead. I think she will continue to get her fame and fortune regardless of her behavior.
Miley is what..all of 21? Geez she has been working since the age of 11 and it seems these Disney kids always go a bit wild after they come of age. I say Vogue will survive with a Miley cover but I have a sinking feeling that Anna Wintour’s love for everything Kanye West will cave into his begging and put Kanye, Kimmode and little North West on a cover with a large spread on the inside and that will be the death of Vogue for me. No matter what you think of Miley she has worked hard these past ten years and all Kimmode has ever done was make and distribute porn. And Kanye West is one of the biggest hypocrites walking the earth. He is not a great singer, rapper or designer or writer. He can simply produce. That’s it.
Dawn, you’re a brave soul to venture any positive points about Miley on this site. In support, I echo your sentiments. Miley has worked, for years, to get where she is. And Kanye West is overrated to the degree that it feels almost like a brainwashing, of sorts. Like the media has beat that drum for so long until people walk away saying, “He’s a genius.” HE IS NO SUCH THING. Not even close.
And, in an effort to further deflect heat off of you, I will go one step more and say that with the exception of the sledgehammer licking, I liked the “Wrecking Ball” video. I may not always agree with her choices, but so far I am enjoying her music. She has a gorgeous body, and frankly the “bareness” of it all fits the desperate theme of the song.
Come at me, internet! *fists up, helmet on*
Even if she’s going wild since she’s come of age it’s still her fault public opinion and the vogue cover are gone. She’s techincally an adult and is able to make intelligent decisions. Instead she goes the route of wanting attention which is unfortunately (almost always) smaller outfits and crude behavior (for most). She has herself to blame. I was no where near where Miley is at when I was twenty one. She’s a spoiled child who has never been told no. But my comment wasn’t to argue while you make some points I agree with.
I haven’t seen the video but I grew up watching Britney and Christina so I’m using my imagination for this one. Riding a ball naked, she may have topped Xtina’s chaps in the raunch- though I wanted a pair when that era of Christina was relevant 😛
Eyeroll. Kanye west while an egotistical moronic douche is a talented guy who was able to get by on his OWN merits. And yes HE is talented. Miley is a manufactured Barbie doll that relied on Disney marketing and her parents to sell every bit of their daughter for fame, money, and attention to a starved demographic. Kanye is controversial and entertaining and unfortunately for y’all has actually made some good points and some great music throughout his career. Miley is just thirsty for your love. She lives in this bullsh-t age where your rebellion your every action is considered some empowerment stance…when it’s just bs marketing. Sorry not sorry, Miley is what she’s always been, manufactured to the core.
I wouldn’t say that all of the backlash/hate Miley Cyrus has gotten from the time she was 15 up until now has been her fault. A lot of the hate has to do with our deep-seated puritanical ‘hang-ups’ when it comes to human sexuality, clothing, nudity, and females. The vast majority of the hatred she gets is not because she’s done anything horrible or that a person does not have every right to do. Let’s be real: if Miley Cyrus had spent the last 5 years dressing modestly like a good girl and abstaining from all of the sinful dance moves that society feels are too taboo, do you think people on this site or elsewhere would dislike her so much? Probably not. And I think that’s a shame- in the 21st century, dance moves and physical appearance should not garner the level of animosity that they do. I bet a lot of people would give Miley Cyrus a pass for her lack of talent and the delusional things she has said in her past few interviews if it weren’t for her- gasp!, grab those pearls- ‘immodesty’.
Bijlee, your eyeroll is returned. Talent is a subjective term, being subjective to personal definition. Most of Kanye’s songs are about garbage: how rich he is, how great he is. I’m quite familiar with his work. He’s an excellent producer. An average wordsmith. And a horrible person. To each their own. But without getting in with Jay Z, we would have no idea who Kanye West even is. For crying out loud, half the time he’s not even the best rapper on his own songs! Examples? Monster–Nicki Minaj dominated that song. There’s a reason why her verse was put in last–no one could top it. Mercy–as painful as it is to say, 2 Chainz of all people had the best verse on that. Not to say that Kanye hasn’t had his share of great turns of phrase, his best IMO actually came on Jesus Walks, where he blithely commented, “They be asking us questions/Harass and arrest us/Saying, ‘We eat pieces of s**t like you for breakfast’/Huh? Y’all eat pieces of s**t?/What’s the basis?/We ain’t goin nowhere, but got suits and cases.” That last turn is fantastic. But he is inconsistent at best. And the richer he’s gotten, the more superficial his work has become. New Slaves is good. But the whole “300, like the ROMANS” line in Black Skinhead just proves exactly how dumb he can be. Yet, he’s the Steve Jobs of rap. Pssh, sit down, Kanye. Eminem is the Steve Jobs of rap. 8 out of 10 of his songs are about deeply personal, painful experiences. They’re about feelings and life. And the other 2 are throwaway garbage.
As far as Miley goes, tell you what: when you’ve worked God awful long days since you were 10, maybe a supposition about not working hard should be in order for you, too. There’s work there, “product” or not.
TL;DR: Kanye’s overrated, Miley’s not an innovator by any stretch but also not the devil.
@Leila: PREACH.
@Dannielle Look I’m not disagreeing with talent is subjective or Kanye as an artist. I absolutely agree Kanye is a way better producer than anything else. Kanye is not, nor has been a great (I’ll say it good) rapper. Did I say he was a genius??? No and I certainly wouldn’t classify Eminem as a genius rapper either. While Eminem is fantastic and yeah has put out meaningful music…alot of other rappers have too who I would personally place ahead of him. But like you said subjective.
My point was that both you and Dawn compared Miley’s hard work (I called it child labor) and Kanye to each other. Basically saying because she’s worked hard her entire life and Kanye being overrated, blindly worshipped, etc and thus undeserving of anything versus Miley. Both have worked hard. One relied on his own merits to get ahead, while the other relied exclusively on the Disney marketing machine and her achy breaky father. Kanye is NOT the great artist he thinks himself to be, but he is talented and yeah…worked hard. He’s made something, produced a lot of good work. Miley has done nothing but been a brand for practically her entire life. Look even now she’s just a brand, not an artist, not an icon, a brand. She and her director have stated multiple times they aren’t here to make music, but get views, make money, “win a Grammy” lol.
Do I think the “slut-shaming” of miley cyrus is okay? No. Do I think people tend to be hyper critical of her because of her whole ridiculous image that her parents heavily encouraged and pushed for. Yeah. I totally do. And again I absolutely hate that children are pushed for such things as I have stated in the past. She was a child. And honestly her development seems so stunted that she still acts like she’s 15. I tend to be really mean about her parents. They should have stopped that ish and frankly never started it. They should have retained more control over their daughters image and time, not exploited her at every corner. Well she’s financially well off so she doesn’t have to worry for the rest of her life. I guess that’s okay.
But sorry her talent as an artist (and since it is subjective) is just non existent to me. She’s pure marketing from start to finish. Controversy heightens her brand and makes her more money. Alot more. In the end everyone around miley makes bucket loads of cash and her own ego, self-esteem etc take the blow. So I clearly see Kanye as a little more deserving than her. The whole Kimye thing is a whole nother ballgame.
You know what, Bijlee? I think we might agree more than we thought. =) I hear you.
Kayne can’t perform live without the backup track playing his autotune. Not a real rapper.
i wish she would leave the stuffed animals out of this mess.
Geez, that tongue. And the little people in the band looks exploitive.
The Twerk Jerk and teddy bear molester strikes again. USA Today reported on the Vogue debacle; the spokesperson saying they do no comment on editorial content. I think Vogue is gauging public sentiment. If it looks like Miley = loss issue sales and long-time subscribers it won’t run with it.
I don’t care what this girl says – throwing your picture on Instagram everyday is a cry for attention and sniping at critics on Twitter means the criticism IS getting to you. Trying to write her as a marketing genius is a stretch; she’s not that smart.
I’m dealing with funeral arrangements, but I can’t resist a comment on this one. I love thinking about PR strategy.
What I think is interesting is how the story turned over the weekend to the December cover. Was this a way of Miley’s team trying to pressure Empress Anna to reconsider? Her album is being release d on October 8th. The October or November covers would have been much more advantageous to her. I have no idea on how fast a magazine cover can be pulled and changed. When we had weeklies, they changed courses all the time. I’m curious.
If Miley is trying to lock horns with Nuclear Witnour Miley will be the one gorged.
How many times do I have to repeat this. MILEY YOU HAVE NO ASS. Stop. She’s trying to prove she does have one ever since her VMA performance. The amount of memes and comparisons that came out after it… Ahahahahahahaha.
And also, I will forever be laughing. This is what you get you spoiled child. Forever laughing at Miley Cyrus. Kim K can hashtag it or something: #foreverlawlingatMileyCyrus
or as Kim would write it: 4evlolnoasscyrus
anyone seen the seriously pr0n-y video to Wrecking Ball? Uncle Terry outdid himself. Ugh
Daily Mail has her new video where she’s completely naked on a wrecking ball.
Then she’s peaked. Can’t get more naked than naked. The only way she can escalate the exhibitionism now is to give us ride-alongs when her physician does an endoscopy.
I figured the next step was giving a show to the cameras or audience if you know what I mean.
‘Look where I can put this microphone, yall!’
why is exhibitionism such a huge thing now? why is miley an exhibitionist?
Well, so much for Vogue. It makes absolutely no sense that they were ever really going to put that little twerking twerp on their cover.
Where has everyone’s taste gone?!
Tell me about it. I cancelled my subscription five years ago.
Her parents seem to be loving this. Cha-ching! Are there any other Cyruses bringing home a paycheck?
not since Trace came up lame in the last Kentucky Derby.
OMG, I just made fun of someone’s looks. I never do that. It’s all Miley’s fault!
Oh, you are just EVIL! *wiping cranberry juice and snot off of monitor*.
Just one more indication of how badly Vogue has gone down the tubes since Anna Wintour became the editor. Why in the world would they even think of putting Miley Cyrus on their cover?
good.
Anna Wintour is the pinnacle of out-of-touch egotism. I cancelled my subscription to this magazine a few years back; the pretentiousness was just nauseating. Admittedly, I do enjoy the Testino photos and I will still buy the September issue, but Wintour has been clumsily trying to shift from the authority on fashion to the authority on pop culture and politics and it’s not working. You can’t turn Vogue into Vanity Fair. Just as she enjoys the ability to control what is and isn’t in style, she equally wants to control who is and isn’t a celebrity – hence her public snub of Kim Kardashian. And while I do applaud Wintour for discerning the difference between celebrity achieved via merit and celebrity achieved via unabashed famewhoring, the fact that she was willing to put Miley on the cover clearly shows her eye for fashion far exceeds her eye for talent (as evidenced by her constant hyping of NY socialites that don’t actually contribute anything of real value to the world beyond a reliable sales base for her high-end advertisers). Still, she was savvy enough to recignize in time that a Miley cover would have served only to cheapen her brand and cost her her upper east side subscribers.
I can’t believe people actually thought the blind item was about Naomi Campbell.
AS IF Anna would put a black woman on the cover of vogue. She has done it once in like the 80s or 90s, and no, “Scary Spice” doesn’t count, it was a shared cover.
Uh… she put Jennifer Hudson on the cover. So shush.
And I’m sure a few other black women have been on there too… and since I don’t really read Vogue (or care), I can’t think of any others off of the top of my head.
Plus Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Michelle Obama.
The trend for Hollywood actresses as cover girls in the early 00s is what killed off diverse cover models because there aren’t many non white Hollywood actresses that are deemed fashion stars too.
1988- 2002, Solo or Group, the following non white Models have been on the cover (and in editorials in the magazine)
Karen Alexander
Naomi Campbell
Michael Bercu
Yasmeen Ghauri
Beverly Peele
Nadege du Bospertus
Kiara Kabukuru
Scary Spice (a one off)
Iman
Marion Jones (a one off)
Oprah (first appearance in 1998)
2002-2005 all the covers bar 3 are Hollywood actresses. Halle Berry is the only non white solo cover during this time.
Then:
Liya Kebede (2005, 2009)(solo and Group)
Jennifer Hudson (2007)
LeBron James (2008) (group)
Michelle Obama (2009, 2013)
Beyonce (2009, 2013)
Halle Berry (2010) (her second cover)
Rihanna (2012)
Serena Williams (2012) (group)
What annoys is that all the non white faces used after 2002 are of people who are power houses. As if their super accomplishments are what renders them worthy of a cover and not necessarily their beauty.
It smacks of stunt coverage when compared to the range of talent/beauty of the other covers from 2002 until present.
“What annoys is that all the non white faces used after 2002 are of people who are power houses. As if their super accomplishments are what renders them worthy of a cover and not necessarily their beauty.”
This. So much.
YAY!
Brava, Ms. Wintour. And please let this be the tide’s turning to bringing elegance back to Vogue. Billy Ray’s precocious kid never should have been slated for a Vogue cover in the first place. However, have you seen Bono’s daughter (Eve)? Stunning AND classy.
It’s about time Vogue starts to lead the style fun again, and stop following played-out trends of giving space to over-exposed barely-talented celebrities.
I hope this is true, otherwise I am cancelling my subscription.
Understandable, her performance was very distasteful!
I have 2) questions…
(1) Is Chanel embarrased?
(2) What, for the love of …, is up with those nasty, used looking stuffed animals? Obviously, it is an attempt to look sexy, but all can see is pedo and bed wetting. Sorry.
Should Miley be on Vogue? Debatable. HOWEVER, Rihanna is on a Vogue cover like she is some kind of epitome of class between getting baked 24/7 and saying phuck this phuck that on every instagram caption?
Besides, Kim K was allowed to go the Met Gala, so why not keep Miley on the cover? Jesus.
I’m waiting for some fall-out over her new video “Wrecking Ball”. She rides/straddles a wrecking ball totally naked.
This girl has no idea who she is. Can you say identity crisis?
