Is Angelina Jolie the new face of Ralph Lauren?

Given Angelina Jolie’s wild-child roots, it’s interesting that one of the criticisms she is receiving lately is how bland her style is. She seems to rotate between outfits in solid black or white. Since much of what she’s been wearing is designed by Ralph Lauren, Life & Style Weekly speculates an endorsement deal between Angie and Ralph Lauren may be in the works.

On the Today show October 16, Angelina wore a belted white dress from Ralph Lauren’s spring 2009 collection. Since then, she’s been spotted wearing Lauren at least five times, including at the Kung Fu Panda DVD-release party on November 9 and at the premiere of Gran Torino on December 9.

Angie had an endorsement deal with St. John that ended last year amid rumors she was unhappy with the red-carpet choices they offered her.

Life & Style quotes an insider who says that while Angelina “finds Ralph’s new line classy and elegant,” there is no endorsement deal in the works.

“She’s not paying for the clothes she’s been wearing, and Ralph’s thrilled Angie’s wearing the designs,” says an insider close to the star. “But there’s no contract. Lots of top designers send Angie clothes. She wears what she wants to.”

A representative for Ralph Lauren wouldn’t comment on Angie’s professional relationship with the label. The rep did tell Life & Style that Angelina “really isn’t wearing much color at the moment. She’s been keeping to mostly black and white….She wore a gray sweater of ours [to the Gran Torino premiere], but that’s about it.”

Angie broke her Ralph Lauren trend by wearing a silver gown by designer Atelier Versace to the Golden Globes, and recently paid homage to the big-hair-and-shoulder-pads era of the 80s in a white suit at the Berlin premiere of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Angelina has said she plans to scale back on her acting commitments, so a new endorsement deal could be a way for her to stay busy, express herself creatively, make some cash and stay in the public eye. It’s doubtful she needs the money, but she may donate it to some of the many charities she’s involved with.

  1. Rose says:

Nope, but she and Brad just got Oscar nominations. Let the hatred unfurl!

  2. DD says:

Other than the Gran Torino outfit where her head looks too big for her body, she looks pretty hot in the other two outfits.
I now have a new appreciation for her bland outfits after that Berlin Benji Button premiere where she looked like a rich eccentric cougar.

  3. Baholicious says:

I can really do without those peter pan getaway pants in the header – with bone peep-toes? If she’s trying to tie in with the car there are better ways to go about it. She just looks really sloppy and needs to change her hippy hair to a style that covers her mondo forehead. Her hairline looks like it’s receding.

  4. vdantev says:

    Wow, too much forehead.

  5. elainebenes says:

So the clothes will still be hanging on a hanger??

  6. Kaiser says:

    lol at “rich eccentric cougar”

I think Angie & Ralph Lauren would be good synergy – much better than that label and Penelope Cruz.

  7. Debbi says:

@elainebenes: Haha! Feel the same way about those skinny b****es.

  8. Ash says:

SHe looks good in them… but I agree, she needs some color in her wardrobe.

  9. Faye says:

Well if she does happen to be the new face of Ralph lauren then they will prob lose alot of business..she is to controversial. Yes there are alot of people who like her, but just as many or more who don’t, and rightfully so. If Ralph Lauren is paying her they consider someone else, someone who might actually promote the Ralph Lauren line 100% sucessfully..

  10. Me2 says:

I have to agree with Faye. She was unsuccessful as the face for both St. John and Shiseido and was replaced by both in short order. She’s too much of an acquired taste and is inextricable from her “image”, making her a bad representation for anyone but HER direct target audience.

  11. Cheyenne says:

I have to disagree with Me2. Sales of Saint Johns Knits went double while Angie was photographed wearing their clothes. Since her contract terminated, you never see their advertisements anywhere any more.

  12. Looker says:

I don’t think she will do Lauren any good as a representative. Her “look” is out of the norm, i.e. huge , shiney forehead, wide square jaw, inflated lips, and just unkempt. She would however make a good poster girl for the movie 10,000BC

  13. Mairead says:

*is puzzled by the fact that since successful product-representatives have a look that is “the norm”, Madonna’s carcass was given the Louis Vuitton gig*

Carolyn Murphy for Estée Lauder is beautiful, but also has quite odd features, but she was kept on for years so I don’t think it made much of an effect. I just hope they give the woman some colour!

To be honest, I doubt it makes a blind bit of difference to the vast majority of the buying public – if they like it and they can afford it, they’ll get it. For example, until very recently neither I nor one or two of my friends could stand Tommy Hilfiger, but it still didn’t keep us out of his shops.

  14. Codzilla says:

She kind of looks like Michael Jackson in that fourth photo.

  15. NotBlonde says:

    Is she wearing harem pants?

  16. hmm says:

She is one of the most recognizable women in the world and that is publicity that is priceless. Endorsements are about more than who the minivan majority think is acceptable because if that were true then Jen Garner and Jen Aniston would endorse everything.

  17. paris herpes says:

She’ll be the new wax model for Ralph Lauren…why she so shiny? She looks so high in her pics these days.

  18. mich says:

ralph lauren’s model? more like mannequin with her waxy face.

couldn’t they have gotten someone else? she’s a controversial celebrity. the ralph lauren image doesn’t exactly jive with her personality, nor her age. and she looks older for her age too.

i think her last clothing line endorsed, st. john, was because of the shift of her movie roles to more of a matured woman who has many responsibilities yet never fails to look sophisticated. i wonder if her campaign pulled off, and more people bought the brand.
