You know what? I’ll admit it – I like Robert Pattinson with a beard. He’s so pretty when he’s clean-cut, but when his hair is shorter and he has a beard, he looks rather sexy and masculine. Of course, if he’s going to do the beard on a regular basis, I wish he would cut the stuff on his neck. But that’s a minor thing. Anyway, Rob covers the new issue of Sunday Style (an Aussie magazine) to promote his Dior contract. I know I’ve made fun of Dior’s terrible marketing and the way they teased Rob’s campaign, and while I stand by those criticisms, I have to give Rob some credit: I didn’t expect him to give a dozen interviews to prominent magazines all to promote Dior. That part of it is smart, because every new sparkly interview makes news and Dior gets all the credit. Here are some highlights from the interview:
The reluctant movie star: “I just didn’t expect any of this and I didn’t ask for it. It was literally all luck. I just stumbled from job to job.”
Lack of privacy: “It’s difficult to remain sane. It’s really difficult. In the beginning I didn’t even notice my life had changed so massively, because I was always working. I suppose eventually I got used to it.”
Sparkles in transition: “I’m in a vaguely transitional phase in my life. I’m trying to get out of being perceived as really young and I think doing [Dior] helps along those lines. I’m 27 now and I can feel people looking at me differently. It’s a weird year. With Twilight ending and other films I’ve done, like Cosmopolis, I suddenly feel like I’m being treated like an actual actor.”
Walking the red carpet: “I get a ton of anxiety, right up until the second I get out of the car to the event, when suddenly it completely dissipates. But up until that moment I’m a nut case. Body dysmorphia, overall tremendous anxiety. I suppose it’s because of these tremendous insecurities that I never found a way to become egotistical. I don’t have a sixpack and I hate going to the gym. I’ve been like that my whole life. I never want to take my shirt off. I’d prefer to get drunk.”
But nothing bothers him? He also says “there’s not very much that really bothers me. I don’t ever feel the need to forgive or expect people to be. I judge people on their actions. I don’t really care if it’s wrong or right, I give them the benefit of the doubt. If they do something I can’t be bothered to deal with, I just cut them out.”
The sparkly romancer: “I’m quite sensitive, and I do like a bit of grand gesturing, but that’s just my ego. I like to give people presents and I think of myself as the best gift giver, but only because I get stuff for myself and then make it work for the other person.”
Why Dior Homme? “I just got so smelly that I had to start wearing it,” he jokes.
[From Sunday Style via Gossip Cop]
We heard his six-pack ab lament last week too, but I believe him when he says he’d rather get drunk than work out. That will change, Sparkles. That will change. And soon. Right now he’s enjoying the last moments of his youthful metabolism, where he can still drink like a fish and not put on too much beer-weight. But that will change around the age of 30.
As for his gift-giving… I think that’s sweet! I’m kind of like that too – I find it hard to shop for people if I’m actively trying to find something for a specific person, but when I’m picking out stuff for myself, I’ll suddenly realize, “Hey, I bet Celebitchy would like this!” And then I forget and I just keep it for myself. HA!
Last thing: “I don’t really care if it’s wrong or right, I give them the benefit of the doubt. If they do something I can’t be bothered to deal with, I just cut them out.” And that, ladies and gentlemen, is probably the closest thing we’ll get to an explanation of why Rob dumped Kristen.

I hate the whole reluctant movie star thing. No one just stumbles into movies. If his only interest was in acting and not fame or money he would have been doing local theatre.
And not modelling for Dior.
Well, he has said several times he would have loved to have been famous before twitter and the Internet. He isn’t claiming to dislike the good stuff, he just hates the intrusion into his personal life. And those early Twi years when he was absolutely stalked would scar anybody imo.
And I don’t get this whole idea that you should just quit your job if there is something you don’t like about it… everyone has complaints about their profession, doesn’t matter what it is. So far the good outweighs the bad for him, but acknowledging that there is a downside is not so horrible.
But he is complaining about the attention while promoting a dior campaign. Acting doesn’t require him to be in beauty campaigns he is doing it for the money and the attention so why complain. The reality is he sought fame and is now cashing in on his fame. I don’t believe he doesn’t like being famous. His actions make it clear he does.
I think you disregarded my point entirely. He doesn’t hate being “famous” professionally, he hates that people pry into his private life and try to sell pieces of it. That’s the downside of fame for him. Doesn’t mean there is not a big upside.
I didn’t disregard your point I just don’t agree with it. In this day and age we all know the pitfalls of being famous. He sought fame anyway. Complaining that he got what he wanted is ridiculous. Yes most people have aspects of their job that they don’t like but it’s usually things that are unexpected like a incompetent boss.
He does whine a lot, but I think the heading is misleading (unless there are other statements in the interview that indicate otherwise) – to me, that snippet reads like that he’s saying that he stumbled into a career in acting and he got lucky in getting to where he is now.
Local theatre doesn’t pay – actors, even the ones who love the craft of it, need to eat. And being a movie star could mean wonderful roles and better acting opportunities. Doesn’t mean they have to enjoy the invasion of privacy (that must have gotten worse with the internet) that comes with a successful acting career. Just because you love acting for itself, doesn’t mean you should aspire to be a poor starving actor who only does productions no one watches. That’s misinformed and pretentious.
Actors who do local theatre usually also have a career outside of acting to prevent the whole starving thing. No he doesn’t have to like all the aspects of fame but he was well aware of them when he sought to become famous.
Oh please, he moved to Los angeles looking for fame. Actors who are not into fame and not overly ambitious doesn’t do that. England has a perfectly good acting community where most actors work in the theatre and tv and get the odd movie job. They are not gonna be famous just working actors. Sorry to say I used to like him but his constant whining and disingenuous act in interviews is starting to grate me.
There are many working actors who never become famous, New York and Hollywood are just teeming with them. Maybe that was his goal, to act and make enough to get by. My son is a working actor, he loves the craft. Not every actor is seeking to be famous. I always caution my son about it, it’s a concern of mine; i would not want him to become famous. I would be worried because ordinary people assume things about you and judge you. And weirdos either love or hate you and they don’t even know you. It’s the downside of acting for sure.
If working enough to get by but not become famous was his goal he shouldn’t have done a movie like Harry Potter. It was already a huge franchise when he joined so it’s not like he was surprised by the success of the movie or attention he received.
Siobhan- actors who are just starting out will take just about any role. You seem quite angry with old sparkles. 😉
Gorgeous. Man.
I thought he was cute as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter. I don’t find him so attractive as he’s gotten older.
I am getting MAJOR Chuck Bass vibes. These are great vibes!
Totally Chuck Bass.
….and as smarmy as Chuck Bass has always been there’s still something sexy/naughty about him that gives me shameful tingles.
I like his interviews. It’s funny that he’s beautiful in person but has Woody Allen-like issues.
I am so damn tired of this boy’s pretensions. If fame is such a burden…please quit. Also, if you decide to grace us with your presence, please try to acquire some new facial expressions, and take a few classes in humility…and acting! Finally, please spend some time with Emma Thompson.
I don’t want to inflict this pretentious douchecanoe on Emma Thompson.
If you don’t like him, don’t comment on him. The majority on here do like him and I hate for someone to have a nasty attitude and express it on someone they don’t like, so STFU.
+1
I’ll never understand the need to make multiple postings complaining about an actor/actress you don’t like. Generalized hate doesn’t really add anything to the discussion.
@Kaiser – my interpretation of his comments (i.e. “The sparkly romancer”) was pretty similar to yours.
But then I clicked on the link below and saw Lainey’s interpretation of the same sentences and it was like living in a parallel universe. Her take and attempt to use that justify is one of the lamest things I’ve read in a while.
Lainey’s personal dislike of Rob is so evident in her article, it is actually amusing.
I read that too, and all I could think was that she must be paid by KS’s team
I read that too, and all I could think was that she must be paid by KS’s team
I strongly suspect Lainey gets paid for many of her posts. I can’t prove it but she’s just so fawning with certain celebs that it feels like there’s a check involved. And if they don’t pay, they get treated like Pattinson.
Lainey’s colleague is a strong KS fan and supporter. What exactly are they a fan of? I don’t know. Lainey is dissing the Dior ad too 😆 Look at the contrast to what she wrote about KS’s teeny tiny Balenciaga ad.
Lainey has contorted herself into a bitter mess.
Lainey is always pro Kristen, though. No surprises there.
Sure, but that post reads like some far reaching justification written by an immature teenage stan, not a professional adult gossip writer with some favoritism.
I don’t think Lainey’s ever liked him
Sometimes I think that either he shot Lainey down or murdered her puppies. She hates him, although she’s never given a valid reason.
She also had a hard on for Nikki Reed, in addition to Stewart. I’d guess that when he apparently dumped Reed for Stewart way back when, Lainey blamed the whole thing on him. Interesting that she doesn’t seem to hold anything against Stewart. But then, she almost always makes excuses for the girl, and blames the guy.
@Another Ann – I agree – Lainey sounds like a woman scorned.
Or, you know, maybe she honestly can’t stand the guy? I also find his personality utterly intolerable and I don’t like his looks either. It has nothing to do with Kristen Stewart. I just think he’s a complete tool. If anything, I think less of Kristen Stewart for having dated this jackass, and it’s not like my opinion of her was exactly high in the first place.
It is not always about shipping.
Meh. Someone posted it before, but Lainey is basically the yang to this site’s ying when it comes to RP and KS. I disagree with what she wrote, but this website has written some equally reaching comments about KS. Lainey’s ripped KS too, about paps and other things. Anyway, I wish all blogs would move on from the KS and RP breakup because it is just old at this point.
Yes. THIS.
All these articles just to promote a product? The only other person who does this at this scale is Jennifer Aniston and atleast she has a stake in most of her products. This is famewhoring what he is doing.
🙄 He is not asking to do these interviews. This is actually work. Dior has spent millions on this campaign and it is his job to get the word out.
You obviously don’t know what famewhoring is. Look at Lindsay Lohan, Miley Cyrus and Kardashians etc. Geez.
I absolutely loved that perfum (i work at a perfum shop) and after a few years working with fragrances we start to visualise the scent with a certain style.. and FOR ME (capital letters cause its just my opinion.. dont want to be smashed by the sparkles fans) he is not the guy for that fragrance… he still has a boys look and that perfum is for a grown man… like Hugh Jackman or something…
I love fragrance and that would be my dream job.
Must be fun to match customers with the right product. What would you see Rob wear instead, just curious.
I see Pattinson as a “Le Male” or “Joop” kinda guy…
Isn’t that his point though, he is trying to get people to see him more as a man and not as that kid from Twilight.
Something more like Boss Orange or even if it had to be a fragrance by Dior I would choose Dior Homme Sport or Higher Energy… somethingmore fresh and relax.. not a scent that was made for a “sexy-executive -ceo – business-type” of a man…
He represents all the Dior Homme scents, Sport and Intense included.
I’m kinda surprised, Kaiser, that you didn’t comment on Rob’s interview the other day wherein he commented that he was into designing couture dresses. Every Dior interview he’s done has been riddled with some bit of nonsense. I like Rob, but I find I’m skipping over the interviews – he’s either so full of BS, or, if he’s telling the truth (OK, I believe he’d rather drink than work out), its just too precious for me. But do continue with the pretty pics. BTW, why are his eyes brown in the Dior ad?
You’re not the only one to note that omission, and in the article it wasn’t just a passing reference.
@ anname Yeah i know… just dont see him a Dior Homme kind of guy… perhaps when he is 40.. and been honest here I get from him the same vibe that I get from his ex… that he doesnt shower much.. BUT he definitely cleans up way better than her… back to the fragrances he can be a boss orange or a Lacoste scent or even Le Male but the Beau version… its more fresh..
I feel like those last 2 photos are for a dating website..
Likes: long walks on the beach, the color beige, licking armpits and beer..
Dislikes: working out, flashing and the nickname R-Patz, reminds me of armpits which you’d think I’d like but..
I think I might ‘wink’ at him…
ha, maybe the ‘wink’ will lead to a ‘poke’.. these are not my favorite photos of him
…add “Mini Coopers” to the dislike list.
how did I forget about that?!?
There is something off about his eyes. It makes him look R-word.
Yes. There brown in the pic. I believe his eyes are blue?
You’re right! Weird..you think they intentionally darkened them to look brown or it’s just the lighting?
I don’t think it matters – for whatever reason if Dior wanted his baby blues, they would not have signed off on this shot. It’s deliberate.
I just don’t find him attractive at all. He seems like a nice guy though.
Oh he does look stunning with beards. 😀
Can’t say he doesn’t give great interviews. He’s going to make it – can’t wait to see it. He gets away with being a hobo and repping Dior. You can’t ask for more than that.
I love when people say why are reporters bringing up Kristen – as if any reporter would ignore a break up that happened two weeks before the interview – and a year before the scandal. Yes, Kristen’s perfume promo didn’t include lots of Rob talk but her promo didn’t happen after the affair either. Things have changed – and the media will ask. Just like they asked her all thru OTR promo. Its the answers that are key not the questions.
If BCoop has a serial killer look to him, may I suggest this guy is the brother adopted out at birth but he’s grown up with the same tendencies. If they ever decided to redo Dexter, RP could step in. He’s got the same handsome in one photo, serial killer look in the other going on. His eyes in the last two seriously give me the creeps. They worked well for/as a vampire.
Balenciaga promo was after the affair.
He has two settings when mugging for the camera: derpy face or I’m-gonna-bury-your-body-in-the-woods face. Neither is appealing and his charm in interviews has gone down into negative value.
I like him. He just comes across as a really nice guy.
Agreed. I truly like him and enjoy his interviews. I wish him well.
I just didn’t expect any of this and I didn’t ask for it. It was literally all luck.
Oh my god shut up. You wanted to be a movie star. You auditioned for movies. You didn’t just randomly fall into them. And you are 27 years old, not 17, so stop pretending you’re a wide-eyed little innocent woobiepoo.
It’s difficult to remain sane.
Whiiinnnnne it’s so hard to be a rich white male celebrity, let me tell you. Can you imagine the kind of flack a woman — ANY woman — would have gotten for this?
I’m quite sensitive
Just. Shut. Up.
Exactly!
+Infinity!
I am so sick of him and any other actors complaining about how hard it is to be famous. Really? Get a 9 to 5 job and work day in and day out for years without a pay raise or a cost of living increase due to the federal government not getting their mess together to pass a dang budget. Ugh.
You could just stop reading his interviews and commenting… You sound a bit whiney yourself, js.
Becca – well said
I read somewhere that he did something to his teeth for his role in twilight. I can’t remember the details.
Hello my friend,
No, he mentioned in his interview to Good Morning America that he actually refused to wear clear braces for 2 years(that was recommended to him by Twi producers) and then, for whatever reasons, he said nothing could be done to repair his teeth anymore…That was an interview, when they worn almost identical leather hoodies with Kstew, and when he was so nervous that could not even sign autographs for his fans. His hands were shaking so much, that he only offered getting pictured.
I love his interviews too. Great, humble guy.
I used to adore his interviews way back in the very beginning of the Twilight insanity when he was in shock and had zero filter. Now it’s just a schtick. Too bad.
+1
Eh I don’t get the fascination with R.P. period.
I don’t find him a terrific actor and I really like my actors to look like men who would do some serious throw down on me.
Also every article lately has him saying the saying thing repeatedly regarding how much he hates being famous. He needs to take a seat.
It’s the fact that he’s complaining about fame while promoting a cologne, not even film, that makes me SMH. It’s not like he needs the money; I read in one of the trades that after cuts to managers, agents, etc. that the main Twilight trio raked in 75 million…and that’s after taxes. I get why JenLaw made a deal with Dior, because it’s basically required of women nowadays in the business, but it’s not common for men.
He needs the world to see him differently after all the Twilight stuff he made. I doubt he’s offered superhero roles or other solid parts in mainstream movies at this point. Association with Dior is going to benefit his image, and promoting fragrance means worldwide exposure. I see a thoughtful strategy behind it – making indies in attempt to gain critics acclaim and some cred as an actor while being the face of the major brand.
@Rita. I somewhat agree. Thing is he has been stereotyped as a romantic/seductive pretty boy because of his previous film choices (the 9/11 romance film, Water for Elephants, Bel Ami, Twilight). Doing a stereotypical romantic cologne commercial is in line with that.
He does need to diversify and get beyond Twilight, I agree with that, but I’m not sure a cologne advertisement was the way to go. Shilling cologne isn’t going to get him a lot of male fans, and it’s not like being associated with a fashion house is going to endear him to the indie crowd he desperately wants to belong to. As said above, with women getting in with the fashionistas helps with their “branding” but with men not so much. This soapy perfume commercial is continuing his image of a sparkly lover, and playing into his female and some of his gay male fanbase. If the commercial had been him driving a classic car, or playing a sport, or even swimming like that one cologne commercial, it may have come off differently imo
That is what gets me too. I am sick of him and every other actor/actress out there complaining about fame.
Dear Robert you are only famous for some very bad movies. The other ones, Bel Ami, Water for Elephants, Remember Me were just not done well at all.
He keeps up the bellyaching he is going to start to be seen by even his diehard fans as ungrateful.
Heck if he wants solitude move back to London. One thing that Lainey says that I agree with. If you are only about the art and the roles get the heck out of LA and quit going to Chateau Marmont every week and being out and about with C list celebrities. Go do some indies and build up your cred and stay as far away from romance movies as you can right now.
Also him doing a Dior ad. Come on. There is no way this is helping his brand which is to stop having people associate him as Edward Cullen. He made tons of money for it, just admit that sometimes we do things for money as actors.
I love Michael Caine since he flat out says (in reference to Jaws 4) I heard it was horrible, but the house that I live in because of it is fabulous.
It’s not common for men? Um, pretty much every guy in Hollywood endorses something, so…
He’s a whiny douchebag and a shitty actor.
Tell us how you really feel 🙂
I’m sick of Robert complaining and it shouldn’t be so shocking anymore. It’s been 5 years since the first Twilight. He should be used to it by now.
Hmmm, he strikes me as pretty harmless. However I think I may have an issue with his self diagnosis of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. I mean I don’t think that ‘I don’t have abs so that sucks’ is body dysmorphia. Meh, maybe I’m being overly sensative.
I just saw your post and you are not being overly sensitive, I think he has no idea what body dysmorphic disorder is. Not having six pack abs like everyone else is not BDD. Over-focusing on a perceived body flaw so badly that it impairs one’s life functioning, however, is.
He’s really whiny. Harmless, but whiny.
I don’t buy that he is an easygoing dude, I think he is aloof and very high maintenance in relationship. He actually sounds like he could be bothered by Everything…I liked him more when he sounded high as a kite at the beginning of Twi…
There are people with real serious problems. If you don’t want to be famous, then quit acting!
I think he looks gorgeous in the Dior ad. I also completely understand the strategy at play here. Contrary to what some believe, Rob appears to be a very intelligent and astute guy. I have every confidence he knows exactly what he needs to do, in order to have the type of career he wants.
Somehow one of the worst actors ever got a Dior ad and instead of appreciate it he whining, complaining, dissing pretty much everything and advertising himself instead of the product, mate please go away.
I bored with him. Enjoy your last years of Star status Rob. It won’t last long. Few your movies will go and disappear in limited release, some will go straight to DVD and then you’ll be like some Adrian Brody or Orlando Bloom. Do straight to DVD movies that no one will even write about or notice their existence. Paparazzi will stop following. And so will magazine interviews and invitations to big events.
yawn
Here’s the thing- if multiple odd mags/ sources are interviewing you, you have to engage the interviewer and say something. If he had commented about how all this was his artistic vision, answering his muse, etc- I would agree he was pretty far up his own behind. But he didn’t- if anything, he was very complimentary of the director and the still photographer. And if he did in fact have anything to do with them being selected, he does have good taste. The stills and video are great.
Please someone stop Rob, this is not attractive. With every interview, I like him less and less. He is growing out of his “boy” prettiness and becoming a man, time to start acting like one. Interviews like this will repel possible male fans.
