Angelina Jolie is very happy with her Oscar nomination, thank you very much. She released a statement, saying that it was an honor to be nominated for Best Actress for Changeling, and that she was also happy the Academy recognized Kung Fu Panda with a Best Animated Film nomination. The well-worn reaction to winning an Oscar is that ‘it’s an honor just to be nominated’.
But Angelina Jolie has upped the humble stakes by reacting to her nomination by saying it was an honor just to make the movie.
“Working with Clint Eastwood was a reward in itself that will last me a lifetime,” she told Extra after learning today that she’s up for Best Actress for her work in the Eastwood-directed drama The Changeling.
“To receive a nomination from the Academy on top of that is a privilege beyond any expectation,” she added coyly.
“It has been an exceptional year for acting, and I am honored to be in the company of these talented actors whose performances all deserve this recognition.”
The superstar also gave a nod to Kung Fu Panda, the comedy for which she voiced a character and which is in the running for Best Animated Picture.
“I am also happy that Kung Fu Panda was noticed by the Academy and proud to be a part of a film my entire family loves so much.”

Jolie really does seem pleased, and good for her. Angelina will also begin production on Salt very soon, and it was recently announced that Salt’s production will mainly take place on Long Island. Star magazine has details about the rental property the Jolie-Pitts could be moving to.

The Brangelina bunch are said to be moving into the fabulous Sassafras estate in the exclusive waterfront town of Lloyd Neck, in the toney “Gold Coast” area of Long Island’s North Shore. The estate boasts a 22,000-square-foot Tudor-style main house, a separate 11-bedroom staff house, a private dock and two helipads.
Maybe Angelina, a licensed pilot, will be flying her own chopper to the film set!

When I read the headline on this, I thought it was one of those knee jerk reactions that people get to an event, and I was thinking “What’s the big deal, every time I get an Oscar nomination I get the urge to move to Long Island too.” But I see she has reason to do so.
I think it’s cool that they take the kids and set up a household wherever they work. Those kids are going to be so educated by travel!

They have made their base in New Orleans, I mean, Farnce, London, New York, I mean Berlin, that is- LA, oh, wait- no, they changed their mind again and moving their accessories with them.
Accessories don’t need a school, teachers, friends and extra-curricular activities.
They are there- for display.
Routines and stability, naturaly come second to over ambitious mother who puts her career first and then awards and publicity and image second.

KB, I recommend that you watch Cribs or one of those programmes on celebrity homes, their needs pale into insignificance when compared with someone like Jerry Seinfeld and his Martha’s Vineyard pad. If you find their lifestyle to be wanton excess, then in the interests of fairness you must level the same charge at many others, INCLUDING the previous owners of the house.
If you click the link provided in a previous post, you’ll see that in 2006 this was one of a number of similar properties in this area that were for sale. That means that there were a number of other families and/or investors who owned, bought and sold similar families.
Surely it wouldn’t kill them to live in half the space either -but considering many commentators on this site kept accusing Obama of being a “socialist” (yeah right), during the election, I doubt that you’re going to get much sympathy for any idea of a more equitable division of land or wealth. (except in the sole case of the Jolie-Pitts of course)

Why should they have to live ion half the space? To please you? They have 6 kids so they will at least use 6 or 7 of the bedrooms. They have a nanny? well there is 8 bedrooms. But I am sure they have to account to the have nots? There are lots of people I wish would go to France and stay there but not this family, they hone school, and educate their children pretty good, they dont just get up and shovel them off to the school for the teachers to babysit . They are probably getting a better education then our kids.

As far as the kids, they are still young and Maddox is being home schooled, so there is probably a teacher on staff. Zahara just turned 4 so she will probably begin school scon, as may Pax.
As a child it would have been so great to travel the world and get first hand knowledge how other countries differ from your own. Some people can complain because they’ve never been outside the US, it’s just jealousy but it’s all good. The Jolie-Pitt children are so blessed.

To hear it preached here, they are the greatest actors to hit the screen (they aren’t); the most beautiful couple in the history of Hollywood (they aren’t that either); they are the world’s most perfect, beatific, socially conscious and cool parents ever (hardly) and so on and so forth.

why focusing on what she’s said? there are also other three women that got a nomination… Ok, this is a gossip site and maybe there’s no interest in art and cinema, but it sounds ridiculous all the attention this woman gets evrery time she farts.

Can you imagine the number of comments that would have been on this board had Angelina or Brad not gotten a nomination? All of the haters have been saying for weeks that neither one would be nominated and how their peers hate them blah, blah, blah and how karma was a you know what. Methinks that those people will be hiding under rocks for awhile only to re-emerge the day after the Oscars to talk about what losers they are and how terrible they looked on the red carpet.

11 bedrooms just for the STAFF, two helipads, a private dock – I know those two can afford it and I wouldn’t begrudge them a single solid-gold watertap if they wouldn’t always present themselves as humble and down-to earth do-gooders.
But it seems they want all the luxury money can buy – and then some!
And when will Angelina stop claiming she’s going to retire from acting for the kids?
I understand that she doesn’t want to give up acting, it’s her vocation, she probably needs to do it to be happy, but she should stop pretending and then contradicting herself by her actions.
Btw. other actresses (even Oscar-winning ones) seem to manage to arrange their working schedules so that their children don’t have to move every couple of months…

Ned IS hating because he cannot see that she has more resources than most. Like any mother, she uses her resources wisely, which also includes home school. Her kids are with her all the time, except when she is filming. Her kids have an extreme advantage and NED knows it– her kids are going to be much more socially advanced than most kids, and even some adults- Ned included.
Her kids have already and will continue to learn life social skills that cannot be taught from any history book. When it comes to multicultural diversity and being at ease with persons from various ethnic backgrounds, they will have a leg up. Instead of hating, you could learn how to VALUE the differences in choices people make and why they do it.
We now have a new President in the White House that is highly esteemed and respected all over the world. From the time he was born until the age of ten, he travelled and lived all over the world with his mother (Hawaii, Indochina, just to name a few). His multicultural background and upbringing shaped who he is today. Does he seem unstable to you? Do you think Obama’s childhood was a blessing/advantage or a curse for him?
Aspen we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Why is it the mother who is getting it in the neck? Does the father not have an equal responsibility towards the family? Or should we just assume that a man is nothing more than a mere sperm donor and bank-balance? I was full sure that many children suffer from periods of absence from their father as well as their mother.
If Ned and others had said that about both of the parents, then I wouldn’t have as much as a problem with it (I’m hoping I’d find it distasteful no matter what family was being talked about).
I have said on more than one occasion that I don’t have children – but I do have some involvement with children and you can be sure that I’m about as strict with behaviour as they come. However I do recognise that family-dynamics are as different as people themselves. Of course I recognise that stability of place and routine, as well as constant access to at least one (effective) parent is most likely to produce well-balanced adults. But it’s not a guarantee – statistics is a numbers game, but the only number we can be certain is that 100% of us are going to die at some point.
I find the assertions that the children will definitely be one way or t’other when they’re older. Maybe they’ll be feckless rogues, maybe they’ll be bleeding heart liberals, or maybe they’ll be conservatives, or more likely a mix of all three, we won’t have any way of knowing until later, just as we won’t have a clue how our children turn out untl they’re fully developed.
We’re all a product of nature and nuture. Personally, I believe that your individual nature will influence how you respond to nurture. As a child I would often be dragged off to another country to stay with grandparents at a moments notice, from the time I was a toddler. And although I had both parents around constantly, they weren’t very engaged as parents. Even when I was a kid, I felt I’d be better off having a short amount of time with them. The product of that is that I don’t have a great sense of “home”, whereever I lay my hat, type thing, which other people just don’t understand (e.g. people ask me if I’m going home, to where I was raised, for the weekend. I confirm I’m going to visit my parents.
But the upshot of it is, I’ve never suffered from homesickness; going to a university where i knew nobody was brilliant rather than terrifying, I’ve always been able to adjust to any new place I’ve lived or the temporary work situation I’ve had for some years really well. Life is what you make it.

Angelina’s got the resources to give those poor children the best education in the world in the best schools, with wonderful extra-curricular activities.
Guess what? she doesn’t.
These kids are being moved on a weekly basis at best. Sometimes every 2-3 days.
They can’t even have a routine of home schooling, since they keep moving them all the time.
They prolly live on their suitcases.
They can’t even have a class with other children (not to mention to develop deeper social relationships) because they don’t get to stay in one place, and never got to have any sense of stability.
I can’t imagine going through childhood without friends, classes, school and developing in a stable manner.
I was never dragged from one place to another, and I see no reason such a wealthy women would be so selfish to do this to such little children and prevent them from having a childhood.
Okay, as Emily said it’s ON Long Island. No one says “in Long Island” around here. And I think she should have gone for the South Shore – it’s where all the cool people are. 🙂
Ned, I really don’t think that she is “robbing her children of a childhood” or whatever. That’s like saying that parents who uproot their children frequently because they are serving their country are selfish. Those children are probably very well socialized, being that having a ton of siblings from different backgrounds means having to learn to get along. In fact, they’re probably better-adjusted than most only children in this country (no offense to only children).
Miranda, true, the South Shore people are pretty laid back compared to the North Shore but I can’t believe AJ will be moving to my town!
The property taxes (just due a few weeks ago) are outrageous here.
I believe this home to have been on the market for about 2.5 years, originally through Sotheby’s. No takers in this economy.
I have to say that Huntington Village, the town 1 mile south is beautiful in the spring time. Flower arrangements on every light post and just so charming but I always think, ‘Hey, I’m paying for all of this grandeur.’ Still, it is like a mini SoHo (NYC) in so many ways. I’m really proud to be from this town.
I have one word for Brangelina: OVERRATED. Meh.
Miranda, just got back from your South Shore and it is a dump. Just ugly and flat. Only the Ocean is nice. That’s all you have. Why would Angie got to the South Shore over the North Shore? Why would anyone?
I live in Lloyd Neck and I love it here. My parents also traveled a lot when I was younger (About when i was 3 to 9). And there’s nothing wrong with it. I’m 15 and I’m very happy with my life. I was home schooled for a little (Hated it) and i attended many schools with many different things to offer. As a little kid, its not hard moving, at least it wasn’t for me and my 3 brothers and one sister. But my parents agreed to settle down when we got older (middle school/high school) This way we didn’t have to constantly change schools with collage so close.
Traveling is amazing.
