I wasn’t much of an athlete in my youth (big surprise, I know), but I did do two activities that I absolutely loved: gymnastics and volleyball. Gymnastics took a backseat when puberty hit (I got large breasts very early), but I played volleyball into my teens. I still love it. I love watching it, and I kind of wish there were, like, pick-up volleyball games for adult women, because I would totally do that. Are there pick-up games for women these days? Not in my town.
Anyway, I was just reminded of my volleyball love when I was looking through these new Duchess Kate photos and videos. Today, Kate did her first solo event since becoming a mom. She did a photo-op on behalf of SportsAid – she’s been patroness of the charity since April, and this is her first ever photo-op/event on behalf of the charity. For the event, Kate dusted off an ensemble made of separates that we’ve seen before: her beloved skinny jeans, those g—damn wedges (BURN THEM) that she’s been wearing for three years, a striped top and that Ralph Lauren blazer.
The event featured athletes who competed for Team GB in last year’s Olympics and Paralympics, and the group had a coaching session with young athletes for volleyball, badminton and wheelchair basketball. This is Kate’s second public event since giving birth. Here’s video of Kate playing volleyball – the players kept setting her up for a good spike, and if she hadn’t been wearing those terrible wedges, she could have spiked it with ease.

Who shows up to a sports type event wearing wedges? Duchess Kate. Guess no one at the firm was brave enough to tell her ditch the wedges, wear some designer tennis shoes for this event.
i love wedges, i can do anything in them. i dont own sneakers, i just hate the way they look. i consider her wedges casual enough for this event.
That’s what I was thinking. If she knew she was going to play, why not wear some nice tennis shoes? And God those wedges are ugly. I like wedges, but I have the nice ones that look more like sandals, not penny loafers.
I don’t think she has awful taste in shoes, but she her styling leaves something to be desired. What I’ve noticed is that the sisters are opposites fashion wise. Pippa has a great casual, street style, unlike Kate. However, Kate has a great formal style for weddings and galas, while Pippa sorely needs help in this area.

I believe the “cork” bottom makes them wedges. Espadrilles in particular have the raffia(?) fabric on the heel.
I also can do anything in my wedges. I wore one pair for 3 years practically straight- in deep snow daily to school, on the field during mapping courses and water/field courses for geology, walking, bicycling, rock climbing in the woods, you name it. Its not as odd as you think to wear them all the time.
She didn’t sample all the sports at the event because of her wedges. Those are higher than her regular one. She could have worn some cute designer tennis shoes to compliment her clothes for the event. I see other celebrities doing that. I think she just wanted to show off her weight loss and slim legs. So style over function which is typical Waity.

I think she looked really relaxed and happy. I don’t care if she wears wedges — she was obviously comfortable enough in them to spend some time playing, so what does it matter?

When Diana died, the boys were asked to take a keepsake from her before she was buried.
Harry chose the ring, William chose her wristwatch – the watch was equally sentimental to Diana as it was her father’s wristwatch which was HER keepsake from him.
How the ring ended up on Kate’s finger is a mystery that shall remain between Harry and William.

I shuddered the first time it was unveiled on Kate’s hand, and i feel the same way years later.

Wedges are very versatile and can look really well – I love them myself – and they would be PERFECT for this occasion (unlike actual sneakers).

Because she appears to be engaging and appropriate. Not really forcing anything. This is good. If we see this twice a month and not just to preempt a vacation her image would greatly improve.
And people need to get over KK and KM. They are so much the same and opposites at the same time. Besides frames the only main difference is one family has better PR. Other than that they’re of the same cloth.
HH: Nothing about Kim is *real* in the pictures you posted. She had already started to mess with her face and her body (breast implants, liposuction and butt enhancement). So she might have looked better than she does today but this isn’t the original Kim.
Why would she wear those wedges to a gym? She looks so out of place. Some comfortable canvas shoes or runners would be more apporiate, at least for the physical activities.

Well this is really quite laughable. Those wedges are really high, she wore them to the Olympics with her sprayed on jeans and they looked ridiculous then and they look that way now. This is one of the funniest outfits she’s worn to date. I cannot believe they let her out on the court with those things on.

Oh how I wish I could love wedges but they look good on only a slim minority of us. Kate should wear them with dark rinse bootcut jeans with some stretch for a smooth fit and a low rise to elongate her torso and create a waistline.

Well, this event wasn’t open to the public, so I don’t know why you’d fault her for that. Her whole job is to draw attention — via press coverage — to organizations like this. If a bunch of photographers showed up to take pictures of her, that’s sort of the point.

Kate apparently missed the memo regarding how a member of the RF should present themselves at official functions. While skinny jeans are great for casual wear OFF DUTY, they are no way acceptable for appearances as a royal – especially styled the way she does it. If she wore those jeans with a longer jacket/coat and with some low heeled boots they might work for a situation like this. The world does not need to see her toned butt, abdomen and thighs. Cover it up, please!

She has good genes too, and while she was pregs she exercised and didn’t gain too much weight. My pregnancy weight fell off in less than two months with zero help from me. I’m just saying, it’s not necessarily only because she’s rich, and I personally don’t think she should be criticized for having already lost the weight, just as other people shouldn’t be criticized for needing two years to lose the weight.

I don’t want to nit pick but she barely does any engagements and wear completely inappropriate attire given the event in hand. Both William and Harry wore appropriate clothes to their engagement where they were expected to participate in various sports.

Umm, I have to agree with (practically) all the other commenters: this outfit is beyond tacky and is inappropriate for the event she was attending. Ill-fitting blazer which emphasized her scrawny arms and shrinking upper torso, wedges (yikes!!) and the spray painted pants. This woman needs a stylist and some common sense pronto!
Darn those Brits, they have classy Kate frolicking on the field, here in the US. we get large butt Kim and her stretch marks. And she has the nerve to think that qualifies her for the Hollywood walk of Fame, not fair, just not fair.
While wedge shoes are not for sport events (then why are those celebs so dressed up at the finals of Wimbledon/US open or basketball courts??), after watching the video I would say it’s because she hadn’t played volleyball before. I’m not a sporty person, and I can say I would hit the ball waaayyy worse with my tennis/running shoes than the Duchess in her wedge shoes!

Kate refused to participate in a badminton game at this same event. She was supposed to join a game, but declined when she arrived.
This event was announced several weeks ago. She must have known that her participation may be required. Wedges are great if you’re not moving/running around that much. But as per her declining the invitation to play badminton, it was probably because her shoes were not appropriate for playing sports that would require her to run around.
How difficult is it to be game for anything? To wear the appropriate attire? To play around for a short while, to kibbitz, and then be gone back to the chef, butler and Pratesi sheets. You know? Make it fun, serve a purpose? She is either dense or willfully ignorant. And it’s so obvious that her twin, William, supports her in this. Feh. It’s always, ALWAYS, about her.
Maven – as I mentioned in my original comment a few posts above, she’s very skinny again. For her, it’s all about showing off all the weight loss and the ‘hot’ body 3 months after giving birth.
The media and the sycophants are drooling over her physical appearance, so she makes sure it always gets talked about. That’s all she has: her looks. Nothing else going for her. Even the papers had nothing to say about her at this event except comment on her flat stomach and thin body.
It’s all about her desired results: Comments like “Wow! Kate can play volleyball even in wedges! So cool and stylish!” and “Kate has a nice ass. I’m jealous of her body!” from the DoLittle-loonies.
You wouldn’t see those positive comments had she played badminton in those wedges. Her excuse for not playing was that she tried it but wasn’t good at it so she didn’t want to do it again/not gonna try anymore. She’d most likely get criticized for putting herself in danger of a sprained foot, running around while wearing stilts because she didn’t want to be sensible and practical and wear something flat or with a lower heel.

I actually love those Russell & Bromley wedges, and the Smythe blazer (she wore that when she flew to Canada). I don’t care much for the jeans, she’s worn them so many times, you can tell they look faded. Catherine also needs a haircut, or a new hairstyle. She certainly looks different post pregnancy.
I don’t really care about the wedges so much as her hair in these pictures. I never really gave much thought to the conspiracy theories that she wore a weave/extensions because it always looked natural to me. But on the blog What Kate Wore they had some before pictures from the London Olympics and after pictures featuring this volleyball outing because Kate wore these exact same pieces to these events. In the London Olympics pictures, her hair is a lot shorter and looks very natural. But her hair here is so much longer and thicker and is just kind of hanging there. I’m not sure if it’s natural or not, but it almost looks too long here. Does anyone feel there is a point where your hair gets too long to style and manage?
I’ve seen photos from one of the royal gossip blogs where you can see “stitches” where the hair is sewn in. Those pics were pre-pregnancy, so I’m not sure if she’s wearing them now or not. But she has worn them, definitely. If you were to look at her photos chronologically, you’ll see that her hair “grew” impossibly longer between a couple of appearances. Also, there’s no miracle blowout or pregnancy hormones that give you double the hair in your 30s compared to what you had in your 20s and teen years. It’s physically impossible without “help” of some sort.

Too bad she’s starting to get super thin again. She looked great during pregnancy and right after giving birth. She’s going back to her wedding day weight.
Looks like her pants don’t like the wedges either, they are trying their best to distance themselves!
She wore wedges so she would look skinnier on camera and in person. Height slims, period, that’s why she wore them. If she wore sneakers the press would have started saying she gained weight, because she did. She’s very aware of her physical appearance and it’s the only reason she wore them, trust me.
