The lower-grade tabloids (In Touch, The Enquirer, Star) love to talk about all of the drama in Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes’ relationship, but it’s rare that Us Weekly or People Magazine have much to say about it. The tabloids have been claiming for months that there’s trouble in Hey Girl paradise, and I think the legit outlets didn’t know what to say because Ryan has been largely MIA from everything for the better part of a year, year and a half. He directed his first movie (How to Catch a Monster) and I guess he’s still in post-production or something. He’s also been in Iceland, I believe, and Eva has been to visit him a few times. But now Us Weekly is saying that something has changed between them:
Back on the market soon? They went public at the Happiest Place on Earth, but after two years as a couple, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are in a decidedly unhappy place, sources tell Us Weekly.
One insider reveals that the duo broke up briefly six months ago and adds that the relationship has remained rocky ever since. “He can be moody, and she’s insecure,” explains a source close to Gosling, 32. “She sees a text from a mystery number and assumes he’s talking to other girls.”
Pals have noticed a shift in the actress, 39, who in July gushed to them about visiting her man in Iceland, where he was working on How to Catch a Monster. Now, “she shuts down anyone who brings up Ryan,” says a friend. “It’s clear something is wrong.”
Though a rep for Mendes denies any trouble, the Gosling source believes the end is near: “I wouldn’t be surprised if they split for good soon.”
Quite honestly, as much as all the little Hey Girls like to dream that Ryan is the most perfect boyfriend ever, I bet he’s actually a difficult man to get close to. He just seems like he’s really closed off, and maybe he could be sort of controlling or judgmental. Maybe I’m projecting, but it’s just a vibe I get. Now, that being said, I bet Eva isn’t the best relationship person either, although I do think she’s worked extra hard to keep this relationship afloat. I do see it that way – that she’s the one making all of the concessions just so they can stay together. So, will it last? Eh. Who knows? The only thought I have is that it will be really awkward if they break up before How to Catch a Monster comes out.

What about them doesn’t fit? I hear this from many baby goose fans. They have this fantasy of Gosling as the nicest most perfect guy ever and Eva as the witch if the west who used her evil ways to capture him.
It just surprised me that they lasted this long. Funny how he managed to make everybody believe he’s such a nice guy and then he was quite a long time with Eva Mendes, the biggest bitch around. I don’t care about either of them at this point, just about her poor dog.

She’s always been possessive of him. She stayed with him the entire time in Thailand, and pretty much never let him out of her sight since then. Whenever break up rumours start, she seems to stage a pap photo op with his dog very quickly.

Also she doesn’t have a big part in How to catch a monster, she probably doesn’t have to do promotion for that.
I don’t know, they always lacked chemistry in their pictures, but we’ll see, I didn’t expect them to last that long, maybe they’ll find a way to make it work.

I think she’s really gorgeous, but she always comes off as overly serious and dull in interviews… like she has no sense of humor or something… I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I feel like he’s a bit the same way. They probably would both be better suited with more affable partners.

I heard this story about how this girl and her friend went up to her at a party (the friend was Cuban too), and the friend was an aspiring actress and told Eva that she was happy to see her representing her in film, and that she hopes to have a career like hers one day, and Eva was all “what am I supposed to say to that” and just walked off.
For someone who can’t act (and Lord, I saw ‘The Women’, she couldn’t even act sexy to save her life), she sure has a massive ego. You can’t be an untalented diva. It doesn’t work that way.

He’s a good actor, but I’ve never understood the hype. Not a big fan of his look (super long jaw as visible in the first pic, and the ‘Paris peeper’ eyes as George put it above – though his alleged nose job is one of the best I’ve ever seen), but his nasal voice is what really kills his appeal for me. Someone recommended I watch ‘Crazy Stupid Love’, but that didn’t do it for me, either (bad NY accent and kind of flabby bod for a ‘hunk’, if you ask me.)

Like she has always been very pretty and never really had to have a personality and now that she is approaching 40 and no longer the ingénue it’s getting harder to hide. That’s my take away because she says these odd things that I think are suppose to lend to her mystique, but she just comes off douchey and immature. For me the end of the line was before Ryan when she did that interview about dying to play Maria Callas. I believe she had just come off a good movie and was looking for her next project and the whole interview was basically a plug about how she was right for the role, even though she doesn’t sing. It was weird and her talk about preparing and getting into character was uh very Jessica Biel. In some ways I do sort of feel bad for these IT girls, there is a very small window to prove themselves and if they don’t they are limited to their personal lives to keep them relevant.

I like him, he’s always made interesting choices with his movies. The super-Methodness could get annoying, but it’s not lie he’s responsible for all the Hey Girl stuff. But 2 years with Eva Mendes… She’s crazy. Not nice. His choice of companion doesn’t speak well of him (side note: I feel the same way about Penelope Cruz, because Javier is apparently an epic a-hole).

Lainey had a blind item about them trying for a baby a year ago, but obviously she didn’t pull it off. He may have lost interest after. I feel for her, even though she seems kind of mean in interviews.

From my perspective, Gosling is an excellent actor and I like how he mixes it up in terms of roles. I’m not into violence, so I always skip those. (Although I did see Blue Valentine and thought it was good.) For me, his talent makes him attractive. And I do find him physically attractive. Yum!!
Mendez I know nearly nothing about, but I did see that movie they were both in — compared to the actors around her, I didn’t feel like she fully inhabited her space. Which makes her less interesting to me.
As to personalities, who’s to know? I’m assuming many of you have met well-known people in your lives — a perceived public persona can often be so far from the truth. In any case, Gosling strikes me as private, intelligent, good sense of humor… And I respect any actor who does not need his or her personal business all up in my face!

I work in entertainment. A few friends have worked with both of them. The descriptions of her range anywhere from standoffish to bitch. And they all say he’s incredibly nice and low key. Maybe she’s very nice in private? Or maybe he’s a total dick in private? I don’t know.

I know nothing about her except a couple of movies & tv interviews where she’s shown some personality. She’s pretty in a very exotic way. He seems very method-y/withdrawn but I roared when he was interviewed on tv when said he put on 60 lbs for a role by consuming nothing but melted HagenDaz.
I was disappointed that he violated the “no dogs in the yoga studio” rule a couple of times & his dog peed on the floor during class. Rude to everyone else & made him seem overly-entitled.

We chatted for hours. Super chill guy. Really friendly. I didn’t realize who it was at the time and he was extremely humble and a great conversationalist. So I can vouch for him. Unexpected match with Eva, but whatevs.
That’s amazing. I’ve never managed to chat with anyone at any party for HOURS, never mind a party in the LA party scene. I always seem to get pulled away, need say to hi to friends or make contacts, get sidetracked into other conversations on the way to the restroom or to get food/drink, etc. Yet, you managed to do so for hours with a Hollywood A-list actor.
