Alec Baldwin’s alleged stalker, a 41 year-old French Canadian actress named Genevieve Sabourin, is currently on trial in New York. She’s due to take the stand today, and I’m interested to hear more of her side of the story. Sabourin claims that she had a romantic, sexual relationship with Baldwin in 2010 that overlapped his relationship with his current wife, Hilaria. Baldwin maintains that he only met with Sabourin once to give her career advice and help out his friend, a producer with whom Sabourin was having an affair. Following their platonic meeting, Baldwin claims that Sabourin started stalking him and bombarding him with email and texts. He said this under oath on the stand yesterday and cried while testifying about how Sabourin had ruined his proposal to his now-wife by showing up unannounced. Sabourin’s lawyer claims that his client only “sought closure for a crumbling romantic relationship.”
The trial sounds like it quickly turned into a circus as Sabourin started heckling Baldwin during his testimony, yelling that he was lying and interrupting him several times. This made him into a somewhat sympathetic character while bolstering his claims that he had nothing to do with this woman. If she was so out of whack that she was having outbursts in court, she could probably invent a whole relationship in her head. Sometimes unbalanced people just attach themselves to celebrities.
Yesterday I was leaning toward believing Baldwin’s side of the story. He was going through all the trouble of taking this woman to court, and why would he do that unless he was telling the truth? Then The NY Daily News got a statement from the producer who Baldwin claims introduced him to Sabourin. Scarface producer Martin Bregman says that he’s 87 years old, that he personally (Bregman) never had an affair with Sabourin, and that Baldwin made up the stalking claims to cover up his own affair! Now Alec Baldwin has a reason to cry.
The actor’s claim that he never had sex with the French-Canadian actress accused of stalking him was called a lie Tuesday by his supposed friend, “Scarface” producer Martin Bregman.
“He’s lying,” Bregman told the Daily News after the first day of Genevieve Sabourin’s sensational trial wrapped. “He was screwing two women. One of them is his present wife and the other one, I presume, he was doing the girl in question.”
Bregman was referring to Baldwin’s wife, Hilaria, and the alleged stalker.
“To sidestep any involvement with (Sabourin), he made up a report,” said Bregman, who called the move “pretty stupid.”
Baldwin, who got teary-eyed on the stand as he denied seducing Sabourin, insisted she had been Bregman’s longtime mistress. He testified that Bregman introduced her to him in 2002 at a lunch in Montreal.’
Bregman laughed at the notion of “having an affair with a woman that’s considerably younger” and said they noshed with another woman.
“I’m 87 years old and that’s very flattering, but that’s all it is,” he told The News.
Bregman’s takedown of Baldwin came after Sabourin turned day one of her trial into a circus by heckling the actor while he testified — and going after Hilaria as well.
More histrionics could be coming from the 41-year-old actress when she takes the stand Wednesday in Manhattan Criminal Court.
Sabourin is charged with 23 counts of harassment and one count of of stalking. She says Baldwin was her lover and even cheated on Hilaria with her.
Prosecutors contend Sabourin waged a months-long harassment campaign against the “30 Rock” star and bombarded him with 100 creepy emails and texts begging him to marry her and “conceive a mini Baldwin.”
“She never had the intent to harass, annoy, alarm, stalk, or cause any inconvenience to Mr. and Mrs. Baldwin,” her lawyer, Todd Spodek, countered. “She merely sought closure for a crumbling romantic relationship…”
Baldwin testified the “nightmare” began after he met Sabourin for dinner in Manhattan three years ago to give her some “career advice.”
“It was merely a favor to the man she was the mistress of,” he said. “She was Marty’s girlfriend.”
“No! No!” she blurted out as Baldwin described how she flooded his inbox with voicemails that ranged from tearful begging and drunken badgering to steamy sexual come-ons.
“Are you crazy?!” Sabourin shouted when Baldwin testified that the harassing calls numbered in the hundreds.
The NY Daily News goes on to report that when Baldwin was asserting that he didn’t have a romantic relationship with Sabourin, she yelled out “you have a scar!” and pointed to her hip. So if she has the goods on him she’ll bring them out when she’s scheduled to testify. I’m surprised she wasn’t charged with contempt of court. Sabourin also back-talked Hilaria Baldwin when she took the stand.
Let’s assume, just for the sake of argument, that this woman is telling the truth and that she did sleep with Baldwin in 2010. If that’s the case, then she should have backed off when she realized he was no longer interested. Yes Baldwin should have broken it off with her officially, but if she continued to follow him and bombard him with messages then that constitutes stalking at some point. Under this scenario, Baldwin just perjured himself. So no one is blameless here. As I mentioned, I was about to believe him until his friend said that he was lying. It’s always possible though that the producer is trying to save his own hide by denying a relationship with this woman.
Here’s Sabourin talking to reporters outside of court. She seems very sure of herself and smug. She claims that she was told that she could interrupt in court because French is her first language and she needed a translator. Yeah, right. TMZ also has video of Alec Baldwin leaving court. He tells paparazzi “I hope you choke to death.”

But – does Baldwin’s douchebaggery excuse this woman for being a batshit crazy stalker? A couple of my friends were like this woman. They didn’t go to the lengths this woman has gone to, but almost (driving by residences, jobs, confronting them in parking lots and restaurants, etc). The guys never promised anything other than getting together a few times, but to these girls a few rolls in the hay meant everlasting love and commitment. Crazy.
Bet Baldwin will be a lot more careful in the future, though.

Is Marty Bregman married or in a relationship (or was he back in 2002)? That would give him reason to lie to avoid admitting to an affair.
Also, I dont’ think Alec made up her stalking story. Her emails are quite disturbing. She accuses Alex’s wife of putting non-recyclables in her recycling bin to screw up the process. The stalker is mentally ill.

Yeah. I’m pretty sure he slept with her. I find the timeline more telling than anything. He meets a random woman in 2002 and then 8 years later they go to dinner and he offers to get her a hotel room? Um… is that standard?
I mean, I’ve met a lot of people and had dinner with many and have never, ever had anyone offer to pay for a hotel room for me. And if they had, I would think the intention behind it would have been clear.
I don’t really care, and if she indeed began stalking him after that point, his case would still be valid regardless of whether they were intimate or not. I don’t know why he would lie, really, but I think he is.
The timeline makes sense if she really just is his friend’s longterm mistress. It also makes sense that the friend would lie and implicate Baldwin if he’s trying to cover up his own affair.
And who knows about the hotel thing . He’s a very successful actor, so maybe she complained about needing a place to stay, and he offered a hotel room instead of bringing her into his home.
This just seems like an extreme case of “He’s just not that into you.”

I don’t disagree, if that is proven. I still think he had a thing with her, and that he has a personality disorder of his own, which keeps him from being completely honest. It doesn’t mean she shouldn’t be convicted. But everything sh-tty that Baldwin has ever done, he denies, or he resorts to making others look crazy. He lashes out. It’s a pattern. So as much as she likely should be put away, I’m not buying the innocent tears in terms of the history. He doesn’t have to lie in court. That is still abhorrent in its own way. If a person is mentally ill to this degree, they do not need a relationship or a sexual encounter to behave like this. There is no reason to think Alex had a fling with her. It is very common for stalkers with mental illness to claim they had sex or a relationship with the object of their fixation.

Heckling Baldwin doesn’t necessarily invalidate her story (that they had an affair).
Sure, it shows signs of an unbalanced person, but seeing him blatantly lying (if they did have an affair, that is) could have made her get really pissed off.

This is what I was thinking. Maybe she is unbalanced and couldn’t control her responses, or maybe she just got really, really angry and frustrated when she heard Alec lying about her. If that kind of thing happened to me, I would pretty much feel like getting up and strangling him. Being called a liar in public and having people say that you are a mentally unstable stalker… Well… That would be enough to make me yell out in court! Strangely enough, I have been in the situation if being called a liar in a legal case (an asylum claim that I was involved with). It was absolutely horrible, because I wasn’t lying. I felt powerless and incredibly angry.

I was thinking the same thing, I’m sure a scar is easy to google (I did try but the first few pages that come up are obviously this story and I don’t have that much time on my hands to rake through the rest!) I’m not really sure that information is conclusive proof of an affair.
So Sabourin says she had a sexual relationship with Baldwin and was in a love triangle with him and his wife – Baldwin says her never slept with her but she was Bregman’s mistress – Bergman says he never slept with her but Baldwin did, cheating on his wife in the process.
Well, someone is lying and someone is telling the truth. If Baldwin told his wife that he never had an affair with Sabourin and she believed him, but he really does have a scar where Sabourin says he does, then it must have been really tense at the Baldwin household last night.
Even if Sabourin is telling the truth, how does that justify her actions in any way? Genevieve, honey, if a man gets a restraining order against you, that’s a pretty good indication that he doesn’t want to marry you or make babies with you.
She’s scorned and angry. Hell hath no fury, you know.
But ultimately, she’s only hurting herself. No matter how badly he behaved, and how justifiable her anger at him is, her actions since then have completely ruined her reputation. By the way, she refused a plea deal which would have avoided a trial and kept her out of prison. All she had to do was agree to stay away from Baldwin and his wife, and she refused.
Oh, believe me, my comment was in no way a defense of her. She’s a loon. But so is Alec and most of the women he attracts to himself. Or, like someone else here commented, the women become loons after dealing with him.
The divorce from his current wife — which absolutely WILL happen, but probably not for several more years — will be epic.

I don’t know what to feel here. It sounds like Baldwin was legitimately harassed, which is scary and shouldn’t happen to anyone. But why was he so stupid? It’s an old affair, he wasn’t married at the time, and he could have easily painted it as something that happened when he wasn’t in an exclusive relationship with his now-wife. Why not just admit the relationship?

This story made her crazy .. i read the mail she wrote to him and u can see she is not there anymore. She need help.

CNN has just reported that she continued her outbursts in court this morning, so the judge found her guilty of contempt of court and sentenced her to 30 days in jail.
The woman is certifiable. She is crazy and is harrassing and stalking him. She couldn’t even shut up in court. Very bizarre behavior. Some of those messages she left him are disturbing. I feel for hiim and his wife. On the street in a brief interview you could see she is not all there and she is loving the attention.
Alec would never lie and say another man he works with was having an affair with this woman if it wasn’t true. He would just keep to his story but not drag in another person he knows saying an affair was going on. Now if he’s lying about sleeping with her once I don’t know. But lying about yourself is far different than going so far to lie about another person I never see him doing.
But lying about someone else in proximity to you, to explain circumstances where you were either communicating with, or seen together with this woman, makes sense, doesn’t it? That way, you are only speaking to someone who has an association with a friend of yours versus the reason being that you are speaking because you have some relationship. Supposedly Bergman said that he was sleeping with his current wife, back then, at the same time he was having a fling with this woman, so that could be a motivation. At any rate, she shouldn’t have been stalking, but if he didn’t have an affair, he shouldn’t be lying about it in a court either.

Also, he has no real reason to lie about some past fling that I can see. He wasn’t even cheating on Hilaria, it would have been Kim.

Exactly. This woman is a stalker and is delusional and has escalating aggressive behavior. This is a very frightening situation when you think of celebrities that have been shot and killed by their stalkers who were obsessed with them. He has a wife and baby to worry about.

Yes! I could not agree more with your well written assessment @Emily C. I’m no Baldwin apologist-and we all know he carries around his own demons and particular brand of crazy-but “victim blaming” is exactly what it is if people might now give this woman a pass for her insane and ILLEGAL behavior because it’s possible that she and Alec might have previously had a sexual fling.
Would said apologists be doing the same if the genders were reversed? Highly unlikely.
I watched this show on netflix about stalking–I can’t remember what it was called, but it scared the bejesus out of me. I particularly remember this one case of a female hairdresser in Detroit. She attended some function, at which she handed out business cards advertising her hair salon. The guy who ended up stalking her was there, and that’s how he got her number. This is a person that she had only briefly spoken to ONE TIME. It was literally a hi and a handshake. She was a single mom.
At first he just started calling her, asking her out on dates–but she wasn’t interested in him. So, of course, he kept calling, driving by her house–he even sent her a box full of toys–to “prove” that he was a good provider for her kids. But the creepiest thing–what got him caught and sent to prison, was that she got her locks changed and put a security system in (like ADT)–he paid/bribed the contractor or whoever for the code to her security system and a key. So while she was gone, he’d go into her house, and leave something open–like a closet or cupboard door.
And that’s how they caught him–he left his finger prints in her house–while she had a restraining order. But it went on for a good 3-4 years. I can’t believe that it is so hard to get a stalker off your back–policewise.
As in the case you mentioned, some stalkers choose strangers (or almost-strangers) as their victims; others had an actual relationship with their victim (could be anywhere from a one-night stand to a long-term marriage) and cannot or will not accept the fact that it’s over. So it’s really irrelevant whether Alec Baldwin slept with this woman or not: stalking is stalking.

Unless Baldwin’s story totally falls apart, it’s plausible he got stalked. Lots of stars do.
Marty Bregman is 87 but still working and completely with it. He’s been a major industry player for decades and if he had an affair, it’s doubtful it would hurt him personally or professionally.
Alec on the other hand, has a mottled reputation, a new marriage with a younger, media hungry wife and a talk show in the works. He has a lot to lose. It’s likely he was banging Genvieve and Hilaria at the same time and chose Hilaria. Since Genvieve is likely very disturbed, it’s also possible that she couldn’t take no for an answer.

I find it interesting that so many believe that he slept with her and at the same time are siding with him, which means they are fine with him perjuring himself. If he has such an ironclad case against her for stalking, then why does he need to lie on the stand?

No one said they were fine with him perjuring himself, if he did. We said that we were NOT fine with her stalking him, whether he slept with her or not. The evidence of her stalking is quite clear, and is even born out by her behavior in the courtroom.
Actually maybe I was reading earlier comments incorrectly. But I was picking up a lot of comments on how he must have slept with her and the lots of iteration on what a crappy personality he has.

I really don’t understand her lawyer’s shabby-at best-attempt at a defense here. So, even if the “intimate relationship” allegation is true (I think it’s possible, but imagine it would have had to have been casual sex at best once he quickly started to see all this crazy come out) that gave this woman a pass to flat out STALK a man and his fiancé via hundreds of threatening emails, waiting outside of their apartment building expressly against their wishes to the point of frequent arrests, and to constantly violate a restraining order by hanging outside of his various places of work because it was all in the name of attempting to get “closure on a crumbling romantic relationship”?!? CLEARLY this woman is bat s**t crazy no matter how/when she and Baldwin met. And thankfully, that type of thing is completely irrelevant when it comes to cases of stalking/restraining orders. (Many of which are brought because of unhinged exes/former flings.)
Call me crazy, but when one person feels and declares that any type of relationship needs to be completely over-be it post a one night stand or a committed relationship of several years-the other party is obligated to respect that and back off. A mentally stable person would despite being hurt. And if the ending party tells you to leave them alone altogether, well, then anything beyond that is harassment. Plain and simple.
There is a pathology that I’ve seen in operation that I think is happening here. I knew a girl whose fiance had an ex who was “crazy”. Stalking, vicious/crying voice mails, yelling outside of their house the whole nine yards. She married him, and when they divorced, I saw her behaviour become like the “crazy-ex” and some loving friends & family intervened to keep this lovely pHd student from having a breakdown.
There are some men who know how to manipulate to the point of cruelty, and some women who don’t know that it’s happening to them, and when they find out, they lash out. While I think stalking is wrong & illegal and she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, I think Alec pushed her to it because he thought he could get away with it, which is not just bad, it’s cruel.

For awhile there, Alec Baldwin was looking much slimmer and happier with his new wife; it seemed like he had gotten a fresh lease on life…now his hair is gray again and the paunch appears to be re-growing. Big changes in appearance that are happening fast.

He may be a raging narcissist and egomaniac, and he may very well have slept with her, however she’s turned into a bunny-boiler which is the more serious issue here. Consensual sex is not illegal, even if he was seeing Hilaria at the same time. Breaking up with someone isn’t illegal either, however stalking, threatening and harassing someone for breaking off with you is. So as much as I think Baldwin is an arrogant, self-aggrandizing d-wad, Genevieve is clearly off her rocker and potentially dangerous, and needs to be restrained against further intimidating behaviour.
This – being a cad is not a crime; Alec Balwin may be a cheat, a liar, and a raging narcissist but none of those things are actually crimes.
Her behavior is another story. Threatening and stalking people are criminal acts. Yes she’s crazy, and yes he may have slept with her and then dumped her, but her behavior is criminal.

Marty Bregman is a gentleman. Clearly she has no one in her corner and doesn’t have Baldwin’s acting skills so it’s especially kind that at least one man be upfront. I think Baldwon and this woman deserve each other in temper and lunacy. Hilaria is a bit of a joke IMO. That eyebrow and the black dye (eyeroll!) are no match for when her bully husband will unravel. Because he will.
On the one hand: If he met with her to give her career advice, why would she have his phone and email? Mr. Baldwin got caught with his pants down and is trying to act his way out of it. On the other: the D.A. wouldn’t have charged her if there wasn’t evidence.

This has Fatal Attraction blaring all over it. I do believe he had a one night stand with year while he was simultaniously dating Hilaria. Except, his partner didn’t want to lose him so the stalking begins.
With all the other celebrities who’ve been stalked or had strangers break into their home [some, if not many, of them certifiable] do you Baldwin haters assume that there HAD to have been an AFFAIR for that to happen?
Many stalkers just obsess over someone famous who they never meet.
That doesn’t mean he didn’t get sexual with her. Famous men meet a lot of women and sometimes have a sexual encounter. But then, she came referred by someone he knew, so she wasn’t a total stranger camped on his doorstep.
He may have done more with her than he wants to admit, but he’s not responsible for her acting crazy — she’s doing a great job of that herself.
He probably did sleep with her, and it might have overlapped his new relationship with Hilaria, but why lie? Just tell the truth and the woman is apparently bonkers anyway to have stalked him because he wasn’t interested and was getting married to someone else. The woman should be charged a fine for stalking and causing an unnecessary trial. If she was aware that Alex was with someone else and did not want her attentions, then she would be in the stalker category because she wouldn’t leave him alone. She’s obviously got mental problems. She probably needs therapy and help.
They are both crazy, and she is obviously enjoying the attention from the media. I feel bad for the 87 year-old who Alec threw under the bus. The best part of the TMZ video is the woman in the background with the bottle of iced tea. She’s all, “ain’t nobody got time fuh dat.”

I’m usually not so keen to jump and believe something right away like this, but I only read the title of the article and immediately thought “I don’t doubt any of it”.
I think that woman is insane, first of all why take so much interest in a married man, they are taken, majority of men are players anyway and I doubt she would have slept with a man in his 80s as by that time one is quite demented and not interested in that area, too tired. That older man is just trying to save his own skin. That woman needs to realise that although celebrity and trying to link oneself to a celebrity is highly addictive, this is a lost cause, she should have just kept quiet as now that it is public news, I think her life will become like Monica Lewinsky, nobody would take interest as it is all over the internet, media. I think the best option is for her to become a nun and help poor people or do alot of community service instead of trying to extort money somehow as that is the easy way to make a living.
