Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel are over. This is absolutely no surprise if you read A) this site, B) Star Magazine or C) the urban blogs. There were rumors about Taye and his wandering dong for a while, but things definitely started coming to a head this year, following widespread tabloid reports that Taye was acting like a single guy in LA, hitting up strip clubs and getting busy with randoms. Taye and Idina were together for a really long time – they’ve been married for ten years, and I think they were together for many years before that. So… is this sad? Or are you happy that Idina has finally dumped the cheater?
After a decade of marriage, Taye Diggs and Idina Menzel have separated, PEOPLE has learned.
“Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time,” reps for the couple tell PEOPLE. “Their primary focus and concern is for their son. We ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”
Diggs and Menzel, both 42, met as costars in the original production of the Broadway musical Rent in the mid-1990s. They married in 2003 and had a son, Walker, in 2009.
Menzel, a Tony Award winner for Wicked, spoke to PEOPLE about the marriage earlier this year, saying it wasn’t always smooth sailing.
“We work at it,” she said. “I’m not going to glamorize it or glorify it – we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate.”
I actually sort of suspect that their marriage has been on life-support for a while, and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that they have been separated for most of this year, wouldn’t you think? Not that a quiet, unannounced separation would justify Taye’s alleged behavior. Anyway, I hope Idina is doing well and I hope they keep everything civil for their son.

She is beautiful in ethereal way…would not mind looking like that at 42! We shouldn’t judge really but he could have been more discreet about hitting on women when they have ly been separated.

Idina’s skin is flawless and very youthful. A combination of good genes and healthy living probably. She looks much younger than 42. I wish her well. She is too good for Taye and his wandering dong. I remember him also saying some pretty misogynistic things about black women and indirectly about white women in the past. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who respects women at all so his behavior shouldn’t be all that surprising. Too bad she stayed with him for so long.
I don’ t know what it is that makes her look that good! If she had some work done, than she has a very good plastic surgeon, if she had not, then I hope I’ ll look half as good at that age (not going to happen)! But yeah, if he cheated on her, she’ ll be better without him around! I don’ t understand people who stay with cheaters, whatever the reason. Not even for the kids. A person can be a good parent and keep being a good parent without having to live with a partner s/he has just cheated on! Oh, well…
I am sad. This is no surprise, but I was hoping the rumors weren’t true, or that they would find a way to work through their troubles. Well, Idina deserves better then. Love her.

I always thought that both had basically insinuated that they had an open marriage, and that is where a lot of the “rumors” originated from. Anyway, sad no matter what whether the rumors are true or not.

I mean I hate to see the dissolution of someone’s marriage. Truly. Then I remember that time that taye diggs said that black women were the reason “private practice” was cancelled. And then I feel a little less sad. Still sad, just a little less.
What did he mean by that comment? I thought it was cancelled because it had run its course (long before it was cancelled).
Yeah he always is bad mouthing black women, saying how impossible black women are. Really, I think HE is just impossible to be with regardless.
I guess he thought that just because he’s black that black women would flock to his mediocre show. And when we didn’t, it was OBVIOUSLY because we had a problem with him. Jeez. Seems we can’t win, when it comes to this douche. She’s better off without him.
She is such a talent and a beauty. I hope she ends up with some fabulous dude who treats her like gold.
I adore her & I admit I really liked them together. Very sad!
I styled them both for a photoshoot a while back. He was super sweet and professional. She was the nastiest celebrity I have ever worked with. She was rude, arrogant and kept telling me to “get out of the f**king way”. Whined the whole time about her body while walking around in a thong and nothing else in front of 30 people. Nightmare.
That depresses me. I only met her once, for a short period of time and she was so lovely.

She is gorgeous-hope they keep it classy for the sake of their son. I always got major douchebag vibes from him (he was on some silly reality show a while ago and came across as a big ass), so probably good riddance for her.

Eh, I still think he’s a jerk. Even if they were separated, that doesn’t mean you need to go around flinging one dollar bills at strippers, bragging about your single status. I’d be upset if my friends and family knew that–let alone the internet.
But then again, I see she’s not such a nice person after all, so maybe he felt like he was finally free–but still. Be the classy one, douche.
Both of them have had their less than stellar moments, so I’ve always felt that they were perfect for each other. I’ve known people who’ve had wildly different encounters with them both, so to me it seems like all the good AND bad stories about each of them have a grain of truth to them…which means that my sympathies rest only with their son because divorce tends to suck no matter how your parents behave.
