The tabloids are just itching to correctly call a feud between Jennifer Lawrence and just about any other actress. Preferably an actress who’s already a tabloid favorite, like say Kristen Stewart or even Julia Roberts, who is usually makes the rags for being snotty. Julia has probably been driving Meryl Streep crazy lately and (just a few years ago) has been linked to a feud with Kristen Stewart. Now the circle of bitchery is complete. See how that works?
This week’s issue of the Enquirer says Jennifer Lawrence got wind of the Hollywood Reporter interview where Julia said JLaw was “too cool” to be in the America’s Sweetheart club. Jennifer is reportedly spooked and has no idea what Julia’s problem is with her. Here we go:
“JULIA who?”
Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence lashed out after Julia Roberts questioned whether the Hunger Games: Catching Fire star was fit to take her place as “America’s Sweetheart.”
Now a bitter feud has erupted between the box-office beauties. Sources say Jennifer, 23, brushed off 46-year-old Julia’s remarks as “sour grapes” because the Pretty Woman star is over the hill!
“Jennifer told a pal, ‘I don’t know what her problem is. I never said a bad word about her in my life,'” said a source.
A friend added: “As far as Jennifer’s concerned, Julia can keep the damn label of “America’s Sweetheart”!
“She’s not interested in it, and she could care less what Julia thinks of her.”
Julia – an Oscar winner for the 2000 drama Erin Brockovich – publicly claims to be a fan of Jennifer, who took home an Academy Award for last year’s Silver Linings Playbook.
But mother of three Julia got sarcastic when talking about Jennifer to an MTV News reporter recently. “She shoots flaming arrows,” she said about Jennifer’s role as warrior teen Katniss in the Hunger Games blockbusters. “Is this a new cupid tactic?”
Then Julia added: “I think she’s fabulous, but she seems cooler than me. Isn’t she too cool to be America’s Sweetheart?”
The source concluded: “Julia’s just jealous of Jennifer because she’s Hollywood’s new ‘It Girl.’ Jennifer’s attitude is that Julia needs to grow up.”
[From Enquirer, print edition, December 23, 2013]
I can buy this story to a degree. As in someone probably informed Jennifer of Julia’s interview, and JLaw was like, “What the hell? I don’t even have the energy to think about Julia at all.” Because that much is true. Jennifer is so busy racing from premieres to film sets to Dior shoots to awards shows that Julia is probably one of the last people to ever cross her mind without a reason. Meanwhile Julia makes one movie per year with minimal press duties. So she’s got plenty of time to stew about the “it girls” who have taken over her throne. It could happen.
Moving on from feud news, this week’s issue of InTouch says JLaw was super high strung as she filmed her interview segment for this year’s Most Fascinating list. Barbara Walters reportedly asked, “I understand sometimes before an interview, you take a shot: Did you take a shot before this interview?” Jennifer replied that no shots were taken, but she made the mistake of drinking coffee, so she was “shaking and nervous.” Ooh boy, Barbara’s going to get some good poop stories out of this one.

“A friend added: “As far as Jennifer’s concerned, Julia can keep the damn label of “America’s Sweetheart”!
“She’s not interested in it, and she could care less what Julia thinks of her.””
Oh, derrr.
My guess is that Jennifer Lawrence could NOT care less but maybe that’s just wishful thinking on my part.
I’m with you. I don’t think she cares plus, Julia is not really a fan of anyone other than Julia so no reason to get upset. The whole thing seems pretty dumb.
+1 on that.
Agreed, I really hope Jennifer Lawrence herself would say “I couldn’t care less…” rather than “I could care less…” since the latter would have the opposite meaning she would intend.
I’m not sure it was supposed to be an insult – wouldn’t an actress rather be a real Oscar winner (and not of a thanks for making us a lotta money Oscar) at a young age and perform meaty roles than be America’s sappy fake sweetheart? Besides, Jennifer has a charming, earthy, real personality, so she sort of is our sweetheart.
I saw what you did there, Frida_K 🙂 Thank you!
I doubt this is true. I didn’t think Julia’s statement was shade in any way, it was actually a compliment and J Law seems like a laid back girl who doesn’t like drama and isn’t going to get all in a tizzy over something like this.
+1
Agreed. Shocked anyone could find it as shade. Julia was definitely complimenting J-Law. Besides, with sweethearts like Julia & Reese….does anyone really want to be one?
Jennifer seems above mean-girl drama.
That’s what I took away from Julia’s comments too. How the tabloids could interpret it any other way is beyond me. Sounds like Julia was fan girling JLaw.
+3
She said “She seems cooler than me” how is that shade? It would be like putting Angelina in “Americas Sweetheart” category. No way! Shes too cool. Pretty sure this is a compliment, not that I put backhanded remarks past ol’ Julia though.
I don’t think Julia was making a dig at Jennifer, I think she was snarking on the concept of “America’s Sweetheart”. I could see Jennifer responding angrily as a gag, because she also enjoys employing sarcasm. But what do I know? Nothing, obviously.
I agree. I remember the interview and it was playful and sarcastic. Julia usually grates on my nerves but she was being funny.
Yeah. I thought so too.
All completely made up out of thin air.
No strong feelings about Julia Roberts either way, but this does sound like nonsense.
This sounds like it’s completely made up. The media just always has to create feuds between women, same old, same old.
Agree. This is a non-story. If Julia really did say that, she really called Jennifer Lawrence cool and it did not sound like shade throwing to me. I highly doubt Jennifer would be offended by that. Again, I don’t think this happened.
I totally agree! It wasn’t a dig in the first place, and even if, I doubt that Jennifer was annoyed or the least interested. Lately, we’ve been having very slow days on this website, gossip-wise. Maybe I am wrong, but I feel like there’s a need to fill the void with non-existent, uninteresting facts, just because. For example, I could not care less about Benedict Cumberbatch, I know he has a solid fan-base and I accept the occasional post when he’s promoting a project, but how is it possible that EVERY GIVEN DAY he comes up with an inspirational, thoughtful statement ?? Does Celebitchy has to report on every single word he utters?? PLEASE!
I saw this interview on Yahoo, I believe. It happened alright. Awful words from Julia to Natalie Portman on Oprah show years ago. Nothing new for Julia.
they deserve each other though. both like to play the game and be the center of attention.
they can’t help it that they’re popular…
I’m not sure if you meant it as a dig or not, but you pretty much just described any actor ever.
I didn’t, actually, mean it as a dig. I like and respect both of these women. And Jennifer i think has handled the fame in particular wonderfully. She strikes a good balance between needing the fame to promote her films but not giving the media anything good about her private life or her relationships. And as for Julia, she is a self centered attention seeking type of personality, but that’s just Julia. Always has been. But the woman is breaching 50 and still kicking so good on her.
@blue marie Don’t bother with Marie, she’s always in J-Law posts making sure that we never forget how fake Jennifer is, how she doesn’t deserve any of the success she’s getting. Did I leave anything out @Marie?
@Dani2 you forgot to add that JLaw needs to beg Harvey to buy her some acting classes, but almost 🙂
ohhhh, and as if I was the only one lol. That Barbara girl is obsessed with justifying every.single.thing JFlaw does
@Marie lol you are always one of the funnier anti-fans, can’t wait for how you’ll react to Jen winning her second Oscar next year. I’m hoping she wins purely for your reaction. Stay seething, honey 🙂
I love Jennifer and I’ve just seen American Hustle and was so – disappointed. I read the reviews and everyone said she knocked it out of the park so I expected so much. She was very over the top, and she’s good when acting angry or crazy, but other than that I wasn’t impressed at all. She always went for the obvious choice. I’m not a huge fan of Amy Adams, but she outacted Jen in this one. Maybe I went in expecting too much.
@Dani2 I actually want her to win so she get even more overrated and when she finally comes around to playing a role that doesn’t involve screaming and flipping people will notice how mediocre she is. I CAN’T F*CKING WAIT !!!
But Lupita will win. Lupita WILL win. If she doesn’t, I’m taking this site down. I swear.
@cupcake. That’s interesting. My friend got us into a screening recently, and while I loved Jennifer my friend thought she was WAY over the top. Anyway, there were a couple of critics on twitter who were apparently saying the same thing—too much. However, most critics adored her in the film and have her right behind Lupita. The whole thing is kind of funny, with this obviously fake feud…that Julia, like Jennifer, can be over the top in interviews and sometimes in acting. I think they are more alike than they are different, tbh, in terms of being very loud and gregarious.
@Marie I’m glad you’ve finally ditched the rational-dislike facade. The obsessed-hater thing suits you so much better. As I said, stay seething 🙂
@Cupcake:
Really? I just saw American HUstle and thought Jennifer was clearly the best part of the whole thing. Amy was good in the first half but too inconsistent…Jennifer stole the show in the second. My friend loved her in it too. My fav in the movie was Bradley though. But i can see why Jennifer has most people talking.
@ Marie LMAO. She already has played a role that doesn’t involve screaming or crying….The Beaver, Poker House, Winter’s Bone, Hg’s…
@ Marie … wow your hate is scary…. but oh so entertaining, Love the seethe!!! Lupita may win, but honestly seeing the movie she doesn’t deserve it.
@Amanda.
Yes, I loved Jennifer (although I do think Lupita was better) and I thought this was a way better performance than SLP. She definitely deserves all the accolades for the role. And most of the critics love her too, and I get why—it’s definitely a “showy” role and she owns it. But it was curious to me that Cupcake said that, because my friend felt the same way that she did and I’ve seen a few dissenting voices from the critics who agree with what Cupcake said.
It was a shame about Amy. I love her, but she was inconsistent in the role. I kind of blame that on DOR to be honest. She’s usually so good, so for her to not be perfection was a shock and I wonder if it was because of his direction (which I thought had some issues to be honest).
In terms of the movie, I can’t believe I’m about to say this but I thought Jennifer was better than Christian Bale….that Bradley surprised me because I thought he completely slayed the role. I was kind of surprised how not slayed I was by DOR too, he seemed to be ripping off Scorsese to me and the tone was a bit off. I completely understand where all the love for Jennifer is coming from, and some of the other actors like Bradley, but I’m kind of shocked at the love for the movie as a whole. This seemed like one of the cases were the acting was stronger than the film
@ marie,
love all your comments. lol @ JFlaw
I doubt this is true. Jennifer is too damn smart to start a feud of any kind with another A-list actress. That isn’t her style. She seems like a very intelligent young woman who wants to come off as someone who will promote healthy bodies, eating, and defending other women who are being cut down by the media. While everyone else was insulting Miley Cyrus, Jennifer was one of the few who didn’t take the opportunity to criticize her. I’m not the biggest Jennifer Lawrence fan, but I’ll give credit where credit is due. She’s very smart and mature, probably more mature than Julia Roberts. Also, I didn’t find what Julia said to be insulting. She said Jennifer was too cool to be America’s sweetheart. Jennifer would probably secretly agree with that. She has a different persona from Julia Roberts, Meg Ryan, Reese Witherspoon, etc. She’s too tomboyish and foul mouthed to be in the same category as those women and that’s probably a good thing. I don’t think Jennifer is losing any sleep over Julia’s comments.
I lol’d at “Jennifer is probably more mature than Julia Roberts”. That i would agree on. I don’t think Julia meant to shade Jennifer though, feels like the media is trying to create a feud.
How is what Julia said bad? Much ado about nothing.
I don’t think Julia was throwing shade, I think she was being nice for a change! Nonsense story.
What a conveniently placed “source”
I love the first picture. Josh looks so cute and nice. He’s definitely better looking than Liam Hemsworth.
Different strokes for different folks and all that cause I definitely find Liam the more physically attractive of the two 🙂 I find Chris and Liam to be beautiful men while still retaining their masculinity (sp?).
I’m on the Hutcherson bandwagon too. Liam has never done it for me. Neither has his bro. They just have… I don’t even know. Dumb faces. They look like big dumb lugs to me, and they don’t have enough acting ability to sell it to me. There’s something more interesting about Josh.
More like: are the media trying to make a Roberts/JLaw feud happen?
More overblown garbage by media.
How is that shade??? Jennifer isn’t very bright if she construed it as anything other than a compliment
Most of these actresses hit a certain age and transform into Norma Desmond.
I don’t think JLaw would start a feud. As for Julia? I can picture her spitting chips about being second or third.
After all these years, Roberts hasn’t reached Streep standards.
Her brother, despite his past issues and stream of b-grade acting gigs to pay bills, is a better actor than her. If he didn’t screw up his life, he’d be right up there with the likes of other actors of his age. Julia Roberts is so damned overrated. She plays the same personality in every film she is in.
Whenever I see her name in the cast list as a lead I just can’t be bothered renting the DVD, never mind paying at the box office. But because Meryl is in the most recent film, then yes, I’ll see it. But if Meryl wasn’t it in. Whatevs.
acting wise, the same can be said about JFlaw though
JFlaw? Did you make that up?
You’ve seen Mean Girls, no? There’s a joke about “fetch” here somewhere.
@Marigold, No, I haven’t. I stole the idea from an ONTDer, where people are actually aware of JFlaw’s flaws and don’t mindlessly love her like people here.
Her fans are not mindless, just because you fail to see her appeal doesn’t mean others automatically have to agree with you. She’s a good actress, I’ve liked what I’ve seen of her work. You may think that makes me a mindless sheep, all I can say is Baa. No one convinced me to like her, I just do.
“disgusted with Julia roberts” instead of “jennifer lawrence disgusted with Julia roberts after the americas sweetheart dig” – there, I fixed the title of the article for you :p
Oh sweet… another fabricated article pitting two women against each other… *rolls eyes*
I would have taken it as a compliment in all honesty
JLaw might be too “cool” to be America’s Sweetheart, but Julia Roberts is too old to be it.
And not very sweet.
…and a #1 frenemy to women.
I hate these fake feuds that the tabloids try and start. I mean, why don’t we ever hear a fake feud about Jonah Hill being jealous of Fassy’s popularity with the women and the fact that they are competing over one of the few BSA Oscar spots that are up in the air? Or Matthew McConaughey envying Jared Leto’s luxurious shampoo commercial worthy hair? It’s always some stupid fake feud between women that the tabloids nevertheless pick up and carry and spread.
Julia’s skin look like ish on Letterman last night. Like she needs to drink some water. Her lips were all dry and her skin looked a little sandpaper-ish
Julia Roberts = America’s Sweetheart? She’s a mega-b*tch. The media might have crowned her that, but the people did not get vote.
It was hype created around the time Jennifer was born. I have no idea if JR is jealous or snarky, but I could envision a much younger actress like Jennifer just blowing off her comments. Julia went into a career slowdown before Jennifer was even a teenager.
In all honesty, Julia is a hag who is very, VERY soon going to be relegated to the role of Mother of the Main Protagonist Played by a Much Younger, Prettier Ingenue. Sad, but that’s the way Hollywood views 40-somthing-year-old actresses, especially those who aren’t aging well physically, like Ms. Roberts. If this story is true, it’s unfortunate for Julia because she doesn’t stand a chance. She is the dusty, dried-up Ghost of Hollywood Past, and Jennifer Lawrence is the present and the near future, until she, too, is replaced. That’s the way it is. When Marilyn Monroe apologized to Betty Grable for getting the bigger, nicer dressing room while they filmed “How to Marry a Millionaire,” Betty replied, “Don’t worry about it. It’s your turn now. I had mine.” Julia should learn to do the same. She’s not Pretty Woman anymore.
Well that was vitriolic. Julia looks great and I’ve never been a fan. There’s no crime in aging and it’s very sad that you feel the need to pepper your insults with references to her antiquity. You’ll be lucky to be her age one day, I can tell how much you’ll enjoy it.
I’m confused, Julia Roberts saying JLaw was too cool to be America’s sweetheart was a dig? I think Jennifer is too cool for all that. I always think of America’s sweetheart as Meg Ryan or Kate Hudson, the cute girls that are making the rom coms. This seems like people trying to make something out of nothing.
It sounds to me like what Julia said was taken entirely the wrong way. I think she meant it as a compliment. Usually the type of actresses who are ‘America’s Sweetheart’ are making romantic comedies… not Oscar nominated flicks. sometimes I think these magazines are just desperate to print any story and make stuff up lol.
When I heard Julia say that it never even remotely entered my mind she was shading Jennifer. This is total nonsence! She was admitting she is a fan!
I don’t believe this article. This is just a made up story. Julia is happy with her husband and kids and could care less about being hollywood it girl.
I don’t think Julia’s comment was insulting, weird & dumb, but not insulting. I doubt Jennifer really cares. Nor Julia.
Much ado about nothing. It’s possible Julia was being passive aggressive but so what. Taken on face value she was being complimentary.
“Could care less” means she cares a little, People. Words have meanings. Sheesh. “Could NOT CARE LESS” means exactly what it says and what you are TRYING and failing to say- it is not possible to care less than she cares…
What I meant to say is that she doesn’t care. Christ take a breathe
Julia probably meant for her comment to be amusing, especially if it’s made during a late-night show.
