Even though the tabloids spent a lot of ink trying to make Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling into some kind of tabloid-y couple, it never really stuck. Ryan succeeded in taking a step back from the limelight, working on smaller projects and his directorial debut and being out of the country for most of 2013. Meanwhile, Eva has definitely been keeping it more low-key. She hasn’t been getting pap’d on a daily or weekly basis and… it’s not like she works that much or on big projects that get lots of attention. So, in the absence of gossip, did something actually happen between them? As in, are they over?
Superstar couple Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are taking a break in their relationship after it was decided they were moving too fast, RadarOnline.com has exclusively learned.
The 2 Fast 2 Furious actress and The Notebook hunk haven’t officially split, but, “there was a realization before Thanksgiving that they took things way too fast and were rushing toward a marriage that neither of them particularly needed,” a source told Radar.
“They’ve decided to take a break to reevaluate their romance.”
Still, according to the source, Gosling, 33, is the one who is undecided, but “Eva wanted to have his babies.”
The movie beauty, 39, has been Gosling’s girlfriend for more than two years. The source tells Radar that Gosling has been laying low because he’s coming off a flop movie, Only God Forgives, but he has big things planned for 2014, including the release of his directorial effort, How to Catch a Monster, co-starring Mendes.
“The real question is how Eva is going to figure into Ryan’s plans,” the source noted.
As Radar previously reported, sources told the U.K. tabloid Now magazine that Mendes was upset with Gosling early in 2013 when his ex-girlfriend, Rachel McAdams, called him for comfort after her split from Michael Sheen.
“They both know they need some kind of resolution in their relationship before they go out and promote their movie, in which Ryan directed Eva in a very big part,” the source explained. “At the end of the day they are both so uncertain about their future.”
Still, they might be pulled back together.
“Don’t be surprised if these two resurface together for New Year’s,” the source concluded.
I’ve seen some stories that were basically like “Ryan wanted a traditional path, marriage then babies, etc.” And those people were like “Eva didn’t want to get married but she was all for having Ryan’s baby.” I’m not sure I believe that though. Eva has always seemed kind of anti-marriage, but you would think… hey, she’s with Ryan Gosling, and if Gosling wanted to get married, she probably would have done it. But maybe not. That being said, I don’t believe the Rachel McAdams part of the story.

ITA and I’ll go one step further. I think this was a PR relationship for those two movies they did together. Now that one movie came out and flopped, and the other is about to come out, they are laying the foundation for the breakup.

I think they should be forced to be together for at least 2 more years of stupid photo ops and her walking his dog while getting her hair done.
I think they just didn’t mesh as a couple, but stayed together for a while to boost each others careers. That’s just my two cents.
I think they were pretty fake too but I don’t think she helped his career or image at all. People want to see him with Rachel or some perky cute Rachel like lady. Eva is an ice queen. He was borderline A but he slipped fast and his hiding away isn’t helping.
According to Lainey, he was the one pushing for marriage/kids and she was the one who was undecided.
I don’t particularly care about her, but she’s too good for his ugly, pretentious ass.

Strangely enough, the only part of that story I did find believable, was Rachel calling Ryan when she split from Sheen. Sometimes a person needs to mine the past to find out their negative relationship patterns so they stop bringing it to the table in the future.
I don’t pay particular attention to their relationship, but I kinda like them together. If they split, I’d probably be sad for a while, then quickly move on. Tee hee.
So many people seem to want him back with Rachel McAdams. I like McAdams a lot, but I know I’d be totally indifferent to her being back with Gosling. Perhaps because I always consider The Notebook one of the cheesiest romantic movies in contemporary Hollywood (I know, I know, I might be the only person in the world who finds the movie boring and a little cringeworthy).

She is absolutely stunning in these pictures. Why isn’t she bigger? She certainly has more talent than Jennifer Lopez. Yet for the life of me I can’t remember one movie she’s been in. They do look good together, but we all know that it takes more than that. Wish them well, but something tells me that neither will be single for long, IF they break up.
She’s not a good actress. She sucked the energy out of very scene she appeared in in The Place Beyond the Pines.
Idk. Though I have always found her incredibly egotistical, vain (“It’s hard to be such a beautiful woman!”) and really insufferable in all of her interviews (let’s just say the Saldana is very strong in them) I do kind of have to stick up for girlfriend here: Eva has always made it perfectly clear in interviews that marriage and babies are NOT what she’s about. She’s frequently stated that she loves the life that she’s worked hard for as is, and though she equally loves the children of her friends and family, having her own has just never been a part of her vision. That the press suddenly put amnesiac blinders up to this fact the minute she began dating Gosling (a man who has been vocal about feeling very much the opposite way) and tried to turn it all around sort of bugs.
Side note: I recently got ‘Only God Forgives’ on DVD and wow is that movie…interesting. It’s impossible to say whether I think it was bad or good because it’s just so, so…strange. That said, I don’t think there’s any way Ryan is upset at it being a “flop” because I’m pretty sure that all involved went into making that film knowing that there was never any way that it could/would possibly go mainstream. However, Kristen Scott Thomas did blow me away in her role 🙂 What an actress! Part of me wonders how drastically different the “mom” character might have turned out had the wonderful Cate Blanchett or Ellen Barkin taken it on…Ooooh. Maybe even Tilda? Can you imagine?!)
