Britney Spears made her big debut in Las Vegas on Friday, and these are some photos from her debut. This was the first show of her “Las Vegas residency” which… I mean, we need to think of a better way to talk about this, right? “Residency” implies some sort of super-professionalism, like a doctor’s residency or a world-renowned expert in some sort of amazing field talking a “residency” as a professor at some sleepy liberal arts college. What Britney is doing in Las Vegas is not a residency. It’s just a naked money grab by Jamie Spears and Britney’s management.
Surprisingly enough, even though these photos are sort of painful, her “Piece of Me” residency seems to be getting overwhelmingly positive reviews thus far. Apparently, the show lasts 90 minutes and 21 songs and she manages to make a 7000-seat venue feel somewhat intimate. The Daily Beast has a run-down of the night and the reviews here – critics note that the production value is pretty good, there are lots of costume changes and pyrotechnics and lithe backup dancers. Britney also made sure to include all of her big hits: “Toxic,” “Baby One More Time,” “Oops!…I Did It Again,” “Stronger,” and “Circus” are all included. Also – many noted that Britney was actually singing live to a backing track. SHOCK! During her tour a few years ago, many claimed she just put her CD on and “danced” and that was the tour.
So… this is good, I guess. Bless her heart. I don’t wish her any harm, my only worry was that the people shelling out all that money for Britney were going to be disappointed. But it sounds like Britney is giving them their money’s worth.

Those costumes and pictures are much worse than the others I’ve seen that look good. The reviews are in and they all seemed to be quite positive and her tweets where up beat. I just hope they aren’t, and don’t burn her out by her 100th show.

I caught a few minutes of her E! special yesterday following the days leading up to the “residency”. I’d say the above photos are pretty accurate to how she looks on TV.
I’m not seeing a chubby filter but I think some of the photos from the show that are accompanying news stories/reviews look like they were photoshopped to make her appear thinner. Maybe they are promotional shots given to these outlets.

I think residency is the correct word for a Vegas show like this. Typically the star is housed in Vegas and does multiple shows a week. They are a resident of the venue, performance-wise.
I watched a couple of GS’ Family Jewels reruns, and Gene’s manager tried to set up a similar gig for him. The manager stated that all the offers he fielded were good money, multiple shows a week with housing in Vegas and maybe 2 weeks off a year. Apparently Britney has a 2 year commitment, but only 100 shows total (50 per year).
Yep, residency is exactly the right word to use here. The word has multiple definitions, one being; the act of establishing or maintaining a residence in a given place.
I don’t know it gives me second hand embarrassment. I watched some clips from her show, I saw some photos where she had fake six pack. It is sad. She used to be really big. Too bad some people don’t know when to leave the stage. I think her team is destroying her legacy.
I don’t understand why they think she can pack in so many people? The first nite is a novelty, after that? Who knows? Her stance is odd, almost like she’s pigeon toed. I wish her the best, but she looks so fragile.

I agree. I heard “great reviews” and then I watched some clips….she is barely dancing. It just looked like a really, really low quality performance surrounded by great production value. That still doesn’t hide that the person in the center of it all isn’t doing even a moderately professional job. When she sat on the ground in Work B*tch and kicked her legs in the air like a toddler, it made me feel really bad about this. Its just not right.
These pics make me cringe so hard.. Growing up Britney was my number one female celebrity that I looked up to. As a chubby pre-teen I wished like you wouldn’t believe that one day I could have as amazing a body as Britney. Now I know that such an amazing physique takes time and energy that she might not be able to give with two young boys to raise, but good God, couldn’t her stylists have come up with a more flattering wardrobe?! Either that or it’s wonky camera angles? Britney works her ass off, why would her people let photos like this be released? She deserves better..
I think it’s the one piece body suits that just don’t flatter her because she has an athletic build. If they did cute legging type pants/shorts and crops and designs like that it would suit her body so much better. Think about the cute yellow and black outfit in Work B$itch. More of that and less of the one piece bathsuits!
What happened was Britney had two kids and got older. It happens to the best of us. A woman in her 30s will most likely not have the same body she had at 18. It’s nice to see a woman who isn’t starving herself in an attempt to stop time, but I do think that they could have made better fitting outfits that accentuate her curvy body. She is in no way fat though. She’s just too old at this point to be wearing these types of outfits. It gets embarrassing after a certain age to wear this stuff even if the person wearing it is in shape. Unfortunately, this is what Britney has to do because she really doesn’t have the vocal talent to get on stage and just sing like Celine Dion. Anyway, I’m glad the reviews are decent and people aren’t feeling totally ripped off for paying to watch her live. I think she has enough fans around the world that she will fill up seats for a while in Vegas. Lots of tourists from around the globe will pay to see her once in their lives as part of the Vegas experience. I think this gig suits her more than going on an exhausting worldwide tour. At least this gives her some stability for a while.
I have nothing but sympathy for Britney. However, she’s only 32, not 42. Madonna has also had two kids and is more than 20 years older than Britney: Madonna maintains an amazing physique, as do many other non-celebrity young mothers.
It’s probably more accurate to say that despite her massive wealth, Britney is not able to maintain her formerly svelte shape due to her more pressing health concerns, such as preserving her mental health.
It depends on body type and genetics too. Madonna has a more athletic physique than Britney. Also, Madonna looks horrible. She might be “in shape”, but she has massive muscles and protruding veins. Maybe you think that is more attractive, but I’d rather have Britney’s current body than Madonna’s. Lastly, Madonna still looks ridiculous in similar costumes. It’s never cute when a mom or woman reaching senior age is strutting on stage showing off her t&a in absurd stripper costumes. It’s not even cute when a young woman like Miley does it.
People do get older and as you age you tend to gain weight in places you would not normally. I think she looks good. God knows I’m not the same size I was when I was 20 is anyone else?
I was never a fan of Britney as a singer, but I am now a fan of her as a person. It’s not easy to recover from mental illness, let alone go back on stage where people will be critical of every thing you do. I would totally go and see her show if I could. I hope her show continues to do well.
It may be a money grab for her ‘handlers’, but maybe they thought she should ‘do something’ so she feels ‘productive’….the poor girl looks bloated and drugged…she should just stay home and enjoy her life and kids…surprising that reviews are good but at this point her competition is the other Larry Rudolph client, miley…
She looks drugged? Have you watched live clips of her dancing? She actually looks really good. Better than she has looked in a long time. Maybe this is something she wants to do?
Its the clips of the dancing that I find most disturbing. It is like they gave her very simple choreography, and she is still doing it half heartedly.
I watched some footage from the show and couldn’t believe how lethargic and disinterested she appeared. I’m surprised by good reviews. But then again, maybe those at stake hire reviewers. Or maybe blank eyes, lip syncing, and barely-there dance moves are trending now.
Someone who is not mentally stable enough to be in charge of her own life should not be working like this. Her father and management make me sick. She needs to be at home, away from the spotlight and pressure, getting well.
I agree 100%. I feel so sad for Britney that there appears to be no one in her life that is looking out for her best interests.
Britney is doing just fine. She doesn’t need to be at home treated like an invalid. She is right where she wants to be and I’ve never seen her happier. I’m sure her father is still looking after her best interests as he has done faithfully for years. As for this being a naked money grab, that’s just ridiculous. If her fans want to see her and are willing to pay the money, then that’s their decision. She puts on a good show – they go away happy. Win-win. Not a naked money grab except in the eyes of the critics who are trying to bring her down.

I agree @Tazina Britney seems to be doing a lot better lately. In her interviews, she seems really excited about getting back on stage and she looks great on stage. Vast improvement from when she was on X-factor. I think she finally seems happy again, and these shows are spread out over a good amount of time so she will be able to rest and relax between them.
@Tracy – I agree with you. Glad she did well if she did, but sorry that her family chooses to use her as their magic money tree. For those who say her family is doing what is best for her, there is a simple way to prove that. Create contracts in which she gets the profits and they get nothing – should be fine, right, because they just want what is best for B and to keep her happily busy, eh?
Or what she needs is the structure and direction of working. Everybody is different; lots of people need to be busy to be emotionally healthy.
Please… you don’t know anything about her situation or what might be best for her, and I like to think that her father and the rest of her family does. Her father is the reason why she still has a good life and a career that’s back on track.
I like to think that she’s working like she is because that’s what she wants. And her father is helping to guide her along that path and is taking care of her at the same time. Not everyone out there is as lucky to have a dad that cares about them like that (e.g., Lindsay Lohan).

Agreed. People shame Jamie Spears SO much – as if he treats her like some sort of cash cow. There are stories about him being an alcoholic and a bad dad when Britney was younger, but let’s face it – the dude was the only one who stepped in and was able to help his daughter when she was on a downward spiral. I get “real piece of work” vibes from the mom, but Jamie seems like he has literally given up his entire life to take care of Britney. He was pretty much THE reason she got help and turned her life around. There’s no ego with him, there’s no cash grabbiness. He seems like he just really cares.

Well, you like to think it but it may be just that….wishful thinking. No one can know for sure from the outside and given that man’s track history, I shan’t hold my breath.
Agreed. I feel very maternal toward her for some reason, and I worry. This is all too much. Too intense and too grueling for her.
Or working a regular schedule. Not touring. Working with the same people day in and day out. Having a steady paycheck, staying in a steady place, having her kids being able to go to the same school for the next few years. She’s stated in several interviews that shes tired of the grind of the road.
I think a steady vegas show is a much much better idea for her mental health than constant touring/media appearance/putting out new work. She’s still staying active but in a much more structured way.
I just hope that after this residency, she can live her life in peace, drinking fraps all day long. She will be set for life if she invests wisely and I just hope her father and manager leave her alone after this.
I love Britney, but I have seen some videos of the show and … I am not impressed. The costumes are awful, the long blonde wig is a joke. Her dancing really disappointed me. I saw her on the Onyx Hotel tour in Germany and the performance was on another level. I don’t want to hate on her, because I am always rooting for her, but some people see something in that Vegas show that is not there and long gone.

I don”t like Britney’s wardrobe and inspite of the good reviews, Britney looks stiff and slow. I felt embarassed when I watched her. I think so much is riding on this show, that reviewers are giving her a pass.

I’m glad it went well for her, but I still wish her “management” wasn’t pushing her into doing stuff like this. That’s a lot of work and pressure, and who knows if she can handle it all.

Brit is 5 feet 4 inches and looks healthy and normal. Her skeletal structure isn’t hanging out all over the place nor does she have a muffin gut lapping over the top of her spandex outfits. She’s able to dance for 90 minutes all while singing through it! She’s able to maintain that routine while dealing with the stresses of press and travel and the general bs that comes from celebrity life. From my perspective, her body is amazing if it’s capable of that sort of daily grind – and her mind is even stronger considering she doesn’t seem to have caved to the pressure to rely on some sort of foreign substance to keep her afloat.
People for some reason still expect her to be 1999-2003 Britney ….. Last I knew , it is pretty hard to compete with yourself from 10 years ago Celebrity or not.

I think (hope) people are just pointing out these costumes are all wrong for her build and create the illusion of chubby. Yes she has a fabulous figure but these absurd onesies make her look blocky. Ditto! Jennifer Lopez or Beyonce are not skinny women, and yet their stylists find the costumes that flatter their body types. At this point Britney should cover her upper arms and wear mini skater type skirts or on the stage instead of those bathing suits. I bet she would look million times better.

Agreed. Our standards are so warped when it comes to celebrities, we think this is “chubby.” But if you saw her in real life in a bikini or whatever, you’d probably be envious of her body. Most of us don’t look that good. This is “skinny” by normal people’s standards. I know, she’s a celeb so I guess it’s “fair” to judge her by celeb standards, but maybe we should step back and ask why we feel the need to do that, when most of us are decrying how unfair those standards are on a regular basis.

It’s weird that this is being called a residency considering Britney is only doing 50 shows a year when 300+ is the norm. She also has a lot of time between dates – about 15 shows then 4-6 weeks off. I doubt Britney will sing at all of her shows. I think she will for the first few shows only because they get the most attention. It will get people off her back about lip-synching, I saw a couple of clips and I think the good reviews are based on her performance last tour. She was pretty bad before so even small improvements will get great reviews.
I hope things work out for her and that she comes out of this feeling pretty happy about doing these shows. I hope she feels loved and supported by her fans, when all is said and done.

Not terribly long ago her father asked the courts to increase his “salary” for his role in the conservator thingee. I don’t know why he won’t let the poor girl rest. She surely has enough money to last her lifetime. Reminds me of the people who drag poor little Grumpy Cat (the real cat) from pillar to post to meet and greet and get her picture taken.

She has always had an athletic muscular type body. The problem here is the costume design. Not flattering and cheesy looking.
This. In the documentary Britney is very thin . I mean, I was very surprised how thin she was. I think it was from all the dance rehearsals. She was in tights and things like that for dance. But then in the show she looks heavier and that has to be purely some of those costumes. She has short muscular legs and some of the outfits did her no favors.
But if you look at her in the body stocking in the opening number,where she practically looks nude, but without the leotards that cut low across her thighs, you can see how thin she really is. I mean she looked amazing in that.
I don’t know why she insists on wearing those leotards that come straight across her thighs, instead of cut up higher which would give the illusion of a longer leg.

She did say she is so shy that she is awkward in a lot of interviews and then makes the interview more awkward. That’s why it was nice to see her in her own environment chatty because she felt comfortable.

I’ve just started to watch the documentary and she does look really thin. But it’s not the same Britney we see in candid pics almost daily. I mean, she looks good and I am not here to hate on her body/shape/weight whatsoever, but she certainly does not have a flat stomach, whereas it appears so in the video. I am feeling they “tweaked” the documentary in some way to make her look thinner. I don’t know how but there must be some technology I am not aware of. Other than this, she’s a sweet, simple girl who used to be very, very talented. She’s still adorable but come on, let’s not pretend she can pull this show off. There was a time when Britney could lead the choreography, she was an amazing dancer and athlete. Now she can barely copies some moves, it’s actually pretty sad if you think about it. I have birthed two boys as well, and will NEVER look as good as this lady, naked or not. I am positive me in a (ridiculous), sparkly, sheer nude colored cat suit would traumatize folks. GO BRITNEY!
Even if you had her money and your lively hood depended on it? She has professional trainers. Family and nannies, to watch her kids while she works out. Most likely has all the state of the art gym equipment in her home which being available to use at any time. She allegedly had injections to flush out fat cells after her second 2nd child to kick start losing weight faster on top of exercising. She has a nice body but let’s be real. I think most people with her money could look just as good as Britney, or even better.
I’ve never been a fan of Spears, not even all that familiar with her music. Despite that, I’m real happy to see her doing o.k. You can criticize the look of her outfits or her (perhaps…) slightly larger than enviable physique, but compared to the girl who was shaving off her hair, looking as if she was totally gone, drugged, and in outer space, this seems pretty good to me. I’m always really happy and pleased to see someone that’s experienced significant adversity claw their way back to something good and noteworthy. It’s not easy to do. Most people don’t really make it back from where she was. She deserves plenty of credit.
I saw some of the videos and it was not good at all. She couldn’t keep up with the dancing and was lip-syncing to 14 year-old songs like Baby One More Time. Her fans even pointed out that she didn’t even bother to re-record them before the show & that they sound exactly just like the cd. The good thing is that its easy work. She only has to do a few days a month and gets tons of money. So there’s that.
I saw the two hour special on tv regarding this show. She spent ALL her time rehearsing the dance routines and no time actually singing live along with the dances. I know it’s hard to sing and dance at the same time, but she should at least sing live for the slow songs. This show of hers is all about dancing. I guess people are paying to be entertained and that’s what she’s doing so can’t really fault her for that.
I noticed that too, the whole documentary was her practicing dancing and going to interviews but I didn’t see any footage of her practicing her singing. I may be wrong because I didn’t watch every minute of it – fast forwarding boring parts.
idk, that kind of surprises me because from what I have seen of the show, her dancing is pretty, um, not good. Very slow and uncoordinated. I am surprised they focused on it that much with this result.

People say that to make them feel better about themselves. It assures them that no matter how bad or imperfect their lives is, atleast they are not Britney. Nevermind that this woman despite all she has been through, is doing incredibly well, working to support herself and family, has great medical care and her kids are healthy. It is never about Britney.
Go Britney! Keep doing whatever makes you happy. If your fans are happy about your shows and are willing to see you, then win-win for all parties involved. People will continue to say she’s forced to perform, even if she shout it to the world that this is what she wants to do.
Ah no, it’s not to make anyone feel better. From everything that’s been seen about her, I can’t help but feel sorry for her, growing up with so much preassure and abusive people is no joke. When I say I wish her the best, I really mean it.

I’d go see her show in Vegas in a heart beat! I’m glad that she got good reviews. This girl has been working it forever in her short life. I give her kudos for being able to get out there and do this, it can’t be easy. I holpe she makes enough to finally retire and get some rest.
I don’t understand all the bad comments about Britney’s Dad. He has taken good care of her for years. Do you remember how bad she was when she had her breakdown? Now, she has her kids with her, and is doing what she loves to do. If she is only doing 50 shows a year, that is LESS than one show a week. I don’t think that is pushing her too much, if this is something that she wants to do. I think he has done a great job! One question though, I remember reading a couple of years back that Britney’s parents rekindled their relationship. Anyone know if they are still together??
A naked money grab? Wow. She’s no different than Garth Brooks or Celine Dion or Cher doing a residency there. And people bashing the dad slay me. Watch her documentary. Brit is in a great place, is very excited about this show. She said she really wanted to up her choreography and dancing and was really putting in the hours. The gig is 50 shows a year out of 365 days a year and she doesn’t have to travel like if she was on the road. It’s basically five months out of the year probably. And she can take the jet they have offered to her to jet home quickly after the show to sleep in her own bed with the kids or they have a suite of rooms for her and the kids there. Good for her. I enjoyed the documentary. She and her dad and the rest of her family seem close and her sons were adorable. What I loved about it was how much Britney seems back on track, engaged in life and very in love. I’m so happy for her . She wouldn’t be doing this show if she didn’t want to. She said in a few years she would like to move back to Louisiana and have another baby, but at her age right now this is what she wants to do.
Ms. BPitt, I think they are all still together. On the documentary it showed them all together for Thanksgiving it looked like in Lousiana. I agree with you on the bashing of her father. If not for him, God knows what would have happened to Britney. She seems to really love her dad in the documentary. She was laughing and saying she’s so much like her father it scares her, showing some of their same mannerisms. As it got closer to the show and her rehearsals were going a bit longer one day, dad said he would pick up the kids and babysit them until Britney got home. And she is especially close to her longtime manager also who she said she considers family.
It’s very obvious her schedule revolves around her sons. All of her rehearsals and even the show’s huge set design was built and put together in California so she could rehearse there and keep her routine. Then they moved the set to Vegas and did the final rehearsals there.
Thank you Jayna. I saw the documentary and you could tell this is what she wants to do. The sparkle was back in her eyes. She looks a little more heavy lidded in these pics than she did in the documentary so I can see why people may think she’s not into it, but it seems she’s giving her fans their money’s worth, so what’s the problem? It looks like a really fun and entertaining show. There are plenty of singers who will sing a nice ballad and wear a pretty dress so move along and seek those people if that’s what you’re into.

I still believe the rumor that Brit Brit is NOT singing her songs. She lip synchs, has been doing so for her whole career, an unknown singer hiding behind the curtain. Just like ‘Singing in the Rain’.
Girl please. Do you really believe that? Because THAT’S the voice you would use to fake people out with?! That’s all her. Her voice is unique with a nice tone to it but it’s not powerful and she doesn’t have good breath control. That’s why she lipsyncs, she’s still singing along to her own voice though. I thought that much was obvious. She’s sang live before and her voice was shaky but it was still HER voice.

working in MH i see alot of weight gain happen fast on clients who take certain meds. When i first saw these pictures i attributed it to meds. she is not fat its just these show outfits are not working.
I agree with some of the previous posters because as they said, it’s only 50 shows a year, averaging a little less than 1 show a week. The residency means she can live a more stable, scheduled life without being on tour living as a nomad. This way, she can be with her kids more often & still get paid loads of money with less unknowns popping up.
I think I read that Britney does better when she is working. I would think having all her shows in one venue is preferable to touring. I hope that her team does this to keep her relevant so when/if she recovers she can pick up where she left off.

Don’t get me wrong, I think she looks fine in the pics above but there isn’t a “chubby filter”this is how she’s looked for a while now. She looks great.
I actually think this could be good for Britney. She performs, but stays put and has stability. She seems more alive and a little more with it than she has in the past. She’s not that electric young performer anymore, but the old magic is still there and this is probably the best thing for it.
I think she looks great in those pictures. In the “I am Britney Jean” documentary, she seems to be gaining weight, if you compare the first part with the last, but honestly, she’s never been skinny to begin with. She is by no means fat either. I think she was really excited with this show, and it gives her structure. She will be doing the same thing over and over again, and it’s not a bad thing, since she seems to be quite anxious.
After that rumor has it that she wants to end her career and have more babies and a much more private life.
I wonder how pregnancy under a conservatorship works. Does the conservator have rights over your unborn child. Could that person demand an abortion? Who makes the healthcare decisions? When the baby is born how does it work?
Right. She’s picked herself up from some pain, that’s an inspiration. My son loves her music, so I would take him to see it maybe? I guess it’s too sexual for a seven year old, so maybe not. The point is, she’s working, and all single moms gotta work! She looks so fit, and I’m surprised at these camera angles. People who see her in person remark that she looks more in shape than on film, so maybe it’s the curvy body type that can translate to “chubby” particularly while photographed.
It seems accurate that it’s lipsync, afterall, it’s Vegas, and not exactly a tour to promote an album; it’s just a retrospective and should be more smoke and mirrors than about hitting the right note.
Good for Britney. She did her time on the pop music concert tour. She’s earned her place.
Britney should retire. She’s does not look like she is enjoying what she does anymore. No sparkle, no nothing. A lost look about her, nothing behind the eyes. She was on top for her great dance moves and catchy tunes, it was never her singing, so why are people complaining about her lip synching? People didn’t care as long as she still had the moves, sadly she does not. From the little bits I saw, her performance looked half @*%#d. Her back up dancers out performed her.
Britney looks wonderful. Her body looks great! She is a mother of two and her body is rockin’! After all that’s she’s been through, I m so happy she is in a better place. Good for her for getting out there. I’ll def go see her this summer. I wish her the best!
im happy for her because she has a set schedule of shows with a lot of downtime in between. I feel like this is her “goodbye im retiring soon” tour. I’m going to the show in the summer/fall when my husband gets back from deployment. im so excited (Im 27 and Britney is my generation yall!)

2003, it isn’t…and time isn’t gonna turn back for Britney. I doubt she’s ever going to be the dancer she was back then, for a myriad of reasons. And a great singer, she never was. A lot of her appeal is nostalgia and memories of the great performer she was for the first five years of her career. She’d be fun to see, but I don’t know why anyone assumes it’s going to compare to the old days.
The happiest I’ve ever seen Brit is on stage. I grew up listening to her and really only wish her the best. I don’t understand the shade thrown at her family. They SAVED her. Who knows where she’d be after that major meltdown? It might seem like they’re restraining her and drugging her but does anyone ever think that maybe those drugs are mandatory? That she needs to be controlled in order to be able to keep her kids and stay alive? Her documentary shows how grateful she is for her family and where she is now. People need to stop waiting for her demise. It won’t happen. Just let her be. This is the healthiest and happiest she’s been in years and that’s all that matters. Why is that never enough?
Well you can find tons of Youtube clips about show. It really is great. With production, dancers, all her biggest hits. I’m glad that her show is successful. Whatever feelings people have for Britney but deep incise we all root for her to be better.

But snark aside, I hope she does well in her residency, retires immediately afterward, and finally gets the normal life that she’s clearly been craving for a couple of years now.
I, too, have wondered why they don’t just let her retire. But then I saw a clip where she said she was happier when working regularly. This must be true, because I doubt seriously her doctors would sign off on “making” her work because her family wants the money. And Britney certainly seems capable of throwing a major tantrum if she didn’t want this Vegas gig.
But it makes me rather sad. When I see her in that spangled body suit it makes me think of the video she did in that suit years ago and there was something so magical about her that you could not take your eyes off her. That’s long gone. But I do think all the things people complain about–her weight, her slowness when dancing, the “dead” eyes, are all due to the very medication she takes so she can work at all. All the psyche meds make you gain weight and they all slow you down to some extent. She cannot help this.
I have a soft spot for Britney after watching her meltdown. I wish her and her boys a happy, healthy life. I hope she enjoys her Vegas days to the fullest extent. She deserves to go out on a high note. I’m glad for the good reviews. She deserves to have success define her career, not the meltdown.
