I’m not surprised by this story at all. It honestly wouldn’t be a big deal if Justin Bieber hadn’t turned it into one. The swaggy one was forced to give out-of-court testimony at a Miami deposition in a civil suit involving his bodyguard beating up a photog. TMZ got ahold of the depo tapes, and this kid is as big of an a-hole as we all expected. We alreday talked about how Biebs stormed out in a huff when he was asked about Selena Gomez: “Don’t ask me about her again.” Then he ripped off his mic and left the building.
Who knows why asking Bieber about Selena is even relevant to the case? The lawyer tried to link Justin’s feelings about Selena to their prior discussions about paparazzi. I think they’re trying to bring up the hilarious 2012 incident where Justin got into a physical altercation with a pap. They lawyers also asked him about his discussions with Scooter Braun about paps, and the response was “No, this seems like a 16 minute interview.”
Bieber threw attitude during the entire discussion. He compared the lawyer’s questions to those of Katie Couric from 60 Minutes (?). He kept pointing at the lawyers and at one point, said, “I don’t have to listen to anything you have to say.” He claims Usher did not discover him. YouTube discovered him! Then Swag tried to say he was instrumental to his own success, but instead, it came out, “I was detrimental to my own career.”
Here are all the tapes released by TMZ. It’s basically a parade of deep breaths, noisy water drinking, and lifted eyebrows. Team Swag is on the defensive, but nothing will come of this but uncomfortable laughter.

(I am surprised the story about his body guard and driver getting stopped with a photographer’s stolen camera in their car, along with weed, hasn’t gotten more press. His driver and guard could face felony charges for that!)

If somehow I wound up in jail for a night I would be mortified if a video of me going to the bathroom became available for public consumption. Orly & Tiffany: This a deposition taken in a civil case. It isn’t a criminal case; it is over money. The depo tapes were released because, presumably, there isn’t a protective order in place preventing their release (which means Bieber’s attorney is a complete idiot for not insisting on a protective order, although he could’ve tried to get one and lost). The plaintiff released it to put heat on Bieber to pay him more money. It won’t influence the jury if this ever goes to trial because the potential jurors who have seen it will be stricken from the jury. And, no way Bieber’s attorneys lets this go to trial.

Remember legal trials, and this depo is part of his testimony – as part of discovery or the evidentiary hearing, which will determine issues at trial, are a matter of public record unless gagged by the judge in this case. It is a constitutional right to a public trial. If all criminal hearings were sealed, it is a slippery slope to closed and secret hearings and trials. That’s the reasoning behind public legal jurisprudence.
Someday he’s going to be an adult, the fame and the 12 year old devoted fans and the money and the entourage will all be gone, and he’ll be sitting in a tract home somewhere wondering where it all went wrong. This video would be a good place for him to look, not for the lawsuit but for the way he is portraying himself. You have to grow a fan base if you want to be successful. He’s got the tweens/young teens, but who over the age of 18 is a Bieber fan? People in their 20s, people in their 30s, they’re laughing at him, not buying his albums or going to his concerts.

I have a 12 year old and a 10 year old who both despise Bieber, as do their friends. My daughter read the Rolling Stone article on him and said, “I knew he was an idiot.” I know he has a fan base; I just don’t know who they are or where they live.
I was thinking about this, slightly annoyed, and then it came to me: a lot of his fans are long-time Beliebers who have created a community–full of very real friendships–based on Bieber fandom. Relationships formed at awkward ages, times when their “real-life” peers seemed scary and intimidating. I’d bet a lot of them are staying “loyal” as much–if not more– in defense of a social circle that has brought comfort and company to their lives, as in Justin Bieber himself.
It’s sad, but it makes sense.
Jackie’s right – Adding to that, the most fervent people in these groups tend to be socially awkward in a normal setting and might have trouble making/keeping friends in real life, which makes this twit seems even more appealing to them, so when they get online and obsess about their wee savior, everyone is on level ground. A lot of fanbases are like this I’ve discovered. In this respect I think it’s great that people around the world can connect.

I think his sales are tanking. His most recent album release didn’t do well and didn’t chart in many places (it was a compilation, though). His movie tanked as well. The money usually runs a few quarters behind public sentiment…it will catch up to him soon enough. I will be interested to see what his next tour would do, I am guessing he will be much less in demand.
Hopefully his mentors can prevent him from opening up too many lines of credit, which is what many in his position want to do if they have fantasies of future money coming in.

I imagine TMZ just paid the copying fees and filled out the form to get the tape. The only time confidentiality can be expected is conversations with your lawyer, your spiritual adviser, and if you’re a juvenile (under 18). Judge will put the lid on certain proceedings (divorce, child custody) but other than that- even jailhouse phone conversations, which are recorded, are considered public record and if you pay to have the tapes copied, they are yours. Hulk Hogan found that out the hard way, his conversations with his kid (who put his friend into a coma and permanent disability with his street racing) were public record and got into the media. You’re always warned you are being recorded before you start talking. I assume The Biebster’s lawyers told him this but the kid just didn’t listen. Or he did listen and decided he’d keep trying out his tough guy act.
I agree that steroids could explain a lot, although boys can change a lot very quickly. If he did go on steroids, I hope people who kept sneering that he looked and sounded like a girl or called him a lesbian feel appropriately guilty.
