L’Wren Scott, fashion designer & girlfriend to Mick Jagger, committed suicide

wenn20841853

L’Wren Scott committed suicide today. It is ridiculously sad. L’Wren was a really wonderful and talented fashion designer, and L’Wren had been happily dating Mick Jagger for more than a decade. They actually seemed like a great couple, and like they really cared about each other. I’ve read interviews with her in the past, and she always seemed so cool to me – rock n’ roll, but very sophisticated and easy-going. According to the New York Post, L’Wren hanged herself in her Manhattan apartment. For the love of…!

Mick Jagger’s ex-model girlfriend L’Wren Scott killed herself in a luxurious Manhattan apartment, police sources told The Post on Monday.

Cops found Scott, 49, hanging by a scarf inside an eighth-floor apartment at 200 11th Ave. shortly after 10 a.m. after getting a 911 call from her assistant.

It’s unclear if Scott left behind a note. There were no signs of foul play, sources said.

The 6-foot-3 brunette began dating the Rolling Stones’ frontman in 2001, and last year marked his 70th birthday by posting a vintage photo on Instagram of the rocker at age 21, wearing a pair of swim trunks, just before his band hit it big.

A spokesman for Mick Jagger, currently on tour in Australia, said the singer was “completely shocked and devastated” by Scott’s death.

The adopted daughter of Mormon parents, she was raised in a small town in Utah as Luann Bambrough.

As a teen, she was discovered by famed fashion photographer Bruce Weber and changed her name to model for Chanel and Thierry Mugler before becoming a stylist for celebrities.

She later branched out into design, and is best known for her striking “Headmistress” dress, which has been worn by Madonna and Nicole Kidman. Other fans of her form-flattering frocks include Naomi Cambell, Kate Moss, Sara Jessica Parker and Michelle Obama

[From The NY Post]

The NYDN says that the scarf was tied to a doorknob… which… my God. It seems right now that the last communication L’Wren had was with her assistant. L’Wren texted her assistant to come over 8:30 am, and the assistant arrived at 10 am and found her body. The NYDN also notes that L’Wren canceled her London Fashion Week show in February. So maybe she was struggling with some career stuff? Still… this really seems like it came out of nowhere.

Our thoughts are with L’Wren’s friends and family at this time. This reminds me so much of Alexander McQueen’s suicide in 2010. L’Wren was so talented, so beloved. This is such an enormous loss.

Daily Mail is saying she was millions in debt. Still no reason to take her own life. I’m sure Mick could have helped her.

    • Rainbows says:

Who knows if that relationship was healthy or even the state of Micks own finances. I wouldnt be surprised if theirs was a turbulent behind the scenes type of relationship. She certainly didnt believe he would help (even if we assume that her depression was driven by intrinsic factors). Thats a major sign that the relationship wasnt great or that he was unable or reluctant to step in.

      • Leonie says:

That seems like a bit of a jump. Lots of people who have partners commit suicide. I don’t think it says anything about the state of a relationship. For all we know she didn’t share her financial trouble with him, or refused his help out of pride or shame… it often seems like depression makes it harder for people tho accept help. That doesn’t mean help wasn’t offered any number of times.

        Poor woman.

      • Lyla says:

I think she was an EX, that he dumped her. Needy woman can be so clingy. I read where he dumped her and that she was an EX.

    • FLORC says:

If it was debt (and at this point we just can’t know) sometimes a person can be too proud to ask for financial help.
      Just sad.

      • Katherine says:

You’re absolutely right. Pride keeps lots of people from ever asking for help. It’s not exactly an irrational thought process. Many people you thought might help turn their backs on people they perceive as needy or not as successful as they were originally perceived. Partners who are attracted to success may be the last person you want to ask.

It is sad. But, of course, we don’t know the reasons.

      • Nerd Alert says:

This. As dark as it seems, I could see myself avoiding asking for help if worse came to worst. She is in my thoughts. Pride is the achilles’ heel of many successful persons.

      • Boodiba says:

Plus, isn’t he well known for being notoriously tight fisted?

    • Denise says:

So, you subscribe to the ‘I believe everything I read’ philosophy, and prefer baseless assumptions and oversimplification when it comes to complex and difficult issues, then?

      • Laine says:

Some women can’t handle getting older, especially the really beautiful ones who look in the mirror and see their beauty fading away. Combine that with this possible debit I’m hearing about…..and topped with possible untreated depression and it could be a recipe for a very unfortunate scenario.

    • LAK says:

Mick is a very well documented skinflint.

All the women, the official ones, have had to fight to get anything from him. we are talking court, lawyers etc. from Marsha [refused to pay child support even when she was completely broke] through to Biance and Jerry. With Jerry he actually said they weren’t married so that the payout would be reduced, nevermind that they had lived together for more than a decade and had 4 kids together at the time of their divorce.

So whatever financial problems she had, going by past behaviour, Mick wouldn’t have helped.

      • Kellie says:

He was always very cheap, wasnt he? And rumours were swirling about him sexing anything at anytime-again.
I am sure it was a bunch of things that all came together and caused her to not be able to see a way out.
Such a shame, all the vacations, money, celeb friends, homes, and private jets. Didnt make a bit of a difference.

      • Dubois says:

I was thinking this exact thing. Mick is notoriously cheap. My two cents: she knew his history, she decide to date him anyway, the cheating happened. It hurt, but she put up with it. Slowly, incrementally it gathered. Her financial troubles came around to the tune of $6 mil, and a man ( a cheap man) worth not a hundred, but hundreds of mils who she’d been with 13-14 yrs, wouldn’t help, plus he was cheating prolifically (CDAN blind), = suicide. Such a shame.

      • Nerd Alert says:

This is what I was thinking. Put yourself in her shoes. Not only is he notoriously cheap and greedy, but notoriously philandering as well. She loved him for over a decade, dedicated so much time and energy to him, and he couldn’t spare what would have been chump change in her time of need. Not to mention he most likely cheated on her left and right. I heard she refused his help for a long time. If this is true, she probably hoped he would come through when she needed him most, and that he would realize she only asked for help when she truly needed it. As an independent, self-sufficient woman, I can’t imagine finally taking the step to turn to your closest confidant in a time of need and being turned down in your darkest hour. Heartbreaking, and of course speculation, but definitely my take.

    • P.J. says:

@Iheartjacksparrow: The Daily Mail actually also had a piece on today that specifically said that L’Wren refused to take a single cent from Mick. And honestly, who can blame her? She was an enourmously talented, incredibly independent woman who built her brand from the ground up on her own. Not only was her debt not Mick’s responsibility (reportedly her entire corporation was sinking fast) but I can see why she would not want to introduce that type of pressure or dependency into their relationship.

This is all so so sad. She will be missed.

      • AmandaPanda says:

Yep she was in a bit of trouble, business wise.

Weirdly I was at her offices on Thursday and was given 4 of her samples as she was liquidating all of her stock (my v good friend was helping her wind up her business). Obv she wasn’t there. My friend is devastated – he says she was absolutely awesome.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I think we should tread REALLY lightly when trying to figure out the “why” here. Let’s not get carried away with gossip from Daily Mail. Many times the press will rush to judgement just so they can be “first” on a story.

    • Enuff Said says:

Heartbreaking…elegant, class and enormous talent gone! Bianca Jagger’s tweet sums it up! It seems like Mick had finally met ‘the one’! RIP L’Wren…

      • Kellie says:

Mick never meets “the one”. He meets the NEXT one.
Jerry Hall didnt last all those years because he was faithful-she stayed for the kids. She put up with a lot of infidelity.

    • Sarah says:

There has been speculation about the state of their relationship for some time now with rumors of Mick banging groupies again. 10 years is a lifetime for a guy like Mick. There are also reports that L’Wren was always adamant that she did not want Mick’s money nor would she accept help from him. Maybe that kept their relationship on decent footing for so long??? Regardless, very, very sad for all.

  2. Lori says:

Some of the news outlets are saying it might involve her being deeply in debt. SO sad, but financial situations can really break people.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

in my tiny city, some years ago a guy was suicided with all his familly ( his wife and his 2 children) when they’re ready to lose their house (he had a work but many debts). Anyone knew .It was a shock

  3. Hausfrau says:

This is just horribly sad, her poor family 🙁

    • Original Lee says:

My brother committed suicide last month. My heart goes out to her friends, family, and loved ones. This will be a devastating day for them and they will feel the ramifications of their loss for days, weeks, months, and years to come. I wish them solace and comfort during this difficult and horrific time. There is nothing anyone can say or do that will lessen their grief, but I’m still silently sending them good vibes and wishing them future good health and happiness.

That being said: I hope L’wren is in peace. May her demons, whatever they may be, no longer haunt her.

        My sincerest condolences to you. I hope you and your family find peace in time. {{Hugs}}

I’m so very sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family.

      • Penny says:

Original Lee – so sorry to hear of your loss. I have never personally experienced that: death of a loved one by suicide. However, I know others who have. And I am always at a loss for words. Even with any other unexpected deaths or those that leave young. This week alone several people in my life were struck with the tragic loss of a young person (30s) – and I consider L’Wren young. I don’t think I believe you are an appropriate age to die until somewhere passed 70 since on average, that’s the life expectancy – 70-80 years, although some are fortunate to live well into their 90s. Wait, I just remembered when I was in a Junior in college, one of my brother’s high school best friends died suddenly in a car accident along with 2 other passengers, leaving the driver in critical condition facing manslaughter charges. It just lets you know that whatever your situation is you need to be grateful – grateful that you are in the mindset to believe you can overcome or in circumstances that are far better than those around you who see no other way out or feel powerless – as in the case of cancer victims. Sad, just sad. Prayers and blessings to those mourning the deaths of a loved one. May our deceased find peace in the next world.

      • Tback says:

My condolences. I lost my father to suicide in 2005. It is always devastating to lose a loved one, but to lose someone in this manner is especially devastating. I too suffer from depression & sometimes have suicidal thoughts & I have 1 attempt. If you have never experienced the deepest lows that take you to a place where you consider ending your life, you can’t possibly understand. Everyone is different, but speaking from my experience, when I was that low I didn’t think, “who can help me?” I actually believed everyone I loved would be better off if I were dead. That’s the line of thinking. You don’t believe anyone can help you when you are in that state. You want the mental anguish to end.

      • Amy says:

I’m so sorry for your family’s loss. My father also died by suicide, and what Tback says is absolutely so. And any loss – L’Wren Scott included – brings back echoes of that big one in my life. There are a couple of good web sites for people in crisis – http://www.metanoia.org/suicide/ is one. Please go there, Tback, next time you’re feeling that way.

      • Kate says:

I’m so sorry to hear about the lost of your brother. We’re strangers but you don’t know how much I want to give you a big hug and just listen.

      • Zimmer says:

        So sorry for your loss.

      • Original Lee says:

Hi everyone, I know it’s late and that you may not see this message, but I want to say thank you for all of the kind words and support. My brother’s death has been worst thing that I have ever experienced. The pain of losing him and missing him is indescribable. What I wouldn’t give for one more hug, one more minute of his time. I know that no one is ever truly prepared to lose a loved one, but I am in my mid-twenties and I remember feeling incredibly young throughout the process (calling my mom to tell her, her being hospitalized in the aftermath, helping my sister in law, preparing his funeral). I think of the pain L’Wren’s loved ones are going through and the pain the people on this thread have gone through, and it makes me feel ill. There are no words to describe the suffering and grief.

Tback – I wish I could explain how much I wish you never felt like ending your life was an option. I have not been in your position, but I truly am sorry for the pain that you feel. I wish you every happiness and a long, wonderful life.

Just adding to the list of condolences and I wish for you strength, a clear conscience without guilt, and peace of heart going forward.

  4. harlemchic says:

so sad 🙁 I really loved and admired her as a designer

  5. MonicaQ says:

The DM is a rag but http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2582815/Mick-Jaggers-girlfriend-designer-LWren-Scott-commits-suicide.html the speculation was it was debt related. So so sad 🙁

  6. Milla says:

This is just so sad. I believe she was suffering from depression, why else end it like that? As for money problems, she was with Mick for 13 years, no doubt he would help her. He is a womanizer, but he was never cheap.

I am still in shock. Such a beautiful, talented, classy woman… May she rest in peace.

    • bluhare says:

When you’re that depressed, you aren’t thinking properly, and there really doesn’t look to be any way out.

I feel for her if that’s what she was going through. So sad.

      • Esmom says:

I know, it is so sad that she was in such a state that she didn’t want to or couldn’t reach out for help. I can’t imagine. RIP.

  7. Kiddo says:

Just an FYI, pulling from the other thread, the Daily Mail reports:
A tweet was posted from L’Wren’s account at 11am Eastern time, but it seems it was put up by a member of her team who was not aware she had hanged herself.

The post consisted of a link to a Tim Walker photo on L’Wren’s Facebook page and said: ‘L’Wren Loves… Tim Walker what a great #inspiration love his#photography #light #colour!’

  8. Tig says:

She was so talented! This is such a loss for her loved ones. You want to think that if she was in a financial pinch that MJ could have arranged a loan- but maybe she couldn’t /wouldn’t do that. I also feel sorry for the poor assistant- what a horrific shock.

  9. Whitney says:

An extremely sad situation. Thoughts to her friends and loved ones.

  10. Chris says:

Enty at CDAN had this as a blind just the other day. So sad.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

except the blind said it was because of Jagger’s cheating ( Jagger never was faithful of his life)
She was an independant woman.Money problem is more credible for a depression in my opinion

  11. Rhea says:

This is truly shocking. 🙁 Sending thoughts and prayer for her family and friends. May she rest in peace.

  12. Valerie says:

This makes me so sad. Was she ever on project runway because I feel like I remember her as a judge at some point.

  13. chicky says:

This is so sad..she did seem like a cool and down to earth woman and her designs were amazing.
If it was even in part due to debt and .financial troubles, i understand the vulnerability of asking for help through the long process of digging out, she must have felt she had no options and that is heartbreaking.
Suicide leaves a different kind of mark on the living who loved or just knew the person who took their own life…I wish them all healing and peace.

  14. Kaylah says:

This is so sad. I really liked her designs and everytime I saw her pictures I was always in awe of her legs. That poor assistant that found her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family & friends. So incredibly sad.

  15. Tiffany :) says:

    Very, very sad.

I wish I had the answers for how to get help to those who need it. These stories, celeb or not, are so profoundly sad.

  16. FingerBinger says:

Really sad news. There’s not much you can say when something like this happens. It sounds corny, but I hope she is at peace.

  17. TheCountess says:

THANK YOU for carrying her professional title instead of “girlfriend of Mick Jagger” as the lede (as the New York Times did with, “Girlfriend of Mick Jagger Commits Suicide”). She was an amazing designer and her loss is tragic. Yes, she was his long-time partner, but that’s hardly all she is or ever was, and deserved to be remembered as such.

If you want to see a small gallery of her work, here’s the T&L archive of designs they featured:

    http://tomandlorenzo.com/?s=L%27Wren+Scott

  18. break says:

The CDAN blind item was revealed as being about her. It’s pretty brutal and makes it sound like Mick had recently begun to cheat on her relentlessly. Now that he’s overseas getting ready for a tour, it’s not really surprising (he’s mick jagger!). Maybe that, combined with the debt was too much to handle. Having said that, I’m not really familiar with that website. How reliable is it?

    • Tiffany :) says:

On that site, some of it is true and some of it is completely made up. It swings both ways.

      • bluhare says:

Well, in this case it appears he was right. At least about the depressed part.

      • TheCountess says:

Exactly. Once in a while a “psychic” gets it right too, but for every correct thing they say (or speculate about), there’s a thousand that have no relation to reality.

    • Lark says:

ENTY is a sick POS who has accused a very charitable woman here in L.A., full name and all, of being an abusive madam hooking out young, underage girls. He’s also accused people of rape and incest, and it’s incredibly disrespectful to real victims of sexual assault. He’s not reliable at all (tweaks previous blinds, etc.) but he gets away with it because of his disclaimer…Here’s an article on him. I hate that things like this give him a tiny bit of credibility.

      http://nypost.com/2012/04/01/how-crazy-days-and-nights-fooled-hollywood/

I think Mick Jagger is probably a jerk, but it’s sick for people to accuse him of being a cause of her suicide. I follow fashion, and there have been insinuations for years that she suffered from depression or was bi-polar. Add in being in debt because of her business, and I could see how this happened. She also recently cancelled her fashion week because of the rumors of all her business troubles.

      • bluhare says:

I’m with you about the sick POS part. He posts blinds about assault and child abuse. If he is getting tips, he should be calling the police not posting them online.

And I bet he really regrets the wording of the blind about L’Wren now.

      • lisa2 says:

Can people STOP bring up the stuff on that disgusting site as poof of anything..

        goodness.

      • Lemon says:

Not defending the CDAN guy, but just hearing a rumor about abuse in most states generally gives one little-no standing to actually make a report. (I am a mandated reporter for my job and have had to learn the laws of various states I practice in.) I don’t think most CPS agencies would or even could take such a report. And the police are generally even worse than CPS in terms of handing child abuse allegations with any degree of appropriateness or sensitivity.

Not to mention, there is personal liability in some states if the report is ultimately unfounded (unless you are a mandated reporter, the parents can sue you for making a false report). So I don’t necessarily blame him for not calling the police, but publishing the blinds is in bad taste.

      • don't kill me i'm french says:

        @Lemon:
I’m nurse and in my country(France), all suspicion of child abuse must be reported to the police.

      • Bridget says:

Not only is CDAN crap, but for that kind of blind to be true we’d have to believe that anyone would go into a relationship with Mick Jagger expecting monogamy. Let alone Mick Jagger on tour.

    • Hiddles forever says:

It is not reliable at all.

    • Milla says:

hope she did not kill herself over Mick. he is a womanizer, period. She was still gorgeous, slim, and people liked her. Its not like Mick was the only one. Biana Jagger and Jerry Hall have kids with him, but they didnt kill themselves over his adventures.

      • Marlo T says:

I never knew much about this woman but she appears beautiful and creative. I would have to say (and I speak from a similar demographic) being a middle aged businesswoman with a failing business, unmarried, no kids, former model and probably entering menopause with a philandering boyfriend is not exactly a peak life experience. Endurable, but not the peak. It is extremely sad that she took her own life. Just tragic and I hope she is resting in peace. What I find most strange is that her boyfriend was totally surprised – that is he had no clue that she was so unhappy. If he was with he for so long did he ever pay attention to her? I believe he is a very self absorbed man and his years in the spotlight have left him blinded by it.

    • break says:

Thanks for all the replies. Given that it’s an internet blog, I didn’t give it much credence. But after reading your comments, I’ll avoid that site like the plague!

    • MynameisPeaches! says:

I know I read the original blind which was posted on March 13th on his blog. It seems pretty accurate. The poor woman must have been going through a lot not only with Mick’s alleged cheating ( which isn’t a surprise) but also the dire state of her fashion company. According to reports she was six million dollars in debt.

      • FingerBinger says:

That blind is deliberately vague it could, literally,be about anyone.

      • Lark says:

The blind was supposed to be about her but it was careful guesswork and had a hint of truth…that’s how CDAN gets away with snowing people. He’s wrong 95% of the time, but 5% of the time he has a hint of truth because he just does careful guess work. It’s been insinuated for years that L’Wren suffered from depression and or some form of mental illness. There have been rumblings on the fashion blogs that despite her new line that she was having financial troubles. She canceled a fashion week appearance and hasn’t been showing up at any of the shows in Paris–––knowing her past history and her problems, it seemed likely she was having issues. I even thought she may be having issues since she hasn’t been “out” lately at any of the fashion weeks and she didn’t show up at the Chanel d’Metiers event in Dallas (she’s tight with Karl). CDAN just wrote it down, but there was a bunch of circumstantial evidence where people could have come to the same conclusions….He decided to blame Mick because he knows the two were likely in an open relationship imo, which is incredibly unfair because you can’t blame Mick for her being mentally ill and depressed even if he was an asshole bf.

    • Erin says:

Reading gossip and automatically believing it as truth is very limiting. She had been with Mick for 13 years. Just because some “blind item” says something, doesn’t make it an actual fact. He is in Australia, getting ready for some concerts, which might not happen now. He seems very devastated and it’s unfair to make accusations that seem are so hurtful.

  19. Tia says:

Mick Jagger is actually notoriously cheap when it comes to his women – ask Bianca or Jerry or the mother of his daughter. I suspect the reason their relationship worked was because they kept that area separate. If she was depressed and not thinking straight, she might have been afraid for her relationship as well

    • hunaww says:

Actually he is not cheap. He dated Janice Dickinson in the past and she wrote in her memoir that he once bought her a jewelry worth a house. He lavished her with expensive presents.

  20. lisa2 says:

So sad for her family.. and so sad for her assistant that was called to find her. I don’t understand how she did that.

You never know what people are going through. Never know what can push them to that point.

  21. Lark says:

Very sad. I remember reading years ago in some fashion magazine or blog insinuations that she was “troubled.” I took it as an insinuation that she suffered from depression or some sort of mental illness. She also had a lot of financial troubles and her business was falling apart, and she recently cancelled her fashion week appearance. Mental illness can be a terrible struggle, and then add business problems on top of it? Especially because her business was supposedly her life……I feel terrible for her friends, family, and Mick.

  22. Hiddles forever says:

    Poor lady. RIP.

  23. Frida_K says:

Such a shame. May she find peace, wherever she is now, and condolences to the loved ones she left behind.

  24. Liberty says:

My god, how sad. I am truly shocked.

  25. chauncey says:

This is such sad and shocking news. She seemed like such a cool, sweet and talented lady. I feel for all her friends and family. And even though Mick probably did cheat on her (numerous times I’m sure) and was a stingy (I heard that too), he probably loved her in his own way.

  26. lucy2 says:

What a sad situation. My sympathies to her loved ones, and especially her assistant – what a traumatic thing to go through.

  27. Tulip says:

Her designs were beautiful. My condolences to her friends and family

  28. Mingy says:

how awful!..i hate to state the obvious but wow, she must have been suffering so much under the pressure. so sad.

  29. littlestar says:

She was such a beautiful woman, and her designs were timeless. RIP.

    • Christin says:

Agree. She apparently had a strong work ethic and her designs were some of the better ones out there. Such a sad ending.

Apparently she did a holiday line for B. Republic last year. It would have been wonderful if she could have parlayed her design talent into more mainstream efforts. Clothing choices today seem to be either matronly or too trendy/youth-oriented. We need a middle ground of timeless and not frumpy (or too revealing). She seemed to understand that balance.

    • nicegirl says:

I agree. This is very sad. RIP.

  30. Palermo says:

I’ve seen a few recent blinds that an aging rocker was cheating madly on his long time girlfriend, implication was it was Mick.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

Jagger always is/was unfaithful ,she was an independant woman.
a money problem and a depressive mood is a more credible reason of her suicide.

Her suicide is a waste of talent.I hope she’s in peace

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m not aiming this at you at all, Palermo, I know you’re just passing along information, but I think it’s so cruel when these outlets imply that MJ caused her death. Sad as it is, she made the choice.

  31. lucy says:

She was lovely and I am saddened, and shocked, that this occurred. L’Wren created beautiful fashions, very flattering. This is a tragedy.

  32. Suze says:

I loved loved loved her designs. One of the few designers I consistently admire. She was so very talented.

I am sorry about this news.

  33. Talie says:

She was pretty much Nicole Kidman’s personal stylist for *years* — that’s how I became familiar with her work, outside of the Mick relationship. So shocking.

  34. Suki2 says:

A talented designer and a nice person. Such sad news.

  35. gg says:

IF Mick was in fact cheating on her, I hope he really takes a look at himself and his behavior. He has left a hell of a lot of fallout with a lot of women and his children in the past over his inability to turn it down. Poor lady. 🙁 I just can’t believe she’s gone.

    • don't kill me i'm french says:

Mick Jagger is known as swinger and never was faithful of his life. His alleged cheating as reason of her suicide is just… She’s not a teen,he was not the center of her life!

      Whatever RIP L’Wren

      • Merritt says:

So what if he was a known cheater? Being a a known cheater doesn’t mean that a person can’t reflect on their actions and how they treat people in their life.

I doubt that she killed herself because of Mick. It seems that she had serious depression issues. I feel sad for her family.

      • gg says:

I never said it was a good idea to kill yourself over Mick Jagger. How do you know he wasn’t the center of her life?

One would assume the 4ucker could keep it in his pants at some point in his life, he’s 70, ffs. Cheating is cheating and everybody knows it’s bad and causes a hell of a lot of hurt, especially when partners have been together for 12 years.

Never too late to change when you’re a jerk.

      • don't kill me i'm french says:

        @gg @Merritt
my point is to write she was depressive because of him is gross.
They didn’t live together,he was not interested by the marriage and their relation was not exclusive .
The one true point in the blind is that she’s depressive (even the reason of her deleted fashion show is untrue)

apparently it was soon the end of her business http://radaronline.com/exclusives/2014/03/lwren-scott-suicide-mick-jagger-girlfriend-hanged-millions-debt-embarrassed/

        OMG what waste of talent!

      • gg says:

I’ll repeat what I put below: I do not infer that Mick caused this terrible tragedy. Thank you.

    • Lilacflowers says:

gg, people commit suicide because they choose to do so; nobody else is to blame. Mick Jagger is not to blame for L’wren Scott’s tragic decision to take her own life. We are all responsible for our own decisions in this life. Mick Jagger is probably grieving right now and he has my sympathy; as do the family members of all those who commit suicide.

      • gg says:

No, I don’t think he caused it at all! I am saying he needs to stop being that way. It can’t have helped. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be in his shoes right now. My heart grieves for them all and I am in shock.

  36. Kathryn says:

Another amazing talent dead through suicide. So sad. I feel so sorry for her not feeling that she could reach out to others and I feel sorry for Mick. I thought they were a great couple together I thought he’d finally gout a stable, equal relationship. 🙁

  37. Kathryn says:

Another amazing talent dead through suicide. So sad. I feel so sorry for her not feeling that she could reach out to others and I feel sorry for Mick. I thought they were a great couple together I thought he’d finally found happiness in a stable, equal relationship. 🙁

  38. Kathryn says:

Sorry about double post above! Just been reading Daily Mail and it seems it was related to her worsening financial situation. Seems that she always kept her finances separate from Mick she must have felt too proud to ask for help. How awful.

  39. Camille (The Original) says:

Such awful and sad news :(.

  40. ol cranky says:

” scarf was tied to a doorknob”

ummm, if that’s the case and there was no suicide note, it sounds like auto-erotic asphyxia gone awry instead of suicide

    • TG says:

I was wondering how a 6’3″ person hangs themselves from a doorknob. How is that possible? It is sad though for her. I sometimes fantasize about killing myself because I see no way out if my current situation but I don’t think I have it in me and I don’t want to leave my daughter motherless. I feel for her and her family. If Mick was sleeping around I don’t see any reason to be sympathetic to him. What would he be grieving over?

      • Kathryn says:

@TG please talk to someone if youre feeling this way. I hope you have someone that you can confide in there is a way out of every situation even if it doesnt always seem it! big hugs to you!

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

        TG
It gets better. My bff has feelings very similar to yours and, like you, doesn’t want to leave her daughters. Please understand that, though I don’t know you, this world would be different if you weren’t here. You have value and your life is part of something bigger. Just hang in there until things make more sense. Its like the butterfly effect: something you do or say influences something or someone else and so on and so on until ultimately something wonderful happens that can be traced back to you. It could be a nurse cheering up a cancer patient, a steanger in Hong Kong or Spain meeting her true love or your great grandchildren curing breast cancer. Just hang in there. Talk to someone – a professional, an anonymous hotline or a good friend. Take time to relax, change your environment for an hour or so each day. Grab a juicy apple and take a brisk ten minute walk. Read novels/newspapers/magazines to seniors or the blind. Do something for you – but do something!
        *hugs*

      • lucy says:

@TG, please know that it matters that you are here, and know that however distraught you may feel at times, there is also light and love for you that you may not see or feel in that moment, but is here, to be found. Nourish your spirit. Life is messy and heavy but there is also wonder and hope, and help for when you can’t quite find the good foot. Been there, been back, and my thoughts are with you.

This message goes out to anyone feeling despair. Hold on. Hold on.

    • ol cranky says:

@TG I agree with everyone else. I suffered from a major depressive disorder and attempted suicide multiple times (a million years ago). Find a therapist that you are comfortable talking to and can be honest with; if you are not comfortable with the person, find someone better suited to you. If you are prescribed any medication, make sure that it is taken in conjunction with therapy and that the person who prescribed them to you gives you realistic expectations of what to expect from pharmacological intervention – meds will help even you out but don’t make you better, therapy working through your issues is first line treatment and is critical to improvement (I say this as someone with a mental health history and who has worked on the development of drugs for schizophrenia).

  41. jane16 says:

What a tragedy. She was so talented, and one of the few middle aged beauties to age naturally. She had a dazzling smile. Also, she was the only celebrity stylist/designer I ever really like. So sad.
    RIP L’Wren.

  42. Tippy says:

Six-foot-three and she decides to hang herself from a doorknob? Sounds a tad suspicious to me.

    • boo says:

@Tippy – I agree with you. How does a 6’3″ woman hang herself on a doorknob?

      • Dubois says:

I saw it posted somewhere that the person kneels with their neck tied to the doorknob, then kind of stretches out. I read it is a slow and painful way to go 🙁

    • Kathryn says:

You don’t need to hang yourself from a high point to strangle yourself. I know as my best friends boyfriend did the same thing, simply by leaning forward until cutting off the air supply. Sorry to go into graphic detail but I think it’s a common misconception.

      • Tippy says:

Ordinarily basic survival instinct would take over and a person would do whatever possible in order to breath. It seems like a very unreliable method of suicide and a convenient way to cover up a murder by strangulation.

    • Lilacflowers says:

You can hang yourself while lying down on your bed or the floor. The term “hanging” comes into play because of the ligature around the neck, cutting off the air supply. People in prisons commit suicide this way frequently. This is why people are supposed to keep children’s bedding clear of all objects that could become entangled around the child’s neck during sleep.

    • Kathryn says:

@Tippy its very common. as lilacflowers said it can be done on a bed or on the floor. i worked in a prison for ten years and can assure you when somebody wants to kill themselves they will find a way. sad but true.

  43. Alyce says:

This is terribly sad. My thoughts are with her friends/ family.

  44. Aria says:

    Sad news.

  45. Lilacflowers says:

So very sad. May she rest in peace. May those she leaves behind find comfort in their memories.

  46. P.J. says:

This is undoubtedly a terribly tragic event and the world has lost yet another incredible talent far too soon in an entirely preventable way. L’Wren and her beautiful work will be terrible missed.

That said, to all of the commenters who are suggesting that: 1. The massive debt tied to L’Wren’s corporation (which was reportedly sinking incredibly fast-who knew?) should have somehow become Mick Jagger’s responsibility (the hell?) or 2. That somehow if he would have just “given her” the money necessary that she would not have taken her own life, SHAME ON YOU.

Not only is suicide an incredibly complicated issue that even those closest to the ones lost to it can barely even begin to scratch the surface of, to imply that her boyfriend should have taken on all-or any-of the financial burdens tied to HER business and life a d that he’s somehow to blame for her passing is unforgivable.

Since when is a boyfriend/girlfriend somehow morally or ethically responsible for taking on our personal financial burdens? I’m glad I’m not dating some of you! Geez.

Can we all just focus on the fact that this woman took her own life which is sad enough on its own without making it about the big “bad man” who didn’t rescue her??
In any case, The Daily Mail has a piece up today that specifically points out that L’Wren ALWAYS refused to take a since cent from Mick. And honestly, why should she have? She was an incredibly talented, fiercely independent woman who built her own business from the ground up. RIP Ms. Scott 🙁

  47. kibbles says:

Committing suicide over debt…incredibly sad. She had the talent, name brand, and connections to eventually overcome that financial hurdle. A lot of people don’t even have anyone or anything to turn to. It’s too bad. Someone who seemingly had it all felt like no one could help her.

    • Tiffany :) says:

It should be noted, people are ASSUMING that debt was the cause of it. There is no reason to make this claim, as at this point the public is being told there was no note. People are guessing that was the reason, but they do not KNOW that was the reason.

  48. Violet says:

I’m just speechless. I can’t believe she is gone, RIP. She will be miss a great deal.

  49. vava says:

oh god, this is tragic. I luffed her and her fashion designs. RIP, L’Wren. So sorry to read this. I’m very sorry for Mick and his extended family, too. 🙁

  50. arial says:

    Depression does not discriminate.

    • Size Does Matter says:

I was coming here to say the same thing. Talk, short, fat, fit, rich, poor, beautiful, or plain. Depression can get anybody. And it can make life seem unbearable.

  51. oscar mitchell says:

Don’t try to guess “why” someone commits suicide

  52. Kosmos says:

The reasons for this could be complicated, not just one particular thing. She came so far with her creativity and made a mark for herself, it’s such a shame to end in this way. She appears to be be a strong and confident woman. If it was just money, there are ways to handle this kind of thing and pay off debt, or borrow–death is really not an option unless you are really unhappy or helpless. She could have downsized her lifestyle, certainly, and who knows what else….if she was with an unfaithful man, this could have contributed, but we don’t know the truth about this. There is also something called clinical depression, so we are all speculating a bit here about the causes. Only those who really know her would be privy to this, and maybe it will all come out soon, but so sad and senseless….

  53. joanne e says:

Terrible thing to happen. But, Mick Jagger has been a basta_d to every woman who ever got involved with him. The constant cheating and unwillingness to marry or pay spousal and/or child support. He seems like a truly rotten guy, but he must be extremely charming because so many beautiful and talented women get sucked in and then hurt by him.

    • eliza says:

It is NOT Mick Jagger’s fault. You have zero idea on the reasons for her taking her own life. Comments like this are ridiculous.

There are millions of men like Jagger in the world, if you are going to go this route. Not every woman kills themselves over a bad romance. Suicide is not the fault of anyone.

    • smee says:

I’ve read similar things about his as well – he’s notoriously cheap. Didn’t he fight it out with Jerry Hall over a house (that she was still living in)? You would think by 70 he might realize that he has enough money to make it until he dies………

  54. Aurelia says:

Suicide/mental bfreakdowns are never brought on by just one factor. Its always a combination. Except of course those guys who lose their fortune and then lept of a building. Its pretty cut and dried then.

  55. Clara says:

I’m really disappointed in the way you’ve chosen to cover this tragedy. Reporting of suicide can increase rates of suicide. There was no need to discuss method, or to discuss why she took her life. Humans are complex and fragile, and nobody makes decisions as small as what to eat for dinner without a range of influences – why on earth would you imagine you could ever figure out one motive for someone taking their own life?

I KNOW this information is out there elsewhere, but readers to your site often will not be going out in search of other media coverage of this story, and you have a responsibility to do what’s in your power to keep your readers safe. Regardless, you could have at least put links to suicide prevention websites and helplines in this story.

As you can see from your comments, some of your readers will have been personally affected by suicide. This puts them at a greater risk of taking their own lives, and graphic stories like this can be triggering. Others have been triggered, and are discussing their own thoughts of suicide. They should at least know where to go to get help.

I hope you take the time to learn about the pitfalls of reporting on suicide, and try to do better in future.

    • Kiddo says:

I realize your heart in in the right place and you make valid points, and I don’t know where you live, but if it is in NYC, this news was/is unavoidable. Why not post some links to help-lines, yourself? It wouldn’t be frowned upon.

  56. SamiHami says:

It may have been debt related, but I’ve read other articles that talk about a new cosmetics and perfume line she has coming out with Bobbi Brown and a couple of other deals that would have been lucrative. If that is so, then this debt that she has could well have been just a brief rough spot, but with light at the end of the tunnel.

Regardless of the reasons (and a depressed person doesn’t need a real reason; I know with my own struggles with depression that dark thoughts can intrude even during times when everything is seemingly good in life), it’s a terrible shame and I’m so sorry for her family and friends.

  57. eliza says:

I did not read the comments on here (too many, sorry) but on other sites people are laying this at Mick Jagger’s feet, which is totally and utterly unfair. Whether he was faithful or not (no one knows but the people in the relationship) has nothing to do with HER committing suicide. Suicide is a desperate act by a person with some degree of mental illness.

This is a very tragic ending to a life of a very talented woman, who by all accounts was also a very sweet person. My heart goes out to her family, friends and design community.

I loved her clothes an am fortunate to own a couple of her LBD’s.

    Rest in peace L’Wren.

  58. cat says:

With all her smarts she should have dumped Jagger and used her money helping others not wallowing in pity that she was a failure due to money lose or jaggar meanness. Am sure he didn’t care about her and she was just a prop like every other person in his life. She must have been a druggie and totally weak.

    • Kiddo says:

It sounds like you might need a trip to the empathy store; you seem dangerously low on rations.

  59. Christina says:

Debt may have been the trigger, but more than likely she had bigger issues. Emotional and mental issues. To anyone looking for reasons to blame Mick, that is just nasty. He very well may be the worst bf on the planet…but he did not cause this. She had to already have it in her to attempt suicide. If everyone who had a shitty significant other killed themselves…myself and many would be dead right now. We can speculate all we want but the truth is no one will ever know the real reasons or what was going through her mind. Sometimes even if a note is left…it doesn’t answer the almost unanswerable, “Why?”. While I do feel sympathy for those with mental illness…my own personal experience has led me to feel like suicide is very selfish. That is easy for me to say than for it to be true…but it is just how I feel from my experience with it. Either way, regardless of how I feel…this is a very tragic story. RIP L’Wren.

  60. Jimmy T says:

I agree with the comments that this sounds like an auto-erotic asphyxiation episode gone awry, the same thing that happened to David Carradine, Michael Hutchence, and others. It is difficult to believe that a 6’3″ woman would attempt to kill herself by tying a scarf around her neck and attaching it to a door knob. And 6 million in debt? That’s “lunch money” to Mick Jagger, and I find it equally difficult to believe he would not have given it to her had she asked.

  61. Einstein DeGenreres says:

sounds like auto-erotic asphyxiation to me. how could someone that tall die by hanging from a scarf off a doorknob??

  62. Angela Payne says:

This really sounds like auto-erotic asphyxiation to me.

She was a very independent woman and she knew Jagger would probably not be faithful. She seemed to be okay with this. They always looked very happy together.

Her company had some financial stress but she had way too much going for her to have committed suicide. People who practice auto-erotic asphyxia often become very compulsive about it when they are under stress – as she was.

And a door knob? Do people who plan to hang themselves really consider doorknobs? Being so tall she would have had trouble finding a way to hang herself and if she did commit suicide I imagine she didn’t want to be disfigured or found with her neck broken … so that could explain why she was found kneeling at the doorknob. But doors and doorknobs are very popular with the auto-erotic asphyxia crowd. And I would think an L-shaped doorknob, like the one she used, might be favored. Seems like they might turn and release if the rope/scarf were rigged just right and enough weight were put on them – like when the person collapsed. Of course, accidents sometimes happen to people who never intended to die.

She called her assistant at 8:30 and told her to be there at 10:00. She was either very determined and resolute that she would complete the act quickly … or she simply planned to have a good morning orgasm before she started her day.

Like I said, I think it seems more like AEA. I could be wrong. But I don’t think I am.
