Hope Solo is one hot mess of a professional soccer star. The media loved her at the 2012 Olympics in London when she led the U.S. team to a gold medal. Hope now plays soccer professionally for the Seattle Reign FC, but her private life is shambolic. In 2012, she and her then-fiancé, NFL star Jerramy Stevens, ended up in a scuffle during a party at their home. He was arrested for allegedly assaulting Hope, who decided not to press charges against Jarramy and instead married him the next day. How romantic.
I’m surprised we haven’t heard any gossip about Hope or Jeremy for nearly two years, but Hope has found herself in the midst of another domestic violence incident. This time she was arrested after allegedly hitting her sister and nephew during another rager at the Solo-Stevens residence:
Soccer star Hope Solo was arrested overnight for allegedly striking her sister and her nephew at the Kirkland home she shares with her husband, former NFL player Jerramy Stevens, according to police.
Solo is listed in the registry at the SCORE misdemeanor jail in South King County as Hope Amelia Stevens. She is being held without bail for two counts of investigation of fourth-degree domestic-violence assault. Police say Solo, 32, got into an argument with the relatives during a family gathering.
Kirkland police Lt. Mike Murray said this morning that officers were called to the home because of an assault and a noise disturbance. “There was a big party going on at her house. It was an out-of-control situation,” Murray said. At some point during the party, Solo allegedly assaulted her sister and her nephew, he said. “There were visible injuries on them.”
Solo is the goalkeeper for the Seattle Reign FC. She has also played on two gold-medal winning Olympic women’s teams and appeared on TV’s “Dancing with the Stars.” In November, 2012, her then-boyfriend Stevens was arrested for allegedly assaulting Solo; a stun gun was reportedly used to break up the altercation. Stevens, who played college football for the University of Washington, was released because of insufficient evidence in the case. He was never charged.
Update: Kirkland Police Department Patrol Units responded to a 911 call of a disturbance in the 10600 block of 124th AVE NE. The male caller stated that a female at the residence was “hitting people” and they could not get her to stop or to leave the house. Officer arrived and immediately heard the sounds of the disturbance inside the residence.
They entered and contacted several persons; one being Hope A Stevens (Solo) who appeared intoxicated and upset. As officers made contact, they observed visible injuries on Solo’s 17-year-old nephew and on Solo’s sister. After receiving statements of the persons involved, Officers determined that Solo was the primary aggressor and had instigated the assault.

Hope was arrested on 2 counts of domestic violence. She’s being held without bail (which seems telling) and has a mandatory court appearance on Monday.
The Seattle Reign FC released a statement: “We are aware of the situation regarding Hope Solo and are currently gathering information. We have no further comments at this time.” U.S. Soccer has also issued a no-comment statement. The Reign will play without Solo on Sunday night. The team is so far undefeated this season, but they’ll be missing a goalkeeper on Sunday because she (allegedly) can’t keep her fists to herself.

@ohdear: she’s had a pretty messed up childhood… but she has consistently made bad choices as an adult. For example, she notonly did she choose to marry Stevens (as mentioned downthread, he has had some very nasty allegations out there about him, as well as at least one DUI), but the public found out about their relationship after the police were called to their home and Stevens was arrested for domestic violence himself. She is also reportedly incredibly difficult to deal with, and an unpleasant lady along with being a drama magnet.

Yea it kinda seems that they are made for each other, or she is the one with the actual rage issues. Makes sense seeing how out of control she really is now. When people were like “why did she marry him?”, well, this is why.
This refers to a prior altercation the day before she married Stevens. He was arrested. They had to be subdued with stun guns. Next day they got married per plans already set. These hot headed athletes. I think girl has either a mental problem or is alchoholic. I live nearby.
@someone says – I agree and I also remember that she failed a drug test before the Olympics and used the bs excuse of it was something in her medicine for menstral cramps given to her by her doctor. The same BS excuse all female athletes use who want to cheat. Blame your female parts so that no one can question you. Some athletes who want to cheat also come up with diseases like narcoplepsy and such to get away with taking drugs. It is pretty incredible how many athletes have “conditions” which require drugs that may contain banned substances. IMO she should have been banned from the 2012 Olympics and that is because I take a hard line on drugs.

YUP. It was so absurdly awful, it still disgusts me the way that administration just made it go away. And then when people asked Solo about it (a couple of years ago) she tried to say people just didn’t have all the facts… not the case at all. Does anyone remember that the only reason that people found out about Stevens and their courthouse wedding was because he was arrested for domestic violence and he was described as her fiance in the court documents.
Hope Solo is just a mess, I am so disappointed she’s essentially the face of US women’s soccer.

To be devil’s advocate on the steroid front for a moment…
You can be this way without steroids. As an athlete you can be put above others. Told you’re special. Be treated like gold. That builds a complex and you’re never the same after. Your ego is huge from all that attention and you were praised for being physical. Being physical becomes your only assest. They didn’t get famous and wealthy because they could reason with people well.
I think her family and childhood played a role along with her years of training.

Um I’m pretty sure most of these types of assaults happen as a result of ALCOHOL and personal problems. There are plenty of violent assholes who aren’t athletes.

I don’t know why people always say “rehab” anytime drugs or alcohol is involved. I don’t know her complete history but the instances I know of seem more like anger issues than substance abuse.
Because “rehab” is nicer to say instead of psych ward. That goes back to how it’s less of a stigma to hear someone has a drug addiction than a mental illness.
Also, hear this a lot when people claim they were drunk when they got violent. Because the alcohol made them violent and they aren’t violent because they have that part of their personality.

Think it’s because she got arrested on Friday night and there’s no judge on the weekend to set bail. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, though.
I think being held without bail is policy in DV cases in Seattle. They cannot be bailed out before seeing a judge. So her case is not especially notable in that regard.

She is probably held without bail either because you can’t contact a bail office or get a bail hearing/arraignment on the weekend. There is no way she would be stuck in jail until a trial, that would take months
Remember when she was on Dancing With the Stars? She later accused Maks of hitting her. I think she wrote about it in her book, if I am not mistaken.
She’s troubled, to say the least.
I’m no fan of Hope, but Maks – on camera – became angry with her and was very rough with her. He did it in front of other people, and she simply remained silent and looked down. I don’t remember her ever complaining. In fact, a lot of his fans (including me) were sickened by his behavior. She has since returned and sat in the audience in support of Maks.
I don’t recall her story in detail, but her father served some time in jail. That fact, combined with her non-reaction to Maks’ violence, led me to believe she grew up in a violent household. In this incident, police considered her the “primary aggressor”, which means someone else was getting violent. They also determined she was the instigator.
He never hit her, as she claimed he had.
In her book, she claimed that Maks hit her so hard on the stomach she had a red hand print for the rest of the day. Maks denied it.
Her entire life and extended family is one big dysfunction. Doesn’t give her a pass, she needs to own up to her behavior and chose the non-violent path. Doubt that she will though.
Her family is definitely dysfunctional, but she’s still the one that chose to marry that nasty piece of work Stevens.
I wonder if there is alcoholism involved – it seems people who engage in drinking every day and act out on their loved ones often ‘forget’ what they did because they were ‘drunk’ so it seems like drinking, in their mind, gives them a free pass – nasty behaviors repeated over and over and no remorse or even acknowlegement.
It could be any kind of substance abuse, but yeah, there is definitely a link between substance abuse and domestic abuse, whether it’s physical, emotional, or otherwise.

That is one big piece of DV stereotype. My father never drank at all, never did drugs. He was a heck of an abuser, a monster (his parents, my grandparents, were perfectly normal).
Alcohol or drugs shouldn’t be taken as an excuse for violent behaviour, abusers are born that way, no excuses of any kind.
My father was also quite abusive and did not have a problem with drugs or alcohol. He had a rage problem, and he vented his rage on his immediate family.
An alternative to the fake orange tans – invest in a juicer – juice up some carrotts – use the pulp and pat onto the skin – voila orange!
She and her husband have been at my husband’s bar before. I understand they were both sloppy but she was loud and confrontative and was to tougher one to deal with. The arrest for him happened like 1-2 weeks after. Ugh. Who hits your nephew?
