Even though I think Taylor Swift is a very strange bird, one of my favorite parts of Swifty’s life these days is her friendship with Ed Sheeran. They’ve collaborated on some songs, they’ve toured together, they’ve done shows together, and they seem to have some sort of genuine friendship. It’s not just one of her weird playdates – they are genuine friends who care about each other. Swifty even made Ed a special needlepoint based on a Drake lyric – go here to see. It’s a “Started From the Bottom Now We’re Here” needlepoint and Ed hangs it proudly in his home, as revealed in Ed’s recent MTV documentary. So when Ed was interviewed by Time Mag, they asked him about his friendship with Swifty. His answer was priceless.
When Ed Sheeran talked to TIME for this week’s issue, the full conversation ranged from his go-to karaoke song (“Pony” by Ginuwine) and what will happen to his puppet alter ego for his “Sing” video (it will be used again, and then he’ll eventually keep it at home in a display box), to dealing with a break up (writing a song beats crying at home) and worrying that his album will leak (if it happened to Kanye, it could happen to anyone). And, of course, the infamous Drake-lyric needlepoint.
Time: Did you make Taylor Swift anything in return for the Drake needlepoint?
Sheeran: No, but I’m not a very crafty sort of person. She’s very crafty.Obviously.
I know she’s 24 but she’s a sort of middle-aged woman trapped in a 24-year-old’s body. She hangs out with her cat and sews things.How old are you, at heart?

It just depends on what I’m doing. If I’m working it’s usually pretty spot-on for work, but if I’m with my friends and the clock’s off I’ll go back to being young.
Yeah, I like Swift more now that I know she makes Drake-lyric needlepoints for her famous friends. It’s actually sort of adorable and yes, cat-ladyish. I don’t think Taylor is a middle-aged woman stuck in a 24-year-old’s body. There aren’t that many middle-aged women who needlepoint Drake lyrics, you know? I think Taylor has the soul of a 88-year-old cat lady who loves antiquing, kitty cats and needlepointing. She loves nothing more than to find a piece of antique lace. That’s not middle-aged – she’s a senior citizen, stuck in a 20-something body.

Taylor seems more like a 12 year old and in an 88 year old trapped inside of her. The old woman is dominate but the 12 year old shows her meangirl side once in a while.
Yeah, I thought she was more like a 12 year old in a 24 year old body. I used to do all sorts of crafts when I was 5, 8, 12, OK I still do and I’m pushing 60, but it’s not an old lady thing. They just don’t teach it in schools like they used to.
Yeah, I think this is a friend trying to fight back against the common thought that Swifty is immature for her age.
Seriously, 10-12 year olds love crafting and hanging out with their cat, too.

I’m really trying to like Ed Sheeran. I am. But I don’t know if its him that brings up Taylor during every interview or the media. I wish whoever it was would stop. While I believe their friendship is genuine, I don’t need to hear about it everyday that I read about Ed.
+ infinity points. I am lucky to have been a fan of Ed Sheeran before he broke out in the US but now I am getting sick of Taylor being mentioned anytime he does an interview. He’s an individual and his music is so different from hers.
I cant hate on Taylor Swift. I came of age during the Britney/ “X-tina” era and so I think Taylor is relatively harmless.

I am not a huge fan of Taylor’s music but I will take her any day over the Britney/Christina hey day nonsense.
Nothing wrong with Swift or her choices of pets or hobbies. Better than acting a drunken fool clubbing, falling down drunk with your junk hanging out or making a pee porno and getting attention that way.

@emily Although I’m more of the artist-drinking-dancing-clovered in glitter kind of woman, I was going to say I’m 24 and plenty of my friends like crafts and cats. I love antiques and my two pet rabbits Houdini & Bambi so I don’t see what’s so odd about Taylor Swift. Although I usually don’t. It seems to either reflect qualities I see in women around me (Frankie- an Australian magazine is all about crafts & cute cats) or run of the mill celebrity behavior like a high profile romantic life. I can understand not liking her music, I just don’t get the gist of the rest of the commentary about her.

Handcraft is something to be proud of. Not everyone has the talent and patience to create something with his own hands. It also makes you relaxed after a hard day.

I love Ed!! But I doubt he pointed that out as a bad thing.
Love crafty Swifty but also remember the beating Blake Lively used to take on cb when it came to her baking and cooking. I’m not saying anyone currently commenting here said anything bad, just comparing responses in general. Says more about the boxes we put women in than anything else, imo.
We all had the pitch forks out for Blake because we believed that she was a gold digger because of DiCaprio and a homewrecker who was luring Affleck away from Dimples with banana nut bread. So stories of her baking, wanting a domestic life and goofing around with her and Ryan’s dogs induced massive eyerolls. Reeks of madonna/whore syndrome although lighthearted enough on the surface. Swifty has figured out that satisfying the version of appropriate femininity that many endorse pays handsomely and provides critical social armor. I don’t mind so much because I think she’s sincere. But still…the world needs Demi Lovatos as well, you know? In fact sometimes the Swifts of the world are the Lovatos when no one is looking and vice versa.
I do love Taylor’s dress but her style/look is so rigid. I always feel like I’ve seen her wear something almost identical before. I wish she would just surprise us for once. That goes for her hair too!!!
Personally, I like Swifty. Sometimes she can be a bit ” prissy” for my taste, but I like her all the same. I like Sheeran too. Every since he put Rupert Grint in his Lego House video, have been a true blue fan. Love that one of his favorite songs was Genuine’s Pony song. Haha, that song brings back memories. Love it.
I love that dress. Does anyone know who the designer is? I’m sure it’s out of my price range, but ya never know. Taylor always seems to dress beautifully (and tastefully). She may be more “mature” than her actual age, but I like that better than if she acted like some sort of try-hard tramp (like Miley). Nothing against Miley, but there’s a difference between “sexy” and “trampy”.

I can’t believe how sloppy that needlepoint was! If she just planned it and laid it out first, it would not be so uneven. Or am I just uptight and is it supposed to be rustic and charming? It’s one of my per peeves – when people equate hand-made with imperfections. Back in the 80’s, when I was a pre-teen, I saved up my allowance to buy my Dad an Armani tie. It was $75 or so, not the hundreds of $ it is today. I drove the salesperson crazy because I kept rejecting all the ties she brought out because the triangle tip was not perfectly symmetrical. She kept telling me that they were hand-made. I think I went through about 100 ties before finally finding one to my satisfaction.
If any other singer/actress went on as many pap strolls as she does, with nothing to promote, people here would be screaming “FAMEWHORE!!!” left and right. Just because she isn’t as scantily clad as some of her peers doesn’t mean she isn’t a famewhore in her own right.
I mean if Brad and Angelina can go weeks at a time without being papped why can’t she?
It annoys me that there was any need for Taylor’s behavior. One of the things I like about her is that she does her own thing and she surrounds herself with people that support that. They don’t even have to be into the same things as her. The fact that she isn’t clubbing is not what should be respected IMO. Clubbing is not actually abhorrent behavior. It’s that she wears what she likes and does what she likes without constantly preaching about people judging her for just trying to be ‘real’ or not wanting her to grow up.
