With this job, I read a lot of celebrity interviews. I’m here to tell you, most celebrities are pretty uninteresting. But there are a few gems out there, a handful of celebrities who know how to give a notable (notable bad or notable good) interview. Channing Tatum is one. Mila Kunis is another. Emma Thompson, Angelina Jolie, Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson – all notable interview subjects. I would add Robert Pattinson in that shortlist as well – nearly every print interview I’ve ever read with Sparkles is utterly charming. I ended up spending nearly 30 minutes reading every word of his September Esquire UK cover profile – you can read the full piece here. Some highlights (there are so many, he’s so quotable).
Sparkles on manliness: “My ideal of manliness is to be incapable of doing anything… just anything. Be proud of your ignorance. ‘Don’t ask me, I’m a man! Get someone else to do it!’ It’s funny, the less and less you do, the more the mountain of doing something grows. These days, just making a phone call is exhausting.”
The paparazzi: “I don’t understand why [they follow me]. I think it goes through periods where you’re assigned ‘this is the guy to follow’. But whenever I see a bunch of paparazzi hanging out, I always think, ‘Oh God, what have they found out!’ Oh, THAT love child! I totally forgot!”
Why he’s not going back into the franchise business: “A couple of offers, but with those things, if you express any interest, you have to do a screen test or whatever, and they make you sign a six-picture deal before you even know what the part is. It’s crazy. And I didn’t grow up reading comic books and stuff, so…”
Why he takes weird roles these days: “From my cod-psychoanalysis of myself, I think I do it for myself. I like to see if I’m capable of something, and I don’t really care what people think, even though I read all the reviews. If it really mattered, it would have destroyed me years ago.”
He’s not the ‘get’ you think he is: “I tell every production company I work for, I’m probably going to f–k up your entire marketing campaign.”
“Going Hollywood”: “Well, yes, but it’s not like you get away with it. This actress was doing a scene in the bath and she kept complaining about the temperature, how it was too hot or too cold. So everyone pissed in it and put a bunch of bubble bath in afterwards so you couldn’t smell it! This stuff happens. That’s why I avoid asking for anything. I don’t want to get anyone’s piss on me.”
Why he lives in LA permanently: He thought about Toronto but “the winters are ridiculous”. New York was a possibility, but “everyone honks their horns all the time, which drives me absolutely insane!” And London just didn’t feel right anymore, not after seven years in LA. “My friends are all having kids and stuff, it’s a totally different life. And I like people who want to actually make things and do stuff. In England, it’s so difficult that most people just give up.” So LA won out. “Just waking up when it’s sunny every day means so much to me. I like the levity here.”
His current neighbor is Suge Knight: “He’s really nice! I see him playing catch with his kid and stuff. And he lives in this nice little cottage, it’s really tasteful!”
Kristen Stewart’s affair with Rupert Sanders: “S–t happens, you know? It’s just young people… it’s normal! And honestly, who gives a s–t? The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can’t predict.”
I honestly could have pulled another page of just excellent one-liners and interesting observations from the interview. I really enjoyed it! You can tell that he has a love-hate relationship with Hollywood and the people, like he genuinely likes getting scripts and meeting interesting artists, but he doesn’t have a lot of time for the a—holes in the industry. I think it’s interesting that he’s still living in LA and that he really has no desire to go back to England. Most English actors aren’t like that at all! As for the K-Stew stuff… diplomatic, but he gave Esquire a good quote and he probably knows that everybody will use it as the headline.

‘Sh*t happens! Contracts end!’
Hahaha!! True. I do like sparkles but he needs to stop the head scratch pose.
It’s probably a nervous tick.
LOL.
Lol exactly
Check Gossip Cop’s latest article about this today.
Sure. If the truth is a carefully crafted brand message from a PR rep or team, I’ll buy it. Gossip Cop is nothing more than a PR mouthpiece. I’m sure the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I take everything Gossip Cop says with a grain of salt.
Okay, Esquire: “Interview with the former Vampire” – I see what you tried to do there, but it doesn’t work at all. Also, “What to wear to a gay wedding”???
Hahaha I saw that too! As a gay guy, can I just say that you just need to wear clothes like you would at any other wedding? I’d be interested to read that article.
I live for the day when people drop the “gay” and it’s just marriage, wedding, etc.
Equal rights for everyone.
He’s so f*cking cute, it kills me.
The part about the pee in the bath tub was hilarous! Who was that?
There was a story like this about Sharon Stone filming Sliver… I bet it’s about her.
I was going to ask that too 🙂
Could they not have added warm water? A scene filmed while in a tub full of pee, Kim’s dream scenario.
I know…and I feel like a dirty old woman sometimes, the way I think about him…
…I mean, I’m not old enough to be his mother, but still…
He is isn’t he? Love him. I find him to be refreshing, charming and just plain nice.
I like him. I really do. I wish he would find success away from that Twilight nonsense because he seems like a genuinely decent guy with a good head on his shoulders and a good heart.
Ditto. He seems very nice.
Completely agree.
I think he will. He seems to thrive more in the character actor stream and his last two supporting parts in Map of the Stars, and Rover were well reviewed.
I think he should focus on continuing to make indie films.
I think he seems like a genuinely nice guy and I hope he spends less time in Hollywood. That place is toxic. Wish he would be based in London or NYC.
Totally agree, he seems very nice.
ITA! I never cared for him until recently, but it’s difficult to not like him. Good fellow, and he grows on you.
I love him too! Anytime I see him on TV doing interviews I end up laughing my ass off, charming is the perfect word to describe him.
agree. I also like his manner, it’s rather understated in this wonderful british way.
I think the first thing I saw that showed what a great sense of humor he has, and that he doesn’t take himself too seriously, is when he “guest-starred” on Jimmy Fallon’s “Bothered”.
(if you’re not familiar, Fallon would do an imitation of Pattinson where he was looking very Edward-ish complaining about how he was “bothered” about things. Pattinson did the bit with him once and it was awesome.)
Fallon is genius in those “Bothered” videos.
Horn honking aside, I think I’d take living in NY over LA anyday.
They passed a law in NY a year or two ago that imposes a fine for unnecessary honking, and it really helped. It used to drive me insane and give me a headache to go there, as much as I love it, but it’s better now.
They need to implement that law in Chicago too then. I went there 2 years ago for my birthday, and theres always someone honking their horn.
Me too– I can’t deal with LA.
Any city where I *have* to drive is not for me. Plus I can barely tolerate the traffic in Boston, never mind the freeways in and around LA.
You get used to the noise in NYC very quickly, and really it’s only bad at night in midtown. Areas of the UES are like ghostly quiet at night. I’m surprised he’s not willing to give it more of a go; being a young, hip dude he could lead a much more low key life there. He sounds essentially lazy though (not a slam I am a lazybones too by nature), and L.A. is probably just easier work wise.
Conspiracy theory: it seems convenient that he brought this up a couple of years later & after that Guy Pearce film flopped here in the states not that long ago… I don’t know, it kind if reeks of “hey Twi-Hards, remember I supposedly got my heart broken so support me by buying tickets when my film is on ITunes or in your country.” It just seems vaguely like a male Jennifer Aniston move
That said I still think he and KStew were a PR couple. Like, I buy that they were friends but the romance…nada. Anyway, all that & Twilight is old and played out..,Here’s to hoping the poor guy can move past being known as Sparkles. He was good on the Guy Pearce film, so he’s on the right track
But he didn’t bring it up. The journalist asked him about it.
I don’t know why people think that in interviews a person just sits around and discusses whatever they want to discuss. An interviewer is the one that presents the topics.
To this day I have a hard time why people can’t believe that they were a real couple. Two hot young people thrown into working with each other over a period of years…and they get together and have a relationship? How strange and bizarre! Not. It happens every day and I’m betting everyone on this board has had a relationship with someone they worked with or met through work.
@Ex. Totally agree with you on the two of them being together. Why is it so hard to believe they were in a relationship with each other?
Agreed. If they were a PR couple they did a ridiculously crappy job at promoting themselves as a couple. The way I see it, a PR couple typically looks more like the Henry Cavill/Kaley Cuaco situation a while back. Obviously orchestrated pap walks shoving ‘look we’re a couple’ in the public’s face.
With these two, kept everything so under wraps that it wasn’t even confirmed in print that they were a couple until she cheated. Sorry, but I just don’t buy it.
you should read the whole interview then because there’s a specific part where he says he doesn’t buy that twilight fans follow his films in the sense that they actually watch it in theaters. he said, “They won’t go.”
he gave this interview before tha movie was released tho.
@Ex He has been doing this for years, the man must know how to say, Don’t ask about my past relationships. I saw his people stop a Ryan Seacrest interview, because Kristen was brought up. He said this for a reason. The Rover totally bombed, in its wide screen release. I have no clue whose big idea it was to not let the audiences build, before wide release. The fact is The Rover has been a big blow to the idea he can open movies. Even though he gave a great performance and the studio blow the films release, it has hurt his career image. I can’t help but think this was all “Hey remember me? My girlfriend cheated on me. Please come see my movie!” Odd that Kristen has yet to mention Rob. Even if this interview was before the movies release. The man keeps dating her friends and slyly mentioning the past.
Maybe he’s just gotten to the point where he can talk about it. He seemed to take it very badly. I also think he may have mentioned it to take some of the heat off Kristen who is somewhat universally reviled. I can’t stand her but from now on I’m going to keep it to myself.
@tracy says
You forgot to change your name back to Zee.
And good work. You’re learning subtlety in your anti Pattinson, pro Stewart comments. Just enough praise laid on to avert suspicion.
I love everything about him. He’s gorgeous, charming and quirky, still hasn’t said a bad word about Stewart and has no illusions about the industry, or his place in it. I hope he goes on to do great things.
+1.
I used to have zero tolerance for this guy, but over the last year I’m warming up. He’s never going to be attractive to me (Tom Hiddleston is the only sensitive Englishman I have time for), but I’ve enjoyed his recent movies–The Rover was so good! And he seems more relaxed now that he’s not quite so in the middle of everything.
Yay, it makes me happy that he may be changing some opinions. Obviously I’m a fan 😉
He seems nice enough, with a functioning brain, so that’s good.
What photoshop horror happened with the whites of his eyes on that cover? It looks off.
The interview made me LOL on a day when I definitely needed some laughs. Re his comments re the great meltdown of 2012- in one respect- he’s right- why was the “world ” so invested in a crappy situation that didn’t concern them? However, Liberty Ross certainly gave a s##t, didn’t she? I hope this is the last revisiting of that situation, but I doubt it. And The Rover was good, and he was good in it.
He always comes off like such a movie star in interviews and exudes ‘it’ but on screen he’s a dud.
Weird.
I think the reason he can’t really break through after Twilight is that he’s not making something mainstream and watchable. Most likely he’s not offered some good high-profile stuff like, say, Gone girl or Interstellar, but he doesn’t want another silly YA franchise either. He was gorgeous in Cosmopolis, exuding the ‘it”- factor you’re talking about, but the movie itself was hard to sit through.
I don’t agree that he doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor on screen, I think he exudes that on and off screen, but I do agree that he isn’t yet getting quality scripts. I think he’s waiting, trying to do good work in indie’s with good directors. Hopefully it pays off and he get’s better scripts in the near future.
I don’t know whether he’s getting good scripts or not. But I do think his tastes seem to veer to non-mainstream, not very accessible films. So it could be that these films are just what he wants to do and what he likes doing.
I like him as an actor (even as Edward, he acted the part as much as he could. It was a very limited character, rather than his acting skills that people dislike, IMO. Everyone seems to just kind of say ‘he sucks’ rather than note that he’s acting within the limits of a very one dimensional character.) But he really needs to choose some projects that aren’t strange little arty films that make the rest of us scratch our heads. I think his upcoming ‘Life’ seems more along this line. It’s a story that could potentially interest those of us without the film-auteur gene.
@Jamie I totally agree. He does seem to have very specific tastes and his indies haven’t been particularly accessible at all. I really hope he makes a mainstream film soon. It’s difficult to judge his staying power when he hasn’t made a film with mass appeal.
I like him–always have. Not a fan girl but I think he’s a decent actor. He did Twilight and is set so why not do what you want now? The films are small enough that there aren’t any huge bombs.
As for KS–I think it was real and he loved her. I always wondered about her feelings but I think she loved him as well just maybe not as much. But she was young and like he says s*** happens.
But the main thing–WHO was the actress in the tub? Now I want to go through his filmography. My mind immediately went to Reese–was she in a tub for Like Water for Elephants? I mean, it has to be a film he was in and not just industry gossip he heard right?
“What to wear to a gay wedding” title cracked me up. Are we supposed to dress differently? If so I disappointed my gay friend deeply.
I don’t know or care if Robsten were a real couple or not. But him reminding that they were both young is right on the money. Sh-t happens when you are young. People need to get over it.
Taking it better than Orlando Bloom has. Speaking of great interviews, Kaiser, do you have any all time favorites?
to be fair the director guy isnt as disgusting as Bieber and hasnt rubbed it in his face and Kristen isnt the mother of Robs child. so you cant compare the situations.
I was being facetious.
This winter in Toronto was the worst. Not surprised it scared him off. I recall he shot a movie here in March.
The last 2 winters weren’t bad though.
“S–t happens, you know? It’s just young people… it’s normal!
That’s a bit insensitive to Liberty Ross and her two children. I get that he is still friends with Kstew and wants to show his support of her but having sex with a married man and breaking up a family is not some silly harmless thing all young people do nor is it normal behavior.
He is nice and very likeable but I wish other talented actors still struggling would be given half the chance he continues to get. But Hollywood is all about attractive White Male privilege so he will be given a million chances to screw up.
I think he’s speaking for himself here, why would he comment on Liberty and her kids? He says, young people break up and it’s not a big deal. And he’s right.
I didn’t read it that way. I think he meant the break up not the cheating scandal. Kstew was 18-19 when they got together. Not many people are lucky enough to meet their “soulmate” at such young age.
I agree. I think he meant that it’s normal for people their ages to not last as a couple in the long run. And I’ll add, especially in Hollywood. They were so young when they met and eventually fell in love with eachother. Kristen was only 17 and he was 21. He admitted he had a big crush on her even before the Twilight audition. It’s no surprise they eventually fell for eachother. And it’s also no surprise they didn’t last. Few couples do at that age. Rob seems to have a very healthy attitude about the break up now and I think he’s genuinely surprised (and probably annoyed too) that people are STILL talking about it when it’s quite obvious everyone involved has moved on.
Yes, here I completely agree with you.
T.C
And I wish that people would stop blaming the marriage-breaking thing on the ‘other’.
Sanders ‘broke’ his family apart because he was the one married sleeping around….
K. Stewart might be the one responsible for her relationship, not Sanders’ one.
+1
Just saying…. Kristen took the Sanders kids out for ice cream and acted like a friend to Liberty. Rupert was responsible for his vows, Kristen for her relationship, but there is something to be said for being a real friend- I wouldn’t allow someone around my kids unless I trusted them- and for being a decent person.
+1 @Jenny12
One thing is having an affair with a married man, another is taking his kids out for ice cream and being friends with his wife. That’s a cold and calculated move on Kristen’s part.
@Lady Macbeth
Agree that it was Sanders who broke up his own marriage but it’s still insensitive to pretend like the whole thing was no big deal and young people just being young. I knew at 10 years old that you don’t sleep with a married man.
If this was Kstew giving such a flippant answer about that affair there would be a 100 comments by now asking to burn her alive but since it’s Sparkles and he has a large fanbase of women who cuddle him and explain away any of his questionable comments it’s all good. Let’s just be honest about the hypocrisy. Sparkles is usually a nice guy but he does get douchey when it comes to defending Kstew. He was a blind spot when it comes to her that explains why they were together for three years.
But she didn’t take his kids out for ice cream. The account I read was that she and Rupert were doing a press junket for Snow White at a hotel in LA. Rupert brought one of his kids along that day. During a short break between her interviews, Kristen got the kid some ice cream probably via room service. I doubt she had time to leave the hotel with the kid to find a place that sells ice cream in the middle of a press junket she was involved in. It’s not like Kristen went over to the Sanders home, picked up the kids and drove them to an ice cream parlor with Liberty’s blessing.
@T.C.
So now he’s guilty for asking people to move on, basically defending Kristen AGAIN? Did you expect him to give a speech about the atrocity that is cheating? It’s so obvious he just wants the whole thing to die down without trashing his former co-star.
http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/82795/Report-Kristen-Stewart-Took-Rupert-Sanders-Kids-To-Get-Ice-Cream-Before-Affair-Was-Unveiled
I think he would just like to not be asked about the affair repeatedly, but that’s never going to happen. If someone you know goes through something traumatic, you don’t just keep bringing it up, but that is what journalists do. “Hey! How did you cope after your girlfriend was caught cheating on you?”
“She treated his eldest daughter to ice cream in Los Angeles when there was a break in her press interviews back in the latter end of May.”
It doesn’t matter if she took the kids for ice cream or not. She knew Liberty and they had visited and been friendly for a time. It was Sander’s marriage and he is the one who actually cheated on his wife. He is doubly responsible because he is older, more experienced, knows what it means to be married and have a family relying on you – not as a provider, but to be there and committed to the family unit. He was also her boss and so in a position of authority and power. That said, how is KStew not responsible for her part in it? She messed around with a married man. She knew exactly what she was doing. She is not a child. Many people say, “Well, if it hadn’t been her, it would’ve been someone else.” Maybe, but the fact is as in every affair and talking about the other woman, it was her. She was the one who had sex with this man knowing he was married and children were involved. They are both responsible. She is accountable for her part in it and it takes a certain kind of person to do that – young or old. It is a mentality – selfish, devious, and cruel.
Okay, this Jennifer is way more articulate than me. It *was* Sanders’ marriage and he was responsible for his horrendous decisions and he *was* in a position of authority during the filming. But Kristen bears responsibility as well. She was in her 20s and in a serious, domestic partnership. She was friendly with Sanders’ wife and interacted with his family. Her mentality was similar to Rupert’s: I want what I want, when I want it, at whatever cost to others.
@ Lady Macbeth (Hiddles F)
“K. Stewart might be the one responsible for her relationship, not Sanders’ one.”
We ALL have a responsibility to our fellow human beings. At 22 years old, Stewart was old enough to realize that her behavior could cause enormous hurt to Liberty and her children. It’s wrong to lie, it’s wrong to harm others. Stewart should not have followed Saunders around like a love struck puppy and Saunders should have kept his dick in his pants. Both were profoundly selfish and dishonest.
@Jenny
I don’t think she was ever friends with Liberty…The ice cream thing was at some press event for the film…it’s not like she took them on an outing. she did a shitty thing but I think the friend with Liberty angle was added on by the tabs try and make it even more salacious. Anyway, I agree with Lady MacBeth (hiddles)…
This is what the article says- don’t know how much is true- but it seems pretty clear that she was around the children. What Kristen and Rupert did just plain sucked all around. “The actress reportedly took their children – ages 5 and 7 – to get ice cream two months ago while promoting Snow White and the Huntsman in Los Angeles two months ago. A source tells the website: “During the press junkets for Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen was already close to Rupert’s kids… at that time no one suspected anything was up – there was no reason to – but looking back at it now it seems pretty suspicious.” “The affair could have started back then,” the source explained. “Why else would you take out a married man’s kid for ice cream?”
@Zee
Exactly! “Kristen treated Sander’s eldest daughter to ice cream during a break at one of the Snow White press junkets” turned into…”Kristen took both Sanders children out for ice cream back in May.”
Embellishment at its finest! pmsl
@Zee
It doesn’t matter that she wasn’t friends with Liberty. She knew Liberty and her kids because Liberty played her Mom in the film and the kids were also in the film as extras. So they at least knew each other in a professional working relationship. It’s one thing if you cheat with a married man never haven met his family but to have met them and do media rounds with them is pretty cold.
Anyway I guess from the other comments Sparkles might have just been talking about their immaturity in the relationship in that Kristen was only 17 when they first met and he pursued her while she still had a boyfriend, fast forward later she then cheats with another guy while they are still together. Apparently “normal” things that young people do these days. No big deal. Just the breakup of a family and the end of a promising movie franchise leading to the firing of all involved in the filming.
what is giving people the impression Hollywood is trying to make him happen? maybe years ago, around 2009-2010, but not now, most of his current and future films have international or simple european productions.
Why does that matter?
International box office has become just as important, if not more important, than domestic. If Rob only makes these tiny movies (European or not) that don’t make money – that will be an issue. Hopefully he throws a studio movie or two in there at some point. Good reviews on the indies will bring him better scripts, as some have mentioned already.
I think he’s talking about the end of his and Kristen’s relationship. They were young, sometimes young people break up, and sometimes there’s cheating involved. From his perspective, it may not matter who Kristen cheated on him with – he presumably doesn’t know Sanders or Ross all that well, so it’s not really his place to speak about their divorce.
I didn’t think his comment was even really about the cheating. It read to me like his reaction to the end of the relationship in general. Like, “Sh*t happens, we were young, it was never going to work out anyway.”
I think they were a “real” couple. But I just also think it was mostly a relationship of convenience and not this intense story of true love their fans wanted them to be. They always seemed to have their own lives, friends, family time. They never seemed as committed as a couple should be after 3-4 years together. And had they not had BD2 to promote, I doubt they’d have ever “reconciled” after the cheating. That reeked of damage control.
Anyway, I like him and am rooting for him.
This. I think it’s way of saying they weren’t that serious. I think he screwed around too but he was much smarter about doing it discreetly.
Team Edward! Haha, kidding.. He is just so likable, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, even though sometimes I question the kind of people he surrounds himself with.. but go on, sparkles, keep on shining!
I have always liked him, in every single interview. He is smart, charming, and funny. My personal belief is that the relationship with Kristen was real; there was too much chemistry and it was obvious. In the pap photos that were taken, they seemed genuinely caught up in each other. The photos with Rupert showed Kristen as an object of affection, but she herself seemed kind of detached. They were also not your typical pap photos- the ones that first showed Rob with Kristen were grainy and far away.
What chemistry?
They were so awkward and she acted as if he had a disease. I still think she prefers women. Look how she lusts after her female co-stars.
I thought there was an intense chemistry there. In pictures taken at the Kings of Leon concert, or in the street after a party, they seemed very connected. In video I’ve seen from that time, she acted like a 14 year old around him, whispering to costars and being super awkward. However, later on, who knows? Maybe she lost interest, or maybe she will end up coming out of the closet. Right now, I find her very unlikeable, and I’m not usually like that. Her interviews do not help her.
“because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can’t predict.”
so true. imagine what publicy cheating on a person does to them. oh wait, he knows. i see that as a big shade. could also be that he genuinely doesnt care anymore. he obviously wont speak openly about it. has made him look a lot better than the minicooper girl.
@Maria yet he keeps talking about it. If you are not going to talk about it don’t. Who knows what happen? My impression based on the picture I have seen of Rob and other women at the time, he cheated also. There were numerous pictures (that no one seems to remember) of Rob and his co-stars in intimate situations. Just my impression at the time. I believe both did things they should not have done.
Hahaha, your agenda’s pretty clear. He hasn’t mentioned it in every interview, this is the first time he has addressed it. It may have come up in others, but that’s just what happens in print interviews. There has never been ANY evidence he cheated. I don’t understand why her stans give him such a hard time. He could have thrown her under the bus at any time, yet he continues to be a gentleman about the whole thing.
what? there are no pics or rob and other women in intimate situations.
I could read or watch his interviews all day! As for his relationship with Kristen, I think it was real. I don’t think they were as serious as the media and the twihards believed. I think one of their costars even said they were off and on all the time. I love that his neighbor is sugar knight and that he said he was nice. Rob seems like the type of person that gets along with everyone. I also loved were he mentioned trying to open a bottle with his iPhone and now it only works on speaker . His whole interview is defiantly worth reading.
For him and Kristen, yes its just a young relationship ending. But I dont think what Kristen did was a “shit happens” thing. She slept with a married man who has children. Rupert f-cked up the worst, he was married. He made vows. Sleeping with a married man is deplorable though and even though she wasn’t married, Robert was in love with her. She is awful and so is Rupert. I love Rob!
Adding to the list of interesting interviews, I would nominate Daniel Radcliffe is an interesting read as well.
Yes!
I love this guy. He does not take himself seriously AT all. I love what he said about ruining marketing campaigns and how Suge Knight is “nice.” So funny!
He is a class act. He never once spoke an ill word about Kristen Stewart when she cheated on him. This guy is pretty cool.
Those 2 had about as much on screen chemistry as two sticks of wood. Fake from beginning to end but I suppose this is as close to admitting it was a fauxmance as we’ll ever hear from him. Whatever, no one cares anymore except the grannies that are the twi fan base .
Not fake, so much evidence they were real. Nothing about Rob since 2008 would suggest he would put his life and hold and take part in a 4 year deception. It’s such an insult.
@Deb
It was the intense chemistry between Rob and Kristen that made the Twilight franchise a massive hit. The books were popular, especially with the YA demographic it was intended for, but poorly written and the films were not much better. Rob and Kristen are the ones responsible for it becoming a box office phenomenon.
They could have put two statues in those films and Twihards would have watched it 100 x.
Both were awful.
I’m not at all a Twihard- have only seen excerpts from the 1st movie and never read the books- and I thought there was chemistry.
playing a sparkly vampire wasnt a weird role? lol
Sorry, I just don’t find this guy charming at all. He just comes off as douchey and childish to me. The giggling man-child act has grown old. JMO.
I am with you JJ. I think he is an a hole with an accent that can be masked as charming. He pursued someone that was in a long term relationship, he has made snide comments about the franchise that made him more noticeable as he was not getting hired at all until Twilight. These things were glared over by the fact that he was cheated on by a bigger a hole. I do not find him charming or interesting.
Snide? Not really – more like disbelief and amusement.
Most people (fans included) have a positive reaction to his humor about Twilight. It’s a ridiculous series, I can acknowledge that even as I enjoy watching them. I would be much less impressed if he tried to sell me on how great they were.
He handled the question very well. He didn’t threw her under the bus. Good answer. I don’t find him attractive and his acting is forgettable but I wish him the best of luck in his movie career.
I need to see him in more movies to evaluate his acting skills (no one looked good in Twilight) but I do have to say he is very charming in interviews. I like how he threw Twilight under the bus with the whole Franchise talk as if he was discussing superhero movies but basically he was saying “oh fuck I thought it’d be an indie movie and then I ended up having to do 4 years of that shit”.
Actually, other than his very mature and refreshing comments about Kristen, I don’t find him that charming or dreamy. But he’s interesting, I’ll give you that.
I didn’t like his comment about people “giving up”. I’m not sure if I read that wrong, but I got the impression he’s saying settling down, forming a family and living a “normal” life like that is giving up. I don’t like that. What if that is your actual goal in life? How is having kids and settling down incompatible with “doing stuff”? Maybe I’m reading too deep into this.
I can totally see where it seemed like he was comparing having kids to giving up, but I think it was just a badly worded comment. I got the impression that he just felt out of touch with friends who were settling down and having kids, AND that he thinks making art/films is too difficult in England – at least compared to LA/the US. But maybe I’m the one who misread it.
Yes, I thought he was speaking of giving up professionally/creatively.
When addressing the cheating drama I just wished he had used “not uncommon” instead of “it’s Normal!” not all young people cheat or get cheated with married people, but it isn’t a rarity either….but then again, maybe in Hollywood it is normal and nobody gives a shit lol
I think some people are misinterpreting that part of the quote. He actually says that in answer to a question about his relationship breaking up, not about her cheating. He’s saying it’s normal for young people in relationships to break up and he can’t work out why other people care so much.
I don’t thinks is a misinterpretation or maybe was the way it was edited by the author:
Like all things Twilight, the whole K-Stew / R-Patz saga was horribly overcooked. It’s not unusual for co-stars to date – they were both living and working in a strange bubble for many years, both of them under intense and obsessive scrutiny. And then it ended in betrayal.
“Shit happens, you know?” he laughs. “It’s just young people… it’s normal! And honestly, who gives a shit?”
I did felt he was talking about ending a young relationship because of a betrayal/cheating, not just because it ended.
creepy hands!
He’s double jointed and plays the piano. I think his hands are sexy actually 😉
I like him. I really like him. He’s wry and funny and comes off as honest. It’s a luxury to be able to work on what you want at his young age, and maybe that’s why he seems so content now. Good for him.
He does come across very well in interviews. His comments about Kristen are refreshing, but frankly some of the least interesting parts of this interview. It’s cool that he can use is Twilight fame as a springboard for projects that he’s more invested in. Good for him.
He seems like such a sweetie pie.
Wow, I had no idea he is such a charming man.
That’s the thing about interviews – they can make or break you.
His dismissal of cheating is weird, imo. If my significant other cheated on me with another- I don’t think I could ever dismiss it with a laugh and put it in the “sh** happens” bucket. I think it would have been better to not discuss it at all.
I think referring to the situation as “sh** happens” is odd and seems to make it sound like cheating is just a random act- which it’s not..it’s a choice.
Sh** happens is traffic jams and flight delays–things out of one’s control. An affair between a single woman and a married man with children is a selfish douchey choice by two adults. They had a choice and they both decide to screw over those closest to them by being a**holes. I also don’t think it’s “normal for young people”. I was young once but I chose NOT to be a selfish douche.
I am sure he is a nice kid….just an odd choice of words, imo.
You should probably read the interview in context. He’s talking about his relationship breakdown not her cheating specifically.
I did read the entire interview on Esquire’s site. I did not get that impression, and from the other comments above, it doesn’t look like I am alone in that assessment.
The article states “and then it ended in betrayal” followed by the quote about “sh** happens”. However one chooses to read it- it’s a very dismissive comment to refer to the end of relationship (if one is invested in it?) or cheating.
But what’s the alternative? To call out KS? Detail how horrible it felt? He’d be labelled a whiny douche who can’t let go. Okay, maybe he should refuse to answer the question? …And be accused of playing coy and refusing to answer simple questions when he knows it’s his job.
I just don’t see how he can win.
He seemed to handle it fine, to me. He’s not making a comment on whether what she did was right or wrong. He’s commenting on how it affected his life. It probably was shitty for him. And cheating is fairly pervasive whether you’re young or not. It does happen. His statement sums it up from his angle.
No…I thought not addressing it would be best, imo. I think coy is better than dismissive. No public figure can win. I think just a laugh and dismssal was odd–this isn’t his first time to the goat rodeo. As I said, i think he’s good kid..I just thought it was an odd way to handle the situation. If you can’t win..why even address it.
Here’s the issue – we actually dont know what the question was. We all are assuming he asks about cheating but interviewer never says, just aludes to entire breakup cheating scandal in broad terms… Robs response is Young people make mistakes, shit happens. Move on. And he’s tired of people still lingering on it. Let it go. He wasnt dismissive of anyone. More or less stating his position and quite honestly its about time. Ignoring the question continually wasn’t getting anywhere – at least he’s let his point be heard on it. Better still, he did it in a way that helped not be spiteful or mean towards Kristen. I think he’s actually talking about all the observers. Get over it. Smart man.
Not weird at all if — as I strongly suspect — the whole thing was a fauxmance from the get-go.
I’ve been cheated on by a significant other (now ex). Initially it’s heartbreaking, and many other emotions, but now a few years removed from the situation if definitely put it in the “sh** happens” bucket.
That’s just my experience. I’m sure others may have a different experience, and I hope you never find out how you’d react (no one deserves to be cheated on). I think it’s entirely possible this is how he feels about the situation from his perspective. (As someone stated above it really wouldn’t be appropriate for him to address anyone else’s perspective)
CDAN says RP has had a new gf for the last couple of months….if it’s true, is it terrible that I’m dying to know who it is?
some 2nd tier model.
I think Sanjiv Bhattacharya is a very good interviewer, and he likes Pattinson. I think I remember reading their first interview in Guardian and it changed my opinion of RPattz. I remember moderately disliking him judging just by covers of tabloids and screaming girls – obviously they were supposed to scream about some kind of jerk. And Sanjiv’s story and comments to that article presented completely different person…
Personally glad its out there. Cleared the air. Pretending that not talking about it makes it go away. He Manned up and kinda dropped mic and said let it go. Helps absolve her and says he’s over it so should you all. Meaning Media. Good position.
Oh Rob, how I love you…
Wow. I really like him. He would be someone that would be so amazing to hang out with, talk with, while drinking a few glasses of wine. I have to admit since seeing ‘Little Ashes’, I have been internally and subconsciously rooting for him.
Sorry but ‘Twilight’ would not have brought on my faith in him. Again, sorry 😳. ‘Twillight’ did not provide much of an outlet to show anyone’s real talent. That so rhymed. Anyway, I get a great feeling about him. He definitely brings on positive energy. And I get the L.A. thing. I would move to that area for the weather alone. Venice Beach is one of my favorite places in the entire world too.
