These are photos of Sara Gilbert and wife Linda Perry at the beach last week. They were enjoying a coupley moment and watching kids frolic in the surf. Writing about them means I’ll have 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up” in my head all day. That’s worth it for this story.
Sara announced her pregnancy yesterday on The Talk. She similarly announced her engagement on air. This was more dramatic. I don’t know when The Talk turned into Fear Factor, but there’s some “dare” theme going on this week. Sara was supposed to lay down on a bed of nails and have a cinder block smashed on her stomach. Sara decided not to do the dare. She said: “I believe in facing your fears, but I actually can’t do the dare because I’m pregnant.” Then Sara’s fellow co-hosts and the audience completely lost it. They went wild with excitement. Sharon Osbourne’s Botox face even moved a little bit. Here’s the video clip.
I haven’t seen that much screaming on a talk show since Oprah Winfrey’s “Favorite Things” episodes. What an announcement, and everyone is so happy for Sara and Linda. It’s nice to see some good celebrity news in this cycle.
Linda also has a new interview in this month’s issue of Curve magazine. I was going to excerpt, but all the bleeps would have made the text unreadable. Linda basically goes off on the pop stars of today who “run around half-naked singing a bunch of crap.” She’d like the music industry to “start getting back to when women were strong and actually saying something.” You can read the interview here.

Congrats!
I watched the clip on CBS This Morning and I’ll be damned if I didn’t tear up. They were all so happy for her!
Me too! I have always loved Sara Gilbert! Yay.
Goddamn It Me Too!! That was so so cute they were all genuinely bowled over..sh-t it was sweet as hell to me how they hugged her and comforted her when they just thought she was crying cause she was scared!
So adorable! Yeeeeaahhhhh Darlene!
LOL at the one host whose response to the “I’m pregnant” news was to grab Sara around the stomach and start swinging her around.
That’s a very touching TV moment, and I’m pleased for them. But a bit of an OTT reaction, wasn’t it? Is there a backstory to this that I’m missing? Baby news is great, but sheesh…..I mean, yaay biology!
It was lovely, but honestly, even my own mother wasn’t that excited for me. Maybe we’re not as close as I thought.
No way over the top. Yeah, it’s biology, but finding out a dear friend is expecting is so exciting, even more so after I had my first, because I got so excited for them because of how amazing it was for me. And every person, however small a fetus they are, deserves a celebration. I think a few high fives would be inappropriate and rude. It made me teary, but I’m 8 weeks along, so… Crying is expected :).
Congrats, Wiffie! <3
I miss 90210. Luke Perry was IT in the nineties and still looks good today – Go Sara!
Cough. *Linda* Perry.
(Laughing tho)
I am laughing so hard! 🙂
Snort.
LOL
Oh my god. This is the best thing I have read all week.
I cannot imagine a more bizarre coupling than Luke Perry and Sara Gilbert, and you’re so nonchalant about it. I love it.
what the….?
oh, I had heard they were on the rocks…hope that A) I’m wrong and mis-remembering and B) that it’s not a band-aid baby if I’m remembering correctly.
Darlene 4eva!
I seem to remember media coverage of their relationship problems recently as well. Hope it was just speculation or lies, cuz Sara looks so happy!
Congrats to them. Gosh they have gotten to look so much alike in hair, makup, styling, even the way they smile.
Congrats to Sara and Linda!
Can I just say, I know that Linda has had a long and successful career in songwriting and production, but to me she’ll always be the face of 4 Non Blondes? “What’s Up?” was the perfect song to sing loudly to express my over dramatic teenage angst when it hit the radio. I still listen to it and smile.
…Aaand now I feel old. (*goes to find a pair of Doc Martens and a flannel shirt*)
(Edited to add the Docs and flannel comment, because, nineties.)
Never apologize for the flannels and Docs, Penguen. Never.
Aaah flannels and docks!
Shhhhhh! Let’s just enjoy this Gen X moment of beauty and not question it, m’kay?
Oh, perfection! What’s Up is my most favoritest song ever. I wish I still had my docs and baby doll dresses. Those were the days.
I still have my docs and little dresses. I’m saving them for paranormaldaughter. She’s coming around…
She’s going to be the coolest girl around, for sure. 😉
Aww, congratulations! I don’t know much about Linda Perry besides that one song but she’s always reminded me of a female Steven Tyler. Anyone else…?
Happy news & congrats to both of them!
That said, Linda Perry’s a pretty woman but she always looks like she needs a bath, and the ridiculous hats look even more so now that she’s older.
Yep, Perry’s got that Johnny Depp dirty rock-star look.
congrats to them!
i LOOOOVE “what’s up?”
Best pregnancy quote ever was about Darlene Connor: “The bride is pregnant and she had to go throw up. Ain’t none y’all been to a wedding before?” – Dan Connor
Awww. I’m kind of impressed.
Doesn’t Sara have a few kids with her ex?
That’s what I thought too..
She does. It’s her first child WITH Linda Perry. The wording is confusing.
Happy for Sara and Linda. Linda is right about female pop stars.
She is, but the irony is that she used to write a lot of music for said pop stars.
Exactly what I was thinking, although I think her most famous songs written for pop stars were P!nk and I can’t shade that at all. I think she also wrote for Christina.
Aww yay for them! Congrats!
Julie Chen trying to cry is giving me life today. Truly it is beautiful.
Happy for them. I can’t help but really like Sara Gilbert. She has such a non judgemental demure about her. She comes across as a sincere person.
Dear God, I cried watching this clip! -_-
Love this!!!!
Congrats to them.
