Back in July, 57-year-old Steven Bauer stepped out for the first time with his newest girlfriend, Lyda Loudon. Lyda is 18 years old. She’s a Tea Party activist and she’s involved with some conservative media or something. She’s also the daughter of a Missouri state senator. God, I can’t imagine that her parents are happy about her new boyfriend, can you? And Steven has a son, Alexander, who is literally ten years older than his dad’s girlfriend.
Steven and Lyda have probably been together for the summer, I’m guessing? This is a summer romance that is making it a little bit longer than expected. I guess she’s moved to California to be with him too? These photos are from Studio City, and they were going for a low-key lunch.
So, what do you think? Are Steven and Lyda our new Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson? Believe it or not, I still think Courtney and Doug are creepier. As far as we know, Lyda was technically legal when Bauer began dating her. Sigh…maybe it wouldn’t bother me so much if Lyda didn’t look so young, you know? She could easily pass for 14.

I am a product of May December romance that lasted till my father passed away. Precisely, my father was in his late 4O ‘s and my mom in her early 20’s. They went troughs so much discrimination but that didn’t stop them from loving each other. This was back then, it is so sad to see that age discrimination still exist and it will stay I guess forever. When people choose to be together for whatever reason let them be.
This is a 40 year age difference between an old man and a chick who must’ve recently graduated high school. We are also more aware of the factors that can motivate these kinds of relationships than we were say 25 years ago. This is a bit different than a 24 year old making the same decision.

In the end, at 18 all teenagers are legally of age, so they can date anyone they want. You can pull your hair, saying that is gross, but honestly it doesn’t come across well or worse you seem prejudiced about couples with big age gaps and given that I am part of one, sorry it doesn’t sit well with me (although I started dating my husband when he was 26, I was a teenager when he was born…)

Just a guess, but I think some might be more accepting of the Sam/Aaron relationship because they’ve lasted several years, got married, had kids, etc, and there hasn’t been any tabloid drama with them, as far as I know.

I am going out on a limb here and going to guess that when someone is that old and they are looking for a new generation to “hook up” with it has to be because everyone closer to their age knows what they are all about so they go for the young and niave (I am not saying all 18 year olds are young and niave so don’t jump up and down on my keyboard) that’s just my guess.
On that note. I remember when I was 18 and still living at home my friends and I were at a party and a guy there who was probably in his mid to late 40’s (which I thought was weird to being with) he apparently asked one of my friends for my number (no cell phones-home number) I didn’t know anything about it or I would have killed her. Anywho this guy called about 1am (dad has always had a strict no phone calls after 10pm) I was up because of Friday night videos (don’t you bitches judge me I am getting old) but Dad answered the phone and I could hear him asking who is this and they guy gave his name and dad asked what do you want with my daughter, the guy answered I wanted to ask her out. Dad asked how f#$^ing old are you, you sound like you are grown man. Dad proceeded to him listen you pedophile my daughter is 18 years old you better lose this number or I will have the police at your doorstep if you ever call again and dad slammed the phone. I sat there with fear in my eyes asking who that was and dad asked if I knew that guy apparently the guy gave his full name. I told him I met some weirdo named Steve at a party a few nights ago but I never gave our number out. My father worked closely with the police department for many years and he was friends with everyone on the force. Guess what Dad did the next day? Yep he was up at the police department getting all this guys information. Guess who the first one through the door where this poor b-st-rd worked yep good ole Dad with escorts to make sure his point got through. He apparently said to him just so we are clear you understood what I told you about my daughter last night on the phone. Dad said the guy stood there looking at him like what the hell is going on? who is this crazy b-st-rd? After the Steve said he understood very clearly, Dad told him that’s good because if I come back I won’t be coming back with these f*ckers I will becoming back to end you. That’s how Dads do it where I am from. I miss him everyday. Oh and I never spoke to “my friend” who gave the old creepy dude my number ever again.

My hubby is almost 20 years older than me and we met when I was still in high school. We didn’t get married until I graduated from university, but now we have two kids together and couldn’t be happier. We have a great marriage and friendship and are highly compatible. Neither of us even think about our age difference, and it was never really an issue but we were subtle when I was still in high school since we live in a small town where people talk. We met in a dance class when we were randomly partnered. Sometimes a person’s soulmate just happens to be older than them. No biggie, in my opinion, as long as everyone’s intentions are reasonable.

This is true. It’s a bit creepy since he looks so much older than her. My husband and I pretty much look the same age since he is Chinese and I am a fair skinned north European and have more wrinkles than I probably should at 23 … Or it may be the sleep deprivation from having two kids under two.
I think that as soon as the age difference is such that the relationship becomes ambiguous to an outside observer, it may be slightly inappropriate. He truly looks like her grandfather.
